going to show you them. one of the shows that starts one way and ends differently. our crew getting in the act as well. we'll have a lot of fun. 8:00 hour today. >> everybody's halloween but we're thinking christmas. >> we moved ahead. merry christmas, honey. >> let's start on a friday morning with our top story. that dramatic end to the nearly two month old search for eric frein suspected of ambushing two troopers, kill one of them. kristen dahlgren has the latest. >> reporter: good morning, matt. look eric frein was arraigned in a pennsylvania courtroom. he was brought surrounded by troopers right out the front door of that court house in front of crowds of media and onlookers, many of the onlookers shouting at frein who remained silent. he faces the death penalty on charges including first-degree murder. >> we weren't going to stop until this fugitive was arrested. >> reporter: suspected cop

killer eric frein is in plus custody. seen here with blood on his nose. but without the dirt and facial hair that many expected to see. given nearly seven weeks on the run in the pennsylvania woods. late thursday pennsylvania governor tom corbett praised the efforts of police in ending the manhunt. >> i can't tell you how much on behalf of a grateful state we want to thank all of the partners who have been involved in this mission to capture this individual. >> reporter: frein was seen with blood on his face, but authorities say he surrendered without a struggle. outside the air field hangar, inside police say they found belongings including a rifle and handgun. he was taken into custody wearing the handcuffs of the trooper he is accused of murdering. >> he was placed under arrest, handcuffed with the handcuffs of corporal dickson which i think is very appropriate. >> reporter: frein was taken to the police barracks, the same building where that ambush took

place during a shift change on september 12. launching the exhaustive 48-day manhunt for the gun enthusiast. during the weeks of searching police found the 31-year-old's abandoned suv and assault rifle, pipe bombs, soiled diapers and detailed writings describing the murder of corporal bryon dickson. all frustrating near misses until police finally got their man. >> let me assure you from everybody here, justice will be served. >> reporter: you can imagine the relief here, not just for authorities but also for people that live around here. they had actually canceled halloween, worried it would be too dangerous. trick-or-treating is back on. back to you. >> all right, kristen dahlgren on this story. thank you very much. >> and we are learning more about a tragic plane crash at wichita's mid continent airport. at least four people died when a small twin engine plane slammed

into a flight training building. ron mott is there with that story. good morning. >> reporter: hoda, good morning. three of the four killed yesterday were in that building you see behind me 18 flight simulator, the fourth person was the pilot and now investigators are here on the scene to start figuring out exactly what went wrong. the twin engine slammed into the building shortly after takeoff sparking a fire that sent clouds of smoke high in the air. inside, pilots, practicing maneuvers in flight simulators. the pilot of the king air 200 identified as 53-year-old mark goldstein, tried turning back to the runway when an engine failed. >> he didn't have enough altitude. probably less than 30 seconds. >> reporter: witnesses say goldstein struggled to climb leaving him the only one struggling to maintain control. air traffic transmissions captured his dilemma, he called the tower soon after getting airborne. >> declared emergency.

>> reporter: a few seconds of silence, then this. >> what's on fire? >> we just lost an aircraft. >> reporter: johnson saw something but was uncertain what. >> it was windy and i heard a big loud noise, but i didn't know what it was and then i could see smoke coming up. from around the side of the building. >> reporter: hours after the crash, smoke still billowed from the building which officials say will be inspected before the wreckage and bodies can be safely removed. >> until such time we render the building safe we will take all of the precautions necessary to assure no officers are hurt. >> reporter: officials say they will make every effort to retrieve the bodies today. because the building is unstable that could take a while. no word on the three people killed inside. back to you. >> ron, thanks so much. >> this ongoing standoff in maine between officials and the nurse fighting the state's voluntary quarantine for people treated ebola patients.

will she be forced to comply? stephanie gosk has the latest on this. good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, good morning, matt. we're learning that a district court hearing in maine ordered a court order that compels kaci hickox to follow the cdc guidelines for someone considered to be at some risk. this does not mean she can't leave her house. that bike ride she took yesterday is well within the guidelines. >> this is something my partner and i like to do. >> reporter: maine's governor said he had no problem with kaci hickox's venturing out for a brief bike ride. surrounded by reporters and a state trooper that the governor says is for her safety. >> her behavior is really riling a lot of people up, and you know, i can only do what i can do. we're trying to protect her but she's not acting as smart as she probably should.

>> reporter: so far maine seems to have backed down from plans to seek a court order to keep hickox and others who had contact with ebola patients in the past 21 days out of public places. >> i'm not symptomatic. there is no way i could give someone ebola. >> reporter: so far she has complied with the state's request, opting for a pizza delivery after this national name drop. >> i'd love to go to the moose shack and get a slice of pizza. >> reporter: it wasn't a boon for business. >> we received phone calls of is she here? people wanting to come have lunch but are not coming because she -- possibility she may be here. >> reporter: 3,000 signed an online petition to revoke her nursing license, if she doesn't stay inside. what a brat one tweeted. serious case of me-bolla. kaci hickox wears a helmet.

couldn't care less about protecting americans. still, if the state is going to block her next bike ride legal expert sas the burden is on maine to justify a strict quarantine. >> you can do it if you can demonstrate that they are going to harm the public. but the state has to show that. they haven't offered evidence to that effect. all they said is an abundance of caution. well, in america liberty is more than that. >> reporter: among the guidelines in this court order is that kaci hickox has to have regular visits from health officials, also not allowed to travel. she's allowed to leave her house but not to crowded public places, she can go as long as she is not within three feet of other people. >> all right. stephanie, thanks very much. >> natalie is here with a new investigation, the killing of osama bin laden. >> a former member of steel team 6 who wrote the book now under criminal investigation.

at question is whether or not matthew bissonette disclosed classified information in the book "no easy day." according to "the new york times" investigator are looking into paid speech hess gave. bissonette has apologized for not having the book vetted through the pentagon. >> a series of explosions at a fireworks factory in england leaves four people hurt and one worker is still missing. nearby homes and businesses were evacuated. others told to stay indoors. the cause of the incident now under investigation. it was down to the wire for a jumper on thursday. he was stuck dangling 150 feet in the air for more than two hours. firefighters say the man probably climbed the tv tower and jumped off. the the man became entangled in the wires off the tower with his parachute deployed. a couple of hours later they were able ta pull him to safety. he was taken from the scene in handcuffs by ambulance.

the dallas nurse who recovered from ebola will be reunited with her dog after tests revealed the pet was ebola-free. the pet was removed and placed in a 21-day quarantine after she was placed in isolation. she was released from the hospital after being declared free of the disease. you imagine how joyful that is going to be. a new york subway ride comes to a halt because of a drill, not a fire drill but a giant drill bit that pierced the ceiling of a subway tunnel. a construction crew was working in queens when the drill was accidentally used in the wrong place and scraped the side of a subway train which was carrying 800 people inside. thankfully nobody was hurt. the train stopped and passengers were led back to the subway platform. something you would see out of a movie. >> that is terrifying. you are packed in there. >> 800 people. >> wow. >> why don't we drill here.

spending millions, they are going to show up to the polls. they are probably leaning against the president, but they are not happy about it. >> the republicans need to take six seats to take control of the senate. where do you see the most competitive spots? >> three states that are my desert island races. if you told me the results of iowa, colorado, and kansas, i'd have a good idea who would control the senate. republicans start with three in the bag already. so among those three, if one party wins two of those three races, they are going to control the senate and right now i think all three of them are within two points. >> let's talk ebola for a second. sort of emerged as an issue. the people are upset how the federal government handled this. a couple of states, new jersey and maine. how big of an issue you think ebola is going to be? >> it's interesting in traveling the country and the states i was in, whether it was the midwest or the south, ebola wasn't a

huge issue in the senate races, for these voters but in these states illinois, georgia, you brought up maine, there are very highly contested gubernatorial races and that's where ebola has been an issue because you have major airports there, or of course the one nurse that is in maine. and so it could play but voters aren't holding one party against the other on this. so, while it's an issue, i don't know if it sways an undecided voter. >> chuck, hopping on that bus and coming home now? is it over? >> of course. it's sort of over. i'm going to be back in louisiana in december, you guys got crazy rules down here. >> that's very true. for a wrap of the races catch "meet the press" this sunday. and nbc will have special live coverage of the results roll in tuesday night at 10:00, 9:00 central time. >> let's turn on to sports. nba superstar lebron james probably could win an election

a good friday halloween morning to you, i'm sam brock. get ready to party and revel. dedicated giants fans are lining up along the parade route, ready to celebrate their team's third championship in just five years. by the time the parade kicks off at noon, organizers expect to see more than a million people out on the routes. the giants no stranger to victory parades, we've done this back in 2010 and two years ago in 2012. here is a quick look at the parade route. that will start at embarcadero, ending at the civic center plaza. let's get a check on the rain.

>> we're still recovering. >> crazy. crazy. >> let's first get a look at what's making headline this is morning. accused cop killer eric frein is being arraigned this morning. he was taken into custody near an abandoned airplane hangar last night after a nearly seven-week manhunt. crews are working to recover the victims of a tragic plane accident in kansas. a small plane lost power and slammed into a building at an airport in wichita, killing the pilot and at least three people inside. the national guard is now being deployed to an historic village in hawaii to help deal with that slow-moving lava flow. 83 troops will provide security and man roadblocks as the natural disaster advances. meanwhile we'll be talking with nik wallenda, as the dare devil is preparing for this weekend's risky tightrope walk high above the windy city of chicago. did we mention he will do part of the walk blindfolded? >> you and willie will be there. >> we'll be more nervous than he is. he looks pretty calm.

let's start this half hour of the video we showed you this week. a woman's encounter while walking through new york city is provoking strong reaction. this morning, the women behind it are speaking out. tamron? >> yes, hoda, when does a compliment turn into a catcall? that's one of the many questions about that video now being debated across social media. when the video of a hidden camera experiment capturing the sights and sounds of a woman's experience walking the streets of new york city is posted online, it became a social media phenomenon, with more than 20 million views since it debuted tuesday. the group behind the video wants to raise awareness of street harassment. >> my dream of all dreams is that street harassers watch this en mass and think, god, i had no idea the impact this had on women as they walk down the street. >> reporter: it did not provoke that reaction for some. >> i do not see harassment there, none, zero. >> we think about these things differently. >> reporter: when actress shoshanna roberts heard about the casting call, she jumped at

the chance to show what a typical day is like for her. >> i'm telling my story so someone can understand and walk in my shoes for two minutes. >> reporter: she says she received a lot of positive feedback from the video, she has also received threats of rape and violence, some so extreme, she's taking them to the police. a recent report by an advocacy group found more than half of all women have experienced verbal harassment on the street. and two-thirds of the harassed women were concerned it would escalate into something worse. >> it can make them fearful. they never know what the intention is behind men who may be saying things to them. are they going to escalate their attention, grab them, assault them? everybody has had a story that's happened to them or someone they know. wives, sisters, nieces, your aunts, your daughters. >> so, another criticism of the

video concerns the ethnicity of the harassers shown in the clips, with some calling all of the white people saying they were all edited out. she walked in neighborhoods all over manhattan and experienced 100 instances of harassment but only the most egregious ones. and the videographer said he had some audio problems, so a lot of men were not heard that he would have used and many of those, he said, were white. >> do you believe there's a thin line or broad line between a compliment and catcall? >> i think it's tonal. >> i think it's how you feel. when someone says, hey, pretty, i say hi. i don't get defensive but it's -- >> depends on tone. if they're leering, following you. >> that's scary. >> men were following her. >> thanks, tamron. let's get a check of the weather from mr. roker. >> announcer: "today's" sunday night football weather is

some chili powder going in here and we have some more garlic powder, herbs and salt and a little bit of sugar in there and then we're going to pump this with some hot sauce. that's about a tablespoon. >> would you mareinate this well in advance? >> no, marinate this for about ten minutes before you put it in the oven. it's a very fast recipe. >> i notice you kept the little tips on the wings because it makes it look more like the bat wing. >> those are the crunchy parts that everybody loves. >> exactly. all right. you mush that around in there. >> you mush this all around. >> how long will these cook and at what temperature? >> nice and dark and black. look at this. these will go into the oven at 375 for 20 minutes and then what you're going to do is turn the heat up to 425. and cook them for another 20 minutes. >> you use one of these racks that elevates it above the pan. >> absolutely. the fat drips down and off. >> when it comes out, this is what it looks like. after that amount of time, i would imagine the meat just fall

as off the bone. >> make these little stuffed bites for me. >> this is the best kept secret in the frozen section of the grocery store. potatoes stuffed with cheese and bacon already frozen. these are jalapeno paupers that have been breaded. you can get those in the frozen section. you put them in the oven, 20 minutes. very semi-homemade. what we have here is just sour cream and all you do to make your little mummies is go back and forth with the sour cream. then what you're going to do is doll this up and put some eyes on here. >> all you've done is cut up some olives here. >> cut up some olives and put a nice little mouth on that. a smily face or maybe not a smily face. >> make a scary face. you've got your mummy. >> you've got your little mummies. cocktail first or skewer? >> let's go with the skewer first. >> you do skewers and you take all sorts of candies and lick

orish and stack them on to a skewer, of course, cut up your licorice. >> a blood red martini. >> this is simple syrup, equal parts sugar and water and half a cup and then two cups of orange vodka and two cups of blood orange juice and around the rim, very easy to do. do you want to do it. >> you're better at this. >> i also have some little vampire. >> you can hang that from the side just for effect. >> take the gel, normally cake decorating gel and go all the way around the glass. >> you're better than i am. >> i need you to do this so i can make the garnish. >> what are these? >> aren't these cute? >> those are eyeballs. >> all you do is they come canned and just take it and take just chocolate chip and put them inside and you have cool eye balls. put that in your drink and

welcome back. 9:28 the time right now. rain is falling in san francisco, right at ocean beach and sunset district where we're seeing the heaviest part of it. there it is making its way into san francisco, down through pacifica and half moon bay. the oranges and red you see here, that denotes very heavy rainmaking its way towards daley city, south san francisco, and eventually into the east bay. rain is on tap most of the day, so keep the umbrellas handy and jackets, as well, temperatures going to be cool, mid 60s for highs today. let's talk about the drive with mike. >> we saw the live cameras you showed, mist and drizzle on many lenses. here's the green, traffic tied together, the wet roads is what shows up for the green. anywhere north of that dunbarton bridge, the south bay getting slick roadways, as well. lighter volume of traffic around

the bay, but bart experiencing ten to 15-minute delays. bart is key to getting to the parade today. starting to tie up south of the market area, between the bay bridge and the parade and civic center itself. look at the bay bridge, backup is gone, but now we have wet roads. again, mass transit, but bart out of the coliseum, parking lots are full again, so that's tough. you can get a train but not a parking space. back to you. >> we have more local news coming up for you in just about a half hour. of course, more on how to get to the giants parade coming up in 30 minutes.

they have special feathers so they can fly in absolute silence. they can see in all the pitch darkness. check out thosaae talons. use those to crush and impale their prey. an owl symbolizes halloween, spookiness and darkness. at the same time, obviously, that is a myth. these are beautiful animals. they need our protection. >> i thought he rotates his head. >> they can turn their head 270 degrees around. >> checking you out, willie. >> they can't go all the way around like the exorcist. their head would pop off but that allows them to see behind them in case a predator is coming after them. >> what's their prey? >> small mammals, rodents. great horned owls, similar to this guy, eat skunks. one of the only animals that eats skunks. i'm going to put my bow down. this is a black and white lemur. >> hi, buddy. >> critically endangered species. lemur comes from the latin word for ghost.

they're called the ghosts of the forest. we'll go down and let her get her treat there is. >> what's she eating? >> gummy candies. that's her treat for coming out. the black and white is sort of like a skeleton. critically endangered animal. the national wildlife federation is all about getting people involved in conservation. we can save species like this, the owl and all the other animals out there. >> she's a candy junkie. >> yes, yes. >> they use those hands to grasp on the branches. this long tail that she has helps to balance as she's jumping through the trees. >> she did not like that. >> how old is she? >> few years old, fully grown adult. beautiful animal. right? >> what happened to their habitat? >> it's being destroyed. they live in forests in madagascar. it's being destroyed for fuel and agriculture. a critically endangered species. there's only a few thousand of these left.

good morning, everyone, 10:26. i'm scott mcgrew. reports of breaking news in walnut creek, explosion and fire and a partial collapse of some kind of building. it's happening on sunnyvale avenue. this is just north of main street and just west of 680.

we have a number of crews on the way. i've talked to a number of people on the phone in the area, who independently heard this explosion. contra costa county fire telling us they are treating a burn victim, as well. we certainly have lots of crews headed to the scene. we'll have lots of news for you coming up at 11:00. in the meantime, we're going to go to break, then check your weather and traffic.
