what's your favorite part about the bay area? >> it's because my family lives here. but i love the cultures here. we have such a variety. we can go. >> north 101, typical slowing, 85 really kicking over the last few. we'll watch this as it develops. of the earlier fire reported just underneath highway 87, it was on a surface street, so much of a nonissue, they barely put it in their books but they did have to. typical slowing. there's a little bit of red. big slowing just sourt of 288. there's your build through hayward and your build for west 92. your typical tri-valley starting to kick in right now. and no surprises for 84, getting that cut over from 580 over to

brussels and finally liberia where dr. lay will insert himself into one of the ebola hot zones. he'll work to help those people with the deadly disease. doctor, you have a young daughter. why take this trip? >> it's part of my training and one of the things i have worked hard to do overs last ten years. it's a matter of social justice. there's a huge injustice that's happening over there in west africa and people like me, doctors who are committed to improving health care in poor settings, that's what we're trained to do. it's kind of like being a firefighter and seeing a huge unckocontained fire and helpingt on the front lines. >> we've seen you pack bringing face masks, shields, cover-alls. of course there's still a risk you can contract this.

are you concerned? how concerned are you? >> i have a healthy dose of anxiety about contracting ebola of course, but i also know that there are things i can do to really reduces risk to as close to zero as possible. there's never a zero risk. but with the proper training i received and the equipment i have brought with me, i think i'm pretty prepared to reduce that risk. and ebola while it's deadly, it doesn't kill people unless you don't get any health care. as you've seen in the u.s., every single person in the u.s. who has had ebola has survived, except for the one who wasn't diagnosed early. and so ebola, while there is no absolute cure for it with supportive care and technology that we have in the u.s., we can save people. >> doctor, stay safe and i

there's a lot going on around here and the weather is going to maintain. we're talking about beautiful conditions, not just today. for your friday, which is tomorrow, that's the good news and saturday and sunday, holding on to gorgeous levels. and then the changes come your way as we head throughout monday, tuesday, wednesday, even thursday of next week. temperatures dropping and we bring on the much-needed rainfall that's in the forecast. so enjoy this weekend as it will stay dry. temperatures mostly in the 40s and 50s to kick off the day. we're at 49 in livermore, 57 degrees. that's comfortable in san francisco. and part of the reason why is because of the clouds that we have trapping in some of the warmth from yesterday serving as a blanket over the gorgeous bay area that we get to call home. conditions are going to be nice this weekend for any sort of the outdoor plans. even your beaches are going to be comfortable. you'll be at 72 degrees on the peninsula. wine country looking spectacular. 77 degrees later on today, out

on the east shore, temperatures ending up in the low 70s as well. so you know what, if you have a request, if you have an event that maybe youin want to forecast for, just go ahead and ask me on my facebook page. i love bringing the whole community together, letting you all know about what's going on this weekend. let's talk about what's happening on sunday in in san francisco, the 2014 veterans parade will be a big celebration out there. 2:00, 73 degrees. a lot of people are going to be off on monday, even tuesday for the holiday. keep that in mind. conditions are going to be nice all the way through monday. then we bring on those changes. let's talk about that and our next rain event. we stop the clock for you on tuesday of next week at 9:00 a.m., showers starting to push into the north bay. that will continue all the way through your wednesday, even getting showers on thursday. so really talking about a whole new pattern as we get into next week. but we need the rain so this is really a blessing.

mike? >> that's the mantra, "we need the rain, we need the rain." look at this, a little break for west 580. look at the bigger shot for our maps and the speed sensors. that's the period where we get a little bit of a break. we typically see this compression start. you might want to makt longer drive over toward the dublin interchange. a nice, easy drive for the wear of 680, 24 but there's your build over there through concord and pleasant hill. the worst of it, 24 west bond over the westbound 580 where the compression happens over toward the maze. but the maze does move smoothly. slowing over there on the east bay for hayward. over toward the san mateo bridge and to the san mateo side.

there may be a little fog there, especially as we move up toward daily city and pacifica. the orange and red, really starting to see that build for volume. we talked about highway one and look at palo alto, the opposite problem is going on. we saw a little slowing just as the sun peaked -- peeked out. because of the time change, the sunrise happening earlier. >> thanks so much. commuters could find relief on a stretch of the highway known for some of the nastiest traffic jams. kris sanchez joins us this morning. there is a chance to build some toll lanes north on 85. >> reporter: well, they say

diamonds are a girl's best friend or a guy's best friend. the vta will decide whether to move forward with diamond lanes for pay from san jose to mountain view. it would turn the 27 miles of existing hov lanes to express lanes. and they are considering adding a second car pool lane between 280 and 87. car poolers could use all of this for free. but solo drivers could also use any of the car pooling, too. they would just have to pay a toll and that would be determined by the volume of traffic. that revenue would be reinvested in the. >> if the board goes forward, final design could come later this year and then finally the

charges in court next week. >> this controversial killing comes amid a national debate sparked by former bay area residents brittany mayor nard. m may. >> she said she didn't want to die but if she was going to, she wanted to do it on her own terms. >> the price of going to a u.c. could soon be going up, much to the chagrin of student and parents. nanette miranda is live at u.c. berkeley. this comes to a surprise to students who were promised a tuition freeze, right? >> reporter: yes. governor brown has already given the campus a 5% funding boost, plus another 4% increase in each of the next two budget years and all of that on the condition that tuition not be raised. so this certainly comes as a surprise. under u.c. president janet

napolitano's five consider-year plan, tuition now is just over $12,000 a year. next fall, it could be closer to $13,000 a year. look at 2019, $15,500 a year, far more expensive than when i went to cal. raising tuition would break an agreement uc has to freeze tuition in exchange for state funding over the next few years. he recently vetoed the $50 million lawmakers wanted to give u.c. for deferred maintenance. now this proposal really opens the door for criticism in previous discussions of tuition hikes, critics point out that u.c. continues to give pay raises to top executives while
