it is friday. coming up on "early today," meet the man from s.e.a.l. team 6 who claims to have pulled the trigger and killed osama bin laden. we'll reveal the fascinating details behind the abducted philadelphia nurse. plus, a big football town rests its arms around a player's daughter battling cancer. and the ad that's sweeping the globe. it's friday, november 7th. good morning, everyone. i'm dara brown. a dramatic attack by a hospital patient has injured several nurses in minnesota. the whole thing was captured on a hospital security camera. you can see 68-year-old charles logan swinging a metal pole through the nurses' station. police say logan had been hospitalized with episodes of confusion. medical staff believe he may have had paranoia. logan died after being handcuffed by police. now authorities are investigating what caused his death. at least one nurse suffered a collapsed lung. another fractured her wrist. others had cuts and bruises. stunning new revelations about the company behind the massive air bag recall. it may have knowingly put lives at risk. this allegation comes from two former employees at takata manufacturing plant in michigan. they told the new york times back in 2004, the japanese company conducted secret tests on air bags, found significant flaws in the inflaters, but never reported their findings to federal regulators.

instead, executives discounted the results, ordered the lab technicians to delete the testing data from computers and put air bag inflaters in the trash. a spokesman for the company declined to comment on the allegations. the report came out on the same day that a company executive issued a general apology for the recall. meanwhile, honda is recalling an additional yet undisclosed amount of cars because of the air bags, which are made by takata. the expanded recall comes after another request by the us federal government for documents pertaining to the air bags. the faulty air bags are responsible for four deaths. new details are emerging about how police were able to rescue a philadelphia woman after she had been kidnapped off the street. prosecutors have now filed kidnapping charges against delven barnes. we learned a gps tracking device played a role in helping police find her. turns out, a car dealer had placed the device in the suspect's vehicle out of fear that the car might need to be

repossessed because of a bad credit report. barnes has been extradited to virginia where he's been charged in another abduction case. this time involving a 16-year-old girl. gaither meanwhile is said to be resting comfortably at an undisclosed location. on his way to cover a murder, a news cameraman gets caught up in the story himself. the australian photographer was driving to a crime scene when the suspect, this man, flagged him down with blood stained hands. in front of a camera, he asked peter to call the police. but that was just the beginning. >> he was more than willing at first to go quietly. but i suppose something twisted in his mind that i'm going to do it in a big way. the suspect gets into the car, points a gun straight at the photographer and hijacks his news van. dash cam footage shows him speed down the road and slam into a sign. he ends up in front of a gas tank, police swarm moments after

the collision and arrest the suspect. the men who killed osama bin laden revealed. a former member of navy s.e.a.l. team 6 has come forward. but his story doesn't line up with another. not lost in all of this, a breach of that honor code of secrecy. nbc's cynthia mcfadden has more. >> reporter: s.e.a.l. team 6, the elite navy unit that took down osama bin laden, has been glorified in films like "zero dark thirty" ". now the team is embroiled in a war of its own, with two former s.e.a.l.s breaking their code of silence, each telling a different version of the historic events. >> i'm not telling any secrets, i'm not breaking any rules, but we'll have a lot of fun. >> reporter: robert o'neil has been on the motivational speaking circuit. he identified himself in the washington post as the man who killed osama bin laden. another team member, matt bissonnette wrote a book, in

which he described it somewhat differently, with three commandos firing shots that hit bin laden. he asked us not to show his face. >> two different people telling two different stories and for two different reasons. >> reporter: the men have divided a historically secretive s.e.a.l. community, with some saying both are profiting off the backs of all the team members. last week, the s.e.a.l.s top commander wrote an open letter saying, we do not abide willful or selfish disregard for our core values in return for public notoriety and financial gain. and warned of legal consequences for those who place our teammates at risk. >> if classified information is accidentally released to the world, s.e.a.l.s can get killed, innocent people can get killed, other american military people can get killed. that's what this is all about. >> reporter: as for o'neil and bissonnette, they agree on one thing. they say they have the right to speak out. but you signed a nondisclosure agreement to not talk about any

stories making news this friday morning, the army national guard is mourning the death of two of its soldiers. they died when their helicopter crashed two miles south of the airport in boise, idaho. the soldiers were on a training mission. same sex marriage once again heading to the supreme court. this time the supremes might be compelled to hear the cases. the federal appeals court upheld gay marriage bans in ohio, michigan, tennessee and kentucky. this comes a month after the supreme court essentially paved wait for same sex marriage in several states after refusing to hear cases. the pentagon is coming clean

after a decade of ignoring reports that troops were exposed to chemical agents while fighting in iraq. the pentagon tells new york times that 600 soldiers came forward with the information, defense secretary chuck hagel says he discovered the report after an internal audit. lack of evidence forced a new zealand prosecutor to drop murder for hire charges against ac/dc drummer phil rudd, but charges stem from allegations that the rock band drummer hired a hit man to kill two men. facebook users can donate directly to those fighting ebola in africa. facebook is also sending 100 internet and phone terminals for aid workers in ebola-stricken countries. great idea, right? take a look at zuckerberg's response after a facebook user called the initiative a marketing stunt. zuckerberg simply said, quote, i personally donated $25 million. guess that settles that.

well, stocks remain in record territory on the heels of the elections. home depot says 53 million e-mail addresses were swiped from its network. it is warning customers to be on guard against scams that might trick them into sharing personal information. this holiday season, the post office will be delivering packages seven days a week in major cities to keep up with the competition. it is also approved brand-new forever stamps featuring rudolph, kermie, santa and bumble from the classic "rudolph the red nosed reindeer." and check out triumph's latest holiday creation, the disney themed social bra based on the film "frozen" take six months to perfect. and victoria's secret faced a flurry of chrriticism over this ad, the perfect body. it was changed to a body for everybody. in 2005, the cia commissioned the creator of the gi joe doll to develop a osama

coming up on "today," this sunday marks 25 years since the fall of the berlin wall. nbc's tom brokaw was the only american network anchor reporting from berlin that night. this morning, he looks back at the historic event. and now it is time to the latest in sports with my friend betty nguyen. good morning, betty. >> good morning, dara. we begin with college football. wake forest gets the early lead on 21st ranked clemson. the tigers clawed their way back. tie at 20 in the fourth, clemson runs away with the win, 34-20. houston, mano ginobili sat out and tim duncan. dwight howard, welcome to the alley-oop party. howard scoring a whopping 32 points and 16 rebounds in the 98-81 victory. a very scary moment on the ice. check out this hiss.

weekend after a wet period through the end of october, beginning of november. all the wet weather we have out there will be moving and heading into areas of the upper plains. now, as far as saturday goes, still holding on to very warm conditions here. phoenix, very nice, all the way to tucson, sedona, back to flagstaff, should be great. medford, portland, boise, no problems at all. in sunday, we're still holding on to nice weather, it does look like we will start to see a few showers sneaking back in here to the northwest. not a very rainy sunday, but showers. we hold on to that warmth in southern california, no end in sight to that. >> tranquil and beautiful, sounds beautiful. thank you so much. a huge weekend at the box office. christopher nolan's "interstellar" is expected to gross $66 million. disney's animated pic "big hero 6" should earn 58 million. >> you going to see it? >> not this weekend. i am going to see this one. the highly anticipated film, "the theory of everything," gets limited release this weekend.

leading the news in florida's ft. myers news press, cape coral man buys foreclosed home and finds body inside. this 911 call says it all. >> what happened? >> i bought a house at a tax-deed auction and apparently the reason it was full of unpaid taxes, the owner died and she couldn't pay her taxes. nobody ever came and she's still in the house. >> he's way too calm for finding a dead body. >> creepy. from engadget.com, a new system developed by ford monitors if officers are flashing their sirens to get through red lights, driving over 110 miles per hour and even if they're not wearing a seat belt. it then sends that info to their supervisors.

some other stories we're following. an elderly woman caused a chain reaction crash in southwest china. she crossed a busy road during rush hour. a bus slams on the breaks to avoid hitting her and veers into the truck before hitting the woman and a second bus. at least ten people were injured. amazingly though the elderly woman only suffered some bone fractures. >> wow. >> very, very lucky. in a rare outreach, president obama has written a letter to iran's supreme leader about the fight against isis. sources tell "the wall street journal" the letter was sent last month and that it outlined a shared interest in fighting isis militants in iraq and syria. a 90-year-old florida man is in trouble with the law again for feeding homeless people. arnold abbott and two church pastors were arrested twice this week for serving meals in fort lauderdale park in violation of a new city ordinance. abbott vowed to continue his work. after being online for only 24 hours, a new christmas ad from the u.k. got almost 4 million views.
