injuries the man sustained or how he came to find himself on the front doorstep of a home here behind me. we do know that a 50-year-old man did call 911 around 1:00 this morning to report he saw that man on the front step of his home. when officers arrived, he was transported to the hospital but we don't know yet what kind of injuries or what his condition is. >> came out here and contacted a 50-year-old gentleman regarding an injured person he located on his front doorstep. upon arrival, we located an injured person inside the residence that was eventually transported to receive medical aid. >> so that 34-year-old man is at the hospital, unknown condition, unknown injuries. the 50-year-old man is at the police department talking with investigators, who are trying to piece together how this all happened. one thing we can rule out at this point based on what the

police have told us, it doesn't appear to be any sort of burglary or home invasion. >> a bit of a mystery this morning. thank you very much, kris. >> at 6:04, we have new details on a shooting involving a san francisco police officer and a gunman. investigators say the officer was trailing a suspect when the suspect turned and and shot him. they say the suspect's gun was loaded and drugs in his pocket. >> at 8:45 last night, very l g investigators found one victim

with multiple gunshot wounds. a second victim walked into the hospital and died from his injuries. two people have been shot in san francisco since tuesday night. >> what a happening at san jose's police department? officials plan to investigate. >> they will look into whether they are trying to sabotage the department. some say the mayor has encouraged cadets to leave. the union has argued that measure b which cut pension benefits has led to an exodus of officers and made it difficult too hire new ones. last week we spoke with a cadet

>> the temperature is lower than the speed of traffic. a lot of people tap -- this is a free lunch but it's actually san jose. as you get out and about, we're getting into the most dangerous time frame. between now and about 6:45 the fog is going to be at its worst. the good news is so far we've been checking in with mike and people have been behaving out there this morning. like i said, had is the time to put up your guard, especially if you're taking the little ones to school. the sun will set just after 5:00. even with the shorter days, our

temperatures will be warm today in the 70s. and over the weekend we'll trade in the 70s for the 80s. look at all that fog. taking a look at the peninsula gra grael. >> first, let check your drive. at least try to help people to get to work on time. it could be a tough one, mike. >> the conditions could be tough but it friday so we'll see a little bit lighter volume of traffic. some folks are maybe trying to take a longer weekend. in oakland, we can't see much farther than we could before. it all the way up to just short of high street.

if but then the bay bridge toll plaza shows a good break and you can see the oakland hills behind it. just be prepared for lower disability and cover those brakes. now look at the map. anywhere north of the bay bridge does have a clearing. we'll talk about the orange highlighting. that means there should be fog in the area, which is what we saw in oakland. the tri-valley, west 580, there's a new crash that may be sticking out in your slow lane. and anywhere south of the san mateo bridge is starting to see a problem. .

it asks how much do you think we should be paying you? it has 10,000 different candidates that it looked at. for women they apparently asked less than men do. the average starting pay in high tech according to the study is $124,000. yes, i said that is correct the average starting pay in tech. $124,000. for rim it's 104,000. none of this is particularly shocking. facebook's sheryl sandberg has been saying for years that she joys the zbhrchl that's a solid number right there. >> now, as far as we've seen

in the north bay. as we get into that all important weekend, there's a lot going on around here. raiders, doesn't go to san antonio! why would you do that? broncos versus raiders on sunday. temperatures are going to be comfortable for a game in the mid 70s. even at 5:00 p.m. hopefully after a big raiders win, temperatures are looking good at about 69 degrees. >> it's all about the raiders staying right here. what do you think? >> i think if they do want to go somewhere called san antonio, go to mountain view, there's a san antonio shopping center and great restaurants and they can visit. >> fog is measuring on our road traffic index. this is where we're seeing dense fog registering for a lower drive. the traffic slows for 101.

christina showed up those shots puerto rico downtown. very tough to see. vta service is not reporting any delays. on the peninsula side you're doing all right. lower than a quarter mile visibility so you have to lower those speeds for safety sake. and to high street but north of there we lose sight of the freeway. dense fog conditions for 880 as well as 580. approaching the bay bridge toll plaza where it's another clear patch. those low cloud hovering around the deck.

because of the fog, temperatures are going to struggle to break out of the 50s and 60s until we hit lunch time. really cool get to tell you about. the sun comes up at 6:44 this morning. as that sun comes up, it warms up that top layer of fog and it clears from the top down but it's going to be gradual clearing for today. nonetheless, we'll see temperatures near 80 degrees later on out in the north bay. so a comfortable day for you and that's actually one of the places where the fog is not that bad this morning. we're seeing the heaviest fog right here in downtown san jose and up and down the peninsula, especially south of highway 92. your sun will set add about 5:05. even with our days getting shorter, we are going to warm you up as we head into your weekend. in fact, a good 5 to 10 degrees warmer between today and tomorrow. we're still counting on showers

southbound 880, we did have an earlier crash and that is slower. i turn it back to one issue -- a look at the bay bridge toll blaz a, but they may have the metering lights turned on cross that time. you just want to take it easy because the edges are well marked, you have good lighting there. take your time to crash. >> you don't want to hit a patch. >> slow down if need be. the unemployment and job growth picture a good one this morning. how will it impact the markets? >> reporter: good morning to you. the markets hit an intra day high before retreating a quarter percent there. you mentioned the jobs, 214,000

one man is being treated for injuries. >> a bigger unit of crime scene investigation has just arrived, taking on a more serious tone with the csu crew arriving. it all started around 1:00 this morning when a 50-year-old man called 911 from inside one of the homes behind me. he told dispatchers he found an injured man on his doorstep outside. when they arrived, they found an injured 34-year-old man on the doorstep. >> we found an injured person

inside the residence and he was transported to receive aid. >> the 34-year-old man was transported to the hospital and the 50-year-old man is at the police station. police appear to be ruling out for now burglary because when the 50-year-old man did call 911, he did not make any reference to any intruder or burglary in progress. we'll have more details for you during the "today" show at 7:25. >> and more details on a shooting involving a san francisco police officer and a gunman. this happened just before 8:00

feet in san jose. so it's one of those mornings. this doesn't happen very often, even in the wintertime, maybe a handful of days like this. just keep in mind it's really thick out there. we're at the worst point because as the sun comes up, it hits that wall of white and your visibility this is downtown san jose. this is downtown san jose as well. you can't even see the shark tank, which is there, believe me. . your sun sets just after 5:00. as a result of that you would think temperatures would start to drop off but as a result of high pressure firmly in control, not on is it compressing all the moisture out there and forcing it to the surface, it's going to bring the temperatures up into the 80s tomorrow.

car went off the road and i do see slowing now on the approach. crews may have just arrived. i'll check that out. the map will show you south of there we have more fog registering on our index. that's the orange all over the map. fog conditions slow you down at the san mateo bridge. fremont, typical pattern for a friday. it's tough to make out with the orange background we have because of the fog but we have slower speeds into the zone as well. very unusual and this amount of it, low visibility through san jose. we're going to see a very slow drive developing over the next hour. that will impact the rest of your morning. we're looking anywhere south of the san mateo bridge. low visibility, the fog kicking in. right across the street from ikea, we can't really see across the street. if you study it, you can see a few cars. that shows you how light the

volume of traffic is. we'll look at the san mateo bridge, or what we can see of it. on this side we do have the taillights so you can tell it's a live picture. we just can't see more than about a few hundred feet. and the bay bridge was clear from an earlier shot but the bay bridge toll plaza wasn't clear and now the fog and low clouds have drifted in across the span. fortunately on friday, a little lighter traffic volume so it's not quite as good as it could be. >> a group in san francisco is taking action today urging the ci city. >> voters approved two new traffic funding measures in the

city on election day. the funding safety advocates say it should go toward safety improvement. they'll hold at rally at city hall concerning the city's most dangerous streets. >> over in cupertino people are taking action to make streets safer for bikers. a dozen showed up at a town hall meeting last night, one week after 15-year-old ethan was hit and killed by a truck on mcclellan road. people wanted to know why that happened and what they can do to keep their children safe. >> a lot of drivers will cut into the biking lane either unintentionally or intentionally to make a turn. >> now we want pedestrians to look both way and to make eye contact with the driver.

>> it's 6:52. in a few hours, san jose will consider appointing an independent investigator to look into the hiring practices of the police department. the mayor is alleging the police union is trying to sabotage its own department. >> mayor chuck reid says measure b encouraged the police cadets to leave. the union has argued that has led to an absence of officers and made it difficult to hire new ones. undland believes the allegations are political and they're trying to buttress support for sam liccardo, who is a big supporter

of measure b. in two hours, the san jose city council convene in a special meeting to decide whether or not they should appoint a special investigator to look into these allegations. >> thank you for the update. >> protesters in san francisco are crying foul saying the city is out of bound and jumping the gun on new and yet the city of san francisco has already begun renovations at the soccer field to replace the real grass with artificial turf. i see protesters are starting to trickle in at this construction entrance and at another entrance nearby. they have signs and people blocking the gate. one of those protesters is joining me right now. thank you for joining us. proposition h, which bans the
