out in the north bay. we're all going to need it tomorrow morning. more on the upcoming rain in moments. first, we're starting out with a traffic alert. good morning, mike. >> good morning. now better news, no major injuries from what i understand now. waiting on official word, though. a truck overturned over off the dublin interchange. this e. video just into the newsroom, truck on its side. that was carrying 23,000 pounds of frozen turkeys heading cards towards costco. the turkeys are all right but so much drainage they have to possibly offload it to rht the truck. also a fuel spill in the area. they have to clone ean up. the impact on the commute, the off ramp is closed for a couple of hours. dublin interchange moves smoothly, 580 not the concern, it's southbound 680 at alcosta boulevard, enter bullinger

canyon and count on that through the morning. if you happen to pass that, go down to dublin boulevard after -- stone ridge and pass it and take 680 north. that's a long work around. >> any estimates? 6:30? >> maybe, yes. >> thank you. 4:32 now. grief counselors will be at san lorenzo high school. a teen hit last night crossing the street at ashland and east 14th in unincorporated san leandro. stephanie chuang in san leandro. police still looking for the driver. >> reporter: last check the driver still on the run. victim, we're told, just 14 years old. it was around 6:30 when this hit-and-run happened here at the intersection of east 14th and ashton. the boy was halfway across the street when the car struck him, sending him into the air, and here by the bus stop, where there's a stuffed animal where

the boy landed. investigators took away a scooter, presumably the vict victim's. they first saw a reckless driver south of ashton. when the driver refused to pull over, a pursuit began. witnesses heard the pursuit and saw the hit-and-run that claimed the young boy's life. >> the young boy crashed in the street, i hear sirens and i believe a high-speed chase and the car came when the boy was in the middle of the street, he got hit, flew into the air and land over there, by where the bus stop sign is at. >> reporter: the chp is investigating the clwhile the sheriff's office is investigating. investigators taking away all evidence from the scene last night but also looking for surveillance footage to help. this victim, a student at san lorenzo high school, this morning there will be grief counselors for anyone who may

need them. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. >> really sad. yesterday a driver, who hit and killed an elderly woman yesterday, this person is facing dui charges. the incident happened after 4:00 yesterday on south king road and barbarry lane. that victim, a 74-year-old woman, on her way to the laundromat hit and killed in the crosswalk of the driver remained on scene, he was then take. to the hospital for chest pains. later, police announced he's being charged with driving under the influence. today a judge may set a trial date for the man accused of killing sierra lamar. pleading not guilty to charges he kidnapped and killed the 15-year-old in 2012. a hearing to set his trial date in september was postponed until today. investigators say lamar's hair was found on a rope inside the trunk of torres's car and dna

was found on her clothing but her body was never found. the case against suspended state senator leland yee could be moving forward. yee will be back in court, as lawyers and a judge work to separate his case from a long list of other defendants also arrested in that fbi raid. he faces various charges including corruption, bribery, gun trafficking. arrested in march with raymond shrimp boy chow. the former president keith jackson also arrested along with 26 other people. 4:35. thousands of nurses across the country are joining nurses around the bay area on a second day of a two-day strike. thousands of nurses walked off the job yesterday at 21 northern california hospitals and 35 clinics. nurses say kaiser is taking insufficient ebola precautions. today, more nurses all over california and 14 other states will picket to support those

claims. kaiser calls it a tactic in its ongoing contract negotiations. today's biggest rally planned for downtown oakland. kaiser says facilities will remain open but some elected procedures have been rescheduled. san jose police are talking drones tonight. police department has received widespread criticism after buying a drone without telling the public first. so the department set up a series of public meetings to explain how it works. the department's deputy chief will give the presentation to the san jose neighborhood commission at city hall 6:30. if you'd like to be part of the discussion, the presentation will likely include more details about how the bomb squad will be using the drone. the "mercury news" reporting the aclu is pushing bay area cities to create laws to regulate the way the police agencies utilize drones. in a report released today, aclu notes several instances where police departments were not honest enough when it came to use of drones or high-tech

equipment, such as cell phone intercepters. the report uses san jose day's drone purchase as an example of why input should be mandatory for department spies to use drones. the state will not review procedures, the state asked for an independent review of election day procedures. the day before the election the i.t. manager quit, leading to speculation about the process. santa clara the slowest county in the state to release election night results. however, the palo alto weekly reports, state's fully confident the results do not require an independent review. 4:37 right now on your wednesday. there will be a community meeting held this evening to discuss the future of the santa clara county fair grounds. among the questions looked at, how will grounds best serve the community and what needs to be done to improve the facility? the county's planning to develop the fair grounds. tonight's meeting, 7:00, fiesta

hall at the fair grounds. right now a spacecraft headed toward a two-mile wide comet appearing to make a tricky robotic maneuver. >> the spacecraft will harpoon a smaller wash machine size probe into the comet and the probe will drill itself on to the icy surface of the comet and attach itself. then, it will take samples. overnight there was a problem with the craft's descent system which would have kept the craft from bouncing off the surface. the space agency will have to rely on that harpoon system. the other problem, it's happening 300 million miles away from the earth. the scientists can't send instructions in real-time. confirmation of the successful landing won't reach earth until 8:00 a.m. fascinating how they're able to plan all of that. >> tiny target for a harpoon. see how that goes. 4:38.

check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. take a look at current temperatures. i know truckee's not in the neighborhood but 23 sounds cold. >> cold enough for snow making. before we could get dumped on with snow as we head throughout the next seven to ten days. it's going to get active here. and i know, me like all of the other meteorologists, we're salivating what we see coming down the pike. 52 degrees in santa rosa. 60 san francisco. good morning to you san jose. i've got to tell you, it was nice over the weekend. we had those clouds move in yesterday. the same deal for today. here's our weathermaker, well defined, counterclockwise rotation, storm system organized. this being dropped in as we head late into tonight, especially in the north bay. then we'll see the impact here in the south bias of tomorrow morning. you don't need the umbrella today but watch changes as they occur as the storm system gets

overturned carrying 23,000 pounds of turkeys headed to cost costco. a driver and a passenger in that vehicle. the truck overturned, stuck inside it for a short period of time. sound likes they're okay with minor injuries but i'm double-checking. the freeway, all lanes open it's alcosta, the off-ramp closed. bullinger canyon, under a mile, use that and san ramon valley boulevard to get around the scene. otherwise, below 580, move around from the other side if you miss the bullinger canyon off-ramp. the rest of the bay, light, easy commute now. the bay bridge toll plaza, no major problem nos, no major bac. not dodging turkeys, drivers north of the peninsula will notice a change today. metering lights on highway 101 san mateo activated between 3:00 and 8:00 p.m. last week, metering lights set to solid green to alert drivers that change was coming.

agreement being billed as a major breakthrough in u.s.-china relations. president obama and the chinese president held a rare joint news conference in beijing today. together, the pair announced the landmark new deal to cut greenhouse gas emission. they also announced new military and trade agreements that will likely boost cooperation between two powers. san francisco supervisors considering equal pay proposal now. commission of women holding its own meeting today. that proposal would require most city contractors to send in yearly reports about how much their employees get paid. the reports include the workers' gender and race. the commission on the status of women will convene for a special meeting on that very issue this afternoon. dissension in the ranks at yahoo!. some investors are trying to

undermine marissa mayer and forge a deal with another struggling internet company. hampton pearson live joins us with details. good morning, hampton. >> reporter: hi, laura. yeah, as you were talking about, big yahoo! shareholders unhappy with marissa mayer are reportedly reaching out 0 aol to explore a possible merger. reports say they want aol ceo tim armstrong to run a combined company. armstrong said to be receptive but downplaying the chance of any deal will get done. yahoo! stock has tripled since meyer took over in 2012 but that's due to the value of the company's stake in the web giant, ali baba. yahoo! making a bigger push into video ad, buying ad from bright roll for $640 million. it helps brands place ads on websites, aps, internet connected tvs, giving marketers data to use to send out mortar

throughout the day today, you will notice clouds steadily increasing and we'll get our first rain showers as we head throughout tonight. also expecting rough seas to develop, similar to what we saw yesterday. watch out for sneaker waves and rip currents. if you are a mariner in a small craft, you want to take it easy. and the waves are going to get bigger as the storm system gets closer as we head throughout the day today. temperatures are going to end up in the upper 60s for today, here in the south bay, temperatures comfortable. we'll see rainfall arrive later on this evening in the north bay and then once we're into it, thursday's a washout day, friday, saturday, sunday, you'll get a break but the jet stream doesn't go anywhere and that means when this next storm system develops, it is going to hit the bay area and it looks like the core is going to cross over the north bay and that's why we're expecting heavy totals there. let me take you through the futurecast and give you the time line for the changes. stop the clock for you at midnight thursday.

voting. now alabama's republican party accuseded of invoking that law to unfairly redraw its legislative maps. the gop regained political control in that state in 2010, the same year it roll out its new electoral maps. 4:51. after an extended recess, congress returns to washington for the first time since the midterm election. lawmakers will try to tie up loose ends before the new congress is sworn in. highest on their agenda, a temporary spending bill and president obama's funding request to fight isis. also on the agenda, how the government is handling the ebola crisis. they'll hear testimony from experts include the director of the cdc. this is the first hearing in the senate since the first u.s. case of ebola was diagnosed in dallas. a city on the east coast could be the first in the country to ban cigarettes and chewing tobacco. officials in westminster, massachusetts will hear from the public about a proposal making

during a surprise concert in san francisco last night, he invited everybody that followed him on twitter to come check it out. brooks opened his twitter account yesterday. he already has more than 62,000 follower. >> wow just like that. that's a good crowd. >> you are rewarded if you followed him early on. >> mike, were you in that crowd? >> i was not but clicked follow on his account. 483, including me, there you go. even lower places now, including me. looking here towards the tri-valley, where we have what we wish we had more friends to help clear this roadway. video that we have from the overturned big rig in the center of the screen. carrying we're told, there's a chp, between 25,000 and 35,000 pounds of turkeys, not live. truck is over on its side. a driver and passenger. i'm told they have minor injuries. so that's the better news out of this. a 30 to 40-gallon fuel spill.
