a new complaint about the bay bridge repairs. some say the repairs are driving them crazy. it was a crime that shocked the wrestling world and it had bay area connections. a powerful new film following the life and career of gold medal winning brothers. this is today in the bay.

good morning. it's 7:00. thank you for joining us. i'm vickie nguyen. let's get a check of your forecast with anthony slaughter. >> good morning the you. it's sunday. just a few minutes ago i had a sneeze attack. they come in ways. >> we are waking up to clouds out there. we'll see a filtered sunshine look through the sky. tomorrow and tuesday we'll be looking at clouds increasing and rain is set to return to the bay area as we head towards wednesday. that will be good enough to wash off that pollen in the air now. now you can see we're in the 40s and 50s. over the most part 60 in france wi san francisco with the steady ocean breeze. near 70 in the south bay and the tri-valley. we have rain in forecast.

we'll talk about that in a bit. >> looks nice out there. thank you. construction work on the bay bridge has been shifted to overnight to prevent traffic back ups. now that is creating a whole host of noise issues for people who live near the bridge. the new plan means crews will work overnight. this is plan b because daytime work was causing such a traffic jam when crews installed metal plates over all that joint work. it was causing drivers to slow down. it's causing new problems for neighbors. one resident we spoke with is nine months pregnant. she's due to deliver very soon. she heard jackhammers at 10:30 at night and feel the bridge work in her apartment. >> it sounds like pounding but on top of the noise it's really disturbing is there's a vibration as well. not only do you hear the noise

and it's not something you can block out through a noise machine or ear plug, which we have tried, it's something you can feel. >> you're buying a lot more convenience for the hundreds of thousands of motorists that are traveling through the corridor. >> residents will get a break tonight because crews are not scheduled to work sunday. the work is scheduled to go on another ten weeks and that does not include rain delays. construction on the bay bridge will be tricky work since it carries about 240,000 vehicles a day on its two decks. the lanes are roomy. the bay bridge is the world's widest bridge, 66 feet wide. all of that comes with a hefty price tag. it costs more than $6.5 billion to construct. new this morning, disturbing video from isis. the islamic militant group claims its beheaded a u.s. aid

worker. we've not verified the video and will not use any images of for report. the newly released video features a mask militant with a british accent standing over a severed head. his family released a statement this morning saying we're aware of the news reports being circulated about our treasured son and waiting on word from the government. we'll have no other statement at this time and ask that you please respect our privacy. he may be in the worse condition compared to the other ebola patients recently treated in the u.s. we're getting a glimpse of the tenth patient being transported by stretcher in plastic bubble.

he arrived yesterday. according to his son he's been focused on helping others. >> he's really a hero to me. when i was little he bring me up to the kind of man i was today. and make sure if i don't do the medical work i do something that will really make people happy or make people feel like they have something they can look up to. >> he's the third ebola victim to be treated in nebraska. the refinery amount was revealed this weekend but the violations happened back in 2011. they included tank leak violations and admission of several chemicals that caused neighbors to complain. money will go toward future refinery inspections and enforcement. san francisco police are searching for a murder suspect

this morning. police say a man was found just before 8:30 last night near the intersection of larkin. he suffered multiple stab wounds. the victim's identify has not been leased. investigators have no suspect description. they're asking anyone with information to come forward. police are also investigating a deadly shooting in the city's excelsiar district. it happened before 3:00 a.m. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. they don't have a female description. 43 college students from mexico are missing and feared dead. hundreds of people in san francisco are calling for answers. the group demonstrated in the mission district on saturday an demanded the truth. the students disappeared from mexico september 26th after a violent clash with police during a political protest.

>> students have a right to express themselves. the schools are a foundation for radical education. when these students were expressing themselves you saw the voice will be crushed. >> the mexican government claims the students were killed by gangs and their bodies were burned. health care.gov is also open for enrollment. last year's disasterous roll out took months to correct. this year the obama administration is promising health coverage without all the problems. people we talked with say they have seen improvements. >> they had covered california for a year they understand what the process is, what's covered, what's not. i think that makes a huge difference. >> open enrollment ends february 15th. keep in mind by then republican

freemont. clear, breezy. a little beautiful out there. anthony slaughter will be by in a moment to tell you the temperature. you can get your melted butter ready bauecause the firs haul of crab season has arrived. it was a great first day. bay area crabbers started early friday morning dropping thousands of traps into deep water. yesterday was the first time they could pull up their trap. crabbers will get $3 a pound. expect to pay two to three times that amount once the crab hits our local grocery store. niner nation getting good news against the giants. the outside linebacker just finished his nine-game suspension for violating the nfl's personal conduct policy. last year he was arrested several times including one arrest for dui. he spent a month in rehab and missed five games.

he's been on the field practicing in the last few days. what do you hope to achieve? >> paid a big price to be the best as we find out in new movie fox catcher. the film is about two brothers and their tragic true story. the movie is already getting oscar buzz. we have more on this real life drama. >> reporter: the new movie fox catcher retaells the story of dave and mark schultz. after graduating the two became assistant coaches at stanford and won gold medals in the 1984 olympics. dave trained as the fox catcher estate owned by john dupont played in film by actor steve carrell. in 1996 dupont gunned down dave,

nice weather. it's going to be nice today. you can see right now as we take a look outside of france bay no fog this morning but we do have clouds out there. a nice amount of cloud cover like what we saw yesterday. it's more of a filtered sunshine. high and mid level clouds and low clouds this morning. they will burn off. the thing about is when you get the clouds in the bay area it looks like a milky sky. you can see the steady stream of clouds moving in. the cool northwesterly flow will be bringing in some cooler weather from the north and west from the gulf of alaska through the day. it's not going to be overly warm with the clouds in place. 49 in the south bay right now. cool in north bay as well. 42 there. as we head through the day the steady stream of clouds will be with us. temperatures only to topping out in the mid to upper 60s. it's not going to be a full blue

sky but it will still be nice out there. the filtered sunshine will be with us through the day. you can see the future cast keeps it mostly through the coast about noon. the clouds really start to enundate the bay area as the next storm system starts to take shape. inundate. it will open up wide this week. we're talking about the system to move into the bay area by wednesday. looks like our pattern is beginning to shift. we definitely need that because the rain, we need that as well. the sun will be with us today in the south bay. a good mix of sun and clouds. 64 expected for your high. north bay, east bay and tri-valley expecting a good miss of sun and clouds. temperatures very similar to what we saw yesterday. 68 in the tri-valley.

how do you put together 24 squares and come out with one big heart. it comes to honor her mother. her passion is giving comfort to others battling cancer. garvin thompson is here with bay area proud. >> she was an award winning high school math teacher who loved geometry. she's mover moved onto a differ mission. >> at 59 years old stage four is rather scary. >> she's had a lot of practice telling her mother's story. practice in this case doesn't make perfect. >> i try not to cry because it's very hard. >> nicole grew up in northeast pennsylvania. her mom, a single mother raising two kids working two jobs.

family's meager lifestyle, a source of embarrassment at the time for nicole. >> very. very embarrassing. i wouldn't let anybody know. i would stay home a lot. >> with age and perspective embarrassment was transformed into admiration for a woman who had given everything for her kids. >> she was the one that care and always listened. >> listening was all she could go when a doctor gave mary ann some bad news. >> a doctor puts it up on the screen. it was from her head to her toes and it looked like her body was on fire. >> mary ann died in november 2012. nicole now a mom herself fell into a depression. it was her husband who suggested taking a class to take her mind somewhere else. nicole looked at an adult education catalog. >> when i saw that crochet class, i knew that was my connection back to my mom. i just finished the border on

this. >> crochet because it was something her mom used to do. crochet because it was something she thought she could do to help others going through what her mother just did. nicole, never took that class. instead sho instead she opened a laptop and began teaching first. five hours later she had a single square and a big idea. >> how about we get the world involved? >> project chemo crochet. >> i'm comforting people in the world who needs something during this hard time. >> her husband created a website asking them to crochet squares. within two weeks the first scares started coming in and in less than two years nicole and her team have stitched and shipped close to 700 blankets all over the country with no

wildlife into our backyard as they search for food, shelter and water. something staff and volunteers know all too well. they have a 24/7 living with wildlife hot line. the only one in the bay area. people can call it if there's an injured or orphaned animal or larger animal that's coming too close. this year calls are up 20%. >> these are people that are having raccoons digging up their yard because they like the grubs that live under a well watered yard. they are seeing deer in their yard. they have a birdbath or apples that have fallen from the tree. they have a food source or a water source. >> reporter: that includes pests like mice and their rattlesnake predato predators. it also includes birds like this owl hit by a car now being treated for a broken wing. >> an animal that has a territory this big is having to go this far to get out an find

water especially but also food. >> medical staff have seen a spike in parasites in their patients. something they don't usually see. >> if the animals are don't they don't have as much energy. they want to conserve what they do have then the parasites can find them a lot easier. >> at the wildlife center of silicon valley they are treating 20% more animals than last year. this duck crashed into a shall slow puddle. it would normally aim for a pond. >> it's a factor because they're not finding the water sources that are out there normally. >> wildlife advocates say if you don't want nuisance wildlife make sure you're not providing them food and water. it may help the animals and help us get through this drought together. >> as it gets drier it's going to get more and more likely that all the wildlife will gravitate where there's water and that's

our backyard. it's no secret lakes throughout california are sinking lower and lower because of the drought. the water stands at 649 feet this morning. the last time it was this low was back in 1977 when the lake hit 645 feet. experts expect the level to go down half a foot a day as officials continue to release water down the river. that means it's on track to break the low record around thanksgiving unless the area gets a lot of rain. business is also at a low. >> we don't have the trarveg through that we used to have. our officer is one of the main roads up here and a lot of people once they see the lake and the beauty of it when it's full will stop. >> to give you some perspective it's considered full at 900 feet. in another 45 feet lit be too low to generate power for the

new time now 7:47 on the nose. let's give you a live look outside at san jose. some lingering clouds all day today. that's a good chance to wear some layers out there. that's san francisco. really pretty pink skies there. san francisco's hunter's point shipyard has been many things but the one thing it's never been is real neighborhood. today in the bay joe rosata junior shows us how that's about to change. >> reporter: it's a tiny neighborhood liquor store. >> i'm too blessed to stress. >> reporter: on any given day. >> i got a lot of irish buddies. >> reporter: owner robert pinkard or big bob as he's

known. >> i have a grandfather named bob, uncle named bob. >> reporter: hold court behind the cornest high occupied for the last 40 years. outside men fill their days playing dominos and in the summer pinkard fires up the barbecue. he remembers the days when just up the street the hunters point naval shipyard was booming. >> around 4:00, around 4,000 people come out of there every day. >> reporter: i had cash register here and over here. when the navy moved out in the '70s, things got quite. he only needed one cash register and yet he survived. >> god gives you what the need and the devil gives you what you want. i'm okay. >> reporter: now at the end of that street the shipyard is bringing back to life. construction crews are building 247 now market rate homes on a shipyard hill top, the first that are set to open this winter. >> within the next three months

you'll see people with families living here. >> reporter: president of developer has imagined this very scene for over a decade. >> i think this really, truly represents the beginning of the transformation of the san francisco shipyard. >> this is one of the bedrooms. it has a view of the bay. >> reporter: as the navy continues to clean toxic soil on other areas of the shipyard, work has begun on 63 affordable apartments. >> they will be truly affordable to families who are earning about $50,000 or less. >> reporter: the work is part of a vast plan to reimagine the southeast end of san francisco. it will be filled with homes, parks and commercial space. >> it will be the next full neighborhood in san francisco. almost a city within a city. >> reporter: some filled with artists will be reuse ereused, replaced. >> i look out here and i see

this look in san jose. you can see the clouds i've been telling you about all morning long. you can see from our maps even the clouds streaming in not only from the south bay but all the way from the north bay down through the south bay even the east bay as well. the clouds will be with us all day long as the cool air starts to filter in. jackets definitely a good idea. maybe some hoodies as well. notice the temps in the 60s. you'll be at 68. the only location that will get into the 70s tothd widay will b north bay. the tri-valley will see a steady stream of clouds. temperatures near 68 by this afternoon. it'sgoing to be filtered sunshine most of the day. just the high and mid level clouds will cast the ring around the sun. it will give it that milky look across the sky. even by this evening the clouds really start to turn across, move across the bay area turning our skies cloudy.

this thing still getting its act together. it will be pretty strong as it makes it way into the bay area and bring us rain as we head towards wednesday. for today just filtered sunshine. 65 for the peninsula. 64 in san francisco. in the north bay, east bay and tri-vall tri-valley. mid to upper 60s everywhere. this is the time of year when you start to see the colors across the bay area, the peek fall foliage. this is where we're starting to see the best colors across the highway 17 summit. you'll want to see the colors, that's the place to go. the future cast shows the storm system moving closer and closer to the bay area. this is tuesday morning. you'll notice just off the coastline it will be moving towards us. by tuesday night it clouds up. we'll see the first rain arrive. wednesday morning everyone expecting to see potential for thunderstorms.

not only will it be heavy rain but the potential for even some flash flooding and very strong winds. now, if the system movers out of here quickly on wednesday but that's going to make way for our next storm system to arrive by thursday night into friday. this thing looks like it's going to be stay to our north at least right now but the computer model stimback and forth to where this will move through. looks like we still have chance for friday and another one comes in on the heels by saturday. overall we have three chances of rain this upcoming weekend. monday, tuesday the clouds start to increase. wednesday, thursday and friday that's the time to watch for showers. on wednesday i think we'll see a good amount of shower basactivi. this one could give us another shot of thunderstorms as we head towards next weekend. overall we'll be here to track it all week long. it will be an active week. we can stay up to date with tlatetlat e latest happenings with our weather. you can download that app as
