crew fans out across safe ways in the bay areas to ask people to donate food items. talk about the needs this year. how big is it for holiday food donations. >> it's a big need where holidays get together to celebrate and enjoy good food. for people struggling to put food on the table, the holidays are especially difficult for them. we want to do what we can to help that need and not worry about not having enough. >> for a $10 grocery bag you can feed a family and have them enjoy the holidays. >> we are able to turn around money from them. we can turn it around and get

two nutritious meals out of it. >> you have benefitted from the services. tell us your situation and how you have benefitted. >> definitely have been benefitting from this program. five years ago goodwill started this for their employees, which i'm one of them. having six kids, sometimes it's hard to put food on the table. so having this opportunity coming along, we took advantage of it. >> there are people who might say all the people getting food baskets and services, why don't they just work? you're working. it's especially to make ends meet. >> correct. >> talk about that. >> once a month, second harvest. comes on. we put our time employees to volunteer for people, for the community to come and get food from them. >> mm-hmm. his case is not unique.

there are so many people in the valley. >> that's correct. a lot of familieses are struggling to make ends meet. it's very common. we try to encourage people not to shy away from it. the help is there for them. actually this year, we are trying or we need to raise $50 million so we can help the families out there working. they don't have enough to put on the table. >> that's correct. >> we are going to be out there across the bay area at safe way locations. this is a big push. but the holiday food drive is beyond this one dayment it goeses on for a while. >> yesment for us it starts in november. we push it for the holidays, november, december, january.

kids. >> with me now from the hispanic chamber of commerce partnering with the health trust to make it happen. >> yes, sir. >> welcome to the show. what kind of impact have you seen is this the program is recent. it just started. what are they telling you about the customers? >>it's beautiful. creating a network and inspiring one another. the launch we had in september motivated the owner to transform her business to reduce the amount of beer and alcohol she sells to put more healthy productses in there. this past week we have put a new place similar to this one. >> if you're losing the beer content in your store, you are losing some of the revenue as well. she's willing to take the chance. >> we have been making it up with the items we have been selling. people come in and not only buy, say, a water withment but they get produce and so forth. it's a sound business decisionment. >> great. i was talking to a lady from

emmitt market who said she had no idea. her apples ran out in a couple of days when she put them out there. the kids are more obese than in the past. that's the bottom line. to be healthier. >> giving opportunities to the local communities to have that opportunity, make the decision. >> you're working off a grant. tell us who qualifieses, how they can partnership p tate and what the benefitses are. >> it's in san josement we'll do another 20 stores. certain stores we have been doing additional work. a bakery that sells fresh juices, for example. the customers love it. they might get a bun and she made one that's whole whaet. introducing new items and those who want to be more engaged, we help them as well. >> you have the good to go logo. >> right. >> tell us more. if you see it, buy it.

>> at the end of the day this is a campaign we are running off. the good to go. you will see throughout the store located and highlighting certain items that are what we deem unhealthy for you. >> addressing the issue of the saturation of liquor stores and corner stores in the communities. how big of a no-brainer was that concept? >> the fact is they are pushing accessible foods through low income communities. and the chamber of commerce working with this development center is what we do. we know business. we are helping the marketing campaign. >> what does it tell you about people in the community who then they go into a corner store or liquor store because a program is working they do pick up an apple, orange, juice or vegetables at the corner store, liquor store. >> they didn't expect to see it,

for example. we were doing all the modifications the last couple of weeks. customers will joke around, did you hit the lotto. it's looking better, nicer. they have the opportunity to buy those items and they are happy. >> you will remodel to a certain extent the facade of the stores or so the way it looks on the inside. >> paint does a great deal of change. we get other people to clean the floors to make it brighter. that's part of the change. marketing at the end of the day. >> at the end of the day, what would you like to see two, three years down the line. what kind of success do you want to see from the program? >> it's not only the folks behind it but the owners of the stores working together to support one another. now you are seeing one helping, sharing resources and motivation. it's one store owner. they have no employees at times. it gets lonely. >> well, there are a couple of web addresses. one to the health trust of

posted 108 events just for the event. there is so much beauty in the bay area of latino culture . we wanted to represent the beauty of latino culture. >> is it geared now more toward a certain genre? >> it's for all lovers of the latino culture. it's been a major shift in the latino population. 65% of latinos are now born in the united states which means they are english. that's their primary language. which is why our oh website is in english. >> in talking to the kids we asked why don't you play like your parentses? >> we are playing to their kids, the next generation. you're on the cutting edge there. when you talk about the next generation of oh latino

consumers. >> talking about latino consumers, not only do they prefer. in social media. latinos right now is the perfect time to produce the latino website. latin life.com to the bay area community. >> it was amazing. art exhibits, concerts, nightclubs. food openings. we love representing the theory. >> you get your representation from where? can people send it in? >> we have @event. we get a third of eventses from people just uploading whatever. so we are thankful for the bay area community. >> you have to have a huge mix.

even the latino community in the bay area is so mixed. you have the mission district. so p many other latino cultures. just depends on which information is given to you. >> we tend to focus on the biggest group which is mexican-americans. you will see salsa and latino pop and m ark riacchi. >> what does it tell you about it in the bay area. that a site like this is needed. what does it say about us? >> we're growing. english now. we are very in tune to the lat foe culture. because of that, we love representing the beauty of latino culture. we have done focus groups and people love the latino culture.

whether it's history, food or music. we just want to represent that to the bay area. >> you had a big launch. why do you think this is a big deal? >> we did the launch party in san jose at the glass house. we focus a lot in the south bay because 40% of latinoss are in the south bay. so you will see a lot of events. it's not only south bay. that tells you the growing power of latinoss in this country. it's just the numbers. as you know we are the biggest group in california. >> what do you want those who log on, what do you want them, when they log off, to get from the website to log off with, if you will. >> i want them to be entertained. we have a big empowerment part. we want to empower the different slices of your life of a latino community. finance, career, health, relationships, food. so that's a big reason why we are doing this.
