many bay area transplants here in the city and not just in the city, but i mean people come, you know, from jersey, people come from long island, people come from -- it's really is amazing just to be around people from the same area. >> we had no idea that there were that many bay area fans. our first 49er game, we had about 60 people and we were stunned. >> i have never seen such a passionate fan base being so powerful so far away from their home and you really get to see it here at affinities. >> people look up and they see the giant niner logo and they refuse to walk in the bar simply because of our affiliation with the niners. but i get a kick out of it. i'm sure one day when there's three people here on a saturday night, i might see caution in it. we chose our loyalty and we stick with it.

we do raffles, giveaways, game day giveaways and basically people get raffle tickets when they get pitch chers of beer and things like that. we'll often raffle off helmets and jerseys. we probably raffle off $100,000 worth of memorabilia. when it arrives, it's like christmas morning, i have all these 49ers helmets, jerseys, all guys i grew up worshipping and i give them away.

shortage is confusing passengers at sfo. >> an act of pure evil, the brutal killing of an american hostage by the terror group isis. this is my church, my parents were married here, i was married here, my children were married here too. it's part of me. >> members of the congregation heart broken as a fire tears through the historic church. good evening, everybody. >> thank you for joining us, we're on right now because of sunday night football. a developing story in the south bay, flames and smoke leaping from a nearly century old church in san jose, firefighters and church members rushed to that scene today. marianne, you talked to community members, they are so upset about the loss of this church, so many memories there.

>> reporter: they're absolutely devastated, tonight firefighters have been dumping water on top of the church building to put out any possible hot spots, there's also concern the building may collapse. there was supposed to be a mass here tonight at 6:00, that's when some parishioners showed up only to see this, that their church had burned. >> reporter: parishioners and neighbors stood by and watched in disbelief. for 93-year-old ann fitzgerald, it was like watching a lifetime of members destroyed. >> my parents were married in that church in 1919. i came back home, this is my church. this is my church. and i'm devastated. >> at one point people watching the inferno gasped, the four-alarm fire started around 2:00 this afternoon, fortunately

the 1:00 mass had eshd ended and there was no one inside. >> we noticed fire on the second floor attic space, appearing where the organ is which might have been where the heat came from. we're still researching that, but the fire moved very rapidly in the second story of this large church. >> reporter: because the church was built in 1919 there was no fire sprinkler, and the heavy timber and dry wood made the fire burn even faster. one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. tonight the fire has tested their faith. i spoke with a pastor tonight and he said he's hoping the parishioners will work together to rebuild the church. in the meantime, both the rectory and the parish hall are still intact so there is a possibility that future masses

may be held there. >> you can see just how devastated those parishioners are. we do have more on the holy cross church fire, you can find that on our website, it's the top story on our page, that's where you can see the photo gallery of today's fight to put outa fire. a surprise visit from drug enforcement agents today at nfl games. agents inspected the medical staff of several teams. physicians and trainers were checked out at met life stadium after the team played the new york giants. no arrests were made. a lawsuit filed in may on behalf -- in order to keep players in the game. dea agents are expected to interview more team doctors. a statement on today's inspection saying medical staff complied and the team departed

the stadium as scheduled. it's an unexpected hassle for bay area travellers, there's a shuttle shortage at sfo that is leaving passengers struggling to get around. >> reporter: passengers on supershuttleals say they heard limited services, later on they heard no service at all. they heard the reasons and despite the issues going on out here, you don't see amount of people waiting around, as the supershuttles stop at sfo, some passengers with respect sure what service they would get. >> i came here and they told me they might not be able to fulfill that. so i should wait, but i have no idea what's going on. >> reporter: for him a flight from new york ended with success. we saw at least four shuttles leaving in a short amount of

time. but later, sally waited and she was told that the systems were down. >> she said she's getting a refund and considered a cab. a company rep told nbc bay area they were looking at filling in gaps with additionalal services. another told nbc 5 that a future stet of drivers didn't show up. >> i'm a driver. >> reporter: is this your regular driving day? >> yes. >> reporter: he said he came in to help accommodate passengers. >> i was up all day, so i came to help out. >> reporter: a driver for another company who didn't want to go on camera said the issue was on speed. >> now i want to take another

option. >> reporter: late tonight supershuttle told us they didn't have an official statement but it looks like most of the drivers would be returning by morning after a response they got to a bid that wempbl out this evening. reporting live at sfo, nbc bay area news. another -- aid worker peter kassig's death took place just a year after he was taken prisoner. there were expressionings of con dpem nation from his family, there is hope that their 26-year-old son will be remembered for the good he was trying to do. richard engel has more. >> reporter: peter kassig made it his life's work to help others but paid for that selflessness with his own life. today president obama called his murder an act of pure evil by a terrorist group that the world rightly associates with inhumanity. the 26-year-old former army ranger from indiana who served

police used dna evidence from a gun left in one of the motel rooms to link costello to the crimes. investigators have a mystery on their hands after finding a woman's body in the middle of a remote napa county roadway. authorities found the mid to late 50-year-old victim on state highway 29 just before 5:00 this mornin morning. she was suffering from multiple injuries and she died on the way to the hospital. all lanes of highway 29 were closed until 5:30 this afternoon. so far smooth sailing for the first weekend of open enrollment for the obama care act. this is through the federal website, it serves 37 states. of course this is a big difference from last year when only a handful of customers managed to get enrolled on the first day. a total of 500,000 people have
