to impact northern california. we're still dry but that green is lurking just offshore. we have this really potent system. when it comes through, we could actually get some thunderstorms as well. a lot to go over this is not our own bout of rain. this is a big traveling weekend. here's mike on a thursday -- friday eve. >> we'll focus on that on friday. coming through dublin, on the right side harder to see the roadway as there's fog coming out of altamont pass.

an earlier crash on the uperp east shore has cleared. a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. there's moisture here as well. i want to show you the north bay as well. for now back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. new details if you're just waking up right now, you're learning about a shooting inside the florida state university inside the library shortly before 1:00 this morning. three people suffered gunshot wounds. officers confronted the gunman, ordering him to drop his weapon. instead he fired at them and they returned fire, killing him. >> we did not know. >> students understandably shaken up.

classes have been cancelled today but the campus will still remain open. the gunman has not been identified. >> right now you see berkeley students occupying a campus building angry over a tentative tuition hike. stephanie chuang outside wheeler hall. >> reporter: we're inside wheeler hall. it's pretty quiet. you have a lot of students sleeping here, the estimate is about 100 students here. they are protesting a tuition hike apparently approved by the regents yesterday. justin, you were arrested yesterday for inciting a riot but you were able to get out at

deliberation, we've got four demands. we want no on the fee hikes, we want increased representation on the board of regents, we would like to drop the charges and we're going to want to increase transparency in the budget as per 8094. >> we understand there have been some plefolice officers walking around but no confrontations, everything has been peaceful thus far. live at u.c. berkeley, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> students at san jose state are planning another protest today, this hoping to convince the president of that college to apologize for racial comments of a board member. the board member allegedly made

racial comments about latinas. the board member has resigned. >> the principal met with concerned student and parents last night after receiving a threat against the school. today police patrols and counselors will be on hand to talk to students about the threat. >> it seems concord residents slept through a 2.7 earthquake that struck just before 4:00 this morning, this coming on the heels of two quakes that hit just south of the bay area. the first struck around 10:30 knorr san juan bautista and minutes later a quick hit in the same area. so far no serious injuries or damage has been reported.

>> the state ults commission will consider further fining pg&e in response to an e-mail scandal. they want them to hand over 65,000 e-mails. pg&e is accused of illegally trying to convince state regulators to assign a specific judge to one of pg&e's cases. san bruno wants more oversight after the 2010 gas line explosion that killed eight people. >> today president obama says he's going to sidestep the congress and order his own action on immigration. this picture shows the president in the oval office working on tonight's speech. the president's executive orders have not been announced yet but they're expected to protect as many as 5 million undocumented

for the holidays, we're going to have some green hillsides for all of your neighbors. take a look at some of these very impressive totals. just from the first storm system that came through yesterday, the big whopper, offer 2 inches, over 2.5 inches in mount tam. that's a really good number. and we had some really good stories to tell from san francisco and half moon bay as well, just under a half of an inch of rain in half moon bay from the first and series of storms expected to impact the bay area. here's our weather maker. this morning it's coming in quickly and will move through the bay area very quickly. maybe down here in the south bay we'll get another half of an inch to inch ofrainfall just

problem. showing on the right the orange blobs around the east shore freeway and highway 24 toward okayland, you have lower visibility there. a ground fog in parts of oakland hills as well as along the altamont pass. keep in mind tonight the sharks are playing the panthers. those are two animals well known at being adept on the ice. >> v.t.a. meeting today to consider adding controversial bus-on lanes on a busy peninsula road. it would start on el camino real and go all the way to the university. some legal leaders worry it will make congestion worse. >> yes, probably. an interesting assumption there. we'll follow up on that. 4:41 right now. how waking up for school can be

the markets would force them to raise rates sooner rather than later. we get data on unemployment, inflation and home sales. wells fargo plans to ease terms on some student loans. the bank will lower interest rates for eligible borrowers this month and extend payments starting in february. wells expects the move to save borrowers thousands of dollars in interest payments. private lenders such as banks on hold about 8% of the $1.2 trillion market. but they've caught for flak from the government for being unwilling to work with struggling borrowers. >> apple bought beats for 3

billion in may. reports say beats, which is also a subscription service, will be included in ios software updates as earlies that march. back to you. >> okay. poor buffalo. turns out that that city is still digging out of the first round of what's now a mass of one-two punch of snowfall. as if sex feet were not enough, forecasters are predicting another three feet for today for western new york. the governor calling it an extraordinary situation. rescue crews are still trying to reach drivers trapped from the first round of snow. so far seven deaths reported due to the storm. >> i'm wondering, christina, is it going to be cold enough in the sierra to see some snow? >> oh, yeah.

especially from in next system and the one on its heels. this is a good looking system. it's the one on saturday, snow, especially on the highest peaks of the sierra nevada. we have a good weather maker coming through our neck of the woods today, which means more rain, expecting that by about 10:00. after lunchtime, we're going to get some pretty good rain, except for san jose. here's how it all works, as you're gotting yourself ready, packing your lunch, keep in mind it is cool out there and it is going to be cool throughout the day. temperatures on ranging in the low 60s. just about everywhere with the upper 60 second in the north bay. we'll get a brief break from the rain as we head into your friday and then it comes back heavily

tests. the honda odyssey was the one minivan to earn the group's highest safety rating. >> here's information to keep in mind. a new study finding teens who get up earlier for school are more likely to get into a car crash. researchers looked at two neighboring school in virginia. crash rates were 29% higher in the county where school started earlier. there was no such difference in adult crash rates. this study blspublished in this month's journal clinical sleep medicine. they recommend children get nine hours of sleep. >> oh, that would be nice.

them in the bay area. the rally is taking place at 10:00 this morning at the raiders headquarters in alameda. fans are hoping it will convince the team to stay put. no announcement has been made about moving the team. the owner has been unable to reach a deal with city officials for a new stadium. >> here's something for raiders fans to get excited. the team will honor former punter ray guy. he'll receive his hall of fame ring tonight. guy is the only punter to be inducted in the hall of fame. >> at least they can play their football games right now, as opposed to an upstate new york
