>> announcer: from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >> michael brown. >> peaceful protests turn violent overnight, thousands from cities across the country showing their support for michael brown. >> good morning, 4:30, wednesday, i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. more on that story in a moment. a lot of you heading out of town today, the big thanksgiving holiday weekend, a quick check of the forecast with christina. >> good morning, everybody at home. we are finally here. i can tell you it's going to be nice for holiday travels, but

getting back home could be problematic. three powerful storm systems on the way to the bay area between now and monday. a lot to go over. overall, getting out of town today, looking really good. as far as weather goes. let's go to mike inouye. >> it's going to be different all over the place today, though. hopefully getting to work will be easier because like yesterday we expect a light volume of traffic. today and the rest of the week, bay bridge has overnight road work going on. down a couple of lanes as you travel westbound across that span. we don't see flashing lights. light volume of traffic, a couple of cash lanes opening up on the bottom of the screen, lanes 3 and 4 still closed. towards the maps, no problems for the maze or the approach. construction on san francisco side may slow you. south bay and tri-valley, moving

at the limit. we'll track changes if they occur early morn, but they will occur eventually. breaking news out of san francisco. right now, police investigating a shooting that injured six people in the city. four victims taken to the hospital in ambulances, two others showing up at hops later on. two of those victims are seriously injured. investigators say their lives now are in danger. all of this happened before 1:00 this morning near mission and 13th street. at this point, law enforcement says it happened at a music hall but not sure what kind of event was going on or what led up to the shooting. developing news in oakland, overnight, police with chp officers from nine bay area counties joined forces to tame hundreds of protesters causing problems. dozens of small fires lit up dark, city streets. most dumpsters, couches.

>> not only fires but looting and vandalism going on. the chopper caught several people breaking the window of this t-mobile store in oakland. looters run in and grab items before taking off. the kelly moore paint shop was broken into too. several left the building with gallons of paint. we saw them to dump the paint and write vulgar messages on nearby buildings. you can see several people kicking in windows, shattering glass, running inside. no word if anything was taken there. before all of this, a crowd managed to shut down traffic on the bay area freeway for a second night in a row. 580 near 980 at oakland 9:00. taunting drivers, making it a serious situation for a lot of people. people were able to get them off the roadway and get traffic back

to normal. >> quite hectic in oakland last night. a team monitoring the situation here and across the country. "today in the bay's" new development out of ferguson, missouri. >> let's start with bob redell in oakland with city workers who spent the second night in a row cleaning up. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. last night the night before i should say, mostly broadway. last night a lot of businesses on telegraph. we're al telegraph and 46nd in frents of the paint store you were talking about. take a look inside and get an idea of what the people did, they took paint out, spilled it on the floor, broke windows, and took that paint and splashed it all over the intersection. we drove up and down telegraph, you can see they took that paint and put it on other businesses and whatnot. this is what the scene looked like from chopper, people coming in and out of the store, this

was in the evening as they made their way down telegraph. and a bit earlier, before 10:00, we saw looting and vandalism elsewhere. that t-mobile store on telegraph and 49th had its windows broken, chopper catching people running inside the store and running out. i counted a dozen businesses that had windows broken, that's not an official count, it's what i observed this morning. many came in peace and called for justice for michael brown shot and killed bay ferguson police officer. >> darren wilson should have been indicted, should have. a trial at least. >> they want to tell you elections is where your power is, but your vote doesn't matter. but here your voice matters. this is what democracy looks

like. >> reporter: the night before, roughly 43 people arrested by opd. there were arrests last night but the police department has yet to release those figures. live here in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. in new york city, tourists forced out of times square, while hundreds of protesters took over. they forced streets and bridges to close down as they weaved through traffic. los angeles, protesters brought the 101 to a standstill. officers moved those protesters off the road but marched through town. >> act test continued in ferguson, protesters returning to scarred streets for a second straight night. the national guard helped police contain protests while destructive. officers had to use tear gas and pepper spray, all continuing into a second night. for the latest, kris sanchez. what is there left at this point with the continued outlet of

frustration? >> you mentioned fewer, violent incidents. fewer arrests in ferguson overnight as well. 44 compared to 80 tonight of that grand jury decision. still, no less frustration in ferguson in other cities. crowds turns out in force, some turned to violence, looting, setting a police squad car on fire. met with police and national guard in full riot gear, someone threw tear gas back into a line of police officers. protesters threw another assortment of other things as well, rocks and bottles. amid the voices, some repeating what michael brown's own father urged all along, protest with violence is not the way. >> i understand why our city's angry, it's obvious, but it's not the right way to go about it. >> our nbc news crew on the

clear, golden gate bridge. east bay, an issue, reports of a crash, off of 24. car went off the edge. some folks in that car have made it safely out of the area. looking toward a slowdown, eastbound 24. now no crashes involved there. no construction, but it has been sticking around for ten minutes. we'll track the slowing off the warren freeway. the cause, eastbound 850, incident, a crash, car reportedly hit a garbage can in the middle of the freeway. bad news it may be, the car may be in the slow lane. we'll track that as welcoming through oakland. rest of the bay, smooth as far as traffic flow. no incidents for the south bay or peninsula. 580, commute direction in the tri-valley, stream of light, light volume, but a lot of company on the roadway heading to work today.

systems. this looks like the kind of rain that we need to make a mark here in the drought. i can give you an idea of what we're expecting. this is computer generated. i do believe we'll get higher totals in places like ukiah. in the south bay, we are looking towards over two inches of rain potentially with an atmospheric river tap. this could hamper holiday travel for people trying to get back into the bay area. some of the rain is going to make it into southern california, where they really need. i'm going to show you the timing and what we're expecting from the three systems throughout the next few days. it's going to get active here. but looking pretty good throughout thanksgiving. changes come in thanksgiving night. and, yeah, a football game right here on nbc bay area. we'll have the forecast coming up as well. back to you. >> thanks. new york city, excitement in
