christina loren, everyone wants to know what our thanksgiving travel day forecast is going to look like. for you it might involve a graphic with pies in the oven. >> indeed. another one with a full feast on the table. i'm a hungry girl. my graphics are representative of that. getting to that thanksgiving feast could be probleming for you though the good news, this morning only flight delays out of philadelphia. the system's on its way out. that's the good news. rain on the way to the bay area as we head throughout the end of the week into the weekend. i can tell you now, this could hamper your plans getting back home. the good news is, if you're going to be traveling, usually that means someone else is cooking for you. lucky you. more on this and your forecast showing you how much rain expecting in moments. right now back to you. rest of the top stories. >> the travel, somebody else cooking makes it worth it for many.

weather may put holiday crimp in travel itineraries. >> the timing not immaculate. stephanie chuang live from san francisco's international airport to explain how a major storm could be affecting travelers this morning. >> reporter: good morning to you both. it seems it may be impacting some flights. i spoke with the airport manager at sfo who says laguardia in new york city as an estimated 189 minutes of delay for any flights arriving because of the weather. philadelphia another problem area. we've been talking about all morning, an estimated delay of 103 minutes. flight on the board 8:10, supposed to be 6:15, now 6:45. for flights within in or out of the u.s., 500 delays and 300 cancellations and numbers keep climbing. most impacted areas are on the east coast. philadelphia, boston, and new york city. it's expected there will be thousands of delays as the impact of the storms build up.

some travelers say they're worried about the flight to the east coast and what will happen once they land. >> my sister's coming down from buffalo. you know there'ses lots of snow and she's going to meet us at jfk hopefully everything works out. >> it's best to change to early flight for tomorrow if you want to avoid the worst delays. major carriers waiving ticket change fees for passengers trying to avoid the storm. according to aaa, there's an estimated 46.3 million people traveling thanksgiving weekend. the highest since the '57 recession. the lowest thanksgiving gas prices in five years. more good news, oakland international airport report nothing delays and plenty of parking. still waiting to hear back from san jose international airport. we also spoke with passengers who said it was more frustrating to book flights this year. we'll tell you why coming up. stephanie chuang, "today in the

bay." >> joys and agonies of holiday travel. other airports starting to get busy across the country. in 25 minutes, live to chicago owe hear to see how things for travelers are going there. to a developing story, dozens of arrests overnight, as hundreds in oakland and ferguson, missouri, protesting still the grand jury's decision not to charge an officer for killing a teen. most of those demonstrations were peaceful, there was some looting and fires in both locations. >> in oakland, t-mobile store on telegraph and 49th street had its windows broken. our chopper caught several people running inside and running out. >> farther down on telegraph avenue, the kelly-moore paint shop broken into, several people left the building with paint. we later saw them using it to write vulgar messages on buildings and streets. >> chopper over the scene, protesters breaking into the import motor car dealership on telegraph. several people kicking in

windows, running inside. >> protesters also blocked two freeways, crowds jumping on interstates 580 and 980, taunting drivers. that was the situation in oakland. in ferguson, similar scenario. kriz sanchez, quieter than previous nights. >> quieter and fewer arrests, half as many as the first night. the voices calling for peaceful protests are getting louder, helping police i.d. troublemakers, a stark contrast to what happened on the streets of ferguson for the second night in a row as police and national guardsmen in full riot gear tried to disperse the crowd. they used tear gas and a protester threw that can of tear gas into the line of police officers. windows were smashed, stores were looted, a police car was set on fire for the second time. meantime, michael brown's parents are speaking out on the "today" show today. his father is denying

accusations that he incited protesters by appearing outside the courthouse with raw emotion on the day of the decision. he says protesters were behaving violently do not represent what the family wants for this son. >> some people have their own agenda. i won't say that i'm mad at the people that are doing what they're doing, but that's their agenda, that's not what i asked for. so it doesn't have nothing to do with it us. but, yeah, everyone that's part of protest we appreciate them, we love them for that. >> the family responded to officer darren wilson's claim that he feared for his life. michael brown sr. said no one in their right mind would rush an officer who had a gun. for his part, officer wilson said in an interrue with nbc -- abc news, he grabbed the top of my gun, as he's doing that i could feel him trying to come over my hand and inside the

trigger guard and try to shoot me with my own gun. that's when he fired for the first time the brown family will continue to fight for justice for their son. they'll do it in the court. they also encourage people to join them in support. but they want supporters to join them in peace. creative way some folks are doing that. they will make an economic statement about police brutality, activist group blackout for humanity calling for a boycott of black friday to make a statement economically, #blackoutblackfriday has reached 3 million twitter users last night. more today. >> we'll see if it takes flight. in new york city, tourists were forced out of times square while hundreds of protesters took over. they shut down streets and bridges as they weaved through traffic. in los angeles, meantime, protesters thought 101 to a standstill. officers moved protesters off the road.

direct message. i think we should buy them, he says. he's on your schedule for december 15th or 16th, we need to sell him. i have a plan. the point not to say you made a mistake, point out if your own executish is confused, maybe this is confusing. millions of americans working over the holidays, many in retail. a survey by allstate and the national journal finds a quarter will be required to clock in on one day, maybe thanksgiving, christmas, or new year's, some of them several. if you are going to shop, shop here, wallet hub did a study examining historical prices determined at jcpenney, macy and rite aid the largest number of items. bottom three, costco, amazon, big lots. but when you stop and think about it, those had the lowest prices probably to start with so sales are going to be small.

fas-trak lanes moving nicely. maps, speed sensors are slowing for 580 a bit. we had a backup by 24 but that eased off 880 overcrossing as well, it's built through berkeley for the westbound 80 east shore freeway action. no big surprises for the north bay or coming across the richmond bridge, carquinez and vin niche shah smoothly. no slowing except for antioch, great news. smooth drive castro valley y. southbounding a tad slowing. northbound, reports of a new crash in the center divide. greenville, out of the tri-valley another crash there as well but at center divide. we have no slowing for that portion of 68 through sunol, pleasanton. 237, 880, build northbound to 101680, that's it. live look at palo alto, 101 northbound, good volume of traffic north and south.

in and out of the bay area. wendy, if it's going to get crunched anywhere, o'hare is a good bet. good morning. >> good morning, sam and lawyer rap looking good here at o'hare so far. it's ironic considering the number of travelers. there's an ebb and flow going on at security lines but moving smoothly. not the case out east. a healthier economy, lower gas prices has given a boost to the travel numbers. aaa estimates 46 million people will travel by air or road between today and sunday. gas prices are down, as we well now, 84 cents since april. airline tickets up compared to the time last year. as we all know and we all are talking about, what could hinder travel, the worst is the weather. that storm making its way up the eastern seaboard now has caused hundreds of flight cancellations

>> it could be much worse but i want to give you an idea of what we are working with right now. only delays you're going to find out of washington and newark. keeping new york at this time. seeing delays out of newark. on the maps 189 minutes and that's. at this time a lot of the travellers are starting to get to the airport. they're three hours ahead of us. we could be doing worse based on sheer volume alone. this system is on its way out. so, yeah, even if you get delayed for today, we're not expecting a widespread cancellation which means you will be able to reach your destination by tomorrow. you can see here, what we are expecting, futurecast. yeah, focus in here on the northeast. by tomorrow morning, that is out of here. so that's the good news. but for us, trying to get back, we've got three storm systems on the way between friday night and monday night. so that could become problem ex-for you. we'll have more on this coming

6:39 on wednesday morning. that's, my friend christina loren would say, is a picture. from san bruno mountain sunrise over the bay area. stunning. world soccer legend pele's in the hospital recovering from urinary infection. the second time heat been admitted for medical treatment. the 74-year-old is in stable condition. conditioned by many the greatest soccer player ever had an operation to remove kidney stones earlier in the month.

did not enter a plea during a brief appearance. the 60-year-old charged with threat. ing to kill as well as possessing meth am if tmethamph. they dropped a charge of trying to hire a hitman to kill two people. police in hong kong clashed with protesters arresting two leader as the heart of a pro-democracy demonstration. this happened as police moved in to clear a major demonstration site where hundreds of tents put up two month mz the arrest of two leaders throwing into doubt the future of the movement. protesters demanding greater democracy in hong kong, especially in the upcoming elections. 6:40. hundred of flights already canceled as millions head out of town for thanksgiving. a nor'easter causing headaches during one of the busiest travel

there was looting and fires in both locations. a live update from ferguson in three michbts. also, plenty of activity back home. first, "today in the bay's" bob redell live in oakland this morning. bob, protesters, among other things, shut down two freeways overnight. good morning. >> reporter: and cause a lot of damage, especially along telegraph. here at 42nd and telegraph outside the kelly-moore paint store. one of several businesses vandalized along this several-block stretch of road. the manager, owner, not pleased, having to deal with broken windows and spilt paint. self-people who broke into the store, took gallons of paint with them and smashed the cans in intersection on other businesses. a couple blocks away, people smashed tall plate glass section of import motors, jumped up and down mercedes, the marchers set fires along telegraph, dumpsters, couches, no

structures fortunately. they made it to arbor cafe, a block away from where i'm standing now, where the owner eric marquez standing outside with a friend, standing their ground in front of his large window, the marchers did not break. they threw two gallons of white paint through the door window and the window on the other side. he's all for freedom of speech, right to march and protest as long as its peaceful. >> what was shared with me wasn't peace. it was violent. was very chaotic. and i think it was very unnecessary. >> reporter: you're looking at the paint that was splattered all over the intersection of 42nd and telegraph. we have been out here for a good two, 2 1/2 hours and did notice the city of oakland, like they did the night-made a huge effort to get this cleaned up as

possible. i'm referring to the graffitis on the walls. trying to relieliminate whateve words, not very nice word. contractors boarding up windows. people were arrested last night. the night before 43. opd has not said how many were arrested last night. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> hope things call down. jay gray live in ferguson. another night of protests with some damage but quieter than before. >> reporter: yeah, there seems to be a change in philosophy on the ground by officers and a change in the scene here. look, we have 2200 national guard troops on the ground, triple the amount first deployed here. more police officers and a more aggressive posture here, getting in more quickly when problem as rise. last night there were 44 arrests there was violence, police car

rolled and set on fire, loosing, businesses broken into. there were fires across the city. but nowhere near what it was like the first night in the hours just after the decision of the grand jury announced here. and that new police presence is helping but they also are crediting protesters, they say there are some protesters who are marching peacefully and have for more than 100 days since michael brown's death now pointing out some of those in the crowd causing problems. police think that's a huge step in the right direction. they feel confident that that's going to be help they need if they try to continue to keep control of what's go on here. they're going to continue to keep this posture as we move into the holiday here. they're concerned about the the holiday because they know people will be in the area, they know there will be students out of school so they think there's more of an opportunity for

for both of those events coming up in a moment. let's focus first on your day ahead. temperatures chilly, 40s and 50s to start. look at these numbers. these are really choice. late november 76 in the south bay, for example, 71 on the peninsula. and just a touch cooler for your thanksgiving day. 70 on the east shore. 68 degrees in beautiful san francisco. so, as you have your family coming in to town or maybe you will be preparing that feast for tomorrow, temperatures are going to be comfortable. we'll hit low 70s in the south bay. 66 on the peninsula. 71 grease in the tri-valley. for the macy's thanksgiving day parade, good news is balloons will fly without a hitch. last year concerned about gusty wind. this year we'll cut that wind in half. we wind out of the west 10 to 15. it will be cold. as you watch that parade, you'll see everybody bundled up in the northeast. for us, it's going to be really

nice. quite the contrary when you flip on. that game later in the evening, 64 at 5:00. it's a big game. seahawks versus 49ers. temperatures comfortable. wind could play a factor toward the end of the game as we have changes coming in as our first round of rain is on the way. i want to show you what we're working with, give you a scientific analysis. this is a big storm system. now first, and we'll the front come through. but it's when the core comes through, late sunday into monday that we're concerned about potential flooding. that doesn't traditionally happen. the core of low pressure almost always crosses the bay area to the north. let me show you what happens once it starts to come in. hold off on the rain for the most part for the bay area until 3:00 p.m. saturday. then we take you into saturday night. we hit that atmospheric river, the core crosses over as we head throughout monday at 10:00 a.m. so when we meet back here next week, we'll be tracking a potent system and potentially measuring

able to open that up. south bound the commute direction through san rafael and golden gate bridge. bay bridge shows you smooth drive. east bay to san francisco, the fas-trak lane is cleared, cash lane to the end of the parking lot. traffic starting to ease up since the metering lights turned on. that was the peak at 6:00 a.m. we'll talk about the build, late morning and mid morning down the east shore freeway. more folks head toward the city, not for business but pick up friends and family or pleasure as friends and family come into the area. midday traffic will bulk up. smooth drive across the san mateo bridge. mild slowing for south 880, hayward, fremont. the earlier crash has cleared, at least out of the lanes. west 237 slowing towards sunniville and mountain view. here toward the suspect shoreline, we have a slower drive. easy flow of traffic northbound, building a tad bit.
