well, good morning, everyone. i'm scott mcgrew. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> it's really nice and now everyone gets to enjoy -- temperatures are sure chilly this morning. we have a lot of rain on the way starting tonight. i'm going to take you through that forecast, show you how much we're expecting, days of rain, that we desperately need.

so it's a really great story to tell. yeah, we're going to keep that thanksgiving coming in with a great forecast. stick with me and i will time the weather out to your doorstep. now back to our top stories of the day. >> new details about a crash involving a chp officer. he was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by the car. the driver ran a red light and sent the officer into the air. an ambulance rushed the officer to the hospital. he is expected to survive. >> last i heard, he was conscious and breathing. >> chp says the driver was

cooperative and did not appear to be under the influence. >> well, happening now, it's black friday. you think you're up early, we get up early, and the bay area mall is jam packed with thousands of shoppers looking for the latest deals or at least headed out that way. >> let's see where they are. bob redell joins us at the livermore outlets. how is it looking now, bob? do you have company m. >> you can't tell in this shot right now. if you're trying to find a parking spot, you're going to have to park in a field somewhere. it's parked. we talked to the people here at the outlets who reason the stores and they say it was definitely much busier this year than last year. not necessarily a rhyme or reason but just the fact that anecdotally it's a lot busier this time around and people are coming for the discounts on top of the discounts you normally find.

this holiday season? google is keeping tabs. starting with the ipad, which is a surprise, ipad sales have been falling. my little pony and legos tops the lists this season. >> jim harbaugh is vowing the team will come back. the loss was so bad, they tweeted an apology to the fans. fans who spent their thanksgiving at levi's stadium agree. >> he's right, we deserve more. that's the worst. that is the worst. we have grown a rivalry with

them, a competition with them and we are not holding up our part of the bargain. >> the 49ers defense managed to keep the game semi-close but the offense couldn't get anything going. colin kaepernick threw two interceptions. and the loss now puts the playoffs in question for the 49ers. >> it's not acceptable. we didn't perform well. we have a much higher standard for ourselves. >> we've been the best team the last three years. we've been here before. we just got to do better. >> and they won't have to wait long for a shot at redemption. the team next week will take on the raiders before heading to seattle in a couple of weeks. >> authorities looking for three men who terrorized a couple at a popular berkeley hills lookout spot. it happened at about 2:00 a.m.

the man and woman were sitting in a parked car in a turnout when they were approached by three armed men. they wanted money and they got nothing. one of the men got in the car and forced them to drive and they were followed by the other two. >> this is the last place i would expect to be robbed. in this beauty, i mean, i wouldn't come armed. i would just come here to enjoy myself. >> the men got away with the cash from the atm and left the couple unharmed. >> a real life holiday grinch, someone stole santa from a family's front yard. the thief came not once but twice. and it was all caught on camera.

>> decorating for christmas is a big family tradition, but this year some of their holiday cheer was taken after a thief stole decorations from their front yard. >> when my daughter come home and she call us, where's our santa and the snowman? >> reporter: raymond said he raced them and checked footage from the surveillance data. and he saw a car backing into the driveway like he owned the place. >> i saw this gentleman taking my snowman and he ran off. >> reporter: the second time the thief took off with santa. >> why did they do that? >> reporter: this happened at about 3:00 p.m. wednesday afternoon. the decorations hadn't even been

the tree out the ghiradelli fans. stanford shopping center, 63 and out at union square, 63 degrees for today. so bring your jacket with you and by the end of the day, you're going to have to hold on to those shopping bags. we have some pretty gusty winds picking up. i want to stop the clock on your futurecast right at 6:00. showers still to the north of san francisco at that point. the good news is it looks like the showers are going to hold off until about 10:00 p.m. once this rain starts getting into this weekend, we're going to be dealing with it, i can tell you, all the way through wednesday of next week. so more on that coming up in

wednesday the dow closed at another record high. the nasdaq adding 29. scott, back to you. >> all right, morgan. thank you very much. i keep expecting airfares to go down. i'm watching them. it's not scientific or anything. i'm just not seeing it. hopefully sometime soon, if they're paying less for fuel. >> people certainly coming and going this holiday weekend. our check of the forecast with christina loren. >> let's check the travel. a lot of people will be headed back to the bay area. we're looking really now. no delays out of any of your major airports, all across the initial this morning. as we get into this afternoon here in the bay area, our next weather making arrives and it's

packing quite a punch. temperatures mostly in the 40s and 50s. it's a really pretty start to the day. we do have some fog out there this morning. we'll end up 65 in the south bay, 63 in the peninsula, 59 on the east shore. temperatures are going to be cool enough for a coat all day long. but we hold off on that rain until we get into this evening. i stop that clock for you right at 5:00 p.m. continuing to see that front push through tomorrow morning. this is whether we're expecting the heavy rainfall to really spread into the area. sunday will be a pretty good travel day, especially as you're trying to get back to southern california. by sunday the heavy stuff starts to come in and this is going to stick with us well until tuesday next week. as far as totals go, they are impressive, over 5 inches of

rain expected in the ukai area, and for us here in beautiful san jose, over an inch and three quarters. >> thanks so much, christina. a water main break in southern california brought thanksgiving traffic to a standstill. take a look at that. this caused a large sinkhole. all lanes were shut down in both directions for about four hours until crews finally able to fix the roadway. about 50 homes and businesses with without -- i would think without maybe water during the repairs but none were damaged by all of that water. >> a driver and passenger inside this suv thankful for thick ice this morning. officials in montana say the suv slid off the roast, came to a stop on a frozen pond. fortunately it was frozen enough

that the ice held. the people inside were shaken but otherwise unhurt. >> two boys are lucky to be alive after being trapped under several feet of snow for hours. >> the boys were building a snow fort in a complex parking lot when a plow clearing the snow pushed more fresh snow on to the pile. when they didn't return home, one of the mothers reported them missing to police. a neighbor told them they last saw them in the snow. they grabbed shovels and started digging until they reached them. the boys were conscious, taken to the hospital and they should be fine. >> today radio telescopes acrwi beam tens of thousands of messages to mars. why? because nasa launched the

nicole grew up in northeast pennsylvania. her mom, a single mother raising two kids, working two jobs. the family's meager lifestyle a source of embarrassment at the time for nicole.

>> very embarrassing. i wouldn't let anybody know. i would stay home a lot. >> but with age and perspective, embarrassment was transformed. >> rob: add mmirationadmiration transformed into admiration. >> the doctor said everywhere you're seeing yellow, that's cancer. and it was from her head to her toes. it looked like her body was on fire. >> marian died in november of 2012. nicole fell into a depression. it was her husband who suggested taking a class to take her mind into somewhere else. so nicole looked at an adult education catalogue. >> when i saw that crochet class, i knew that was my connection back to my mom. so i just finished the border on this blanket. >> crochet because it was

something her mom used to do. crochet because it was something nicole thought she could do to help others going through what her mother just did. nicole, by the way, never took that class. instead she opened a laptop and began teaching herself. five hours later she had a single square and a big idea. >> how about we get the world involved? >> i'm comforting all of those people in the world that need comfort during this hard time. >> her husband created a web site asking others to crochet squares that nicole and friends would sew together into blankets for people battling cancer. within two weeks the first squares started coming in and in less than two years nicole and her team had stitched close to 700 blankets all over the country with no idea of slowing down now. >> i know people want to help
