police officers who put an unarmed man in a choke hold leading to that man's death. eric holder said the justice department will conduct its own investigation into the death of eric garner. >> garner was unarmed had he di died. while obesity and asthma contributed to garner's death, the grand jury said there was probable cause to indict the officer. the officer released a statement saying he was sorry and he didn't mean to hurt garner. >> no, i don't accept his apology, no, i could care less about his condolences. he's still working, still

getting a paycheck, still feeding his kids and my husband is six feet under and i'm looking for a way to feed my kids now. >> the lapd banned officers from using choke holds in 1983. >> in this protest, officers were able to keep most of the crowd off the freeway. many of the protesters were actually stanford students. >> not too far away in downtown palo alto, about 50 demonstrators took to the streets and were chanting "hands

up, don't shoot" and "black lives matter." >> demonstrators marched and chanted to show their disbelief and disappointment in the grand jury's decision. >> in new york city, hundreds packed the grand central station for what they called a die-in, playing on the floor and basically blocking. >>. meanwhile, in femissouri, t attorney general is calling for a change in the law to make it more difficult for officers to

justify deadly force. >> happening today, in a few hours san jose will be shutting down a notorious homeless encampment. the city warned residents earlier this week they had until this morning to clear out. city leaders say once bulldozers tear down the encampment, crews will work to restore the area. >> at the intersection of lake street and 6th avenue, a

sinkhole about the size of a small pool. and they are hoping to form a sinkhole from forming at el camino and middle road. >> this is a very high-traffic area. there are a lot of homes and complexes. this is going to be a pain. >> crews say it may not be fixed until next week. in the city, a pothole about three feet deep opened up alongside a curve and another was fixed on the bay bridge. a multi-balanced project is under way to replace the infrastructure. >> and there's another one coming our way. >> so it goes. christina, this shouldn't be as challenging as previous systems. >> good morning to you. san francisco mostly clear to start the day. weep are going to get a little rain for today but over the course of the weekend, we keep

the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. no pounding rain at least this morning. >> no, but it's still slick out there. we have a great story to tell when it comes to the amount of rainfall we've accumulated. not just here in the bay area. it's a great story for the entire state of california. we might be able to climb from d4 to d3. you may not know what i'm talking about. we're talking about the drought. right now we're as extreme as it gets when it comes to that drought. but we've picked up so much rainfall over the past five days, enough to mack up that deficit up to about 20% in san francisco. so we're looking good. we'll have the latest numbers for you as we head throughout the next couple of days. the rainfall is still coming in so we're still adding to your totals. this morning getting a little break from the rain.
