alongside with dylan and chenille. we want to get to the senseless tragedy that happened in new york, two nypd officers who were gunned down sitting in their car. we're on the scene in brooklyn this morning. >> those two areas were posted in this neighborhood and what should have been a routine assignment in a difficult part of town. instead the new york police commissioner says a gunman walked up to the passenger side of their window and started firing. they didn't have an opportunity to take out their own weapons and the commissioner says they may not have seen the gunman at all. caught by surprise, because an attack like this is so rare and so ruthless. >> they were, quite simply, assassinated. targeted for their uniform and for the responsibility they embraced to keep the people of

this city safe. >> the suspect 28-year-old ids mail brinsley allegedly executed two police officers. they take one of ours, let's take 2 of theirs and including hags rip eric garner and rip mike brown. >> some of the postings that i understand that are out there seem to indicate that he had a very strong bias against police officers. >> he had been arrested at least 15 times in the past, including a charge on weapons possession. he allegedly starting the day shooting a former girlfriend in baltimore who is now recovering in the hospital. police say brinsley then traveled to new york and with a

silver nine millimeter semiautomatic killed officers rafael ramos and wenjian liu. other officers in the neighborhood chased him to a nearby subway stop where he used the same gun to kill himself. brinsley acted alone. there had been weeks of protest following a grand jury decision not to indict police officers in the death of eric garner. last weekend, two officers were injured during the protests on the brooklyn bridge. overnight the head of new york city patrolman benegative alent situation. >> there's blood on many hands tonight, those that incited violence on this street under the guise of protest that tried to tear down what new york city police officers did every day. >> in a statement reverend al

sharp ton wrote i have spoken to the garner family and we are outrage by the early reports of the police killed in brooklyn today. new york city mayor bill de blasio said the murder is not just an attack on the police. >> when a police officer is murdered, it tears at the foundation of our society. it is an attack on all of us. >> as the bodies of both officer ray most and liu were driven out of the hospital, there was one final salute. the baltimore police department did issue an apb for the suspect but commissioner bratton said it came out too late. officer liu got married two months ago and officer ramos was the father of a 13-year-old.

president obama statement i unconditionally condemn dae's murder of two police officers in new york city, two brave men won't be going home to their loved ones tonight and for that, there is no justification. we saw the mayor speaking at the hospital. when he was at the hospital, there was a very telling moment, the officers turning their back on the mayor, tensions have been very high between the mayor and the nypd, this, i would imagine is only making things worse. >> it certainly is, erica, with there being tension between the police and the communities they serve, you would they would be getting along with the mayor who is essentially their pos. this sems back to comments that the mayor made right after that grand jury decision not to indict the officers in the eric garner death. he had set said in a press conference that he had spoken with his son about his fears of his son's inaction with police in this city and after those comments, the head of the police

officers union came out and said in his words the police felt like they had been thrown under the bus. >> all right. now, so those big storms set to make traveling a major hassle on this christmas, with our advice basically if you are going somewhere for christmas, you should probably leave sooner than later. how bad is it? >> it's a lot of wind and rain. a big travel day especially on christmas even. today, we're looking at some heavy rain in the pacific northwest. this is part of the storm that is going to merge with another storm that's going to turn into the east coast storm but for right now we have real heavy rain up through seattle. mountain snow in the rockies. not a who will lot going on in the southeast right now. we're going to see a lot of area of low pressure develop. severe storms across tuesday. 1 to 3 inches of snow in

minneapolis. this is more the rain and wind that we're concerned about. we should see gusts as high as 50 miles per hour. this area of red, that's where we can see an isolated tornado as well on tuesday and then on wednesday, the strongest storms down through the southeast, but we can see delays in washington, new york, up into boston, winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour and the rain is going to be heavy so we could see torrential downpours leading to flooding. those would be your trouble spots on wednesday. we're also following some breaking news overnied boxing legend mohammed ali was sent to the hospital cht. >> he has a mild case of pneumonia. it is not known where the three-time world heavy weight is being treated. >> as new york grapled with the execution style murders of two

police officers saturday there was also a tense scene in minnesota. thousands of protesters stormed the mall of america in a massive protest against the use of deadly force against black men around the country. at one point, parts of the mall had to be locked down. more than 2 dozen people had to be arrested. the son of chicago mayor rahm emmanuel was jumped outside his home. he was treated for cuts and bruises to his face. but he's okay. police in indiana are investigating whether speed and slick roads caused a crash on saturday. >> it was owl of -- out of control, man. i woke up and the bus was spinning around in the street and then just flipped over and

might be considering and what are the administration's options? >> they are very limited, since in many ways north korea is such an isolated country by the united states. in the near term, you are likely to see the state department officiallily put north korea on the list as countries with state sponsored terrorism. it was taken off the list by the bush administration in an attempt to strike a nuclear deal that didn't happen. it could mean that you could sanction any chinese companies that would do business with north korean companies. so there would be some of that, but beyond that, craig, a cyber retaliation, i don't know if that's in the cards because some folks worry that that's a pandora's box, that would be the utilizes giving a permission slip to other countries saying it's a legitimate tool. >> let's talk about the lame

duck president. president obama issuing that executive order on immigration. just this past week, we saw the historic decision to open diplomatic relations with cuba once again. what's next? >> this is exactly the type post election six weeks they couldn't have mapped it out anybetter. this is what the president wants to show, that he is not just relevant in washington and relevant to the debate but still can control the agenda and in many ways he's been dictating the debate whether on immigration or cuba. we're getting a preview this week of what the rest of the two years are going to look like. foreign policy issues of a president's choosing for legacy purposes that's where cuba fits or those that get thrown in your lap, like north korea. >> what's coming up on "meet the press"?

understand they ended up losing. it was a brutal end to the game. for some fans last night did have an upside. a loss season meant a cheaper way to see their team. many fans didn't have to pay a lot for the tickets. ticketholders lost interest and been putting up their seats for sales at bargain prices. it was an opportunity for those who thought prices were too high affordably now. an hour before kick off a seat went for as little as $44. tickets on stub hub for the next 49ers game against the arizona cardinals are going for as low as $60. still well below what fans were paying at the beginning of the season. good news for the raider nation here in the bay area. the team is staying at the coliseum at least for one more season. the commissioner of the nfl announced yesterday that no team will be moving to los angeles next season. the oakland raiders, san diego chargers and the st. louis rams

francisco this weekend, nearly 10,000 toys were handed out to make chas special for lots of boys and girls. this church does not just give to those in need during the holidays. like many, their efforts are year around. >> the energy at san francisco glide memorial is infectious. attracting people from around the block and around the world. when a young williams arrived here as pastor in 1963, his flock numbered 65. >> this seemed to be a good time to make things happen that would be more meaningful. >> at one point williams removed the cross from the sanctuary. in his eyes removing judgment and creating a place everyone felt welcome. >> once it started, couldn't stop it. >> janice, a poet and author, first came to glide in those early days searching for something different.

this morning in today's holiday kitchen a traditional italian christmas. it's always a good day when you guys are here. not just because we know we'll eat well because you guys are like family here on the today show. what are we making this morning? >> erica, we have salmon tartar. we use the alaskan king salmon

to make this dish. we were talking about to cut it in nice sized pieces, you put in the refrigerator, keep it really cold and then you do it. >> i love that tip. this look delicious. we're also making -- this is actually a fairly easy beautiful dish. >> this is tagolini with shrimp. we start with oil, garlic, and some onion, and we put in some chopped tomatoes. >> and are these crushed tomatoes. >> tomatoes, but it's been cooked, and then we put in our shrimp -- >> this is the great thing of cooking something with shrimp, they cook quickly. >> they cook in two to three minutes. when they are pink, they are done. then we have -- >> we put this right in the pan? >> right in here and it all

mozzeerella. this is what it looked like i like low and low, 300, 350 degrees. put a a cover underneath it. that's what it's going to look like. >> your house must smell amazing. >> great side dish. great starter. >> we're making a pair de -- pear crisp. we're using bartlett pears. here is the mayor i nationwide -- marinade has light brown and dark brown sugar, lots of butter, cinnamon, we're going to let this cook for about 10 minutes. we add flower and it gets this
