two police officers were shot and killed this weekend. rafael ramos and wenjin liu were in their police car when they were gunned down. stephanie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sam. the unions here are sending officers to new york city in a sign of solidarity, to show support. there's no evidence of any imminent threat to any law enforcement officers but the brazen killings of those two

nypd officers -- the gunman posting on social media he would put pigs in wings. >> all 10 and 12 hours you have to stay on your toes. you always have to be looking over your shoulder. that's a constant. >> reporter: and police departments in major cities like san jose are on alert to wear bullet proof vests. the san jose police officer's association have been ambushed in the past but that is not a common occurrence. now coming up in half an hour, you understand this of course has a psychological toll on people in this field butch we hear from an expert on what exactly that means. live from our san jose police

this is our trouble spot this morning. mike will talk more about our traffic. it's going to be foggy for at least the first half of the day. then we'll see sunshine for 500 rupe save and even for wednesday we'll get a few peeks of sunshine. wednesday night diving down from is not going to be a huge storm system it could also cause a few more headaches, especially if you're traveling by air. if you're staying local, no big issues. otherwise the weather will stay dry for the next few days.

let talk to the man who is tracking some very interesting stuff on the roads this morning. mike, how are those roads looking in north bay? >> the north bay we talked about that interesting term, land slip hp and lower traffic is what we're expecting pretty much all week because of christmas and hanukkah starting. we will zoom to the north bay. i'm hoping there's only half as much traffic this morning because you only have half your lanes on rodeo avenue and this is sausalito. this light pole fully on, still fully powdered. it's blocking two of your left lanes. let look at the live shot here. we see they've taken the power away from the pole. and there's some sort of vehicle as well. this is slowing the traffic down. it just starting to build.

and we have some emergency crews there as well. we're told 10:00 a.m. before they can reopen the freeway there. we'll look at the map given and we're going to talk about a lot of slowing heading south toward that waldo tunnel. the fog is an issue as well. right now we can't see the roadway from our rooftop camera. you see a light volume of traffic coming off the bridge and a clear view. anywhere north of that san mateo bridge is an issue over on the east bay and of course southbound 101 continues with two lanes closed down near sl t sausalito. it's a huge issue. >> the governor recently signed into law a little requiring day care inspections to be posted

shot his girl friend. she is in the hospital in critical condition. we learned this alert of the threat to shoot officers didn't get to the police in time. >> we have a press conference coming up right after "today in the bay." sam? >> law enforcement officials right here at home are on high alert. stephanie chuang joins us outside the san jose police department. they say they're always on their toes but this is exacting a psychological toll on them as well. >> reporter: absolutely, sam. good morning to you.

of the men and women of the new york police department. president-elect paul kelly tells us the union has been working with police officers to send several officers to new york city. i mentioned a directive to police officers is to not place inflammatory remarks. that hits close to home here in san jose. we'll have more on that in 30 minutes. >> a very upsetting series of events here. vicky? >> new video this morning of an apparent road rage incident that led to a tasing by san jose police. officers say someone reports being targeted. police found the vehicle and they say the suspect took off on a slow speed chase. when he didn't comply with police order, officers tased him. police say the man was brought

to a hospital for observation. no word yet on charges. south bay medical examiners need your help in solving a mystery. last friday a caltran baby bullet train hit and killed a man on the tracks. the man didn't have any personal information and after running his fingerprints, authorities were still unable to identify him. the man is between 25 and 35, he's probably hispanic or white, has a shaved head and brown eyes. he does not have any body tattoos but was warying a black back pack. >> let's shift gears for a second. 5:36 on your monday morning. in for christina this morning, anthony slaughter, who is braving the start of the morning with rubles, i believe. >> i had to go back and look at

russian currency. >> rubles. >> all right. >> glad we got that all cleared up. >> exactly. this is the fog we were talking about in san francisco. you can still make out some of the city lights. there are some spots completely fogged in. in oakland, this is 880. you can barely make out the fog below. with all this fog you may be thinking major headaches, delays at the airports but look at this map. we don't have any delays, not even across the rest of the country, nonetheless here at home. if you're traveling by air, right now you are good to go. as this continues to thicken, do i think we'll great few delays at sfo. today's highs will be very comfortable. we're talking about finally seeing sunshine, even in the south bay. back to 55 there, 56 in the peninsula, even in the east bay where we're looking at dense fog

now, we'll see sunshine later on. we're going to talk about rain headed our way for christmas eve. let's talk to mike and see how the road are looking. >> we do have a tough view over at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's impeding our view of the toll plaza itself. here for the bay bridge down toward the oakland area for 580 and 880. we have half your freeway blocked southbound 101 by the waldo tunnel. there's the light poll that was down there. it was fully lit. here's part of the hill that has come down over your right two lanes. you only have two lanes getting by. you see crews are on scene. they can fully do the clean-up until they assess the integrity of the hillside. that light that's gone, they need more daylight until they can assess what's going on here. that will be an issue until 8 or 10 p.m.

reindeer. he's seens northern lights finally so, bob, you're good to go, right? >> reporter: i'm very good to go. good morning to you, by the way. santa has posted me outside his reindeer pen to keep an eye on these guys. typically they're very rambunctious, some of them try to take off early. i don't but rudolph does. they're doing the smart thing now, getting a lot of rest. one hurdle santa is having to deal with this christmas season, something he hasn't had to deal with before, hackers. so he's given us this exclusie n inside peek into his cyber command to ensure no one will be able to break in and steal his secrets. of course -- wait a minute. guys this has never happened before. it appears someone is trying to hack in right now. they're launching the

bob redell, thank you very much, sir. it is 5:43. i imagine the conditions where bob is located a bit frostier than what we might find here. it is clearing up? >> we're going to see some sunshine today. it took a long time to finally come out p out today. this morning we still do have the fog and we have the cloud with us. just hang on. i think after 11:00 we'll see bold sunshine across the bay area. it's going to come very slowly, though. you can see from our san bruno cam it is very patchy now. in oakland this is where we're seeing the worst of our visibility, down to less than a quarter of a mile. if you're traveling on 880, through oakland, i think by about 10:00 this will clear up. you'll notice those temperatures will be really nice. the east bay and san francisco back into the 60s. once we get rid of the fog, we

will see sunshine for the bay area. the fog will be with us for the first half of the day. our weather headlines do tell the story, christmas eve showers set to arrive here across the bay area. i don't think it's going to be a huge storm system but nonetheless, more rain is a welcome sight. high pressure in control for the next couple of days, pushing all of our forms to the north. we're going to be in the clear for any storms at least for the next two to three days. by wednesday night into thursday, there is going to be a storm system that dies down from the north. it's not going to be huge and most of the heavy rain will stay to our north and over toward the sierra. i'll show you that, tuesday into wednesday. this is wednesday night 11:00, you'll notice sierras looking at some snow. even the bay area, by 7:00 are 8:00 on thursday, the rain is out of here. it's going to be a very quick shot of rain and very light rain. i don't think we'll look at anything heavy.

it will feel like christmas oncy hit thursday. even in san francisco while we will see sunshine today and tomorrow, cloudy skies expected for wednesday and by thursday the mention that chance of rain does push in. looks like most of that will be in the morning hours. that rainy travel is expected for santa's sleigh as he moves across the bay area. those rainfall amounts really lig light. we don't need a huge storm system. we track this all week long. the guy tracking the roads right now, that's mike. >> let's look at this view from josh, our photographer showing you the traffic on south 101. do not be alarmed. i'm going to step. >> jack: the screen here and show you what's going on. these officers are looking at this light pole that was down as a hill slide it was mounted to came down. look at all this rock and debris. crews are here. they want to clear this.

they have two lanes closed and two lanes open. we're told they can't open it until at least better lighting happens because they have to assess what's going on here for the hill side. they don't want to clear it and have more and more keep coming down. they have make sure they can clear it. we're on a slower drive right now. southbound across the waldo tunnel. but then the advisory shifts from the landslide to the fog crossing the bay. the golden gate bridge, the bay bridge. foggy through the oakland hills as well. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza shows you the situation. the clouds building here, the metering lights turning on. as we get back to the maps we're talking about a smoother drive but a slower drive for west highway 4, typical pattern there. someone has died as a result of

this crash so there's local traffic control if you're cutting through heading over towards the 580 area. a live look at the san mateo bridge. >> 5:48 right now on your monday. people living in san francisco's castro neighborhood are on edge this morning after yet another car fire. many residents are worried because the most recent incident happened yesterday on hartford street, firefighters responded to this scene along with arson investigators and put out the

fire. these fires have many worried because at this point all of the incidents were random. it all started last wednesday. firefighters had to put out another fire but an hour later they had to return to the same place where the very first incident happened because another car was burning. firefighters contacted the police department because they believe to be dealing with arson. now are wondering whether it's one person or a group of people. police are asking anyone with information to contact police immediately to prevent any more incidents from happening. >> thank you very much. >> the man accused of setting more than a dozen fires in san jose is set to enter a plea today. patrick brennan was arrested in january. investigators say he set 13

fires including several at homes where people were sleeping, one that destroyed a warehouse. brendan is already a convicted arsonist and sex offender. he faces ten felony arson charges and three attempted arson allegations. if convicted he could face more than 300 years in prison. >> police in castro volley looking for a giant menorah stolen from a jewish organization over the weekend. the rabbi says their nine-foot menorah was taken from the front of the synagogue on saturday night. the menorah had been out there since the first night of hanukkah, which was on tuesday. they filed a report with police in hopes with anyone with information will contact the department. >> a san jose charity will begin giving out gifts today but it is still more than 4,000 kid short. they're coming up short, especially with presents for teen needs. you can drop off gifts all day

even the fbi hedges its bet when accusing north korea. analysis says the hacker or hackers did some of their hacking from an upscale hotel in thailand. north korea says it wants to form a joint task force with washington to find the real hackers. at the same time, it is threatening to blow up the white house so they're a bit off message this morning. >> google has been dogged by a state attorney general from mississippi who has been investigating google for linking to various naughty things like canadian pharmaceuticals, pirated movies, that kind of thing. many of the letters were found to have been written by someone else. there's a picture of mr. hood we
