plane. right now the president of indonesia is flying to surabaya to comfort those families. here's richard jordan with more. >> reporter: these images aired on indonesian television show the latest discovery that may be evidence. the families watched in horror as their worst fears came before their eyes. >> they had radar on this aircraft until the airplane went into probably a very dense part of that thunderstorm. >> the flight disappeared just minutes after a request from the cockpit to climb in altitude because of bad weather.

philippines report that an airasia flight overshot the runway because of strong winds. passengers reportedly had to escape down the emergency shoots to get out of the plane. the plane was carrying 159 people on board. all of them are reported safe. >> police in berkeley are looking for the gunman involved in a deadly shooting. this happened near the university avenue section in san pablo. police say they found a woman dead and a woman injured when they arrived. >> the photos you're looking at were tweeted out by the campbell

police department. the flurry of activity comes in the wake of several car fires last week in san jose. police say three of those fires were likely intentionally set but right now the incidents are not believed to be related. >> now to a story you'll only see on nbc bay area, two victims of a coyote attack speaking out this morning. it happened near several neighborhoods of -- the father said his son was on the sidewalk when a wild coyote attacked him. he used his son's scooter to keep the coyote at bay. >> he was so aggressive. he was looking into my eyes and i was shaken. >> the family made it safely back to their home.

police euthanizing the coyote. it did not have rabies. >> and an investigation stemming from a statewide manhunt for a former cal fire chief. police arrested him on charges he killed his former girl friend, who was a 26-year-old escort. 16 firefighters are now on paid leave for violating unrelated policy. >> because of the high scrutiny of this case, we wanted to make sure we brought in that outside organization to do their investigation. they sent several months thoroughly looking at our academy. we're glad to find there was no sex tape. >> the results of that investigation are expected next month. >> also this morning scientists will measure the snow pack near lake tahoe to see if the december storms put a doubt in

you're watching "today in the bay". check this out. a very scary moment caught on video. a couple managed to escape an avalanche in washington state and they captured the terrifying experience with their cell phone camera approximately colby dotson and his girl friend were on a day hike when they veered off the path and ignored avalanche warning signs. they say they were just a few we feet away from cave. datson said they sprinted to safety and kept the camera rolling the entire time. >> and a couple was about to get married at the 16th green at the sap lem golf course in hawaii where the president was playing and we're told they had to leave. when the couple found out the
