managing how a 7-year-old girl managed to walk away from a mean crash in kentucky that killed everyone on board except her. nbc is following it all in kentucky for us. good morning. >> reporter: lester good morning. amazingly that young girl has already been treated and released from the hospital. relatives are describing nothing short of a remarkable survival story, that of a second grader who wanted nothing more than to help her family. >> a 7-year-old has just come out of the woods alone. >> reporter: sailor gutzler -- her parents and sister and cousin were killed.

sailor had apparently paid close attention to her father's survival skill less sons because she used a burning wing to light a branch to find her way out of the woods. >> she's in shorts a t-shirt. she's 7 years old. she has broken bones. she walks through thorns briars a 12-foot ditch creek bed. and continues to walk until she sees a light at a house. to say it's a miracle is an understatement. >> reporter: she trekked three quarters of a mile. >> this little girl was standing there with bloody less and blod bloody arms. >> reporter: the small plane was

at an altitude of 1800 feet when it reported engine trouble and lost contact with air traffic capitol er controllers. >> most likely it was a problem with both engines which would indicate probably engine icing. >> reporter: a community in shock. >> a horrible loss for us and something that no one could ever expect to prepare for. >> reporter: the family had been returning from their christmas vacation. and federal investigators come the scene today. sailor gutzler is with her family. they are asking for prayers and privacy. a final fair well for the new york city officer gunned down in cold blood. nbc is in brooklyn with more for

us this morning. >> reporter: good morning. as many as 25 people are expected to attend the funeral of wenjian liu. under umbrellas, clus erters of blue police officers attending the funeral of wenjian liu. he had been married just two months. this man traveled from los angeles. >> it's emotional to see how many officers come from all corners of the country to pay respects. >> reporter: he and his partner were ambushed december 20th, their kimming ingkilling by a burglar man partially in retaliation for two unarmed black men killed by

police. the mayor sfwerentered the funeral home. last weekend some officers turned their backs as the mayor spoke aimed at what they claimed was the mayor's sympathetic response to anti-police protesters. he asked officers not to repeat what he called an act of disrespect. new york's governor andrew cuomo says it's time to heal. >> there's a lot of pain been a lot of anguish on many different sides. we have to stop any fights within the family and we have to come together as a family of new yorkers and stand strong. >> reporter: many of those in attendance will watch this funeral on the jumbotrons you see behind me. streets are blocked off for a half mile and security is extremely tight. just minutes ago we saw

bomb-sniffing dogs going through the area. >> and that was anne thompson. >> there are some developments in the search for fight 8501. >> yes, we start in indonesia where bad weather is skpli complicating the search for 8501. >> reporter: good morning. four bodies recovered from the waters today bringing the tote at up to 34. investigators believe that the main contributing factor to this crash was in fact weather. now, they do believe it was icing of the engine. as for the wreckage they were able to recover one piece of wreckage from the waters today, 33 feet long by about 1 foot wide.

they want to get down there to dive down there to get a visual on the fuse on it. the black boxes they think are not far off. they have five ships looking for those black boxes. they do believe they're optimistic that they're going to be able to find these black boxes tomorrow. but it's very optimistic considering how bad the weather has been and how much of a hindrance to the search. that's where they believe most of the bodies will be as well. north korea says the u.s. sanctions will not weaken the country's military. in a statement this morning, north korean officials say the u.s. is groundlessly stirring up against pyongyang. on saturday the appeals

back now on a sunday morning with headlines making waves overseas many the uk. buckingham palace is denying claims against the duke of york sexually assaulted a young girl more than ten years ago. why are claims resurfacing? here's halle jackson. >> reporter: britains woke to a royal scandal playing out in the headlines. recent court papers tiled in florida federal court renewed old allegations an underaged girl identified as jane doe iii

was forced to have sex with the duke of york. other women came forward. no claims have been brought against andrew but the details compelled palace officials to release a statement in his defense on friday saying any suggestion of inpropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue. >> the palace had no option whatsoever to say something. >> when the story didn't blow over buckingham palace issued a second statement saturday saying it is emphatically denied that the duke of york had any form of sexual contact or relationship with the woman. an attorney is accused of having sex with the same underage woman. no claim is brought against him. he denies the allegation and says he doesn't know him. >> prince andrew is as innocent as i am and i presume he is. he should be fighting back in
