5:37 am
bizarre weekends. here's the thing, laura, you'll still want to go to tahoe. don't cancel the plans because you get the sunshine and the snow and that technology for making snow has really been enhanced, so they're still seeing some really thick layers right at the base. we're going to talk about that. in fact, we have a report coming up from squaw valley in just moments. let's talk about that stagnant air mass overhead. this is the only problem that we really have today, we've got high pressure forcing everything to the surface, so you're going to see that thick layer of haze and pollution capping the pay area for part of the day today. another option that you have this morning, if you don't want to get out there, don't want to breathe in that air is to go ahead and use that recycle in your car, use that for today and also i can tell you right now, better air quality by tomorrow morning so if you want to put off that jog for 24 hours, we're not going to be mad at you. something else that happens when high pressure builds n forces everything to the surface including whatever ground level moisture we have available.
5:38 am
as a result we're down to zero miles visibility so you can't see much in fairfield through concord and that's that tulle fog, it's very dangerous. this is really what helps to not make for very safe conditions if you're trying to get down to the central valley. we have had reports of pile-ups with this tulle fog so really want to take it easy if you are traveling down there. temperatures are in the 30s and 40s to start today. we're going to end up in the 60s. more on your weekend coming up. first let's check your drive with anthony. >> no pile-ups today, let's not go there. okay, let's talk about the traffic. we don't have any pile-ups just if you're wondering but we have an accident, this is 80 westbound at the 4 connector. once you get past it lots of green on the highway. outside at the emeryville camera, volume is heavy but no problem approaching the bay bridge. we're showing you the toll plaza. cars are starting to stack up. the metering lights not on just yet, but we are starting to see those cash lanes slow, fast track not a problem. i want to switch gears and jump
5:39 am
over towards the trivalley. this is dublin. this is where we have the thickest fog you were talking about and the worst traveling conditions. i want to show you on the map, doesn't look all that bad, because we still have lots of volume traveling without a problem, moving through the altamont pass and down 80 trying to get down towards the south bay and the bay bridge approach. laura? sam? >> thank you very much. it's 5:39 right now. new this morning the oscar nominations unspooling as we speak. >> unspooling. live look from hollywood where moment ago motion picture academy began announcing the nominees. >> let's listen in, these are for best actor in a supporting role this morning. >> for performance by an actress in a supporting role the nominees are -- patricia arquette in "boy "hood" laura dearn in wild, kira knightly, emma stone in "birdman" or the unexpected virtue of ignorance
5:40 am
and meryl streep in "into the woods." what >> what a transforms for mation meryl streep in that role. >> that's a good tease, we'll wait for more, coming up right after this.

5:43 am
bring pipe bombs to washington, set them off at the capitol and then shoot people as they started running outside, very similar to what we saw last fall in canada. however that plot was thwarted because an fbi informant communicated with him on twitter because of his pro-isis messages. when he went to purchase two assault type weapon answer hundreds of rounds of ammunition that's when he was arrested, a day after an unrelated case also involving a man from ohio, in this case someone who wanted to kill house speaker john boehner, authorities tell us, by poisoning a drink at his country club. all of this raising concerns about security here in washington. especially after the fence jumper last fall. now the secret service is reassigning four top managers trying to change the culture within that agency. >> it's been just a spate of incidents and makes you wonder how many things you're not
