>> and a very good friday morning to you. it's 4:30. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. we have a lot to get to but first your forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> we have light showers impacting sonoma county. throughout the day today we'll see a little bit of light shower activity making way to afternoon sun and temperatures that are really comfortable, but we do have a chance for showers, don't go ahead and pull out that u umbrella, we're not expecting anything heavy. there is some fog this morning. let's check on the drive with anthony slaughter. >> good morning to you, christina. the fog is thick across the benicia bridge. palo alto theret south of this cameraening ale, 101 at shoreline boulevard. it's not too bad as you look at

the camera and traffic is light right now but we have two accidents, the first one is at 101 northbound at shoreline boulevard. the other one in san jose, 280 northbound at seventh street. neither one of those actually impeding traffic that much. fog will be the story across the east bay this morning, actually we do have an accident, a small one blocking the fast lane on highway 4 connecting the 242 so keep that in mind. otherwise we'll continue to track things this morning. back to you all. >> thank you, anthony. we have a warning if you ride b.a.r.t. this morning. protesters are planning to shut down a busy platform in san francisco. >> station workers and police will be ready for any service disruption and here is the reason why. protesters are holding a rally at the montgomery street station. b.a.r.t. spokesperson they can rally as long as they follow the rules. >> we do support the right to express yourself under first amendment rights and that's why we have a program which allows for protests outside our fare gates.

however, people who are in our fare gates who are not there to travel are potentially creating a disturbance that could endanger people. >> so that's what's going on. here's some more details. the protesters demanding charges and fines be dropped against those arrested for blocking a b.a.r.t. train at the west oakland station on black friday last november. you'll recall that protest was prompted by the unrest in ferguson, missouri. just a block from that protest a march is planned for noon in city hall, involves the recent and abrupt closure of the civic campus owned by city college in san francisco. trustees say the campus is not seismically safe. today's march goes from the campus to city hall. in europe we are following developing news. police in paris have evacuated a train station and shut it down this after receiving a bomb

threat. police owe fushl sa a police official says it was closed after a precaution. the prosecutor's office says ten people have been arrested in anti-terrorism raids in the region. the raids targeted individuals linked to the gunmen amedy coulibaly who attacked a kosher market in paris last friday. in belgium, friends are searching -- police are searching for more suspects in what officials call an eminent terror plot there. authorities killed two suspects and arrested a third. this during an intense fire fight in the small town of verviers last night. the had suspects were heavily armed. >> the group was about to commit terrorist attacks in belgium. >> belgium authorities say last night's raid was one of three, leading to an arrest of people who recently returned from syria. another raid in berlin police

arrested two men suspected of recruiting fighters for isis. about two dozen people have been arrested in anti-terrorism raids. the raids will likely be a topic of discussion today as u.s. secretary of statekerry meets with fran is ahollande in paris. he'll lay wreaths at the site for the two deadly terror attacks there. kerry's visit comes amid criticism over the obama administration's failure to send a high-ranking figure to paris for a high-profile unity march last week. president obama is scheduled to meet with british prime minister david cameron today. terrorism and cyber security concerns in the west will be atop of the agenda. new details on how effective or ineffective this year's flu shot really is. the centers for disease control now says that the vaccine only works about 25% of the time. experts say that is a big reason why the flu season is so severe

this year. doctors also say that does not mean that people should avoid getting a flu shot. that's especially true here in california, where flu season won't peak until sometime next month. >> these are early estimates. they are lower than we would have hoped, but not completely unexpected with the mismatch viruses that are circulating. >> when the vaccine was first made last summer it was designed to fight a different flu strain than the one that people are getting sick with today so it is still doing a good job of preventing other strains that doctors are seeing, it's just not the common one. 4:36 right now. raider nation getting a new look at a familiar face today, this as they introduce their next head coach, bay area yo native jack del rio. prior to serving at denver broncos, he was the jacksonville jaguars head coach.

yosemite to pick up some belongings and gear they left along the way. after 19 gruelling days, santa rosa's kevin jorgenson and tommy caldwell successfully made it to the top of the don wall yesterday using nothing but their hands and feet and a safety rope. it's something the two dreamed of doing for the last seven years, and while jorgenson is tired and a little banged up, he says he's on cloud nine and has a message for el cap. >> thank you. what an adventure. she was nice to us. it let us up, this time. yes t could have been the other way around for sure. >> the 3,000-foot journey up the don wall is considered the hardest free climb ever attempted. jorgenson's parents say their son's first climb came when he was just 3 years old. he climbed to the roof of his aunt's home when no one was looking. >> a harbinger of things to come. >> can you imagine walking out

welcome back. it's 4:44. women now have a new opportunity in the military. the pentagon has given the green light to allow women to train with the elite army rangers. officials say about 60 women have signed up to be part of the next training course which begins in april. right now, this is a pilot program, but the outcome could have a big impact on the future of american women in combat roles. happening today, some of the long-held divisions with cuba are being wiped away so to speak. the white house is loosening america's cuban embargo meaning changes for consumers and travelers. americans will be allowed to travel to cuba. the new rules state it has to fall under certain conditions like government business or humanitarian missions. items like cigars can also legally be purchased there and

brought back to the u.s. american businesses will be permitted to export to cuban firms. a first of its kind law for any state in the nation, arizona now requiring high school students to pass the u.s. citizenship civics test in order to graduate. newly elected governor doug ducey signed that bill into law last night. the test involves 100 possible questions. those include knowing how many house and senate members there are, the name of the president, and the vice president, and the name of the national anthem. harder questions include who wrote the federalist papers. the answer to that one, alexander hamilton, james madison and john jay. >> nice to get a history lession. 4:45. investors are hoping the markets will turn around after stocks reel for the fifth straight day. for that and the rest of the news before the bell we turn to landon dowdy live at cnbc

headquarters. happy friday. >> happy friday to you, too. futures are lower after stocks closed at a one-month low and choppy session. disappointing bank earnings, economic data and retail news and a continued slide in oil prices. consum conthe dow falling 163 points. southwest airlines has been find $1.6 million for runway delays. southwest violated rules last january when 16 planes were stuck on the tarmac at chicago's midway airport and passengers didn't have a chance to get off of the planes after three hours. southwest didn't have enough staff on hand to avoid the delays. google will stop selling the consumer version of its web connected eye wear google glass on monday. the company wants to work on a more polished and affordable device. google has been offering a beta or explorer version of google

glass for about the past two years for $1,500. >> i guess that version didn't really take. thank you very much, landon. appreciate that. 4:46 right now. >> sorry. multitasking. >> you do that very well. >> it's what we do. jerry hill is your state senator and you think there ought to be a law today take some action. >> people who vote in the 13th state senate district are eligible to submit suggestions each year for hill's there outa be a law contest. the district kocovers most of t peninsula and south bay. last year's winner a menlo park man suggested confirmations be mailed out to voters indicating their ballots have been counted. governor brown signed that into law last year. >> it's a popular program. lot of folks admit there ought to be a law. >> i thought you were saying their votes are counted. where is my vote? what is the status of my vote now? >> meteorologist christina loren is here. she wants to be counted.

>> i got a couple ideas, too. you know what there ought to be a law against? that no pants b.a.r.t. ride. they just got brand new seats on b.a.r.t. if you're voting for sunshine this weekend, if you're voting for the 70s, we're going to have that for you. we call it chamber of commerce weather and here in the bay area it has been above average temperature wise, just about all week long. more of the same but today we include some light showers so we're mixing it up a little bit for you. especially up in the north bay we have a better chance for that as we head into this afternoon. i stop that clock for you at 11:00 a.m., a little bit more activity in the north bay. this is our best shot for showers as we get into today. we'll see that front lift back to the north by this evening and tomorrow morning we'll wake up with some very light precipitation before high pressure builds in rapidly. that will boost our numbers up. 66 degrees in the south bay. 6 on the east shore today and 63

degrees in wine country. so by tomorrow morning we'll wake up with a mostly cloudy sky and see those clouds make way to a lot of sunshine and beach weather. 69 degrees for tomorrow in monterey. 71 in santa cruz. and bodega bay will clear out tomorrow, 65 degrees, just about as warm as we head throughout your sunday. tomorrow morning if you're driving around and waking up early, catch anthony slaughter here on nbc bay area, he does the morning weather and we're looking good for light showers saturday, clearing out to a gorgeous day, gorgeous weekend and hey, you might have monday off as we honor the reverend dr. martin luther king jr. and looking good for nice weather monday into tuesday and the storm track comes back toward the end of next week. we'll talk more about that come up. back to you sam and chris. >> thank you very much. president obama will hold a screening of the movie "selma" at the white house with cast and crew. >> there's a push to get middle school students to see the film

but although "selma" seems to have presidential approval its actors got snubbed by the oscars, all 20 acting nominees are white, that has not happened in 17 years, talking about for the full oscar come nations. the nominations generated a lot of criticism. academy president who is african-american responded to the controversy saying this year's movies were just very competitive. we should point out "selma" is still in the running for best picture. >> a little bit surprising i think. >> it is. sometimes we hear about moms in labor who can't quite make it to the hospital in time. >> this east bay mom is not the only one. why a stretch of highway 24 near has layette may need a name with "baby boom" in it. >> this morning traffic is light across the east bay. still early. we have some fog out there. we'll break down the morning commute and get you out the door on time. it's 4:51. you're watching "today in the bay."
