why in atherton people are warned to keep their doors locked this morning. and closer to solving a mystery, what wildlife officials are doing today to try to figure out what's causes dozens of birds to die. we have overcast skies this morning closer to san jose and fog in san francisco. we're tracking that and some 70s in this your microclimate forecast. we'll look at that coming up. >> something in the air, feeling like it will be a rougher commute. the something is the fog rob is talking about, the build in the east bay and more troubles coming over from the trivalley coming up. >> let's go outside first though, no troubles at least from first blush right here, that's the golden gate bridge which you can make of it, behind all that fog. you are watching tuesday january the 20th and this is "today in the bay." >> a very good tuesday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon.

>> and i'm sam brock. some spooked neighborhoods at an exclusive neighborhood on the peninsula after repeated sightings of a man neighbors say is not supposed to be there. >> reporter: laura, sam, atherton police are asking those who live in the peninsula which has a reputation of little if any crime and keep their wits about them and coodoors and win locked if they're not at home or going to bed. several incidents over the past few weeks the latest incidents two of them this past saturday at homes on sutherland drive and mesa court which we put on the screen for you, they are in the same neighborhood. police tell us that this person that lives at the house on sutherland spotted a suspicion man on their property looking into the windows. the prowler bolted once the two made eye contact. the man was spotted a short distance away within a few

minutes inside the poolhouse at the home on mesa court but that person was gone by the time police arrived. >> i have to be sure that my husband knows that he can't leave any doors open. so he has to be more careful obviously. >> reporter: based on descriptions provided to them, atherton police tell us this prowler is hispanic, 25, 31 years of age, slender build. distinguishing characteristics of the face, pointed nose and a closely cropped beard. they have not made any arrests as of yet. earlier in the month there were a couple of other ips dents away from that neighborhood but in other parts of atherton one instance where someone returned home and their doors and windows were unlocked. another person returned home and found the spare key that had been stolen them was inside the deadbolt of their front door. reporting live in atherton, rob redell, "today in the bay." the two men accused of a

violent attack inside of a bath uin levi's stadium are expected to appear before a judge this morning. the brothers are expected to enter their pleas today. the men are accused of attacking two other men during a 49ers game in october which you have video of, police say the attack was unprovoked and one of the victims could face lasting damage. today we could learn what is killing dozens of birds in the east bay. >> a number of birds turning up covered in a mysterious goo seems to be growing. good morning. >> reporter: that's right, good morning to you both, sam and laura. volunteers have really targeted some hot spots including the almeida shoreline, this has been a hot spot for a lot of the sick birds rescued all the way down the east bay shoreline to san leandro and hayward. again, this is where volunteers have focused their time. talking so far over a period of four days, 250 rescued sick

birds and 50 found dead and they're saying there are countless more that are dead. they're focused on rescuing at this point. the mysterious thick, sticky substance has killed dozens of the birds stripping them. their feathers and leaving them to die of hypothermia. the goo is not toxic or oil based. today they begin their official investigation. >> smelly residue on your gloves or anything, but it is kind of tacky to the touch so it gets sticky so it sticks to your gloves. >> right now, the parks folks and biologists tell me it's not dissipating as we had hoped and we had thought it was. >> reporter: the international bird rescue center has been a big player in this and estimates it's been costing $5,000 to $8,000 per day with all the volunteer work and rehabbing of the birds. we're talking possibly $30,000 so far and hoping people will donate some money. this morning, state officials

are slate to the perform necropsies on some of the dead birds but it could be a few days before we get a real answer on what the mysterious substance is. the state is starting its official investigation and coming up in the next report in about 40 minutes what could happen if they're able to determine who's behind this leak. live in almeida, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> looking forward to finding out more information. thank you very much. >> most definitely. we have new details on a water rescue. a coast guard helicopter spotted men near coyote frequent in fremont. the boaters used a cell phone to help around 6:30 but then the phone fell into the water. this marks the second rescue in a little more than 24 hours. the king tides are dangerous because they can lure boaters into shallow waters and then

leave them stranded when the tide goes out. the king tide time of the year. we'll check in with rob and find out more. rob, we saw from stephanie's live shot a second ago that foggy conditions you've been talking about all morning are pervading many parts of the bay area. >> the next king tide is coming up just before 10:00 this morning at about seven feet. the fog can creep up quickly around the inner bay. you can see some of the patchy dense fog dublin to san francisco and at times into the north bay. you'll see numbers in the 40s and 50s outside. we'll talk more about that in a moment. we also have within the last hour 4.4 earthquake down in king city, it's possible of a quake of this size you might have felt sop shaking up to gilroy and santa cruz. this was along the san andreas fault. 4.4 there northeast of king city. little bit earlier this morning. back to the bay area, we've got that low cloud cover there, overcast skies around san jose but the fog pretty thick around

the golden gate bridge, and we're also finding it quite thick out around dublin there, 580 at 49 degrees, as we go through the morning, patchy areas of dense fog, seeing that closer to the oakland airport, too, this morning. livermore and oakland less than a half mile and sunnyvale seeing reduced visibility this morning. lunch time low clouds breaking up with hazy sunshine headed into the afternoon and highs today and tomorrow still mostly in the low 60s near san jose. near 60 and upper 50s for san francisco you'll see low 60s around the north bay and trivalley. as high pressure strengthens and dry north winds start to pick up friday into saturday, that's going to rocket the temperatures upward. those are the 70s we're talking about, early as perhaps showing up on friday but certainly by saturday and sunday, low to mid-70s this weekend and if we can manage that, we could be breaking records for high temperatures here towards the end of january. for another look at that fog affecting your morning commute, here's mike. >> rob the affect will be great on your morning commute if you're in spots like dublin,

where we have our live camera, west 580 and started to get a better glimpse of the roadway than we have for the last 45 minutes. the lights illuminating the lot there, one of the auto dealerships alongside as you approach hopyard there. as we look at the map, the orange overlaid across the maps has folks know that's our weather data, translating toward a road weather index conditions for the drive, tougher visibility out of livermore andality month pass and the build for south 680, typical pattern. south of there and along the water's edge for the peninsula and 880 we're looking at a smooth drive. fog not so much of a factor but advise is from chp for the dumb barton and san mateo bridges. as we look at this map farther north from 92 there's fog all over highway 24. the concord area, walnut creek interchange and also in the north bay for petaluma and novato southbound 101, it factors there as far as visibility. look at the bay bridge toll plaza, the backup for the

metering lights and lower visibility across that span you may see the metering lights turn on a tad bit slower. we haven't seen any unusual backups. . is the typical backup at the bay bridge. this shot is north of san pedro road. we'll track that >> sometimes metering lights help people out but metering lights kept on until 11:00 a.m.? >> that is the plan for the new light along a big stretch of highway 85. caltrans will run from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the goal is to ease some congestion in the area which you know about if you've been trying to commute to san jose north. it's increasingly heavy traffic. the metering lights will turn on southbound for afternoon commuters tomorrow. the extended morning hours for northbound drivers will start january the 28th so keep that in mind on your commute.

in yards. investigators in sunnyvale looking for an armed man who held up a 7-eleven. the clerk in fair oaks tells us around 8:30 last night a man came into the store, showed a gun and demanded money. tonight president obama will give his last state of the union address. during his speech president obama will urge congress to cut taxes for the middle class and get rid of tax breaks allowed to theih/bñ/sxñ wealthy to shield of dollars by giving money to their children. more trouble right now for san francisco based air bnb. thousands of miles away, coming from new york. hearing before the new york city council is set for tonight. several residents are expected to testify illegal rebtales are driving out tenants and hurting living conditions. air bnb allows those to list apartments for travelers looking for a place to stay. a new race in silicon valley &ñr bring internet to the world.

>> it's going to bring lots and lots and hundreds of satellites. there are two companies vying for the lead in this, the first is spacex. elon musk says his company is planning to launch low earth orbiting satellites and that's got the attention of dwogoogle which reportedly wants to invest in spacex. google's had its own experiments with internet but only using balloons. richard branson who last week announced he was teaming up with the company one web. branson has a leg up here because one web has rights to the radio spectrum that spacex doesn't. then again spacex knows how to launch rockets, doesn't it? this afternoon 4:30 our time a delta rocket will lift off from florida creating a satellite built in sunnyvale. here it is, the muos right here, lockheed martin. you'll see some of the engineering watching as protective faring is put on.

it will send cellular voice and data to solders on the battlefield. as we count down to the state of the union, sam, you mentioned taxes, to that i would add net neutrality. president obama and the fcc seem set on their plan to enforce net neutrality but the lawmakers he's talking to, which of course a majority of whom are republicans don't like the plan. there's a push to hurry up legislation in congress before the fcc votes in february. both sides, guys, agree the concept of net neutral is solid but republicans say putting a government agency in charge of the internet is not the best way to keep the internet free and open. >> better hash out a solution soon as the deadline is ticking. >> yes it is. >> thank you very much, scott. lawyers for bp will be back in court today as federal lawyers ask a judge to issue additional fines for the 2010 oil spill in the gulf of mexico. federal lawyers want bp to pay another $13.7 billion in

penalties. bp will argue its costs already have hit $42 billion, that includes a response and cleanup. the deepwater horizon oil rig exploded in this april of 2010, killing 11 workers and spewing more than 3 billion barrels of oil into the gulf. decision is not expected to be decided for a few months. live outside the bay bridge toll plaza as you might expect, 6:16, nice and jammed up. shifting gears and shifting of the land as well this morning. >> folks woke up at 5:21 this morning, a bit of an alarm clock for the friends in king city and central coast, tracking that 4.4 earthquake which would have been large enough where you might have felt some of the shaking in the southern ends of the bay area toward santa cruz south of san jose. that was a 4.4 at 5:21 this morning. as we look at the shaking of

intensity. there's san jose and santa cruz, down into salinas where most of the shaking was at the quake. if you got up at 5:21 san jose south 4.4 off to the north and east of king city this morning. san jose 46 degrees. you see the overcast there near downtown. the fog thick across the going going at times with some misty skies. 52 degrees and we can see out towards dublin 508 shrouded in fog this morning, currently 49 degrees. visibility dropping off too in oakland. less than a half mile there. livermore down into sunnyvale where the patchy thick fog is set up. san jose about seven miles of current visibility. we have' got this foggy start to the morning and then as we go through the afternoon, we'll see gradual clearing at times, giving way to hazy sunshine. notice the fog hanging on until lunch time and hazy sunshine later on today. later on this morning we'll be tracking another round of these king tides, unusually high astronomical high tides.

one coming up before 10:00 this morning out at ocean beach, the highest of the three days which started yesterday will continue for one more day tomorrow at about seven feet there, just before 10:00 a.m. watch out for unusual rip currents along the coastline and potential for roadway flooding exists again over the next couple of mornings. the other big weather headline as we approach the weekend is warm days ahead. temperatures having the potential to break records as we get into friday and saturday. you can see high pressure building in for the end of the week, a light offshore wind pattern keeping the rain to the north and high temperatures later this week making a run at the 70s. not the case today. we're fog cooled with highs in the low 60s. hazy sunshine around san jose. close to 60 in san francisco. low 60s in santa rosa and pleasanton and livermore high 60s. next five days numbers getting closer to 70s in san jose friday and low to mid-70s this weekend if we can hit the mid-70s this weekend for this time of year, that would be breaking some

records with maybe some guilty sunshine we'll call it. gorgeous weather but we could use some rain and snow. unfortunately none of that in the seven-day forecast through the upcoming weekend. for another check of your morning commute here's mike. >> guilt-free sunshine, let folks enjoy it throughout end of the week. over here we'd enjoy a clearer view right here for the area pass in oakland coliseum. southbound 880 and northbound, you can barely make out the headlights. the bay bridge toll plaza is also a tough slew. little bit better as far as the toll plaza itself but hard to make out portions of the 880 overcrossing and can't see folks coming off the straightaway. the backup at the toll plaza pretty standard, building to 580 and 24. this whole stretch of 24 from the walnut creek interchange i'm showing you on the maps here is a slower drive because of the fog, lower visibility at times, also through alamo and danville but not a major concern as far

as the speeds go, at least not yet, a little build for the east shore freeway and north bay, petaluma, novato and novato tougher visibility and patches through fairfield and vallejo starting to move off. watch north of the carquinez bridge and benicia bridge. lower visibility for livermore. no problem through sunol and pleasanton as far as speeds go and typical pattern east bay on the east side of the san mateo bridge over on the west side peninsula, we're just starting a little bit of a build north 101 at the bottom of your screen. the live look we'll show you our camera, north 101 at 680. this one will hit and stick for the morning commute, nothing dramatic here. the view of the san mateo bridge from foster city does show you 92. it's tougher to see coming off of that span on the roadway, drivers seem to be making their way in toward foster city just fine. low clouds and fog and 92 at upper 35, skyline boulevard a

disabled rig toward the half moon side of the bay bridge as well. developing right now, japanese leaders are vowing this morning to save the lives of two hostages being held by isis militants. in an online video released this morning, two extremists claiming to be with isis threatened to kill hostages in orange jump suits. we're choosing not to show the images of this video because it is isis prop gone da. the group is asking for $200 million in the next 72 hours. the two hostages have been identified as a military contractor and a freelance journalist. over in new york, four men police say are connected to the terror attacks in france are expected to face a judge today. the men are accused of providing logistic support to amedy coulibaly. he shot and killed a policewoman in the outskirts of paris before taking hostages at a kosher supermarket. it's not clear if the men were involved in planning those

taking extra precautions as flu season peaks. some homts are asking visitors to wear maxes, wash their hands. others aren't letting anyone under 16 pass the waiting area. doctors say we should take precautions to prevent the spread of the flu that includes coughing into your arm, keeping your hands clean and getting you a flu shot even if it doesn't protect against one of the season's come nant strains. the measles outbreak linked to disneyland nearly doubled in size since last week. there are 52 confirmed cases of measles tied to people who visited diz kneeland between december 17th and december 20th. 45 of the cases are here in california. four of which are here in the pay area in almeida county. experts say the outbreak is being fueled by parents who are refusing to vaccinate their kids. if you're sitting down you might want to stand up to are this next story. >> okay. that's tough to pull off.

new research finds that sitting for too long elevates our risk of cancer, card know vass car disease and type two diabetes. researchers in canada combined data from 47 studies on sitting. who is doing the studies on sitting? people who sat for fewer than eight hours total each day were 14% less likely to be hospitalized. experts suggest monitoring your daily sitting time and be sure to stand up and walk around periodically just to get the blood flowing. now you know what we'll do in the commercial break. >> laps around the studio. up next the markets back open after being closed for the mlk holiday. look at the early numbers coming up with scott mcgrew. plus calling on congress. what the president is expected to say tonight in his state of the union address. a live look at the s curve in san rafael. drivers moving with a decent flow though they are battling foggy conditions. rob puts it all into context for us. we'll be back after this break.

all eyes on the president as he prepares to deliver his penultimate message to millions of people. while the speech is hours away it's already garnering criticism this morning. and tracking patchy fog for your morning commute and rush of the king tide could cause localized flooding along the coast, also 70s in your microclimate forecast coming up. the fog is making it tough to see in many patches along the bay, across the bay the san mateo bridge for example tougher to see as well but getting here east bay dryers will have an issue. i'll show you what i see that popped up for the chp report coming up. plus wall street is back to work. they had monday off for martin

expected to make much headway in the new republican-led congress. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with more on what we can expect to hear tonight. >> good morning to you both. we expect to hear about tax cuts for the middle class and hikes for the rich. the taxes are expected to be front and center with a plan to cut taxes for members of the middle class raising taxes for the wealthy, even closing a loophole that allows the rich to pass on their wealth to their children tax free. the president's plan also includes a fee on the biggest financial firms making it more expensive to borrow. those reforms could raise up to $320 billion over a decade but as you mentioned in a republican controlled congress, to say there could be resistance is really putting it mildly. the president of one conservative political advocacy group is more blunt about it saying higher taxes not going to happen. >> i think the president's plan to raise taxes is dead on arrival in this congress. it won't work. it will cost us jobs.

>> as always, there will be average americans sitting up with the first lady during the state of the union address and the president is expected to talk about how his policies have already helped them and others and going forward how he aims to increase wages and grow incomes in the middle class. here are some things to consider as you watch tonight, right here on nbc bay area. the president's approval rating, the highest it's been in a year, it's at 46%. americans also say they feel positive about the economy, according to a new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll. however, only one of four people polled say their own financial situations have improved. coming up in the next half hour a preview of the state of the union address from the president himself and a preview of what we expect will be the gop response. >> you said being made by freshman lawmaker? >> freshman lawmaker from iowa. >> interesting. >> a little insight this morning, thank you, kris. >> you can watch the president's entire state of the union address live right here at kris mentioned on nbc bay area. our coverage about begin at

6:00. be sure to tune in early at 5:00, we'll have a look at your local news. live look outside right now this morning, we are going to check out san jose, the city skyline off in the distance. the fog not too bad in the south bay but it is impacting other areas as you look to get ready to go to work. >> are we going to see the sun come out and burn some of that off, rob? >> i think so, probably more towards late morning and lunch time. of course in january the low sun angle here now that we're in winter and we really need some wind to mix down dry air and break up some of the low clouds. not getting a lot of that through the middle part of the morning. spots around the bay area are socked in by the low clouds. 46 in san jose right now, san francisco 52 degrees, and misty skies awaiting you there at the golden gate bridge. 580 in dublin, 49 with thick fog at times. visibility down to less than a half mile, in novato towards concord, oakland, livermore and actually down towards san mateo and sunnyvale starting to see

patchy, thick fog around the peninsula. watch out for that with your morning commute and misty skies, too. hour by hour approaching lunch time. notice the fog across the bay or closer to san francisco, and then as we head into the afternoon we'll see hazy sunshine and temperatures eventually reaching the low 60s. watch out if you're heading out to the coast and inner bay especially if our next king high tide is coming up just before 10:00 this morning, up to about seven feet so we'll find along the bay and some coastal areas is the potential for unusual currents and rip currents and potential there for some roadway flooding, too, coming up just before 10:00 this morning. the futurecast shows you just some high clouds moving by in addition to the low clouds you're seeing around the bay area right now. highs today still in the 60s, low to mid-60s around san francisco. and things will begin to warm up second half of the week as we get into the weekend. high pressure strengthens. those winds will turn more strongly offshore. we'll start the mornings with

less fog and more sunshine if highs in the mid-70s this weekend. we could be close to record territory come saturday and sunday. mike? >> all right, rob. we like those records over here. looking over to the bay bridge, the toll plaza itself has the metering lights turned on, pretty typical time and we do see fast track moving pretty well for this time on a tuesday a low visibility. that may be playing a factor. look at your map as we show you the entire east shore freeway from hercules we have slowing. the orange painted in the fog from the walnut creek interchange in concord, pleasant hill toward the maze and that may be what's adding a factor toward the slowdown for 580 and 24. we have this build on a tuesday anyway but we may see slower metering lights because of the lower advise ibltd across the span at times that is a factor across the bay bridge and the richmond/san rafael bridge. golden gate bridge, pretty much any of your bay bridges will have low clouds around this time. southbound 880 toward 92 we had a crash, looks like it's cleared

from the chp report approaching the san mateo bridge. this is coming off of the hayward side and we have that build kicking over the last 15 minutes, west 29 slow toward the foster city side where that fog as rob said is creeping through 101 at 92, i've lost sight of the bridge from the foster city camera. it's okay for drivers but watch the low clouds and in the south bay, san jose shows you the volume starting to kick in from north 101, slow from 101, 85 and 280 also your typical patterns throughout the south bay and not a lot of fog down here. >> a lot of folks out there. >>e e6:36. the markets have been open for a few minutes. >> good morning the first opening for this week because the stock marx had yesterday off as we check the big board in new york city, the dow is slightly higher this morning, 42 points. netflix is a little bit higher as well, about two bucks higher. it reports its profits after the closing bell today. marriott says it's going to

experiment with streaming netflix into its hotel room, big screen tvs which would be pretty cool. the big question i think we want to watch for, laura and sam, is how netflix is going to compete with amazon. you were reporting earlier, amazon moving into the movie industry. they can fund that because they got a whole other business. netflix, that's their own business. >> right, interesting competition going on. >> thank you very much, scott. 6:37. still ahead, connected nash and grabs? one business owner says the thieves who robbed a popular san francisco store yesterday are the same ones who ripped him off just last week. he says he has the video to prove it.

happening today more than 9,000 potential jurors will be heading to a colorado courtroom marking the start of the trial for the man accused in a deadly shooting rampage at an aurora movie theater outside of denver. james holmes faces multiple counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder for the 2012 shooting during the midnight showing of "the dark knight rises." 12 people died and more than 70 others hurt in the incident. holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. if jurors decide he was legally sane during the attack, holmes could be sentenced to death. a section of a busy interstate in ohio will be closed for the next two days after a bridge collapsed, killing a construction worker. it happened last night as crews were working to take down an overpass in cincinnati. construction worker was killed by falling pieces of the bridge.

big rig driver also had to be taken to the hospital. investigators say about 100 tons of concrete fell. investigators are trying to figure out if the thieves who drove a u-haul through the front of this patagonia store are the same people who broke into a camera store a few blocks away, all of this happening near fishermen's wharf in san francisco. the suspects who are still on the loose got away with expensive merchandise. camera store owner says the suspects are likely the same guys that burglarized his store last week, just three blocks away. surveillance video shows a u-haul van stopping there and two men get out and smash that i way into the store. the owner says boxes of cameras and lenses were stolen there. coming up, a neighborhood on edge. why police in atherton are warning people to keep their doors locked this morning. and closer to solving a mystery. what wildlife officials are doing today to find out what's

police department. they just released this sketch that was based on talking to the people who had this suspicion man around their home in atherton. they tell us this man they're looking for, two kechz on either side from two different people's descriptions but they believe it is the same person. they tell us this man is hispanic, he's young, around 25 to 30, 31 years old, slender build and the one distinguishing characteristic about his face outside the closely cropped beard, he has a pointed nose. now they tell us that this happened over this weekend on saturday at homes on sutherland drive and mesa court, which as you can see on the map we put up on our screen are in the same neighborhood just down the street from each other. the person who lives at the house on sutherland spotted that man on his property looking into their windows. they both made eye contact that's when that prowler bolted and then the man, the prowler was spotted inside the poolhouse of the home on mesa court a few minutes later, not too far away,

but was gone by the time police arrived. >> message is this, your police department is working hard for you trying to keep you safe, but we also need your help identifying these people, keeping your doors locked and alerting us immediately so we can respond with the response needed. >> reporter: arming garducci with the atherton police department tells us last week we arrested two other people for burglars in the same area. they have seen an uptick in burglaries in the city of atherton and the county for that matter and wondering if it has to do with the early release of inmates or ab 109, which is a realignment of taking prisoners from the state prisons and putting them in the county jails and eventually ending up on the streets. that's something we're trying to figure out. again they are looking for that suspicious man who was spotted around the two homes on saturday. they still have not found that man. the other two people i mentioned were arrested.

mile visibility this morning. it will take some time for the low clouds to break up. we don't have strong north winds today. low sun angle in the sky so the dry air mixes down to the fog layer passing lunch time when we'll break out the hazy sunshine. still patchy fog there trapped around benicia and napa into the evening. another thing to watch out around the bay and coastline around 0k this morning, another king tide showing up close to a high tide of seven feet. there's potential for localized flooding along the coast and inner bay, one more king high tide coming up tomorrow morning, also near about 10:00. so the microclimate forecast for today has highs in the low 60s around san jose, closer to 60 in san francisco, over towards santa rosa, 62. low 60s around the trivalley and then as high pressure strengthens here for the second hall of the week, winds turn slightly offshore, we're going to see less morning fog and temperatures vaulting upwards here in the weather trend approaching the weekend going from the low 60s and fog-filled mornings to more sunshine even

the thick dense fog that rob and mike have been talking about obscuring the view of the water along the al me almeida shoreline. after days they're getting support from the state after they've already rescued about 250 sick birds and found 50 dead others and they've been going along the shoreline down from almeida to hayward, where we were standing just a few feet away from one dead bird also coated in the mysterious substance yesterday. the marsh and seabirds have been in the unknown thick, sticky substance that strips their feathers leaving them to die of hypothermia. it's not toxic nor oil based but this morning they are set to start investigation into where the goo came from and who might be behind it. >> what this is, what we can do to negate it and if there's a responsible party and go after them for criminal charges if it comes down to that. >> here is an example of one sick bird the second

contaminated surf skoter found by crews in two days taken to a mobile rehab facility at the east bay regional shoreline in hayward. volunteers are washing the birds with vinegar and baking soda and hydrating them. this morning state wildlife officials are slated to perform necropsies on some of the dead birds but it may take a couple to a few days before we get a definitive answer what this substance is. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay" >> thank you very much, stephanie. passengers on two delta flights got a scare on the tarmac in new york late last night. someone called in bomb threats forcing them to evacuate the plane. we have cell phone video from a passenger on one of the planes. police say they got two anonymous calls saying there was a bomb on board delta flight 468. turns out there were two flights numbered 468. one of them left sfo landing in new york around 8:00 eastern time. the other was on the tarmac heading overseas.
