it's going to be warm, and you're saying go to the beach? >> absolutely. if you can. >> if you can. >> if you've got the day off. it's going to be beautiful everywhere across the bay. regardless if you can't make your way to the beach, we'll take you there. hazy from our san francisco shot but fog-free across the bay area. offshore winds driving high surf later today. if you're headed to the beach, keep that in mind. talking about waves that could reach up to 20 feet in some breakers especially the westerly-facing beaches. now we are talking. record heat over the next couple of days. yes, it is going to be unusually warm especially for this time of year. unfortunately, there's a small price to pay. we have to spare the air the air for today. most unhealthy levels across north bay and south bay. again, ban is on wood burn, with temperatures so warm, i don't think you'll need to use that fireplace. notice temperatures in the 40s and 50, for the most part. a bit of patchy fog across the

north bay. but really, big story this within is warm temperatures. 71 in san francisco. 76 in the north bay. 73 in the south bay and tri-valley. so really, wherever you go, it's hard to complain with temperatures like this. i know we need the rain but we are talking about the chance of rain coming up. we'll show you that in a bit. >> a little bit of sun and maybe a little bit of rain. thanks. we have new details this morning, we're getting our first look at the man who shut down an entire strip mall with a bomb threat. police hope someone will recognize him from the video and photos and come forward with information. mountain view police want you to take a look at this. this man held up the 24-hour pharmacy at walgreens on december 11th, demanding not money but oxycodone. he got away on a motorcycle. leaving a bomb behind. police shut down the strip mall for hours until the bomb squad could safely remove the package which turned out not to be a bomb.

police think the same thief hit walgreens and a rite aid in morgan hills. >> could be addicted to pain medicine, could be a dealer. we're not sure the reason why somebody would do this. we know that he's using the same method, feigning to have a bomb which, in all three, turned out to be not. >> pharmacies across the country frequently report oxycodone deaths as addicts and dealers look to source the drugs. a busy night for police in sunnyvale. first, sounds of an explosion, and then a burglary interrupted. people near downtown reported a loud explosion around 8:00 last night. turned out to be fireworks. at the same time, police received a call about a home burglary two miles away on remington drive and mary avenue. officers swarmed the neighborhood, closing off streets and searching for the burglar. >> this is not the typical friday night here remington at all. the 20-plus years i've lived

here, i think the worst thing we've had, speeders up and down the street. this is quite out of the ordernary. >> one person is under arrest in connection with the robbery. a woman killed in a hit-and-run in the south bay. it happened last night at almaden expressway and deamonte and south san jose down street from pioneer high. the womalking near the intersection but not in it. it's not clear if she was hit by more than one driver. a muni crash in san francisco blocked an intersection for hours yesterday evening. the scene at the corner of yolola. a car ran head-on into an el muni train, derailing it. the driver and child in the car were taken to the hospital with seriously injuries, we're told, that are not life threaten. more cases of the measles in the bay area.

this morning, nine confirmed. santa clara, san mateo counties have two cases of the measles, and alameda county has five. alameda county also where health leaders asked parents of 30 babies to quarantine themselves because of possible exposing sure. it's a precaution because none of the 30 children have shown symptoms but no one is taking any chances with the disease that's so contagious. >> you may get a recommendation to have a blood test, check on your immunity, or the recommendation may be to get another shot. really, no harm in getting another shot. >> statewide, 68 measles cases, 48 linked to people who visited disney land. and just like you heard in that sound bite, experts are urging everyone to get vaccinated even if you have already been. we've learned that a second livermore church recently has been tagged with offensive graffiti. we first reported thursday night. police are stepping up patrols near holy cross lutheran church

graffitied twice in the past two weeks. police are investigating the incidents as hate crimes. and as we've reported last night, the church of jesus christ of latter day saints also hit, the churches are next door. police believe the crimes are related. in the south bay, it was clearly work of teenagers. that's what administrators are saying at morgan hill's paradise valley school. police documented swastikas, obscenities and the letters kkk. investigators looking at video in hopes of finding the vandal whose hit nearby homes and cars, as well. the racist words and images were covered up yesterday morning before students arrived. there are a lot of unanswered questions this morning, but we know this, expensive wine swiped from the famed french laundry restaurant has been found. but the story of the wine heist is far from over. and many say high-end wine

attracts criminals. "today in the bay's" jean elle out explains the dark side. >> you have to be on a specific mailing list to get any wines and the wait to get on the mailing list is incredibly long. >> reporter: a wait to wait for a bottle of screaming eagle. k & l wine merchants says access can cost you. >> up to $3,000. the 1992 vintage around $5,000 a bottle because the inaugural release and there aren't many. >> reporter: the cult line is one of the pricey labels stolen from the renowned french laundry restaurant christmas night. someone broke in and snagged more than 70 bottles worth as much as $300,000. >> they mail that inventory to everyone in the industry who would likely see it. >> reporter: looking for anybody who would sell it through an auction. >> move through an auction house or wine broker. >> they landed in the hands of a private collector across the

country. detectives found most of the bottles in greensboro, north carolina. >> wines were recovered from a person we are categorizing that at this point as being unsuspecting at the time the wines were stolen. >> reporter: no arrests have been made. the high-end wine industry is attracted attracted to thieves and counterfeiters in 2012 the fbi arrested a man in southern california, excusing him of selling more than $1 million of wine at action. stringer says he won't buy without a paper trail. >> the best documentation they can have, original credit card receipt, invoice from the chateau or winery itself. >> reporter: private collectors keep their investment at a storage facility, or have tight cellar security. >> applications on your iphone if your cellar door is opened it will send you a text mettage notification. >> reporter: technology that could prevent another high-priced wine heist in napa valley.

that's the clockwise rotation. what we've got offshore winds, going to continue to bring in very stagnant air, unfortunately for us a dry wind and a warming wind. the north bay, south bay, that's where we have the worst air quality today. we have spare the air, unfortunate nayly, for the entire bay area. waking up to clear sunshine everywhere across the bay today. beautiful conditions. even in the south bay. we've had fog over the past few mornings. even tri-valley, it's been hazy this morning, the same story. north bay, fog up there this morning. san rafael, you can see, traffic moving smoothly. haze mixed in with the fog from time to time. as we head through the day, haze is the only downside to the forecast because look at these temperatures. i mean talking 76 in the north bay. 71 for san francisco. tri-valley, you'll be at 73 for your high today. even the south bay, 73 degrees. yes, this is unusually warm for this time of year. we're talking.

record heat. san jose, 72 today. livermore, 73. santa rosa, 74. oakland, 70 today. san francisco. now the thing to note, those are record numbers. the record in san jose for this time of year 69. we'll get above that by a couple of degrees. livermore expecting to tie a record. oakland, record today 68. yes, going well above that. again, it's because of this high pressure. yes, we send our thanks to that area of high pressure. keeping dry but unfortunately again weather story for this time of year should be rain and lots of. at least if we're not going to get rain, get outside and enjoy the nice sunshine. yes if you're like me, thinking about the beach, yeah, making plans already. monterey today 74. santa cruz 75. pacifica, 72. ocean beach, comfortable at 70. and even warmer numbers for tomorrow. notice ocean beach, tomorrow 73. santa cruz, 80. yeah, let that sink in for

january. all right. it's going to be nice across the bias we head through the weekend, next two days talking about record heat. a small decline in temperatures as we head towards tuesday and wednesday, more cloud cover starts to stream in. by wednesday, we could be talking about a few showers. a little bit of shower activity, not much. i'll show you futurecast. this is tuesday. a system coming in from the south. that's going to bring in subtropical moisture. along with another system to our north. both of those converge across the bay area. we'll see more cloud cover tuesday and for wednesday. unfortunately, for us, i don't think we're going to get more than a few light showers, maybe drizzle across the east bay, north bay, and across the mountainsides. other than that, kira, very warm this weekend. and a small decline in temperatures with maybe rain by wednesday. back to you. >> sounds good. be honest, even if it were snowing, you would be thinking about the beach. >> exactly. thanks. we have more ahead on "today in the bay." coming up, two alums of our bay

"today in the bay's" garvin thomas updates us on what previous bay area proud subjects are now doing. >> i love it, anytime i hear about connections that have been made between people who have been part of different bay area proud stories in the past, and i heard about just such a thing happening earlier this month. it's about two people, working together who have more than just doing good in common. >> it's going to be all right. you're a hero. continue doing what you're doing. >> oh. >> reporter: we introduced you to ricky earlier this month.

the once aspiring rap star's life changed when his late grandmother came to him in a dream and told him he should dress up as spider-man to lift t spirits of needy and sick children, what he did. well, superheroes and kids in need are both things barbara knows a lot about, too. we first met barbara in 2012, sewing capes to send to sick children. >> we have -- >> reporter: capes for here rose nonprofit continues to grow. and have paired with their first official superhero, ricky. the two made their first joint appearance sewing capes and lifting spirits at camp arroyo in livermore. a great update from sherry tobin, too the artist who held an earthquake art party in system. anyone could bring pieces of china, artwork, or anything that the napa earthquake smashed and turn remains into beautiful mosaics. the crowd also worked together

to create a statue covered in pieces broken by the quake. the angel was just installed at st. vinny's community garden and dedicated in memory of a late friend. can you remember anything you have ever done with a dollar? probably can't. >> reporter: we heard from robert freeman about the amazing continued success of one dollar for life. the los altos high school teacher started the charity in 2070 in which students ask nothing more than a dollar at a time. when we first talked to robert in 2012, one dollar for life helped to build 14 schools in 5 impoverished countries. they are now up to 54 projects in 8 countries, all $1 at a time. robert also tells me that kwanis international adopted his

energy that could be used in more productive ways that are sandblasting concrete, power washing walls. >> reporter: the holy cross lutheran church has been hit twice in recent days. as has the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. livermore police aren't taking it lightly. >> one of the churches, it was, you know, derogatory remarks about the church, about god, about heaven. >> reporter: >> we are classifying it as a hate crime. we're doing more to locate the suspects. >> we've lived across here almost ten years and never had any issues like this. this is a big deal. >> reporter: folks in the neighborhood are feeling rattled, too. they can't believe someone would target places that should be off-limits, houses of worship. >> churches especially, obviously they're going to do what they're going to do. for the sake of god itself and i just don't think they should be doing it at churches at all. >> reporter: the pastor of holy cross church says he's done a

star kevin johnson introduces the president as point guard of pennsylvania avenue. six bay area members were in attendance. president obama pledged his support to america's cities. >> what we know now is that successful cities and metropolitan areas end up being engines by which communities and states and ultimately nations succeed. >> the president went on to caution mayors not to be ideological about change but to focus on tangible results. tsa screeners are finding more americans trying to board airplanes with guns. tsa recovered a record number of firearms last year, get this, more than 2200. most of them were loaded. many of the passengers claimed they just forgot about them. officers say they found the most guns at dallas-ft. worth international. a showdown in the middle of

street between a man in a suit and thief carrying a machete. three thieves taking off after they hit a jewelry store in london. they got away with watches worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. a good samaritan chased after them. he tried to wrestle one of the thieves to the ground. the thief got away, as he waved around his machete. one suspect was arrested later. police recovered that machete which was at least two feet long. yikes. in other news, he coined the phrase "let's play two!" the baseball world is mourning the death of hall of famer ernie banks. he passed away at age 83. we take a look back at the life of the man known as mr. cub. >> reporter: ernie banks wasn't interested in baseball as a child. and didn't even play in high school. discovered by a negro league scout, banks signed with the kansas city monarchs in 1950.

then with the chicago cubs in 1953, becoming one of very few black players to make the major leagues without playing in minors. a shortstop, banks quickly established himself as a power hitter. >> he did it, ernie banks got number 500! >> reporter: excellent fielder as well, played all 19 seasons with the cubs, taking his place among the greats with 512 home runs. over 1600 rbi. two mvp awards and a gold glove. the man known as mr. cub never played on a championship cubs team. >> i used to dream about it every week, the world series, wake up and, god, what happened? >> reporter: always happy, banks retired as a player in 1971. he coached and taught baseball with the cubs' organization until his election into the baseball hall of fame in 1977.

taking a live, bright, sunshiny look at a quiet oracle arena. last night it was rocking as the sold-out crowd witnessed nba history. the warriors played host to northern california rivals, the sacramento kings, a night that neither klay thompson nor the fans will ever forget. let's go straight to the historic third quarter. thompson could not miss. he went a perfect 13 for 13 from the floor, including 9 shots from three-point range. klay would score a league-record 37 points in the quarter, break the old record at 33. he finished with 52 points in the game, as the warriors win again, 126-101. meanwhile, klay's dad michael is a lakers team broadcaster. tracking his son after the lakers played in san antonio. this is a picture tweeted out of the proud dad watching it all unfold on his phone.

welcome back now. 7:45 the time. start off with the weather forecast. it's going to be a warm day. record heat hitting the bay area later this afternoon because of high pressure keep things really

warm. in place what we have, our offshore winds you see that on our satellite map. clouds to the north going to the northeast. around that area of high pressure, clockwise rotation, clouds moving in and offshore wind. as we head through the day, it's the offshore wind going to make all of the world of a difference. and that's because when you get that offshore wind it's a dry wind and a warming wind. so we have spare the air today from the north bay and the south bay. that's where we're going to see the worst air quality. because of that bad air quality, it's hazy out there, and that's what we're finding now across the entire bay area. hazy skies. no fog to report of anywhere. even san francisco, we've got a little haze and across the tri-valley. highs going to be comfortable. 73 south bay. 71 for the peninsula. 7 3 for the tri-valley, 71 san francisco. warm spot, that's the north bay at 76. i want to take you to the south bay now. see that haze i was talking about and really that low layer

of haze across our lower part of the atmosphere, that's going to make for unhealthy air quality the rest of the day. keep that in mind. that's the top story for weather headlines. high surf to deal with today. talking about waves that did reach anywhere from 10 to 20 feet. keep that in mind if you're hitting the beach today and tomorrow. and then record heat's with us not only today but tomorrow as well. and slight decline in temperatures as we head towards monday. high pressure off the coast, continue to drive winds offshore. futurecast doesn't show really anything in terms of cloud cover. but clear all day long, again, haze going to be out there and start the day tomorrow with another clear day but unfortunately another hazy day on the way with offshore winds in place. because it's going to sob warm today and tomorrow, you might be thinking about the beach. monterey, 74. santa cruz, 75 today. 80 for tomorrow. and even in the city, ocean beach, 70.

73 degrees. yes, it is going to be really nice and warm over the next couple of days. then we start to fall off and bring in that chance of rain. it's not a big system. maybe enough to get the ground wet and that's about. but notice temperature trend over the next few days every day, as we start the workweek, monday, tuesday, wednesday, temperatures fall off. cloud cover starts to increase. next storm system starts to take shape, expected to move in tuesday and wednesday. this is tuesday morning. futurecast does show light showery activity across the central valley, off the coast of monterey, that's a weak system moving up the coastline from the south. as it moves up, towards the upper rockies, another system coupled with that, a cold front, going to slide in. tuesday and wednesday, we'll get a good chance of cloud cover. up fortunately, the map doesn't paint a lot of green. the system moving through, not going to have a lot of rain. i think we'll maybe see few light showers across the east bay, across the higher elevations and maybe a bit of drizzle across the valley floor.

everyone sharing on facebook, twitter, instagram. but it took this week's gravitational pull of the sun and moon to reveal a sight few of us ever see. ♪ >> reporter: every day thousands of visitors from around the world comb the western tip of san francisco, walking the remains of central bath, visiting the cliff house, and ocean beach. >> really nice. >> reporter: but there's a piece of this terrain that is rarely ever visited. >> i've never been this close. >> hardly ever seen. >> the end of the line. >> reporter: the same, rare gravitational pull the moon and sun that causes what's known as king tides creates lower than normal tides, and on monday afternoon the ocean retreated far enough to lift the curtain on a hidden beach. >> so walking around this area is really a rarity because

normally it doesn't pull back so far. >> reporter: in between the cliff house and seal rock. >> all the way down from santa rosa. >> reporter: to walk a beach that rarely exists. >> usually you cannot be standing here. you'd be six, seven, ten feet of watter. >> dogs scampered, children played, people climbed where they normally can't, in the shadow of the great cliff. >> never able to come down here. >> you can see where all of the moss and the green has grown on the rock there. i haven't been to the back of the cliff house in 30-plus years. >> reporter: tides think low occur several times a year, but often during the night. the unusual daytime phenomenon prided a different angle to view this well-worn world. >> an artist painting down here by one of the rocks. >> reporter: a small window to what felt look a secret land. >> it does have a strange feeling you're somewhere where you shouldn't be. >> reporter: plenty of photographic evidence to prove
