. a very good monday morning to you. peek outside atop san bruno looking down city by the bay hoping for a nice start to our work week. it is 4:42 right now. happening today the stanford swimmer accused of raping a woman on campus is set to face a judge in court. >> nannette miranda joins us live from palo alto. what is expected to happen? good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's doubtful that the stanford, the former stanford swim team star will say much in court today. it's just an arraignment where defendants are informed of their charges and asked to enter a plea. 19-year-old brock turner faces five felony counts related to the rape of an uncourse of business and intoxicated woman who is not a stanford student. they were at an on campus fraternity party january 18th. according to a report brock admitted to sexually fondling her after having nine chock drinks but denies raping her.

in a statement she downed four whiskey shots in less than two hours. two cyclists ran into the alleged outdoor attack and chased turner down, holding him until police arrived. turner withdrew from the stanford university campus last month. he is going to be arraigned at 9:00 a.m. this morning at this courthouse. if convicted, he faces 14 to 30 years in prison. live in palo alto, nannette miranda for "today in the bay." >> thank you very much nannette. police have until tomorrow to give prosecutors the case against a man accused of leaving a suitcase full of body parts. close trend of andress is not the killer. he was arrested on saturday after police spotted him onsaur valence video near the suitcase. an actor who played a power ranger on television is in jail this morning accused of stabbing his roommate to death with a

sword. police say ricardo medina stabbed his roommate during an argument that turned physical n los angeles county. after the stabbing, medina called police and waited at the apartment where he was arrested. medina played the red power ranger in the 1990s tv series. today san leandro city leader also vote on a plan to equip police with a new state-of-the-art vehicle. they were awarded a grant from homeland security to arm a bearcat personnel carrier. the car would streamline medical treatment of people in high-risk situations. the vehicle will increase -- critics responded the vehicle will increase militarization of the police force. refinery workers in the north bay are taking to the picket lines instead of going to work this morning protesting what they consider unfair contracts. >> the ma facility is one of a handful of refineries on strike. for more on what it means for the country and economy, landon

dowdy is live at cnbc world headquarters, happy monday. >> they're trying to pressure oil companies to agree to a national contract covering workers at 63 plants. this is the first industry walkout we've seen since 1980. that strike lasted three months. the strike affects plants that account for about 10% of the country's oil refining. the united steelworkers union which represents the oil workers says royal dug shell has halted talks after the union rejected the company's latest proposal. shell would like to restart the discussions. the company and other plant operators activated strike contingency plans to keep their factors operational. guys, back over to you. >> we'll see how it affects capacity. thank you very much, landon. a follow-up to the newly released batched e-mail sent between pg&e and the state public utilities commission. 65,000 e-mails were released,

72 degrees in the south bay. 71 degrees on the peninsula today and 72 degrees out in the tri valley, lovely conditions in san francisco with ten degrees above average. 68 degrees is the forecasted high and as we get into the middle and end of the week, big changes. lots of rain it looks like but only for parts of the bay area. i don't think we're going to see a lot of that red and yellow down here in the south bay but look at this. atmospheric river tap, some very good looking rain starting on thursday at 11:00 a.m., so during our midday broadcast we'll likely be tracking showers. we take it into the future, stop it again for you, friday, better chance for rain in the south bay, and actually potentially measuring because where you see the red over san francisco, one to two inches of rain in the city, whereas maybe we'll get a quarter inch to half of an inch of rain in san jose. by sunday, you might already be trying to make your weekend plans. i hope you got out there this weekend. it looks like the rain will linger into sunday as well and then there's more on the way behind it. we've got a lot to go over this

infants and toddlers contain too much sugar and salt. researchers looked at more than 1,000 dinners, snacks, juices and desserts made for children. 41% of infant mixed grains and fruits included at least one added sugar. 72% of toddler dinners were also considered high in sodium. got to read those labels. >> it's important. laura you mentioned the fact lots of people were probably up last night watching the football game. this was a back-and-forth affair. lot riding on this for the fans. some are waking up this morning reaching for their cell phones and figuring out it's either not there or damaged. >> i a new study finds sports fans have a potential of harming their phones. >> one in ten adults report they've damaged a smartphone while watching a game. 15% admitted the incident happened during a fit of emotion. >> i wonder what the percentage is of men and the percentage is

here, not really flying through but they're moving through at a nice clip. this is the fast track lanes. the cash lanes on either side the typical reason they have backup they've not fully opened all of the cash toll takers, at about 5:00, five more minutes. as we look at your map, the east shore approaching there the maze and folks coming off the walnut creek interchange no problems there and no scheduled maintenance for any roadways. slowing down for westbound 580 off of 205, the new volume of traffic starting to build a little bit of the altamont pass and coming into livermore. no surprises for i-80 or the rest of the tri valley. the bottom of your screen is the south bay. san jose flowing in nicely, northbound is the commute direction. all directions through san jose and also along the peninsula are moving at the speed limit. live look at san jose shows you how things are for 101. this is 101 north of 680. last week fog impeding our view from the close camera, closer to the roadway today.
