good morning. we have three breaking news stories on early today, a deadly plane crash in taiwan captured on a car's dash cam. so far 23 confirmed dead. at least seven people are dead after a new york commuter plane crashed into an suv. jordan executes two jihadists in apparent retaliation death of a jordanian pilot. there were 58 people on board and 23 are confirmed dead so far according to state media, the plane was going to an airport just off the southeast coast of china. air nattics officials say it was an atr 72 similar to this one. a short haul regional craft. no word yet on a cause. officials says the aircraft itself was nine months old and completed a check early last week. the rescue for survivors is still under way. ntsb investigators are heading to the scene of a deadly commuter train accident north of new york city. seven people were killed in that crash. it happened at peak rush hour last night. reports say the female driver of an suv stopped on the tracks. the crossing gate came down she got out of the car and went back in. that's when she was struck. the third rail buckled and went right through the first car of the train. the suv driver and six train passengers died making it the

deadliest accident in metro north history. about 650 people were aboard and most were safely evacuated by bus. 12 were taken to westchester medical center and that is where we find nbc's raheem ellis. good morning. what is the latest there? >> reporter: good morning, dara. it's been a night of high anxiety for the families waiting to get word on the condition of their loved ones. we're hee at the number one trauma center in the area very close to the crash site. i'll have my cameraman pan over. overnight we got a chance to go inside the hospital here where some families and loved ones were waiting for word on the conditions of those 12 passengers who were brought here. we were told that ten of them were seriously injured. we don't know exactly what their condition is or how they fared overnight. we're hoping we'll get some word from that as the sun comes up this morning. we should point out that the governor governor andrew cuomo

of new york he was on site at that crash overnight. and one of the things he did was he tweeted out a message saying the tragic crash of the metro north train is a painful reminder how precious life is and my prayers are with those who lost loved ones. the governor also pointed out there's something to be remembered and that is that there were hundreds of people who did manage to walk away from this crash and they are thinking the day about how lucky they actually were when they were involved in something that they probably do all the time and the difficulty here is that with no warning, they found themselves in the middle of a tragic accident. and when they were just hoping that they were going to be making it home okay and on time. that's not how their night ended. dara back to you. >> rehema ellis, thanks so much for that update. to jar dan's payback. the country executed two convicted jihadists hours after

a fighter was reportedly caged and torched by isis. here is correspondent richard engel. >> reporter: locked in a meddle cage doused in fuel the young jordanian pilot moments before being burned alive. the most savage act yet from the group known for its shocking brutality. in jordan relatives could not contain their disgust and grief and fury. the pilot was first lieutenant mu'ath al kasasbeh 26 just married in july an elite member of jordanian society. he was captured the day before christmas after ejecting from his f-16 on a mission to attack isis in syria, part of the u.s.-led coalition. joe dan's king abdullah a close u.s. ally at the white house before cutting short his washington visit. earlier on jordanian television he called the murder cowardly terror by a group with no

reacting to jordan's response? >> reporter: we're going to get more likely today from the white house on what isis has done the president called barbaric and we'll likely hear more about that here in the next couple hours. the president's nominee for defense secretary, ashton carter is on cap doll hill for his confirmation hearing. isis is going to be a key topic. how is the bill tear going to continue this campaign against them? we've already heard from the pentagon. they said, i'm quoting, nobody is letting off the gas in terms of letting up on the campaign against isis. there is concern we still do believe there's one american hostage. we haven't learned a lot about her, other than she's a 26-year-old final mail aide worker. some experts think because isis hasn't paraded her in front of the cameras, because we haven't heard a lot about her, that it's likely they may not execute her as they've done other american and other hostages because it may of fend their own people to execute a female hostage.

that comes from when the moisture -- the source comes all the way from the high want islands. this cold front is kind of cutting that off a little bit. atmospheric river is probably the term closedest to describe what we're going to deal with thursday night and into friday. for the next seven days it's predicting, san francisco, 2 1/2, portland three, seattle almost five. this is a possibility of six inches plus in northern california coast and southern oregon coast and also around the puget sound pretty hefty rainfall. flood watches have been issued for the north bay area around san francisco. snow levels this is a pretty warm storm. snow levels unfortunately are going to be pretty high. today again, you're okay just rain in the northwest. it's tomorrow we watch the big storm coming portland,

we want to bring you up to date on three breaking stories overnight. in taiwan look at this dramatic dash cam video. it appears to show a plane crash. officials say up to 23 people are dead and several others injured after the plane crashed into a river. shortly after takeoff the plane clipped a bridge and crashed into this shallow water. there were 58 people on board at the time. the rescue effort is still under way. seven people have died after a computer train slammed into an suv just outside new york city. another 12 people are injured. needless witnesses say a railroad crossing came down on top of an suv which was stopped on the track. outrage is growing over

seaing following the apparent burning death of a jordanian burning death. jordan had been considering a prison swap for the pilot, but authorities wanted proof the pilot was still alive. leading the news from nbc news house gop approved full repeal of obamacare again. it's the 67th time republicans have attempted to undo at least part of obamacare and the fourth time the house has passed a full repeal of the bill. according to gop aides, president obama pledged to veto any attempt to rollg back the affordable care act. lance armstrong is accused of lying to police about his involvement in an accident with two parked cars. police reportedly say his girlfriend originally agreed to take the blame to avoid getting him national attention. there's been no comment from armstrong or his attorneys.
