before round two hits. good morning. thanks so much for joining us. >> on today in the bay, keeping an eye on the radar. bob redell is at a at&t park where fans are camped out for giants fan fest. anthony slaughter is here to plan the rest of your day and the weekend. >> good morning, ladies. we had quite a friday across the area. start off with rainfall totals. santa cruz mountains, over six inches of rain just in the 48-hour period. lexington reservoir, four inches. sebastopol, four minutes. most bay area cities, urban areas picked up between one and three inches just yesterday alone. look at these storm reports. we're talking over at least three dozen storm reports in the bay area. you have the north bay. you can see trees down, flooded roads. even in san francisco down in

the peninsula, south bay. the east bay even through the tri-valley. there wasn't a place untouched by the storm. right now a few lingering showers out there. most of us waking up dry with lots of cloud cover. the santa cruz were mountains, we are seeing a few light showers. that's the general trend through the day. temperatures very mild right now. in the 60s. later on there is still a chance for a brief passing shower through the day. but i do think most of it will stay dry. a good mix of sun and clouds. we are talking about another round of heavy rain, light nini and thunder. we'll talk more about that coming up in my next report. back to you. anthony, thank you. the storm kept tree crews busy in san francisco. the rain and wind too much causing limbs to snap and trees to fall in many parts of the city. looking a little bit better, though, where our today in the bay bob redell is live at at&t

park. some people camped out all night. i see a huge crowd behind you. >> good morning to you, vicky, good morning to you, kira. this is a break that a anthony and other meteorologists had been predicting, which is welcomed for the hundreds of giants fans waiting here outside at&t park for fan fest to start a little bit later this morning. compare what you are seeing right now to the scene we saw several hours earlier throughout the city when rain and storm winds whipped throughout the neighborhood with gusts expected to have hit 50 to 60 miles per hour. as you can see it knocked down trees. took out power in some of the areas. the national weather service issued a 24-hour wind advisory, which expired a few hours ago. some of the giants fans that you were alluding to, they started to wait in line in the soaking rain so when the gates opened later this morning, they will be the first to catch a glimpse of

their favorite players, assuming that drenching does cause them to catch their vest first. >> i have a a jacket. and my hat. umbrella. i'm well protected. >> this is the 22nd annual fan fest. it's basically a kickoff to spring training and the 2015 giants baseball season. fans get a chance to meet the players, walk on the field, see all three world series trophies. this event is free to the public. gates open at 10:00 this morning here at at&t park, runs through 3:00. and based on the crowd, we've got a crowd around the corner and down the street to the other entrance to the park. there are several hundred people out here this morning. i'm assuming they will have a much larger crowd if it's anything like years past. live outside at&t park, bob

redell. luckily it's drying out at least now. fire crews in alamo spent the night on a roof of a home trying to cut up branches from a large tree that came crashing down. it happened not far from the shopping plaza. good news there, no one was hurt. we want to give you a live look right now at the drive across the san mateo bridge from the foster city side. a little hazy. as anthony was saying, temperatures warm and rather ugly as we get ready for round two of the storm. the peninsula not spared from hours of relentless rain. entire parking lots under water. this is what it looked like in los altos. struggling to make it through inches of standing water. despite the headaches, most neighbors say they welcome the rain. >> it helps the environment. >> turned off the sprinklers and let mother nature do its work.

>> strong wind also kept pg&e crews busy across the bay area. they said they will be working day and night because as the ground gets more saturated, more trees could foul on power lines lead to go more outages. the north bay was the most impacted. more than 3,500 customers this morning are still without power. the storm knocked out power for 360 folks. 420 homes remain in the dark in the peninsula. and south bay, 310 without power this morning, 70 in the east bay. now to a pretty unbelievable story coming out of this storm. take a look at this video is. a tree branch came smashing through the front windshield of this car. a young girl was sitting right there in the passenger seat. and amazingly, she wasn't hurt. liz was driving her kids to school along glen arbor road when strong winds knocked down a

in san jose right now, police and fire investigators are combing through a burped out mobile home trying to figure out where the flames may have started in a fatal fire. it broke out at 2:00 this morning near capital expressway and aborn road. when firefighters got to the scene, flames were shooting into the air. they found an elderly woman dead in a back bedroom. >> the cause is under investigation. when we arrived, it was such a heavy volume of fire. it will take daylight to help us dig through and find out exactly where that origin was. >> firefighters say it a appears she was the only person inside the home at the time. still ahead, disturbing details about a deadly hit and run in the south bay. we now know the victim was just a teenager plus, palo alto police hoping a new video will help unlock clues in a cold case. stay with us. what's that thing?

welcome back to you on this saturday morning. you're taking a live look outside at at&t park. where fans, hundreds, if not thousands, are lining up to get into giants fan fest today. luckily, we have a little bit of a break in the rain before it returns tomorrow. people will be able to get outdoors and enjoy that ahead of spring training new this morning, an armed robbery suspect is now behind bars. san jose police say people called 911 reporting seeing a man committing crimes on 1st street, 6:00 last night. police say when they got there, the man became violent. they say they were able to detain him without using force. this morning palo alto police are hoping new video will help generate leads in a cold case that haunted the department for 15 years. maria was shot in the head in front of the now q cafe on alma

street. she was there celebrating her 21st birthday with family and friends. there was a group of 20 people on the sidewalk at the time of that shooting, but no one identified the gunman and the weapon was never found. the new video shows a re-enactment of that night from the view of first responders. >> we have not forgotten this case. we have not forgotten maria. >> at one point in the video, a message appears saying "someone knows the truth about what happened that night. is it you?" there's a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. well, up next on today in the bay, sierra finally seeing snow this morning. what you need to know if you're heading to tahoe today the snow continues to fall in the higher elevations of the sierra. showers on our local radar. we'll break down your saturday forecast and the next round of rain and you&what you need to know to prepare for the next round of rain coming up next.

new details now on the deadly hit and run. investigators say the body found next to a burning car was a 14-year-old girl. the santa clara medical county examiner's office identified her as cynthia ramirez. as of now police don't know if the 14-year-old was the one driving the car. but the car she was in hit a garbage truck and drove away. a few blocks away the girl's body was found lying next to the car. the driver of the garbage truck is cooperating with the police. we have a winter storm warning for those of you traveling in the sierra. 7,000 feet is expecting one to two inches of snow. there is a chance of flooding, which will help flood our reservoirs. more heavy showers and gusty winds rolling in. this is a live look at real-time doppler radar. now a live look at san jose

where temperatures are warm. it's kind of humid out there this morning. it's a mild morning. a lot of cloud coverage. and meteorologist anthony slaughter is telling us if rain will return. >> it feels really nice outside. you step out and think, man, it's going to be chilly. you realize it's very mild. humid out there as well. it's all because of the cloud cover that's overhead. acts as a blanket in the overnight hours. it is mild but still damp this morning. keep that in mind as you do traveling across the bay area. as we head through the day today, a mix of sun and clouds. we are going to see more sunshine. however, every now and again, a brief passing shower. tomorrow, around 2:00, right around this time tomorrow in fact. i want to start you off live with doppler radar. showers not only across the bay area but down towards the sierra, bakersfield and fresno. just a little bit closer you can see a lot of the bay area is dry

this morning. it's just the far southern regions of our viewing area near santa cruz. one little cell making its way towards the shore there. the mountains will see the shower activity through the day. morgan hill, gilroy. a lot all of us will see the shower activity today. when we do see it, it will move through quickly. if you have outdoor plans, i say go for it. we are close to 60 degrees in every micro climate. we are going to see temperatures back into the mid-60s. across the entire bay area, we are going to be looking at just brief showers. that's really the key here today with that sunshine in place. temperatures not too bad. above average, even with the cloud cover. of course you heard about this earlier, giants fan fest. i think if you are going to be heading down there, at&t park will be a good mix of cloud cover from noon to 2:00, 3:00.

skies will open up and see a little bit of sunshine. 62 expected at a&t park. indiefest february 6th through the 20th. we are talk building a good mix of sun and clouds. tomorrow definitely the day. so take heed. more stormy weather is on the way. i'm going to show you that storm system right now. area of low pressure up towards portland, seattle, very heavy. they are still dealing with flooded roads and rising creeks there. you'll notice this batch of cloud cover. that's the move through today. and then this area of cloud cover off to the west. this is what we're concerned about. because just like what we saw yesterday, we're expecting heavy rain, lightning and strong winds. yesterday in sacramento alone, they would over 200 lightning strikes in the course of a couple of hours. this next batch that's headed our way has the potential to do the very same thing we saw yesterday. let's take to future cast.

a lot of us are going to see a good mix of sun and clouds. the cloud cover comes through and produces a brief shower. by 4:00, 5:00, everybody is going to be dry. but tomorrow morning, 7:00, 8:00, another heavy line of rain will push towards the the coastline. santa rosa, you'll see it first, up to the north bay, napa. by 10:00, the entire bay area. by 11:00 and 12:00, things will subside. in the afternoon, just a few spotty showers. even though we are going to see strong rain tomorrow, the wind will start to pick up. by 4:00, 6:00 in the morning at the coastline. look at how this map explodes. gusts anywhere between 40 and 60 miles per hour just like what we saw yesterday. so if you would trees come down, even if you had the large limbs fall across the bay area, just keep in mind that could happen tomorrow. so to recap everything, here it is. the storm, strong winds, that's going to be the first thing we

see. between 4:00 and 6:00 at the coast. between 7:00 in the morning, and 5:00 in the evening, the winds will gust up to 55 miles per hour. the heavy rain is going to be with us tomorrow morning between 7:00 and noon. after that, we'll have to deal with the aftermath. flooded roads, even the potential for pour outages. keep all of that in mind as we move through the day. now is the time to plan. especially if you have a porch, lawn furniture, you want to secure that stuff down, bring in things that could break. this next storm system will rival what we saw yesterday. ladies, back over to you. anthony, good morning. good things to keep in mind as people head out on to the roads and things to put away right now while it's dry. >> absolutely. i have family visiting. we had sunshine last week. they're from minnesota. i kept telling them it will be beautiful. now it's raining. >> all right. we have much more ahead on today in the bay. keep it right here. coming up -- >> i know when i wake up in the

one down, one to go. another round of wet weather makes its way into town. live across the bay area. tkpwlden gate bridge, palo alto and san jose. our today in the bay team is keeping its eye on the radar this morning. bob redell is at at&t park for today's fanfest. good morning, anthony. >> good morning to you, ladies. it has been quite a stormy past couple of days i should say. the past 24 to 48 hours, we have seen enormous amounts of rain across the bay area. let's start off with some of the highest totals. mount umunhum, seven inches.

lowe's altos, two inches. the cities around the bay picked up one and three inches. higher elevations is where we saw a good amount. the past 24 hours just over at least three dozen storm reports. many of them, trees down, power lines toppled and flooded roadways. now we are starting to dry out just a little bit. no rain on the radar across most of the bay area. showers towards gilroy, morgan hill, santa cruz mountains, watsonville. this is the general case as we head through the morning hours. at least until about noon. after that, a good mix of sun and clouds. temperatures very mild. 61 in san francisco. 60 into south bay. a good mix of sun and clouds

these are fans who should deserve at least a medal or maybe a talking to. take a look. this is last night. you had a handful of them waiting outside at&t park in the rain, waiting for the gates to open at 10:00 this morning. not sure what benefit they get by being first but they have a decent story for their grandkids. remember the time i stood out in the rain and got soaked and you didn't. the storm not only brought lots of rain but high winds as well. take a look at the number of trees taken down like this tpaoeubg us in the mission. another one here at amazon playground. no reports of anyone hurt in those instances. >> i've never seen this. i walk every day.

this morning the parents of an american hostage who isis says was killed in the jordanian

air strike say they remain hopeful their daughter is still alive. they're asking the terror group to contact them directly. 26-year-old kayla mueller, an aid worker, was captured by isis militants in syria two years ago. they claim she was killed by an air strike launched by jordan. the group offered no concrete proof. the only evidence was a picture of a flattened building. isis said none of their militants were killed in the blast. they are working to verify the claim, but some believe it's an attempt by isis to create distension between the u.s. and its coalition. >> that's what this is designed to do, to doubt our own resolve and doubt the resolve of other countries in this alliance. >> mueller is from arizona. they sent a private messages in hopes of learning information about their daughter.

happening today a man struck and killed by a truck driven by former rap mogul suge knight will be laid to rest this afternoon. funeral services for 55-year-old terry carter are scheduled for noon in los angeles. he died and another man injured last friday, when knight struck him in compton. he left the scene but turned himself in the next day. suge knight is due back in court on monday. up next on today in the bay, earthquake safety in the classroom. are you and your children safe when you drop them off at school. hazards we discovered that will surprise you coming up. in the bay area we are finding that showers have turned off quite a bit. the heavy rain is letting up. still a few showers on the radar. we will break down your saturday forecast and bring you the next round of heavy rain headed our way coming up after this.

back now. 7:42 the time. live look at san francisco bay. you can see sunrise coming up. we still have lots of cloud cover, lots of fog around the bay area. this is all going to burn out. as we head through the morning hours, a steady stream of cloud cover that will head our way. it may produce a brief shower activity. i don't think it will be heavy rain. what does fall will be brief and move through quickly. nothing in the north bay. no rain in the east bay. nothing in san francisco, peninsula. san that cruz, watsonville, down 101 from morgan hill and gilroy. that's where the rain is now. as i mentioned, brief showers today. overall, a mix of sun and clouds through the day. how fitting. you can see our san francisco cam with a little orange for the giants fan fest this morning. you'll noticed notice the temperatures are mild. nothing cold. temperatures near 60 degrees

right now. and later on this afternoon we will see a mix of sun and clouds. temperatures not that bad. very comfortable. 66 in the south bay. 67 for the peninsula. 66 for san francisco. 65 for the north bay. we will see a good mix of sun and clouds, every now and again a brief passing shower. we are not done with the rain today for today. our dewpoints are way up there. temperatures in the '60s. dewpoints right there. we are looking humid air. sit going westbound with us all day today. as you step outside, you will feel the moisture in the atmosphere, something we don't typically talk about in california. so now we have this onshore wind coming in. steady stream of cloud cover into the bay area. that is making its way out of here. but we have another storm system. this is forming across the pacific. it will bring in heavy rain and lightning with it as well.

a few lightning strikes up the coastal waters yesterday. most was across sacramento. i think we will have a heightened risk for lightning and strong winds. a lot of this activity will come through tomorrow right around this time. i want to put you into future cast so you can see. hit or miss shower activity. even by 5:00, most of us will be dry now. here's the deal. by tomorrow morning, this line of heavy rain is going to move through the bay area. yellow and oranges that you see there, that's the heavy rain like we saw yesterday. up towards the north bay, about 8:00, stretching all the way to san francisco, the east bay and, tri valley and the south bay. by 12:00 tomorrow morning, a lot of stuff will move out of the region. 11:00 and 12:00 we will be done with the heavy rain. then you have to deal with the aftermath. tomorrow the winds will pick up all the way to 5:00, 6:00 in the evening. 6:00 in the morning, strong gusty winds along the coast.

but not too bad for our inland areas. then as the rain falls, we move through the day, a lot of heavy rain will move through. the winds will continue to pick up. winds in excess of 40, 50 miles per hour. so just to recap this next storm that's headed our way. strong winds, 4:00 to 6:00. 7:00 to 5:00, all day long winds will gust in the bay area. the aftermath is what we will have to deal with. flooded roads, power outages with power poles coming down and trees toppling as well. bring in the porch furniture and clean out the gutters. tomorrow will be another repeat performance of yesterday. >> anthony, thank you. yeah, last night we heard a bunch of stuff blowing around our backyard. it was covers blowing off the

chairs. it was really windy out there. >> all week long we have been looking at disaster preparedness across the bay area. this morning we turn our attention to your child's school yeah. when you drop off your kids monday morning, do you know if they will be safe if there's an earthquake? >> i know it's very scary, okay? i know. i know. we have an earthquake. >> when napa earthquake struck in the middle of the night, schools were empty. but daylight revealed chaos inside the classroom. >> this was the most violent thing i have ever experienced in my close to 30 years in the fire service. >> photo after photo shows the rarely seen aftermath of an earthquake in schools. classrooms with no kids in dangerous disarray. >> we are incredibly. >> structural engineer maryan

we asked the california department of education to sit down to talk to us. they declined saying in an e-mail, we would certainly respond to your request if we were the regulating agency in this instance but we are not. trouble is there is no regulating agency for classroom furniture. then there's the earthquake that shook the area four years ago. >> if anybody had been standing under this they obviously would have been very seriously injured. >> when the underside of this overhang fell, it sheered out windows and blocked classroom doors. that falls under the jurisdiction of the division of the state architect but only during time of construction and during renovation. this school was built in the 1960s. >> again, that was not during school hours. that was when there were no students there. so the fact that every time -- one of these times it's not going to happen in the middle of the night. >> and that's the scenario that

but another storm is on its way. enjoy this dry-out while you can. new details this morning. house officials say the number of confirmed measles cases in california is now in the triple digits. 103 across the state. while that number rose this week, the number of cases here in the bay area remain the same at 14. they say it is the state's worst measles outbreak in two decades. earlier this week, two lawmakers introduced a new bill that would make it harder for parents to opt out of getting their kids vaccinated much more ahead on today in the bay. we'll take a look at the weekend forecast with our meteorologist anthony slaughter. keep it right here.
