big weekend. >> friday was a big day. we picked up a lot of rainfall on friday. a nice dry break for most of saturday. drizzly and sunday it came in. combined totals upwards at a foot of rain north of gurnville. we had 3 inches in places like saratoga. we'll continue to see light showers on and off rain. between 2:00 and 3:00 is when things will start to dry out. them we have a really nice day coming your way. stop that clock for you at noon. looking good in the low 60s. the storm system was really warm. and we round out the day in the mid 60s. we'll tell you how much rain you'll see in your microclimate. but here's mike inouye. >> still slick near 101 as you

approach the connecter. we have reports of a spinout. no major injuries, that's good news. san jose and silicon valley area. looking at speed. pretty typical this kind of morning. lojanda is further north. of course that hillside, trees might be leaning. no major slowing but another crash in livermore and get a live look at this. the bay bridge where the wind is a factor. for most of the bridges but no problems, guys. back you to. >> got a shaky camera. new this morning an antioch team is in juvenile hall accused of kidnapping and raping a domino's delivery driver. >> it happened yesterday, as a woman delivered a pizza to a homonym. the police say a 17-year-old boy forced her back into the delivery car at gunpoint.

he made her drive to an undisclosed location where officers say he raped her. officers arrested the teen in the same home pe asked for the piz z pizza to be delivered. . and a new twist in the suitcase full of body reports. the man died over the weekend? >> reporter: that's right. as you said, laura, police confirming over the weekend that he died after admitting himself to a hospital on saturday. the cause of his death still has not been released. it was just last tuesday night when andres walked free accompanied by san francisco public defender who had his arm around his client, as you can see. the district attorney has said in his statement that his office simply did not have enough

evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. police saw the suitcase with the torso and leg inside as well as body parts nearby near 11th and mission, two weeks ago. surveillance footage showed a man identified as andres pulling a suitcase and they arrested him shortly after after an anonymous tip that led to a tenderloin apartment. investigators were working a lead that it might be his former roommate who has been missing for some time. even with the death of who was the prime suspect, police still work this case with the d.a.'s office and many questions, including, who that body belonged to. live from san francisco this morning. >> a police officer was suspend affidavit his gun was stolen by a prostitute. the kensington police sergeant

paid a prostitute to come to his reno hotel room. after he had fallen asleep she allegedly stole gun, hand gicuf and pistol. the gun ended up in the hands of a pimp who accidently shot himself in the leg. trying to keep that straight. now to the weather. >> crews managed to reopen the lanes of highway 1 in sonoma county after the road was closed for 24 hours overnight. take a look at this. workers hood clean up more than 1,000 gallons that spilled when a tanker overturned yesterday. hopefully no one was hurt in that accident as well. >> that was not a bit of kay cro chaos unleashed. >> let's check in today with bob redell where home ens are just starting to get their power

back. >> reporter: that's right. you can see in the view that the lights behind me indicate that everyone, most everyone, on the peninsula, including redwood city, do have their power back on with the exception of 100 customers. redwood city and ince la took a pretty good hit in yesterday's storm not only in terms of power outages but flooding as well. this is a two-hour backup around noon yesterday. causing delays of up to 30 minutes. chp was very busy as well, dealing with drivers who should have been driving carefully but instead ended up in spinouts and accidents. there had been hundreds of pg&e customers without power. but you can most of those neighborhoods are coming back on like this one which was not supposed to be restored until 6:00 but they had their energy

restored. and soil was too saturated for the roots to keep this tree standing. reporting live from redwood city, bob redell "today in the bay." >> thanks very much. we hope you made it a safe weekend. there's good parts to this that the rain totals should be pumped up. >> my kids are putting out bucket because they wanted to measure it as well, christina. >> we got significant rain totals. really interesting, coming from p two stores, we're tracking the highest totals as you can imagine, the north bay venado over a foot of rain, 13.72. still getting our totals in. we're calculating them like crazy. 7.6 it 2 in the saratoga hills. lafayette, picked 5 inches of rain up. menlo park, 4 inches. obviously, wherever you live

your various microclimates make a big difference how much rain you receive with a storm system like this. everybody picked up at least an inch of rain. that's a great story to tell this morning and we're still tracking light showers on your radar as we head throughout the morning hours. p count on slick condition, debris likely caused by pretty fierce wind. that's starting to subside as we speak. showers will ramp up, especially north bay. not exacting much activity south of the golden gate bridge. 2:00, 3:00 clearing, temperature in the low to mid 60s and a big warming trend coming your way as we get near tomorrow and the rest of the week. stick around. i'll show you if your city is fair game for the 70s as we head for wednesday and valentine's weekend. you know what, mike we don't want you to forget it b it. >> no. my daughter is reminding me over an over that we need to get stuff for mom. i said remind mom about me, too.

>> looking at north bay where traffic flows smoothly. we're not forgetting anybody. look at this. we had rain in patches of the north bay, pointing out spots where we see puddling. we have slick roadways and glow to the lights. we're showing you the north bay in general. still a slower drive in part because of slicker conditions but you're still at the speed limit for the most part. looking at green highlighting there. north of the bay bridge where you have weather advisories, as well. green mean us have rain in slick spots in places like dean blow ran diablo will be gusty at times. we average out in the san francisco side and oakland side. we had earlier, big backups coming from tracily is a major concern for most of our viewers, now all the traffic is flowing

towards ailty mont a toward ailltimont. again, slick condition, so we had an earlier spinout, north of 87 just before you get to the 101 connecter. there's paperwork being done on the shoulder highway 9, reports of mud slippage. we're watching many spots as the morning continues. freemont, southbound 880 with head lights, very light, easy drive right now and this flag shows you that wind that's illustrated, again, the wind advisory for the san mateo, richmond and golden gate bridge. >> a lot of spots to keep your eyes on this morning. thank you very much, mike. we don't think your wife has forgotten about you. stay with us as we track the storm all morning long.

here through the 6:00 hour as well. we have really great stories to tell. cloverdaily. loma prieta. and the highest totals came in. sonoma county. i can tell you it's impressive for a single storm to drop a foot of rain on the bay area. that's what happened. showing a live look at the bay bridge, shaking from time to time, we have lingering wind. the wind will drop off as we head throughout the day and showers will deteriorate as well. typically when i a system moves out and another moves in, we have tight pressure grading. and that's the story of the day. a little bit of wind, lingering rain and all of this is racing off to tahoe where the snow levels are down to 6500 feet. that's where we needed to be where the resorts accumulate significant snowfalls. i'll show you what we have throughout the day today. temperatures mostly in the 50s.

i'll show you the hour by hour forecast at lunch time. climb into the upper 60s in north bay. watch this, between noon and 3:00 p.m. temperatures will jump into the mid 60s. south bay, 64. uniform temperatures court siff that storm. i don't want to say cold by any means. it was a warm weather maker. temperatures start to warm up significantly. thursday we're at 75 degree and this warm weather is going to persist all of the way through this valentine's day weekend. i show the weekend forecast coming up in the next report. first i want to check on the aftermath. here he is, mike inouye. >> we'll look at the high rise coming off the san mateo bridge. you may be moved around by some that wind. you see the camera shaking from time to time. that wind is playing a bit with

our reception from our cameras. we'll look at palo alto. to see how things shape up. we have wind advisory and overnight road repair work heading toward menlo park. we do lose one lane north of willow. look, we have a little bit of a volume building through palo alto. we show you the map, no concerns. coming off san mateo bridge, smooth drive as far as speed sensors are concerned. as we zoom out, we're looking south. peninsula moves upspeed but we have reports of hillside slippage. and wires down. watch for that. also over here, in tri-valley, we have a crash. but toward livermore, that's tri-valley typical at this time of day. as we move north. oakland moving nicely.

and in the north bay a little bit of rain shows up. some rain all over the bay, guys. just be careful. back to you. >> a little bit of caution. thank you very much. mike. 5:21 right now. hundreds of people remaining under evacuation orders. after a wildfire downed dozens of power lines over the weekend. all happening in nearby paradise communities in eastern sierra. right now, 250 people remain under evacuation orders. that fire destroyed 40 homes and charred 7,000 akers that first broke out friday. right now it's 75% contained. it's 5:22, coming up president obama meeting with germany's chancellor merkel to talk about isis this morning. >> and why the plans presented so far will not be enough.

welcome back, everyone. it is 5:25. today president obama meets with germany's chancellor, a key ally on the war on terror. the two leaders will talk strategy in the white house it comes as the obama administration works on authorization for military force in its mission against isis. some say targeting isis in iraq and syria alone is not enough. they say the u.s. must also increase efforts to track down isis followers here at home. coming up in 20 minutes we'll have a live report on the next

step in the fight against isis. >> you heard of self-implication. a selfie led police to charge a teen with murder. 16-year-old maxwell morton was charge as an adult in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in pennsylvania. he was arrested after sending a selfie photo of himself posing in front of a victim's body. it shows himself with the victim and a shot to his face. and the murder trial is under way today for the man accused of killing american sniper chris kyle. kyle is the former navy s.e.a.l. depicked in the movie directed by clint eastwood "american sniper." and "american sniper" bumped from the top of the box office by spongebob.

4.22, menlo park. sandra moan, under 4 inches. santa teresa, under 3 inches of rain. and this is really significant storm totals. we typically don't see this. basically all of the rain has been made up with two storms. and now this one, which about 70%, as potent as that which came through in december. but for us this morning, what we're waking up with is light shower activity. that continues through the first part of the day and everything clears out of here. we have a warm-up headed your way. we'll be back in the bay area. watch out, we might find slick conditions, you see some showers headed your way. for the first part of the day. afternoon clearing. you will be able to get outdoors and get the little ones outdoors as well. by lunch time, temperatures in the 60s. that's where the showers linger

longest and we'll round out the day by 3:00, a mix of sun and clouds. 64 degrees on the ince peninsula. and 63 degrees in the weekend. upper 70s. even 80s pop. hard to believe we're still in winter with temperatures like this. stick around we'll go over your forecast in moments. first let's check your drive and welcome in a friend of mine. how are you doing, mike? >> she's doing well. let's look at the bay bridge. friendly as the camera shakes. that's as far as the winds go across the span as well. look in denton, a nice easy drive in and out of the city. still easy glow. we're showing a smooth drive. but the green is highlighted on the richmond-san rafael bridge. and gusty winds for the richmond san rafael bridge.

and as the morning progresses winds will be an issue as folks travel in the area. a couple surface streets have fender-benders but nothing big. as we move over to the east bay, a nice smooth drive and we had a spinout at 8 p 7 and 101, and slippage on highway 9 and 35. ups of people actually waking up in the dark following the weekend full of heavy storms. >> yes. many of you probably experienced this where pg&e ha been pulling in thousand from worker, even from other states. seems their work is now paying off. good morning. >> good morning. some of the busiest people right now in the bay area are pg&e workers trying to navigate the spaghetti mess of downed power lines. like when the strong winds took

down this tree in vallejo, knocking down a tree. you have close to another 800 in san rafael, waiting for the lights to come back on. hundreds more had been without power on the peninsula, slugd so including some in redwood city. pg&e already has the lights back on. they were on an hour ago. blame the wind and rain for the outages throughout the bay area. lots of trees came down including this in hillsborough which timberline tree service was very busy. they got 23 calls yesterday alone. >> there was a lot of saturation in the soil. it probably had a slight lean to it over the driveway. that was enough to have the roots fail and what happened then it crashed down on this next set of gates here. it's been a very, very busy day for us. didn't start until 10:30, 11:00.

that's when we saw the front move and and a lot of wind followed. >> pg&e asked to put this warning reminder out there. assume it's energized if you see a downed line and call 911. bob redell, reporting live "today in the bay." >> there were a lot of problems, some of the problems stranding drivers across the bay area. let me show you the scene on the peninsula yesterday. two miles of traffic at menlo park. just before noon the southbound lanes flooded. >> and slick roads keeping officers busy. they had to respond to several spinouts and accidents. >> better be careful. be safe out there. it's crazy out there. floods everywhere. all of that. >> driving also treacherous in

the santa cruz mountains. drivers had to fear around a mudslide off highway 17. >> stretch of highway 1 meantime in sonoma county back open, almost 24 hours after a gasoline tanker overturned there. more than a thousand gallons gas went down the hill and straight near the ocean near jenner. the wind, rain and east coast storm calling problems for travelers at afo. so far today 16 cancellations out of sfo. hundreds of flights have been canceled because of that weather. local numbers will likely go up. as always, the airlines saying call ahead before you lead to the airport. >> we spoke with bob redell earlier. he gave us updates about redwood city. we also got new developments from pg&e on power outages. there's 2300 without power. half of those concentrated in the north bay.

700 customers are in the dark as well. >> stay with us as we continue to track this storm all morning long. christina loren will have updates where the rain will let up. mike inouye will keep his eye on the roads and let us know about traffic troubles. and a disturbing team. an antioch teen is in jail accused of kidnapping and raping a domino's pizza driver. we have more on this, from kris sanchez. good morning. >> reporter: although he's a juvenile. we could learn more who he is. there's certain crimes that require a juvenile to be charged as an adult and the crimes he's accused of are serious indeed. the victim's ordeal started at 1:20 in the morning. sunday morning when the woman

workings aa domino's pizza delivery driver arrived at 2800 block of blue bell court to deliver pizza. when he arrived there the 17-year-old forced her back to the car, robbed her, forced her to drive to an undisclosed location where she was sexually assaulted. she managed to get away and was able to call police around 11:20 in the morning is when it started. by 1:00 antioch police went back to that residence where the woman delivered the domino's pizza and arrested the 17-year-old cuss sus expect. he's now in juvenile detention center in martinez and we could learn more this morning about the charges that he faces. right now antioch police tell us it could be rape, kidnapping and robbery, as well. now, nominee's reacting very swiftly to this issuing a statement, we are shocked and horrified by what happened. we couldn't conceive of something like this happening especially on a sunday morning.

we will be, woulding with the franchise owner to provide the victim what w whatever kind of support she needs. antioch police tell nbc bay area they expect to release more information later this morning. in antioch, kris sanchez today in the bay. >> thank you very much. we have another story that will revoke a response. oakland police released a sketch of a man sexually assaulted a 10-year-old boy. that boy was walking on elm hurst park when he was attacked. he's hispanic, between the age of 40 and 50. gray and black hair and a goatee. police are offering an award to try to catch him. get out of the car. come on. >> meantime a florida deputy's body camera, capturing a dramatic rescue from a burning

it is 5:42. the parents of an american woman captured the isis is hoping she's still alive. >> her parents are in a fragile state. friday isis said mueller died in a jordanian air strike. officials have not seen evidence to back up that claim. she was taken hostage a year and a half ago while leaving the hostage in syria. >> and today president obama is meeting with germany's chancellor a key ally on the war in terror.

tracy. this come as critics question whether the u.s. strategy against isis is working. good morning. >> exactly. good morning, everyone. they have to figure out the president and chancellor merkel today, how far is the u.s. going to go? how far is the west going go and how do they get those airplane nations on the ground to fight against isis, including the iraqis, who are still in training. that, plus ukraine expected to be the big topic of discussion today. meantime on the other side of the white house, there's a lot of paperwork going on and it's really important paperwork. it's authorization for use of military force. the okay from congress to move forward and expend this campaign. congress insists that the president needs that authorization, so they are working on the language that's supposed to be here on capitol hill. at some point, we are told by aides here by the end of the week but there is a vigorous discussion going on here on whether or not the u.s. is doing enough and whether this needs to go beyond iraq, beyond syria,

like the terrorist ideology and whether we need to make greter efforts to try to root out the isis followers here at home. >> that policy will continue, of course, to be shaped. we'll see what they come up with out of congress. thanks very much. tris traci. a man dead nated a explosive vest outside of kuhn of the crowd restaurants in baghdad. at least 45 people were hurt in the explosion. the attack came two days after the prime minister lifted a an overnight curfew in place. and north korea fired off a ran round of short-range missiles. dep secretary of state is in south korea. he's there on a three-day mission to discuss some of those issue. one to put pressure on north

korea. even though north korea shows no interest in negotiating. >> they have to decide if they're serious. and having authentic talks. we remain open. that's something we welcome. >> he's also in south korea to discuss the use of japan using korean women as sex slaves during world war ii. and at least 40 people are dead after a riot at a soccer stadium in cairo. the crowds went on a stampede. police say fans tried to force their way in without tickets sparking the clashes. authorities only opened one narrow door to let fans in. now a new twist to-to-a suitcase full of body parts investigation. the only suspect is dead. >> we under the suspect died in the hospital over the weekend. >> reporter: that's right.

good morning to you. san francisco police confirming the man who had been their prime subject died in the hospital overnight though they have not released what caused his death. it was almost a week ago tuesday night around 9:30 when andres walked out of jail free. san francisco public defender walked him out of jail. his arm around his client. this came after the expiration of the 48-hour window. the d.a. had to fire charges against andres. the d.a. said in a statement that he simply did not have enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt at the time. surveillance video showed a man pulling a suitcase in the area where officers later found a toreso inside a suitcase that was on 11th near mission. they arrested andres shortly after on a tip that led officers to a friend's apartment.

even with the prime suspect. there's many things left. including the identify of the body. investigators have been working a lead that it might be andres' former roommate who has been missing for some weeks now. live in san francisco this morning. stephanie chuang. let's switch gear, shall we? >> i think that's a good idea. getting back to the microclimate forecast. stretch of highway one actually back open this morning almost 45 hours after a gasoline tanker overturned. more than 1,000 gallons of gas went down a hill and straight into the ocean near jenner. hazmat crew us actually spent the weekend removing that gas-soaked soil. meanwhile most power is back in vallejo this morning. nobody was hurt, but crews say a tree knocked out three power

lines in the process. initially last night the outage left 2400 customers without power. this morning that number is down to 380. but a lot of people still dealing with the after-effects of the storm. >> that ground became so saturated we got so much rain which is great news. >> we really needed it. we went ahead and broke it down four. microclimate by microclimate. wherever you live let's talk about the highest totals for your area. saratoga, down in the south bay. just under 5 inches of rainfall. obviously we saw a lot more rain in the santa cruz mountains. we'll show you how much in a few moments. but for the peninsula, over 5 inches of rain. san francisco, under 2 inches of rain. lafayette, just under 5 inches and a big winner up in the russian river valley. we picked up over 1 foot of rafael from a single storm system. really great looking numbers and obviously we need that rain where our reservoirs are, it

this will take a satellite really, really far away from earth to the so-called la grange point. that's far enough the satellite will seat earth as a big blue marble and take lots of pictures. when mr. gore came up with the satellite what he wanted to replicate was the photograph taken by apollo astronauts on apollo 17. we see this all of the time but take for granted how far away you have to get it. and it's many, many years old and we've gotten better looking for them. back on earth, the dow had its best week since december 2013. tesla reports profits wednesday. remember, sam and laura, we got more good jobs news. not only did we break records in the number of months we added 200,000 or more. economists upward, november's job, was a favorite month. it was a blockbuster.
