in sunnyvale. >> that intersection is back open. the police are still looking for the driver of a white mercedes sedan who tried to run over one of those officers during a traffic stop yesterday evening. two santa clara police officers, one in an unmarked suv, the other in a squad car. they pulled over the driver at 5:45 last night in front of a 76 station along the el camino. they were doing this because the mercedes matched a vehicle involved in a nearby auto burglary. as one of the officers stood outside of his unmarked suv, the driver of the mercedes drove straight at him prompting the officer to fire several rounds into the oncoming vehicle. >> all we know right now is he feared enough for his life to be pinned between the two vehicles, that he decided to take the course he did and shoot at the vehicle. >> the other officer chased the mercedes, but that driver got away.

still on the loose. police don't know if the driver or any other possible passengers inside were hit by the officer's bullet. that officer who fired the rounds is on paid administrative leave. even though this involved two santa clara police officers, sunnyvale police are heading up the investigation since it happened in their city. bob redell, today in the bay. officials are trying to find out what caused a fire at a safeway store in san rafael last night. the fire started about 11:30 last night in a trailer at the store's loading dock. fire crews were able to put the fire out before it reached the building. happening today, the death of a transgender woman is prompting a protest in downtown san francisco. supporters will be remembering 36-year-old taja dejesus, she was found stabbed to death on the steps of her apartment in the bay district.

her death one of many acts of violence recently tar geing the lgbt community. last night they made signs in preparation for today's event calling for change in taja's memory. >> everybody's life mattered. if this can save one person. >> you have to felt mother's pain. today's rally will be held at 1:30 at city hall. the california woman known address the serial stowaway due in a florida courtroom this morning. marilyn hartman was arrested sunday. she got past security at a minnesota airport and hopped a plane to jacksonville, florida. once she got to florida, police say she went into a high-end resort and checked into a room using someone else's name. she was found sleeping in a room that had been for renovations. hartman tried seven times to

board a plane at sfo, and last august was arrested after sneaking on a flight from san jose to l.a. two weeks later police arrested her again in phoenix for loitering at the airport. this morning police in san francisco are trying to figure out if the same suspects are behind two brazen robberies at high-end jewelry stores. three men rushed into tina's jewelry ordering the employees there to the ground. the robbers got away if a light-colored suv with the jewelry. two days prior three masked gunmen held up employees at begin poigun point at a tiffany's. happening now, residents of two small towns in the sierra are salvaging what they can after a wildfire. the round fire destroyed 40

gate bridge, that lane five will be closed for some retrofit work that will be the case all day. over here as we move towards the peninsula and south bay, a smoother day around the entire bay. we will look at dublin area, 580 where we might see some fog right now. definitely not a concern as far as visibility and a light volume of traffic. those flashing lights at the bottom, a crew with a larger vehicle but no lanes closed in dublin. >> keep it down, mike, will you? palo alto trying to move forward with some quiet zones in the city. last night city council went as far as agreeing to study the idea. quiet zones are section of the rail lines where trains do not sound their horn. for the past two years people near alma street have been asking the council to create one near their home. up next who is watching you? the television that can spy on you. and why rising gas prices may be a good thing for the economy.

very good tuesday morning to you. what a beautiful look at the bay bridge. look at how the lights illuminate the water out there. a nice start to our tuesday morning. president obama turning up the heat on isis. as soon as today he may ask congress to approve use of military force. congressional aides say the white house is in the final stages of formulating its plan. that request will be made as early as today or tomorrow. u.s. has been involved in air strikes for months but never received approval from congress. it would be the first congressional war vote in 13 years when u.s. ground forces returned to iraq. president obama comes back to the bay area on thursday. >> yes, but this time fewer photo-opes and fund raisers and more action. he will be at stanford. it's the first time in 40 years that a sitting u.s. president will make a speech at the

that plunging gas prices are encouraging people to buy more often and buy more trucks. the improving economy is also contributing. the u.s. added more than 3 million jobs last year, just as gas prices started falling. more jobs means more americans are joining the daily commute to work. stocks look to break their mini two-day losing streak today. the markets fell on lingering concerns about europe's ongoing debt crisis and bailout talks in greece, that's despite another rise in oil prices. crude is up 21% since hitting a low of $43 a barrel at the end of last month. there's no major economic data today, but we get earnings from coca-cola this morning, the nasdaq losing 18 to 4726. my spidey sense is tingling. sony and marvel have struck a deal to share spider-man on screen. he will appear in the next

captain america movie next year, which is being produced by marvel. marvel will co-produce the next film in 2017 which will be a reboot for the franchise, that will be wi. >> the world's largest solar plant is online in southern california. the 550 megawatt desert sunlight solar project is located in the town of desert center, near joshua tree national park. the company that built it says the project will generate enough electricity to power 160,000 homes. alternative forms of energy always a good thing. we could use a lot of sunlight to get that process started. maybe today is the day. christina, how are you? >> i'm fine. how are you two? hopefully well. we have the day shaping up.
