>> i'm sam brock. the search is on for a car burglar in the south bay. the suspect tried to run over an officer forcing him to open up fire this happened in sunnyvale. bob redell joins us there live. it's not clear if the gunman was hit by the gunfire. the search has gone on for 12 hours. >> reporter: police have not been ability to capture the driver of this white mercedes sedan who tried to run down an officer at this 76 station along the el camino at the intersection with wolf road. two santa clara city police officers, one in a squad car, the other in an unmarked suv. they pulled over the driver around 5:45 last night because they thought his vehicle might have been involved in some nearby auto burglaries. the driver did stop the car. as one of the officers was standing outside his unmarked suv, the driver of the mercedes made a move. >> during the stop of that vehicle, the vehicle then drove

towards the officer, who was standing the roadway between him and the other vehicle, fearing for his life the officer shot at the suspect vehicle as the vehicle drove past him and fled northbound on wolf road. >> we heard eight gunshots being fired continuously. no gaps in between. >> i just walked outside to walk my dog, it sounded like fireworks going off. they counted ten shots, i think. >> reporter: police don't know if any of those shots hit the driver or any of the other people in the mercedes. the officer in the squad car did give chase, but the driver got away. the officer who fired his weapon is okay, is he on paid administrative leave which is normal in a situation like this. even though this involves santa clara police officers, the sunnyvale police are heading up the investigation since this happened within their jurisdiction. reporting live here in sunnyvale, bob redell. >> thank you very much. new this morning,

investigators trying to figure out what caused this fire at a safe way store in san rafael. the fire started about 11:30 last night in a trailer at the store's loading dock. if it never made it to the store itself. fire crews were able to put the fire out before it spread inside the building. luckily no one was hurt. an employee tells us the store reopened about ten minutes ago. happening today, planned protests around san francisco's city hall after the death of a transgender woman. supporter also remember 36-year-old taja dejesus, she was found stabbed to death on the steps of her apartment in the bayview district. her death is one of many acts of violence directed to the lgbt community. they want it stopped. in just a few hours, former radioshack employees accused of stealing racy photos from a customer's cell phone will enter a plea in court.

jose miranda faces several charges including petty theft. back in november, a woman says she took her phone to the radioshack store to get a broken screen fixed. when she got the phone back, she realized 17 of her photos were texted to an unknown number. now to a follow up on a deadly fire in san francisco. donations continue to pour in for the 38 people left homeless by this fire at 22nd and mission streets. those people likely won't see all the money. a gofundme page has raised $160,000, but fee also take thousands away from that total. police need your help catching a man bothering a child. officers in daley city released a sketch of the suspect. six separate times over the past few months a 10-year-old boy reported a man driving by and waving to him. one time the man demanded the

limit. we have a slower drive for the tri valley. typical as we move up to the altamont, over tarrowards dubli. slower drive now through pleasanton, 680. 680 north appears clear, but in walnut creek there may be a crash near main street, that was reported by chp. as we move towards the bay bridge and the approach, hercules, richmond, berkeley a little traditional slowdown. that volume should build, it's a tuesday so we expect more traffic there. no wind advisory this morning, a smooth drive to and from san rafael. the north bay shows that build. we see more traffic flowing southbound. christina has said there may be fog in parts of the north bay, but it's a smooth drive from centerville down to the golden gate bridge. one of the toll booths on the golden gate bridge is shut

welcome back. good tuesday morning. i'm meteorologist christina loren. get ready for near record warmth, a prolonged period of heat and temperatures into the 80s for some. we'll have more on that moments away. and a good volume of traffic. a smooth drive across the san mateo bridge, much steadier conditions. winds are not the case like they were yesterday. we will show you where there's some slowing in the east bay coming up. here's a look at the top stories. police in sunnyvale are searching for a car burglar. the suspect got away last night after trying to run over a police officer. that officer opened fire as the car was coming towards him.

the lgbt community will protest today at san francisco's city hall. they are calling for a change after a transgender woman was stabbed to death. and jordan says it is sending thousands of troops to its border with iraq. at 6:13, new details about the woman known for sneaking on to flights. moments ago she appeared in court. >> almost defies logic. kris sanchez is here. this stowaway struck last year here at sfc, now she's in florida. >> she remains in custody after facing a judge for being busted if a luxury hotel room she didn't pay for in jacksonville. she also got there without paying for it. she faces two charges of fraud, one charge of trespassing and remains in custody with bail set at $50,000. her next court appearance is march 5th.

marilyn hartman first jumped a flight and landed at l.a.x. and was arrested upon landing. that was back in august. she's also been arrested at sky harbor airport in phoenix and several other times either trying to sneak on to planes or in secure airport areas this time the 63-year-old woman started out in minnesota on sunday where she boarded a plane without a ticket, arrived in jacksonville, then she allegedly used a fake name to get to an omni resort near jacksonville where she stayed in a $300 a night villa until the real guest showed up. she says she feels safer at airports than on the streets where she usually lives. when she was referred to a residential mental health treatment facility where she could stay, she did not. her bail is set at $50,000. though she has told the court previously that she is homeless, this time around she said she's retired and has an income of

about $800 a month. she is always declining to name family. it's hard to get her in connection with somebody who can talk. >> or help her. >> scary that this continues to happen. >> yeah. tsa is working on this one. spacex will try to launch a satellite into deep space this afternoon. scott mcgrew joins us now. you learned something new? >> i did. we were talking yesterday about how the discover satellite would be placed really far from earth in a spot called the la grange point. far enough to get pictures like this of the earth using a special camera called epic. a viewer points out that camera was made in palo alto at lockheed martin. it was supposed to launch on sunday, but was stopped because of problems with radar and yesterday because of weather.

overall nice and clear. we have enough atmospheric mixing, enough wind to keep that dense fog from settling in. as that storm exits the area, high pressure is moving in. these clouds, they want to get into the bay area. but not able to do so because we have this big ridge of high pressure in place that will boost the storm track well north of the bay area where it will stay as we head through the next few days and the weekend. temperatures will be very warm. 80s in spots. 48 in san carlos. 50 in san francisco. good morning to you, san jose. starting out the day at 45. 48 down in san martin. as that storm system continues to push out, high pressure moves in. it compresses everything in our atmosphere. i do believe tomorrow morning we will see some dense fog all across the board, high builds, near record temperatures starting tomorrow. today i will bring your numbers up by a few degrees. 3 to 5 degrees, will you likely

that single storm system. when it comes to the reservoirs filled by rainwater, looking good. you may be familiar with the folsom lake reservoir. this is actually just off of 80 making your way up to tahoe. we have a good story to tell here. nearly four times of the amount of water in folsom lake than this time last year. today 91% of average. it was 62% in october. doing okay. a lot of that is from the two storm systems, one in december and the other over the weekend. let's talk about locally the mar mar marin municipal water district doing okay. they had to release some water because they received so much rain. 4.8 from the last storm system. that's feed two lakes. this is amazing. at 117.8% of average.

98.2% of capacity. if we get another big storm system, they're going to have to continue to release that water. now, let's talk about what's happening locally today. you can see the low clouds from high atop mt. hamilton taking out the valley floor. seeing a murky sky over san jose. today we're in the 40s to start. 60s at lunch time, rounding out the day in the mid 60s. record warmth on the way wednesday and thursday. close to 80 degrees by friday. i'm forecasting 80s out in the tri valley on valentine's day with a cooler day on sunday and the next chance of rain late week. we'll keep you updated on the status of all of that. let's check the driver. here is mike. >> great job powering through that altoid, they're curiously strong. looking at northbound 101 in san jose. no surprises. as we look at map, showing you the slow section north at 680, also 87, 285, just before 7:00

t the woman known for sneaking on flights has done it again. >> she struck at sjt, and now she's in florida. >> she not only took a flight but stayed at a luxury hotel as well. she faced a judge in the last hour. she was busted at that luxury hotel in a room she didn't pay for near jacksonville. she faces two charges of fraud, one charge of trespassing and remains in custody with bail set at $50,000. her next court appearance is march 5th. they're keeping her in custody until then. she first hit the radar after she jumped a flight without a ticket from mineta san jose and landed at l.a.x. where she was arrested upon landing. she has also been arrested at sky harbor airport in phoenix and nearly a half dozen other times hart trying to sneak on to a plane. according to a sheriff's department in the florida county, this time the 63-year-old started out in

minnesota on sunday where she boarded a plane, once again without a ticket, arriving in jacksonville. she allegedly used a fake name to get into an omni resort, where she stayed in a $300 a night villa until the real guest showed up. we reached out to the san mateo county attorney's office where she was charged before. sounds like florida treats her more seriously than other states. when she was in our county jail she seemed to enjoy interminglely with other inmates and correctional officers. just another place to sleep at night. airports, jails, she's quite the character. hartman says she feels safer in airports than on streets where she usually lives, but she had a chance to stay in a residential mental health treatment facility, but she checked out more than once. >> they can't find any of her family, right? >> she refuses to give up
