>> reporter: meanwhile, eastport, maine, 101 inches since january 24th, eight and a half feet of snow in a mere three weeks. like clock work, storms have hit every five to seven days since january 27th. cancelling weekend plans and closing school every monday. those who are venturing out are dealing with dangerous conditions. icy roads contributing to frightening car crashes. from a 20 car pileup in massachusetts to ohio, where a pregnant woman was killed. others forced out of their homes with buildups of heavy snow causing roofs to collapse, affecting businesses and scaring homeowners. >> all the sudden, i heard this crash. and i thought it was my roof. and the whole gutter just came crashing down. >> reporter: while others are managing to have some fun during the deep freeze, the weather channel's jim cantore celebrating thunder snow. >> oh yes! yes, we got it, baby, we got it! whoa!

morning, drivers stayed off the roads because of the president's day holiday. forecasters are expecting eight inches of snow here, and that would make it one of the biggest snow storms in recent memory. overnight people began to post pictures of the snowfall on social media. today, schools here are closed and local officials are urging people to just stay home. parts of the south are expected to hit very hard. nashville is preparing for several inches of snow. other parts like mississippi and arkansas are dealing with the sleet. and the governor of georgia declared a state of emergency in 15 counties north of atlanta. here we expect accumulation throughout the day. even when the snow blows through, we are expecting bone-chilling temperatures to stay here for a while. al. >> all right. actually, i'm going to take it, gabe, thanks so much. again, as we watch, we're going to put in the radar here, and you can see the blue line, that's the freezing line. the pink is the freezing rain.

the pinkish, purplish-pink is the sleet as we watch that come down. look at the winter storm warnings and watches stretching from oklahoma all the way to just south of new york city. we are going to track this for you. by noon, winter storm warnings for little rock, you could pick up half inch of ice. that is dangerous. by 6:00 this evening, lexington, kentucky, winter storm warning, eight to 12 inches of snow. we move into 12 midnight tonight, roanoke, winter storm warnings, seven to 11 inches of snow. now snowing in washington d.c., early morning, five to eight inches of snow. new york city by noontime, you may pick up about three to five inches and boston, another two to three inches. plus, there is ice to talk about. up to a quarter inch of ice, but snowfall wise, we're looking generally anywhere from three to six inches. a little bit more as you get into the central parts of the mid-atlantic states, but there's icing condition, that's the big thing we're worried about. and look at those temperatures. they are brutally cold this

morning. staying cold today, and moderate a little bit later on tomorrow and on into wednesday, savannah. >> all right al, thank you so much. now to a story breaking overnight in a fight against isis. egypt bombed libya in the wake of the killing new video showing the brutal murders of 21 egyptian christians. we have more, good morning, this is disturbing. >> it is distance disturbing. the egyptian government overnight promised to respond to these murders of the 21 egyptian presidents. the egyptian president delivered an address to the nation early this morning. early this morning, fighter jets attacked about a dozen or so targets in the eastern part of libya. they targeted weapons depots, training camps belonging to the infamous militant group. this is the first time they're participating overtly in operations in libya and marks a turning point for isis. it has declared itself in libya. and we is that true murder on this videotape, very similar to the kind of videos we've seen in the past inside syria.

6:00. a real mess out there. winter storm watches and warnings stretching from texas all the way to central new jersey, and you can see as we push in little rock is going to see about a quarter to a half a inch of ice by evening and lexington an inch and dc picking up five to eight tomorrow morning. new york city gets flee to five inches of know and boston gets another two to three inches of snow by this time tomorrow night. we're looking at a lot of snow making it's way up the coast, and the big problem is ice. take a look at the ice accumulations. we're looking at anywhere from ten to a half an inch off of ice or more and that could be very very dangerous. a lot of power out ages and the 8:07.

a half inch of ice, which is dangerous. power outages and bad roads. lexington, kentucky by this evening, winter storm warning. 8 to 12 inches of snow. get around midnight the snow is falling in roanoke to washington, d.c. 7 to 11 inches of snow. by 6:00 in the morning, a rough morning commute for d.c. and surrounding areas, 5 to 8 inches with heavy snow falling. winter storm warnings it's snowing in new york. about 3 to 5 inches before it all ends late afternoon. and boston yes, boston this system will bring you another 2 to 3 inches of snow accumulation. the heaviest accumulations will be in the mountains of west virginia with a foot to a foot and a half as we watch that. but anywhere from 6 to 9 inches along the atlantic coast. this is where i'm most concerned about icing, ice from a quarter inch to half inch from raleigh to little rock. very, very dangerous conditions over the next six hours. that

yesterday afternoon. according to "the chronicle" two people who lived there tried to put the fire out on their own but had to retreat. investigators say the fire started in a dryer, nobody hurt. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a million dollar worth of classic cars in san jose. this saturdayed at an auto shop near commercial road. the cars were destroyed including two 1960 era chevelles and a rare 1970 monte carlo. we'll take a look at weather and traffic after the break.
