>> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's check the friday forecast with christina, good morning. >> good morning to you laura, sam, everybody at home. temperatures in the 50s. we have widespread cloud cover out there to kick off the end of the week but what a beautiful weekend in store, and rain. that's right, real rain in the forecast. we're going to talk about that coming up. first i want to check your drive and say happy friday. oh, mike, we finally, finally made it. >> got to make it through friday. toward the golden gate bridge, this is an easy view from the city up north the north side christina is talking about low clouds and fog may be an issue as well as we look at your map north of the golden gate bridge, a smooth drive from marin county, tiburon on screen there. as we zoom out we see orange there, novato toward san rafael. it might be fog for some drivers but so far no warnings or advisories from chp.

toward the tri valley none for livermore or the south bay like yesterday but the clouds will tend to drift around so we'll track that and give you an update what's going on in the east bay, looks like construction. back to you. >> thank you, mike. new this morning an unusual use for the jaws of life, in this case the jaws stopped a fire from spreading. >> the fire broke out about 2:00 this morning at an auto repair shop on international boulevard in east oakland. firefighters could not initially get in because the building was so secure. crews had to use the jaws of life to pry the doors open. damage was limited to one area of the shop including several cars. giants manager bruce bochy expected to be released from the hospital today. he was admitted yesterday for chest pain and doctors inserted two stents into bochy's heart. last night we talked with insider alex pavlovic when bochy will be back.

>> reporter: with this procedure a week tops returning to work. i've heard it could be pretty quickly here. the guy obviously likes to work and be at the ball park. it will be hard to keep him away. >> the giants staff says bochy is resting comfortably and he will be released later today. they threatened to leave town if they don't get a new stadium now the threats look more legitimate. >> they announced with the chargers to develop a stadium in southern california. bob redell is live from o.co stadium. >> reporter: they want to get into a new venue that keeps them in the bay area so they don't have to move back down south like the early '80s. but if they cannot work out a deal with the local government in the east bay, /then, which something they've been trying to do for years they possibly have

this option. yesterday the raiders and the san diego chargers announced they'd build and share a $1.7 billion stadium built in the city of carson, about 15 miles south of downtown l.a. one reason the move is so enticing, the teams would not have to rely on public funding. the city of carson said to be privately financed to the sale of luxury suites and luxury tax. >> while raiders owner mark davis remains committed to staying in oakland long-term, this late's stadium proposal with the san diego chargers is the most serious leverage pull yet and i do believe that if nothing happens in oakland over the course of the next season, the raiders could bolt to los angeles. >> it would be a great blow to the city of oakland andset us back but i certainly don't blame the raiders for exploring their options, given the difficulties. >> reporter: the nfl has alerted

both teams it ultimately has the final say over whether or not they are allowed to move. an owners committee is reviewing the option including not only this proposed stadium in carson but two other possibilities in and around the los angeles area. oakland mayor libby schaff told the press she wants to keep the raiders in oakland but doesn't want to use public founds build them a new stadium. coming up in a half hour, reaction from fans of the raiders. reporting outside o.co, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> the oakland raiders, not the l.a. raiders. a woman escaped after she says she was held against her will has detectives searching for her captors. the s.w.a.t. team served a search warrant at this roam on stony point road. the home is connected to a kidnapping investigation that started wednesday. neighbor described the scene, wanting to remain anonymous. >> a lot of the cars that do

come in, they ended up going in the south gate, so i don't know what's going on back there. >> petaluma police say a 22-year-old woman came to the station on wednesday. she told officers someone kidnapped her at gunpoint in roseland three weeks ago. she claimed her attackers beat her and sexually assaulted her at a home on stony point road. she escaped and made it all the way to the petaluma police station. investigators detained several people but have not made any arrests. >> 4:36 right now. a man who stabbed a co-worker during an argument at work now on the loose this morning. two men work at a body shop in cupertino. investigators say the two were arguing about something work related when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the man. the victim should be okay. deputies say they know who the suspect is, but they don't know where he is. >> it is 4:36. we have new details on the santa clara student accused of stabbing his roommate in their dorm room. dylan kim was in court but did not enter a plea.

kim's roommate woke up to find kim standing over him with a knife. he stabbed his roommate in the throat, hand, shoulder and back. kim then cut himself. his roommate should be okay. today police may identify the man accused of killing a security guard in san jose. police arrested the two suspects last night. manny zuniga and a fellow security guard were responding to a robbery on saturday when someone started shooting at them. witnesses say zuniga stepped in the line of fire to shield the other security guard. allowing deputies to track down criminals using cell phone locations, the sheriff office wants to set up a triang lags system to find criminals, missing people and others. investigators would have to get a search warrant in order to use the system. the sheriff's office says it would not be used to monitor the general public. public meeting on the proposal is set for $1:00 today at the sheriff's office in san jose. they're ordinary men but

their bravery is extraordinary. in january of 2013, perry hookey and lance o'prie saw this semitruck on fire and tried ton rescue the driver. they were able to get the driver out but the driver died from his injuries at the hospital and in november of 2013, donny navidad saved a woman at o.co coliseum. he broke her fall. they will receive the carnegie medal for extraordinary heroism. san jose's archbishop asked to respect his right to hire people who upholdment the catholic teaching. in the letter archbishop salvatore cortoleone they are supposed to conduct their lives in a way that does not undermine church doctrine. one of the people infected

by the superbug in southern california is an 1-year-old student and we learn today he might not survive. the man's lawyer says he went to the ucla medical center last year. doctors used an endoscope to examine his pancreas. he was treated and released but soon became gravely ill and in and out of the hospital ever since. ucla says at least seven people have been infected by the superbug, two of them have already died. >> hoping for a recovery there. 4:39, forecast this friday looking forward to a nice weekend. christina? >> it will be spectacular throughout. good morning to you. temperatures mostly in the 50s. we have some fog out there, i've temperatures mostly in the 5 yo especially in san francisco and that will be the story of the day. burning off by about lunch time, a lot of sunshine headed our way to finish off the day. 70s later, more 70s than yesterday, and it's going to get warmer as we head throughout your saturday, trying to make the outdoor plans for the weekend, saturday looking more promising for sunshine and warmer weather than what we're expecting sunday as the clouds

increase, we'll get some chance toward the end of the week. but for today, 71 degrees on a friday in the tri valley. 68 in san francisco and 73 degrees in the north bay. stick with us. i'll have that full weekend forecast coming up in moments plus we'll tell you what's going on around the bay area. first i want to check your drive and say happy friday. mike, you know what? we made it, smooth drive. that's all a lot of people want this morning. good morning to you. >> that's all i want, too, makes for an easier morning for me.wac toward the bay bridge we look at the easy drive christina was hoping for and talking about the low clouds christina had mentioned. fog at times in and around the bay. we'll look at this shot of the toll plaza, now from emeryville, you can see the lights, we'll turn the camera toward san francisco and look at the span which we can see disappearing into the low clouds. visibility for drivers across sounds like it's okay on the deck but having a problem, we're having a problem seeing the city lights as christina said, san francisco seeing some fog on the city side. not enough to show up orange on our sensors.

it is likely fog north of novato and rio vista coming toward the antioch bridge, highway 160. the rest of the bay moves smoothly. construction removes from the east bay but no surprises. back to you. coming up a warning from the labor secretary, the threat he's giving to both sides of the west coast port slowdown. we're learning more information about the relationship between the las vegas mom killed in an apparent case of road rage and the man accused of killing her. details on how well they really knew each other, coming up.

at 4:44 friday morning the country's top labor leader says the west coast slowdown must end today. secretary of labor thomas perez gave the deadline to the dockers union and the side hiring them. billions of dollars of cargo is just sitting on ships anchored outside of 29 ports. >> see if his calls for resolution there actually resonate. some of that cargo includes honda parts. now the car company is having to cut back on its production because they can't get the parts it needs. plant in indiana and another one in canada are cutting production by 5,000 cars for the next couple of weeks. the company made about 20,000 less cars last week because of

nasdaq for a seventh day win streak the longest of the year. they're expecting a plan to extend loans for greece and lower oil prices on reports of a smaller than expected increase in u.s. crude supplies last week. there's no major economic data today but look for earnings from deere, the tractor and farm equipment maker. the dow falling 44 points the nasdaq rising 18 to 4924. it's been a week since reports first surfaced that apple plans to build its own electric car, that is shifting into a higher gear. apple aims to begin production in 2020 and assembled a team of about 200 people. it typically takes designers five to seven years to develop a car but apple isn't commenting. youtube will release a new app for kids next week, featuring age-appropriate content and kid-friendly design with big icons. it will have parental controls including a timer to limit a child's screen time.

guys, back over to you. >> now that is a very good idea. >> useful information. >> yes, believe me. thank you very much, landon. scientists say they're actually one step closer to develop a vaccine for aids. they found a method of blocking hiv in animals. the new compound stops the virus from attaching the healthy cells. it works in four monkeys who were repeatedly exposed to hiv for nearly a year. the next step is to test the compound in monkeys already infected with hiv. go ahead, have that extra cup of coffee this morning. the government advisory committee released new dietary recommendations which say it's okay to drink several cups of coffee in a single day. more coffee might lower the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. eggs are also back on the menu, too. federal experts say the cholesterol is no longer cause for concern. the new food to limit is red and processed meat. >> we certainly drink a lot of

coffee around here. bitter cold is gripping the northeast this morning. meteorologists have nicknamed the winter blast the siberian express. arctic air from siberia travels over the north pole pushing all the way to florida. the national weather service says today's high temperatures will be in the single digits in parts of new england and northern pennsylvania. classes are canceled or delayed at at least dozens of schools. my brother lives in florida and he said people weren't prepared. they were kind of panicking. >> it's atypical for what they may have seen and everything has to have this catchy name, the siberian express. i don't know, does it need to come from russia? what's the deal? >> well it certainly feels like siberia over there. it extends all across the nation, it's been brutal. whereas we have this mild winter. the storm track returns as we get into the beginning of the week and expect a little shower activity toward the end of the week and the first week of march

looks really, really good for rain. you know what, today just one month left of wintertime and you probably noticed the allergies of the season coming back, if you're someone who does suffer from that. we have a really high pollen count for today, it's going to extend to the weekend. it won't be quite as high but people have been writing in on facebook and twitter letting me know the polen levels are high. maybe you want to hit the beach. 67 degrees in pacifica, 69 degrees in half moon bay. i want to fly you down to santa cruz, if you can get down there today, 71 degrees, spectacular beach weather for today and even better as we get into your saturday, temperatures climb just a touch more. then by sunday things start to change. humidity surges. we'll see clouds increase and looks like shower activity. for today san francisco 68 degrees. 71 degrees, beautiful conditions in the tri valley. we'll hit the low 70s in the north bay and right here in san jose as well. let's talk about that chance for

showers and what you'll notice about this system it's also going to provide us with some sierra snowfall which we need. i stopped that clock for you, at 6:00 p.m. on monday the snow moves in and we might get a little bit of shower activity on the south end of the bay area, you have the best chance of seeing this, especially over the santa cruz mountains and also the western facing slopes surrounding san jose. east and south bay best chance for rain and better chance as we get into the end of the week when that storm track really looks like it will return. we'll have more coming up. first one more event, final weekend of tulipmania. pier 39 san francisco, temperatures comfortable out there and just gorgeous. the color out there is hard to beat. bring your camera, you might want to take the kids, just three days left. back to you, sam and laura. >> thank you very much, christina. appreciate that. 4:50. the teenager accused of killing a las vegas woman in a road rage shooting apparently knew her, before all this happened. police arrested eric nosh

yesterday. the 19-year-old lives one block away from the victim, tammy myers. myers' husband says nosh had a history with the family >> my wife spent countless hours at that park consoling this boy. >> police say tammy myers had a confrontation with nosh while giving her daughter a driving lesson last week. myers and her 22-year-old son later went looking for nosh. police say he shot myers in the head and myers died two days later. police believe nosh was the only shooter but they're looking for another suspect. the owner of a company that united would be parents with egg donors could spend 20 years in prison. alison leyton owned miracle egg donation in glendora. between 2008 and 2012.

amazing, new video out of niagara falls this morning. look at that. it's supposed to be water. drone actually flying over the falls captured this fwibird's-e view of the stunning landmark. the falls nearly frozen over, mostly ice. the only time it stopped flowing all together was in march of 1848 an ice jam let people walk on the riverbed. >> i think i'd be nervous to do that. >> wouldn't recommend that. >> it's amazing to see in video, right? >> in person i would imagine as well but probably not right now, mike. no sorts of that nature here this morning. >> there's glow to the lights, we have some low clouds and fog as christina has been telling you about throughout this morning. that will be abin issue for som
