is it the first major blunder of the presidential race? why the wisconsin governor says he was just misunderstood. and blue and black. >> obviously it's white and gold. what color do you see? >> why do we care? the great dress debate burning up the internet, friday, february 27, 2015. >> announcer: from nbc news, this is "today" with matt lauer and savannah guthrie live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. and good morning. welcome to the show on a friday morning. 7:00 on the west coast. we want to get to this breaking news, at least nine people are dead after a series of shootings in missouri. police say the alleged gunman is among the dead. pete williams is nbc's justice correspondent. pete, what can you tell us? >> the shooting spree took place in several places in and around the missouri town of tyrone in

texas county, missouri, that's about 40 miles north of the arkansas border. officials have not given the names of the victims or the gunman who was found dead in a car in a nearby county, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the shooting victims authorities say were in four different houses. at least one person apparently survived and has been taken to a hospital. there's no word yet at this early stage on the motive or potential connection between the gunman and the shooting victims. late word is that the shooting started at one of the houses, a young woman called to say she heard gun shots in the home and ran to a neighbor's house. two were found dead at that house and authorities say they know of eight shooting victims, and one person they found who died of natural causes. >> pete williams, obviously a story still developing. >> meantime, we're learning more this morning about the london-raised man unmasked as the murderous face of isis. his background and what led him

to join the terror group being revealed. live in london, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the families of the murdered hostages are reacting to the news, the family of steven solkof saying they want to see mohammed emwazi taken to a court and put in prison if he is convicted. we're learning more about this man, he grew up here in london, went to school and college here. and people are asking how the boy that you're about to see in a school picture turned out to be the man that we saw in those brutal isis videos. a grade school student smiling but he would grow up to become the masked isis killer dubbed jihadi john. mohammed emwazi grew up in a middle class family. according to this school document he enjoyed watching the simpsons, when he is 30 he writes he will play for a soccer team and scoring a goal. he studied computer science at university of westminster. a spoke man there said they are

sickened. miles away the family of murdered hostage from florida now wants justice. >> the revelation that jihadi john's name is the first step in a long road to bringing closure to the family. it's going to take time to bring him to a court of law, and to prosecute him. >> reporter: james foley's parents say the name of the front man for their son's killing is not their focus. >> discovering who he is might be important to some people but it's really not important to me. >> while the british daughter of another victim david haines spoke of retribution. >> i think all of the families will feel closure and relief. >> the family thought to live in this house he traveled to syria in 2012. people who knew him while he lived here in london say he was also known to the british security services, that he was detained at airports and prevented from traveling to some countrie >> there will be a lot of watching of this community in

the authorities have known about mohammed emwazi since 2009, they had several encounters with him over the years. are you surprised they let him slip through the snet >> you say slip through the net i think it's the analysis is interesting because whenever you are trying to apprehend someone you need a certain amount of evidence to be able to take someone to a court of law to charge them and then put them in jail. if you don't have that evidence, then while they might be able to monitor his movements which they did, back to the uk, to kuwait, in amsterdam, it's hard to arrest someone. >> we're learning more about his biography, lots of facts coming forward, but do you see anything in that biographical information that answers the crucial question of how this guy became radicalized in a fighter for isis? >> what is interesting is it doesn't fit this perception we have about it being socio-economic problems, high

unemployment, high crime rate, low job opportunity. that's an element of what the problem is. i think what we need to get our head around is how does someone get to the point they are either kravg for or susceptible to the ideolo >> now we know his identity, mohammed emwazi, the fact of the matter is intelligence officials have known that for a long time. we're just learning it. does knowing his name do anything to help authorities stop him or stop others from following in his foot steps? sadly not. operating in the governorless space. we need to get to the root of the problem which is assad. assad the reason muslims galvanized in syria to reject the brutality of assad. there is no political road map. military activity is great but futile in terms of long term. we need to synergize military effect with the political road map. that goes to assad. >> michael, good to have you. thank you. let's go to savannah. >> thank you.

february is american heart month and here is a sobering fact. every 34 seconds someone in the united states has a heart attack. >> in case you haven't heard, 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease. but you never think it is going to be you, do you? that's just what this busy mom from north carolina thought. >> take a look at her story. >> reporter: friday >> friday, april 15th, 2013 was the day my life changed forever. that morning was like any other. i got up before my husband and three kids and worked myself into my normal stressful frenzy trying to get everyone dressed and out on time. but when i arrived at work something felt odd. a twisting in my chest. difficulty breathing. heart hurricane.

"today" on this friday. before the break we shared the story of heart attack survivor julia allen who was just 44 years old when she suffered a double heart attack in 2013. >> as a busy working mom of three julia ignored her symptoms and found herself fighting for her life. she's here now along with the director of women's heart health, as well as a national spokesperson for the wear red campaign. >> how are you? >> i'm feeling awesome. >> awesome. >> all the time. >> all the time. >> when you described in the piece about all different symptoms you had and you were attributing them to something else. you're probably like a lot of

moms and put your needs last on the list. >> absolutely. it wasn't happening to me. it's just the flu. that's just what i thought. >> did you think to yourself i just need to get home and get to bed. >> i just wanted to go home and take a nap. flu was going around the office so i just kind of thought i'm the last one. >> you didn't feel pain? the tightening in your chest or turning -- >> don't get me wrong. it was very uncomfortable. it was like someone squeezing a rag. it was very tight and twisting. lots of pressure. but no pain. >> doctor what's the danger in feeling that but not reacting quickly, because thankfully everything worked out. >> one of the things we learned in medical school is time is muscle. the quicker you get to the hospital the better it is. and the reality is with women these symptoms aren't always as clear cut. they're not the typical hollywood heart attack of clutching chest pain and blue in the face and sweating. it's sometimes the flu-like symptoms. >> the fact that you could function enough to go home to make snacks for your kids and then to get to the hospital.

you still had -- you were still functioning. >> it started about 8:30 in the morning. so i had the nausea little bit of chest pressure felt like i needed to throw up. then we go all the way through lunch time. i went to the store, got some soup because chicken soup make everything feel better. it wasn't until about 2:00 that i left work to start heading towards the hospital. so that -- >> hours. >> -- way too long. >> we hear this. symptoms come and go be with they're intermittent and they always start getting worse. these are the things that women need to pay attention to. the activities that were easy now all of a sudden are becoming harder. >> how about the fact that you were 44 at the time. we think that that's way too young -- always too young for a heart attack. is that becoming more and more -- >> this piece we all have to understand. for women, less than 55 years old, there is an increased risk of heart disease and we're seeing an uptick of women going to the hospital with heart attacks. >> why is that? >> i got to tell you.

since 1984 this is when the incidence of heart attacks in women went up compared to men. that's exactly when women entered the workforce. >> stress. >> exactly. >> your health you've changed your diet and a lot of things. you've trimmed down. >> you lost 30 pounds. >> 30 pounds. but i have to be honest on national tv. i gained about ten back during the holidays. food is -- that is my toughest challenge. that -- i just like to eat. i grew up in a family where everything revolved around food. >> how are the rest of your levels? i'm sure you check everything now. >> everything is good. every -- cholesterol is good blood pressure is good. >> you're on medication. >> yes. >> will you be for the rest of your life? probably? >> the jury's out on that. we'll see. >> well we're so happy that you discovered it early enough and that you're here. julia, thank you. doc, thanks for the advice. >> you love to see a doctor with shoes like that? that's just so cute. how to find the right fit

isn't it? >> once you get my age, yeah. >> i think what's important is to just take those opportunities that you can get and even if it's not the perfect moment every time every touch for your baby is perfect. when it's from love and making the most of those little moments. >> you know when my kids were little and when my mother and father were giving birth to my family we didn't have the distractions that families have today. we didn't have an iphone that everybody's reaching for every second. all the stimulus of going on around us. what can we do to balance that? >> i think what we've learned is really interesting. that parents are still treating bag time like a sanctuary. technology, most parents are not choosing to bring it into the bathroom. it is the one time that they're not on their cell phone so it is a great opportunity to just be there with your baby making eye contact, touching. and helping with their development. >> well, yes. you never want to leave a child alone in a bath anyway. tara, thank you so much.

we'll go over to hoda woman. >> hey, i'm here with corky. i'm so excited because i have sana with her 12 week old little baby zane. we're getting ready for bath time. what are some important things to do prebath? >> gather all your things together. i like to have a basket with all my necessities and some baby soap and shampoo. clean clothes for afterwards and i have my wash cloths here. >> everything handy. i think a lot of parents wonder about how warm should the water be. if it feels warm enough to you, is that right for the baby? >> you don't want it hot. nice and warm is about 100 degrees but i don't think you have to buy a special thermometer. to it feels nice and warm to your hands. >> unless there is a big diaper explosion or something like that how often does a baby need to have a bath? >> well at least a couple times a week. i actually loved bathing my babies almost every day because i loved how they smelled when they were clean and how their hair was all fluffy and yummy. they're so delicious. but there are three areas i
