6:00 am
then we're talking about a big warmup into the weekend. details straight ahead. >> and getting across the bay, backup not unexpected. bay bridge, similar situation, but on the peninsula, in a full closure will give you the latest on that fuel spill for the bay area. no showers out there just yet as we take this wide look. the bay bridge, city of san francisco, it's monday, march 2nd, you're watching "today in the bay". from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." a very good morning to you, and thanks for joining us. >> a threat against san francisco-based twitter. >> isis or someone affiliated with the organization is threatening to kill twitter employees. scott mcgrew, a threat twitter is unfortunately used to. >> that is so true. i just made references against the ceo back in 2014, this morning's threats are
6:01 am
particularly on jack dorsey, the twitter founder. here you see him in a target. the threats were written in arabic and several translations have been placed online. the threats frankly rather petulant. one reads you didn't get it and kept closing our accounts on twitter, but we always come back. now, the curious thing about the threats though, they do call out jack dorsey, he's the chairman of the board at twitter. he founded the company, but he's really not general lit person you think of when -- generally the person you think of when thinking of twitter. the last time they made threats against the ceo. also curious, isis doesn't call out youtube, doesn't call out facebook which also deletes accounts. we should also point out, we have no independent way of determines if this is from isis, affiliated with isis, some kid in a basement honestly because it's the internet, we just don't nope. >> but they are of course taking the threat seriously. >> twitter is working with the fbi, san francisco pd, as we
6:02 am
been talking earlier, big tech companies, twitter, apple, google, have major established security divisions within, with former fbi, former pd, former spy agencies, et cetera. they have some serious, some serious security. >> so they are prepared and braced in the event -- >> for sure. in the event, and again, who knows where this is really coming from. >> but the second time in recent months i should say. >> that's right. >> thank you very much. all right. 6:0, new this morning, the white house getting the all clear right now after two separate security incidents overnight. last night, somebody stepped over a bike rack serving as perimeter to the white house. that person was arrested. then this morning, someone slipped through a secured door as someone exited the building. person was met by two secret service officers in that arrest. this morning, police in livermore think they have their man. officers made an arrest after a deadly double shooting in a normally peaceful neighborhood. >> yeah, this happened yesterday afternoon near altamont creek

6:04 am
all we know is that it was like a verbal confrontation between the males. >> we just called to see if she was okay. my dad did, and she said that she heard boom, boom, boom, and she wasn't sure what it was. >> reporter: that was a woman describing what her grandmother witnessed from her home located near the scene. police found a gun near the scene. they also did arrest the suspect. the person they're saying responsible for this, they arrested him around 9:00 last night, a few hours after the shooting. they have not told us who he is, but they believe that he knew the two victims. what their relationship was, not clear. hopefully we get a better sense, better idea at this news conference taking place later this morning at 9:00. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, bob. moving now oakland, 6:04, oakland police offering a $20,000 reward for help catching the person who shot and killed a 14-year-old boy. that victim was walking with friends on brookdale avenue near

6:07 am
>> .10 of an inch from the storm system that produced the hail that everybody's been talking about. even since it happened on saturday. yes, that was hail. that was not snow. of course lots of folks talk about winter weather, but hail, that is a severe thunderstorm criteria. hail actually is rain drops that are coupled together in the cloud and then eechblgly fall to the ground with ice, snow, freezes in the cloud, and falls to the ground, frozen. so little science for you this morning. repeat performance with this storm system. so we could actually see more hail this afternoon from some of those storm systems that do form. overall, i don't think everyone will see it, i don't think everyone is going to see the rain because you'll notice as we show you the future cast, it's going to be hit and miss. so if you do see it, have the umbrellas and take cover. of course hail can be pretty damaging if it's big enough. now doppler radar does show showers up near heelsburg near burnville as well and near the bay, santa rosa seeing the
6:08 am

deadly officer-involved shooting. officers got into a struggle with a homeless man believed to be the suspect. the first used a stun gun, that didn't work. officers then say the man tried to grab one of their guns. that's when police opened fire, killing the men. an investigation is right now under way. uber says it's been hacked. and tens of thousands of it's drivers records could be at risk. >> scott mcgrew, this apparently happened quite some time ago, but hearing about it now. >> the hack apparentfully may of last year, uber didn't catch it until september. we're only hearing about it now. drivers names and driver's licenses were stolen, apparently no customer data, now remember, california has a law that says you have to notify people their data was still in within 30 days of discovering that fact. and we are certainly past 30 days. we're trying to nail down why uber took so long to let people know. well, do you remember this fella? it's raj, the feds accused him
6:16 am
of running the biggest insider trading ring silicon valley has ever seen. he's in prison now. from morton's school of business to the longest sentence ever handed down for insider trading. i bring it up because there's an absolutely fascinating article about the woman who helped bring him down in the sunday issue of the new york times magazine. available online as well. she went from a little house in sunny valley to a 9,000 square foot mansion. she was just released from prison. on a happier note, as you have been pointing out, 20 years since jerry and david guided the worldwide web later renamed yahoo, cfo will ring the opening bell on the nasdaq. less than 15 minutes from now. speaking of the nasdaq though, let's talk about nasdaq 5,000, at some point, we're going to cross it. we haven't seen it since march of 2000. got within 11 points. about the closest we've ever been, and it's driving us crazy. we'll get there some time, but

6:20 am

6:21 am
here's the issue, highway 84, vineyard, reports of a crash there. that's gumming up the area and slowing down the area. sanly will take you through the boulevard. get back on to 680. you might want to try this this morning, it'll take you out of some of the backup. nothing too dramatic for the tri-valley. south bay, less dramatic. 101 and 87, bottom of the screen here, general san jose build moving up towards the valley without any major drama. 237 off of 880. in towards san francisco after that crash, and diesel spill cleared. now 101 at 280 completely clear is this is that backup. backup still there getting into the city. we wednesday this shot of the bay area, filled for all lanes on the 880 northbound approach, back to you. four drivers out there, gas prices on the rise once again. jumping another penny overnight. according to aaa, the national average now $2.42 for a gallon

6:32 am
minutes that there is a vote that's scheduled now for late this afternoon in the senate on whether or not to come to the day to sit down with republicans to talk about these issues. the homeland security funding, and immigration. we understand that senate democrats are going to force that vote down, specifically so that the house can vote on a clean funding bill. there's an old rule here that allows the house to bring it up. democrats in the house to bring it up if the senate votes not go to conference. so that seems to be the plan, we'll wait to see what the actual vote is later today. meantime, house speaker john boehner could lose his job as speaker over there. there's some talk about that, not all, but some conservatives who are against this homeland security funding, they don't to want negotiate out, the funding for immigration, they're against that. say that he has been too easy to work were democrats as opposed to stand lg for their principles. so there's concerns that may
6:33 am
try, it's not clear that they have the votes to push him out of that speaker's job. >> conservatives in the house right now do seem to be calling the shots though. thank you very much, tracy potts from washington, d.c. 5:32 right now, time to check the microclimate forecast this morning as we take a peek outside. i can't make out where that's from this morning, but cloudy out there. >> that is just -- >> sam bruno mountain this morning. if you were to make the hike up there, that is what would greet you. >> anthony, are you tracking fog? there's rain showers later in the day. >> yeah, that's the low clouds i was talking about earlier this morning. those clouds have made their way here, and yes, they're here to stay. as we head through the day, mix of sun and clouds for most of us. every now and begun, one of the clouds will produce some showers to keep those umbrellas handy. you can see on the doppler radar right now, make it's way in, first thing that arrived are the clouds, and now snow is falling across parts of the sierra. anywhere from about 4,000 feet and above, expecting about half a foot of snow. back here at home, light showers
6:34 am
are falling across the north bay. just north of santa rosa, and heelsburg near the bays. but otherwise, most of the bay area still dry from san francisco down the peninsula into the south bay. the east bay, and tri-valley all dry as well. now this is the future cast. i want to show you what's going to happen as we head through the day. 9:00, 10:00, the showers will build up off the coastline, by lunchtime, 11:00, 12:00, thunderstorms will develop, anywhere from san jose southward and points of the east bay, eastward. anywhere from the east bay to south bay, you could see some showers and thunderstorms anywhere from about 11:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. otherwise, temperatures are going to be cooled back into the low 60s for the most part with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms. all right. taking you out to the dublin camera where i think i did a really sloppy job of finding a crash. you can't make it out. it's center stream where the onramp merges, it's a distraction before you get to the lows and there, at station. we are looking at a slower drive
6:35 am
here. and we'll look at the map pst that why i've circled there. slowing there, but a bigger issue might be this incident, we talked about earlier, this is highway 84, right around vineyard where there's through livermore and pleasanton. we have a crash there, reportedly blocking both lanes through the major surface street. that's a major problem. folks, you can use stanley to get towards sunol boulevard and 680 if that is your route, might be a good one, but it's slowing as well as more head over there as well. the rest of the bay show an easy drive. flowing slue concord, typical there. same thing for the upper east shore freeway. this is showing a slower drive westbound 92. nothing unusual though through the stretch. back to your maps and we'll show you the peninsula drive as well. south there have, i'm sorry, live look at san jose, look at the maps, saw slowing northbound 101 towards 680. this is the real commute that kicks in, i say real because this one dips and sticks for your morning. 101, 87, 85. >> that's right. >> thanks a lot.
6:36 am

6:41 am
wouldn't have taken us weeks to sbrept the data and to find out where the engines finally stop. >> the urgency for this kind of technology certainly raised. now the trial is expected to use satellite-based positioning technology. it's already on board 90% of long haul aircraft. south carolina mother says she's shocked at what happened when she posted a picture of her daughter online. she posted a picture of her daughter mira on a social media site. she was born with chrome son two duplication syndrome. empty pairs learning and motor skills. then the picture went viral, in a negative way. thousands of people shared the image, some photo shopping in crude captions, and others leaving rude comments. >> how can you do these things, you think it's funny, it's not funny. this is a human being. this is a child. this is a baby. >> the toddler's life expectancy is grim, but her family says they're enjoying her company while they can. time now 6:41, coming up
6:42 am

6:45 am
