at this hour he is reported to be in stable condition. a short time ago he tweeted he was doing well and in good spirits and said he'll be back to work asap. earlier though blood was running down his face and wrist after a man sliced him with a ten inch knife at a morning lecture. president obama and secretary of state kerry both called him to voice support. a short time ago reuters news agency issued this report from north korea media on the attack quote, deserved punishment for conducting military drills. the focus now is on the suspect. during the attack the 55-year-old screamed south and north korea should be reunified. he also may have travelled to north korea six times between 2006 and 2007. in 2010 he threw a stone at the japanese ambassador. he served a prison term for that. the south korean foreign ministry promises a thorough investigation. now to the boston marathon

bombing trial and a startling admission on the first day of system. a never before seen video of the first blast was played in court. it came from a camera inside a sports store. the aim js are difficult to watch. people were left dazed as victims stumbled inside. nbc's jay grey is live in boston this morning. an emotional day one. what can we expect today? >> yeah i think melissa, more emotion. good to talk to you this morning, from survivors, witnesses in this case. also more new ill campers from the blast site itself. a lot too graphic to show on television. in the trial that started with the focus not only on the guilt or innocence here. the trial began with gripping emotional testimony graphic evidence and stunning admission to judy clark who announced during her opening statement, quote, he did it.

acknowledging tareing his role calling it misguided acts and inexcusable but saying his older brother was the mastermind of the attack. a father figure that pulled him into his passion and plan. >> the best chance they have to generate sympathy is his relationship with his brother. >> prosecutors said he believed he was a soldier in a holy war against americans and telling the jury as he planted a homemade bomb behind a row of children near the marathon finish line he pretended to be a spectator but he had murder in his heart. of the first six witnesses four were bombing survivors including rebecca gregory who said i thought that was the day i could die and then cried as she remembered her friendmbered her friend krystle campbell who did. tsarnaev stared straight ahead during all of the testimony showing no emotion and making no eye contact. his legal team chose not to cross-examination any of the

survivors who took the stand. the focus here clearly on the expected penalty phase. history would show the numbers are in the favor of the defense here the last 39 years only three federal defendants have been put to death. that's the latest live here in boston i'm jay gray. milissa, back to you. >> jay thank you. hillary clinton is breaking her silence about the explosive report about private e-mail accounts when she was secretary of state. at 11:30 at night she tweeted i want the public to release my e-mail. i asked the state to release them. they said they would review them for release as soon as possible. clinton's tweet comes hours after the house foreign affairs committee subpoenaed e-mails related to benghazi and two days since "the new york times" report came out. it prompted criticism from both sides of the aisle including this from the "washington post" editorial board. it says, quote she made a deliberate decision to shield her messages from scrutiny, and it reflects a penchant for

control and secrecy that she has exhibited before. nbc's tracie potts is live in washington. tracie how is the state department reacting to hillary clinton's tweet. >> reporter: they also put out an early morning statement after that tweet saying it's going to take some time to go through 50,000 tweets she turned over from her personal account. under subpoena, the state department says this morning they will work fast. reviewing hillary clinton's personal e-mails will take time. in a late night tweet she urged them to turn over everything saying i want the public to see my e-mail. those e-mails may include inquiries about security in benghazi before the deadly 2012 attack. >> it's just not clear what's in them and we still don't know. >> reporter: lawmakers may also secure clinton the e-mails stored on a server at her home. >> we're going to have to send a request to her specifically, directly and personally. >> reporter: the state department says employees can use private e-mail. >> it's not prohibited.

was not then, is not now. >> reporter: clinton was required to turn over her e-mails to state but there's no rule on when. >> it's important that these e-mails are properly maintained and preserved. >> reporter: the concern was her e-mail hacked by foreign governments. >> even the government e-mails are potentially vulnerable. >> reporter: that is certainly a concern but there's no indication from the white house that either they or the state department are looking into any security problems at this point. milissa. >> thaes thank you. now to ferguson, missouri. seeing the first response to the justice department disturbing report on the police department. one police official and two others have been put on administrative leave as the department investigates racist e-mails uncovered by the justice department. ferguson mayor james knowles says this is the first step in fixing the city's policing problems. >> these actions taken by these individuals are in no way representative of the employees of the city of ferguson.

today's report allowed the city 01f problems not only in our police department but in the entire region. >> later today the parents of michael brown will hold a press conference. they will discuss the justice department's decision not to file civil rights charges against former police officer darren wilson in the shooting of their son. in l.a., pharrell williams took the stand in the blurred lines trial. williams told a jury he was trying to evoke the feel of marvin gaye's music but never copied it. williams and singer robin thicke are facing a huge lawsuit. gaye's children claim they stole elements from 1997 hit "got to give it up" for blurred lines. williams testimony is crucial because he wrote the song's music and most of its lyrics. the 2013 hit earned more than $16 million. now for the last big winter storm of this season. right bill? >> that's what we're saying. >> remember, a promise is a

promise. >> it is. doesn't look like -- there's nothing in the pipeline. if we get more snow like this in dallas and memphis and kentucky, i would be shocked. dallas picked up three and a half inches of snow last night. that's the most snow they have had in any storm in five years. that's historic. as far as the warnings go, from dallas, nashville lexington lexington and louisville picked up seven to eight inches last night. kentucky with a banner snowstorm. one spot in the mountains of kentucky and appalachians picked up 17 inches of snow. the temperatures behind this storm are very cold. so it's snow, which is bad enough, behind it it's even worse. we have temperatures going down below freezing all the way down to new orleans. people go to new orleans and areas of the gulf coast for spring break in march. they don't want to be dealing with areas like this. snow in northern mississippi tupelo all the way back up into areas of new england. as far as flights go 2,400 flights have been canceled already because of this storm. travel going to be difficult in
