away from the bay bridge eastbound 24 just from 13 over to the caldecott there's a crash reported, a car went into the grass on the side of the road, no lanes blocked. little activity but no slowing counter commute. the rest of the bay moves smoothly. another recap coming up, back to you. we have new video coming into our newsroom taken moments after the u.s. ambassador to south korea was attacked by a man with a knife. mark lipper was about to deliver a speech in seoul when a man with a ten inch knife slashed his face and arms. he was rushed out of the room bleeding from his cheek and forehead. he received 80 stitches and will be in the hospital for at least three more days. from the hospital he tweeted this out he's doing well and in great spirits and plans to be back on the job as soon as possible. lippert earned his bachelors and masters degree from stanford. stanford is part of a growing list of universities under investigation for their handling of sexual assaults.

that list includes 100 other universities across the country with more than 100 separate assault cases under investigation. the stanford investigation stems from a high-profile assault last year. student leah francis says she was sexually assaulted off campus by a student she previously dated. she said the student was not punished enough and demanded change. happening today a sex discrimination case is getting the attention of silicon valley and get even more captivating this morning. ellen pao said to take the stand in her gender discrimination case suing kleiner perkins for $16 million. pao claims she was denied a promotion because she was a woman and then fired because she complained. it is 4:33, the woman known nationwide as the serial stowaway is expected back in court. marilyn hartman snuck on a flight from minneapolis to

florida last month, arrested at a resort after checking in under the name of another guest. last year hartman made several stowaway tempts at bay area airports and succeeded in boardinï to l.a. a san jose burglary suspect admits to a string of burglaries dating back to 2013. police arrested 19-year-old marco cortez last week after a home burglary. during the interrogation cortez admitted to six other home burglaries in san jose. police recovered property from all seven burglaries and returned them to the owners. police are out in big numbers this morning looking for people who are breaking into cars and stealing valuables in palo alto. tuesday night nine cars were burglarized near busy university avenue. the thieves were looking for electronics, they also targeted garages and rental cars because they often have valuables inside. >> they may look in windows and see an ipad or a laptop bag,

that's all they need to see, they'll smash the window, grab the items and they're gone quickly. >> overnight police arrested two men in a public garage, they found stolen property in their car. officers are not sure if the men are connected to the recent car burglaries. a big win in the city of sunnyvale in the showdown of gun control. it banned the people who live in the city from owni ining high capacity gun magazines. an attorney representing the nra pledged to appeal this decision to the u.s. supreme court. >> 4:35. the next ten days could make or break the future of damps in san jose. the group needs $550,000 by march 14th in order to keep operating. the money is needed for its professional performing company, ballet school and educational

outreach programs. if the ballet fails it would be another blow to san jose's performing arts community. the rep. pertory theater is currently being used for pop-up retail shops. protesters shut down a developer's community meeting last night, they say they're fed up with development. company called maximus tried to present new plans for 1979 mission the housing and retail center at 16th and mission but opponents shouted them town. >> i'm worried about tearing the building down that i live in. >> we're going with what other developers in the city have done. it's not just rental housing. it's for sale middle class housing. >> maximus agreed to fund the creation of 90 affordable housing units and build a new

playground at a nearby elementary school. a south bay woman became an instant millionaire after playing a scratch-off game but the retailer who sold her the ticket wants half of the wings. the owner of usa liquors is suing for breach of contract. he claims when reyes won in january, she promised to split the prize since he was fronting the money. he even produced a note reyes signed. reyes says she used her own money to buy the scratch and promised to give him a fraction if she won. while the lawsuit plays out the disputed half of the money is in escrow. >> i said forget it, why do i have to give it? i win the money. >> reyes' attorney says she has the legal right to change her mind since the money is considered a gift. the store owner and his attorney declined to comment. let's check your weather this morning with christina,

4:37, good morning to you. >> good morning to you, scott and laura, everybody at home. we're starting out nice and clear and it's chilly out there this morning but really a lovely day on tap and temperatures not quite as cold as they were at this time yesterday, 49 degrees to kick off the new day in san francisco, 40 in the tri valley, waking up with 46 degrees here in the south bay, so here's the story, temperatures are going to warm nice and these are your lunch time readings mid to upper 60s at noon as you step outside, maybe getting some lunch today, and then we'll round out the day in the 70s, so pretty big jump in our numbers between yesterday's highs and today you'll likely notice a difference and things will continue to warm as we get into this weekend, peaking on saturday, and sunday looks just a touch cooler. then the pattern changes entirely, we bring in that rain, i'm going to show you your futurecast coming up in my next report. even though it's early there's always something going on at this time. we check in with mike inouye. >> good morning, christina. that's something i wanted to show, flashing lights at the

people are dead after an explosion at a coal mine in eastern ukraine. one person is still unaccounted for. the blast happened yesterday, was reportedly an accident caused by methane gas. in donetsk, the same city that saw russian backed rebels and ukrainian forces for the last year. during opening statements yesterday in the trial of joke tar tsarnaev prosecutors showed the moments after the deadly bombing. it was shot from a sports store. the defense attorney admits tsarnaev committed the crime but argues he was under the influence of his older brother. her goal is to prevent him from being sentenced to death. hbo plans to team one two of the biggest companies. landon dowdy at cnbc world headquarters, good morning.

>> hey, scott, good morning to you. futures are higher after stocks fell on a second day in a row on wednesday. investors reacting to a number of economic reports showing moderate growth in the labor market and services sector ahead of tomorrow's key monthly jobs report. new filings on unemployment, worker productivity and labor costs and factory orders. the dow jumping 106 points its first triple digit loss since january. apple reportedly told suppliers to start mass production on a bigger ipad in the second half of this year versus original plans for this winter. the new ipad which has a 12.9 inch screen is aimed at business users. apple is considering adding usb ports that can transfer data and connect a house and keyboard. hbo is reportedly in talks with apple, google and others to launch its highly anticipated hbo now streaming service. it will cost about $15 a month

and it is expected to launch next month to coincide with the new "game of thrones." it is aimed at attracting or keeping customers increasing ditching expensive tv subscriptions. scott, back over to you. >> thank you. almost half of america is preparing for another round of wintry weather. the latest storm stretches from northern texas to southern new england. governors in alabama, mississippi, west virginia, and new jersey have declared states of emergency. some places are expected to get as much as ten inches of snow today. >> federal offices in washington completely shut down today. there will be no business by the federal government. >> what a difference on the west coast. >> holy cow, here's christina. >> it seems like we've had this equal but opposite pattern going for much of this winter so far and our days of winter are coming quickly to a close, as of the 20th, just two weeks away now from the official start of springtime here in the bay area.

we're going to get an early taste of spring for the next couple of days, temps now mostly in the 40s, on our way to the mid to upper 60s by lunch time today and these are your highs for today. we hit about 69 degrees in the south bay, today up to 73 degrees. 72 in the tri valley. you're getting a taste of the 70s, beautiful san francisco for today. don't forget we spring forward, we're going to lose that hour as daylight saving time begins on the 8th, that's this sunday, 2:00 a.m., you want to change the clocks, if you still have to manually do so and the equinox for spring occurs on the toth. as we get into your weekend, temperatures are going to be really lovely around here, into the mid to upper 70s and then by monday, temperatures just dropping off a little bit in the city, we'll stay nice and warm meanwhile here in the south bay until this rain moves in and it looks like we'll get generous rainfall starting late tuesday into early wednesday and that will continue through thursday and friday potentially measuring up to a half of an inch.

guinea, where large scale testing of an experimental ebola vaccine will soon begin. southern california's superbug outbreak appears to be growing. cedars-sinai medical center says four patients were infected with the deadly bacteria, coming from a contaminated medical scope used in endoscopic procedures. the 67 may have been exposed. similar outbreak at ucla medical center sickened seven patients and two of them died. >> the largest kidney donation chain ever conducted on the west coast begins this morning in the bay area. it's a six-way chain that will take place at the california pacific medical center in san francisco. team of doctors will operate on 12 people from the bay area and the central valley. they'll essentially match good kidneys from six of the people and give them to the six others in need. the procedure will actually take two days. >> that's amazing. we'll talk about that coming up later as well. >> we are. steph curry and cheryl

facebook executive cheryl sandberg is teaming up with top stars in the nba to bring attention to the fight for women's rights at home and in the workplace over the next few months. public service announcements featuring players like sheff curry and lebron james will air during nba games that are partnerships between the nba and sandberg's nonprofit lean in will be announced today. another big step forward in the plan to bring the oakland raiders to southern california. organizers in carson put the plans before voting, they announce to share a stadium in carson if the teams fail to make out deals in their respective hometowns. carrie underwood jumps into sports gear market.'s sporting goods will feature her line of, well, i don't know what of, in the store to make room for the merchandise.'s will remove some of its adidas and reebok.
