i want to update you that the police have confirmed that there was a shooting here off southbound 101 near the connector, and we are here by story road. the reports of the shots fired led to the closure for at least an hour overnight. video of the scene from around midnight shows the lanes of southbound 101 to make way for the nine or so police officers searching across all lanes with the flashlights to look for something that is significant happening here, and we have confirmation that there was a shooting here. traffic is backed up, and we had a report that there was a report woman there, and maybe stuck in that backup, and san jose fire was called out here to respond to a medical emergency, but they would not specify for what. so again, still pretty early on, and we are working to get more

details on what exactly happened here, and we know that the freeway reopened at 1:30 this morning, and for those of you hitting the road, no closure any lo longer here. stephanie trong, today in the bay. >> thank you, stephanie. hayward police are investigating a deadly h hit-and-run. a car hit a 50-year-old man wednesday night. he was taken to the hospital. it happened in the parking lot of an industrial complex along wynton avenue, and the man died of his injuries yesterday. he has not been identified. anyone who witnessed the crash is being asked to contact the hayward police. the case of a brutal murder of a oakland teenager. medical examiner confirms. police say that the star student the and football player was shot while walking on the sidewalk. nobody can understand why he was targeted there.

is a $20,000 reward for information in the case. action hero harrison ford cheated death not only on the big screen, but in real life. he crashed his world war ii era airplane on a golf course surrounded by home, and nobody was hurt on the ground. and we have more now with how ford crashed but yet survived. he is lucky. >> yes, harrison ford, himself, called air traffic control, and in the cool actor's voice, you can hear very real panic. >> 53178, engine failure, and request to return. >> that is just miles from where he took off, and they said that they knew immediately something was wrong with that plane. ford was the only person on board at the time, and that is the good thing, and one golfer on the 5th hole said he was horrified as he saw the plane try to turn back and crash only three hole ss away where from where he was. >> it sounded like, put, put,

put, blah. it sounded like whoever was flying was going to crash. >> and when ford landed, guess who was around? a bunch of doctors playing golf, and so they were the first responders. he suffered several broken bones, and expected to make a full recovery. in a tweet the son said, dad is okay, battered, but okay, and he is every bit the man you think that he is, and he is an incredibly strong man. the faa and the ntsb is on the scene to investigate. and this is not ford's first incident with a plane. it started when he got his license with an instructor in 1999 when he walked away from the helicopter crash, and he resc rescued a boy scout and climber and made another crash landing as well. he says it is an honor to be able to fly. amazing. >> well, for indiana jones, fly,

yes, crash, no. >> and now, to the story of a police officer who pulled his officer in a protest is cleared of any wrongdoing. he was justified to the pull his gun in an anti-police protest. he drew his gun when a protester struck his officer, and his actions may have saved the life of his partner and others. and now, people are being warned that an employee is being accused of inappropriate contact at temple isaiah. lafayette police are investigating the claims that a employee has ina appropriately touched a child. the letter to the community says that we are as parents ourselves committed to doing what you would do in these circumstances, finding what has and has not happened and then acting appropriately, end quote.

firefighters fought a fire for two days in vallejo. you can see the flames there in a building that is boarded up, and known as a homeless camp. and don't forget, we spring forward sunday, and until then we will have great weather, right? >> yes. and we will spring forward and we are going to be 44 in livermore and the weather story of the day is a chilly start making way to nice mild finish, and warm in some spots. the temperatures are climbing into the mid-70s to finish off the day, but in these temperatures, you would want them when you are actually going to be outside. as you break for lunch in the south bay, 68 on the shore, and

the tri-valley, and then rounding out the day, at 3:00, picking up the kids, 73 on the peninsula, and the east shore, and also in the north bay. if you want to make the outdoor plan, it is going to to be spectacularly lovely. and saturday and sunday climbing into the mid-70s, and there is a lot going on in the bay area. 71 degrees in san francisco, and 69 degrees on sunday. but all proceeds for this event benefit the oakland museum, and this a cool event, the 55tht annual white elephant sale in oakland and if you want more information check out my twitter pa page. the temperatures are going to be lovely there, and it is the biggest rummage sale in all of northern california. one man's trash is another man's treasure. that is always a big, big attraction here. and people are looking forward to that one here. >> and my wife would like me to head out there and take some of

my treasure, right? it is treasure that is important stuff. and now, looking over to the westbound 580 and there is the commute there, and you can look at the map and see that the normal volume there for a friday, and not a problem. a crash there off of the freeway there as the dublin interchange so far cleared, and they are slow off of the altamont pass, and the typical friday, so even on the friday, we have the orange showing up already for the westbound p 580. and antioch over here does not have any overflow, and all of the way up to the upper east shore, and the approach to the bay bridge, and the northbridge without delay. we will talk about the bay bridge, and end with the live shot of the bay bridge, as the cash lanes are all open, and ready for the friday commute. the lights to turn the bay bridge into a spectacle are

going to be turned off. >> and some are asking why, but we like the lights, bob. >> yes, they are beautiful. good morning, lauren and scott. an hour from now, we will have a string quartet, and the public is invited to come out the watch the lights go out for the final time, at least until the next 11 months. you are wondering why they are turning off the lights? well, today, march 6th is the day that the permit expires and they have to take them down so that caltrans can do required work on the cables, but the lights will be back in time for the super bowl, and the man taking sure that happens is ben davis who is are the the arts illumination board, and you had this a ha! moment, and what is that moment? >> well, i wanted to find a way for the bridge to shine. it open in 1936 and really it

was a celebration until the golden gate bridge opened, and then it took a cinderella role. so i decided it is not just a bridge, but a canvas of lights. even though it scared me, it filled me with love. i have been blessed with some of the artists along the way. i had not known some of the artists before the idea arrived. >> so they will be turned off today, and then you had to raise private money, $4 million, to get them back up, and in 11 months that is going to happen, they will be back up? >> yes. >> will it be different from what we see? >> y everybody loves them including the artist, and leo is bri brilliant, so we will give him the freedom to come up with the ideas over the next 11 months.

the bay." a very good morning to you, and it is 5:14 and google is motoring into the car insurance game. the company launched a new feature comparing auto insurance quotes for 14 carriers participate manage the service. the policies can be bought online or through an agent. google gets a cut from the sales. an analyst says that they are trying to learn more about the industry so they can sell policies of their own. and we are a few hours away from the monthly jobs report. and we are waiting for the monthly report, and we go the lindsey dowdy. >> yes, that is right. the futures are opening slightly higher, a on wall street, and the investors are waiting for the big economic news, the monthly jobs report, and expecting a steady month of hiring with the forecast calling for addition of 240,000 jobs, but however, the bad weather could hit the construction,

if you send more than a five-minute break between texts people will get upset. and in the north bay, where it is 67 degrees, today at lunchtime, these are the lunchtime number, and this is the story of the day called rapid warming. to round out the day, in the tri-valley, and south bay later on until 3:00, we will have the time change as well coming up sunday at 2:00 a.m., and it is always a good idea to change the batteries in the smoke detector, and keep the loved ones and pets nice and safe. do that twice a year in the time chan change. and now, you can see from the streamline data we have a ridge of pressure here. and as a result the temperatures are going to be warming up significantly. we have downsloping winds and negating anything affecting the warmth here. and getting into the weekend, we

will have temperatures main the mid-70s, and if you want the sun or the warmer beach weather, sunday is not much cooler there. and it is a drop to 71 in san francisco. and then we will bring the temperatures up here in the south bay monday to tuesday with a slight on shore e flow. and the rain is going to be moving in and by wednesday at 8:00 a.m., we will be tracking the showers, and that is going to last until 8:00 a.m. wednesday, and then heavier wave thursday and measuring about half an inch of rain in the south bay if it plays out right. more towards half an inch in the north bay, and it is so pretty in the bay area with the hills such a lovely green. this is maybe a longer extension, and maybe two weeks. and the good news is that as we head into march and april, all of the long range data is saying that we will see more rain, and that is going to be good news,

because we need it. friday and saturday, staying cool, but drying out for the following weekend. we will have more on this coming up, and plus what is going on in the bay area. many events to choose from and many of them are free for you and the family on the way. and first, the drive. back over to you, mike. >> and i have the golden gate bridge here which is a great definition, which is not free for you if if you are driving. that is the causeway bridge. you come in south where you pay the toll. and sorry, looking a at the bay bridge as well, coming into the city, and no backup at the bay bridge, and the toll plaza, and now the map with both of the brid bridges, and the bay bridge toll plaza, and an easy drive into or out of san francisco and moving farther north into the san rafael, and no delays here, and from vallejo and the eastbound direction, the commute direction, moving very easy, and

lighter build around the bay, but we will have slower spots. already in the tri-valley, some slowing off of the dublin as l well. typical pattern the, and no reason for alarm. the yellow here is down below 60 miles per hour. as we move out, and show you the view of the bay area, and we will show you to drive of the light volume here. this is the underneath the bridge here, and no change for the silicon valley or the peninsula. good stuff. what we exposed here in the bay area is not getting attention in the washington, d.c., are the feds protecting the whistle-blowers? our insiders say no. vicki nguyen report s about it. >> last week we told you about a whistle-blower who blew the

>> and a live look outside. the bay bridge lights to savor for one last time, and i will tell you why. this is "today in the bay" at 6:00. from nbc bay area, this is today in the bay. >> good morning, i'm scott mcgrew, and sam brock has the day off. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. a reported shooting near 101 shut down the freeway, and what do you know? >> that is right. we got new details from the san jose police who said that chp car with two officers inside near tully road reported getting shot at. no officers were injured, but

the san jose police went to h help, and this is 11:30 last night, and nobody was hurt, and everything is back open, but it did force the closure of 101 southbound and as you can see, the officers are looking around all lanes using the flashlights, a and it appears they shutdown the southbound lanes, because they believed that possibly the bullet is from a passing vehicle perhaps coming from this direction, southbound and maybe looking for the bullet casings for instance, and this went on for an hour until san jose police cleared the scene. it took chp a little bit longer to reopen the stretch of 101 and caused a little bit of the traffic build up, but not much. and we have reports that the chp had reports of a pregnant woman in the area, and officers were searching for her, but at 1:15 in the morning, they had not found her. and theyt got the call to respond to a medical emergency out here, but they would not

specify when. and the update is that san jose police were investigating getting hit by at least one bullet, and no suspect in custody. in san jose this morning, stephanie trang. >> and it is developing a story in jerusalem, and one man in custody of what one man is saying is a terror attack the. israeli police tell nbc news that a man in a car slammed into a crowd near a jerusalem police station the, and then he got out of the car and threatened people with a knife. a security guard shot him. he is in the hospital this morning. five bystanders were hurt, but none seriously. new this morning, a man accused of stabbing a u.s. ambassador near north korea's courtroom, and kim je jong will

be charge d with attempted murder. the ambassador was visited by the prime minister in a seoul hospital. he graduated from stanford in 1988. and also, the latest on the plane that skidded off of the runway in laguardia. this is the sight of massive cranes lifting the body of the airplane into a hangar. the plane was trying to land yesterday morning, be but the jetliner went up the embankment, and just feet from ending up in the freezing river. the cell phone shot by the people on board, and several of the passengers used the exitt to get out, and the slides did not deploy, and they had to scoot out, and none of the passengers were hurt seriously.

inmate in the long unsolved gypsy hill murders. six women were brutally murdered on the e peninsula. recent dna evidence links an inmate to two of the murders. and now the san mateo judge will assign doctors to determine if he is competent to stand trial. he has not entered a plea. the woman at the center of the silicon valley gender discrimination case could take the stand today. ellen powell was to testify yesterday, but the hearing was cut short because one of the jurors had a family emergency. she is accusing kind er kline o not promoting her because of her gender. the d.c. firm says that powell told him that there were inappropriate comments made on a 2011 business trip. in the flight, one of the

passengers said that he was allegedly thinking of hiring marissa mayer, because she was quote really hot. breaking news, the february jobs report released moments ago and employers added 295,000 jobs in february, and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.5%, and better than expected from the e kconomists and good numbers in all of the job stat tstatus and even though delayed, they are good. >> and bitter cold, and they are really feeling it across the northwest. and meteorologists are saying that the temperatures could be 30 degrees below average. many states have canceled school for kids n. kentucky, there are worries of flooding with as much as two feet of snow yesterday, and experts say that the temperatures will go up today, and the snow will melt, and it has to go somewhere. >> so they are below average, and we are above average, and that is where we would rather

very good friday morning to you, and it is 5:42 and more on hillary clinton's e-mail scandal. the state department is sifting through tens of thousands of official e-mails from her personal account. tracie potts is joining us live from capitol hill, and now the democrats are coming to clinton the's rescue. >> they are, and they are saying

that there is nothing to it, and the story of why she kept the e-mails on the server at home has no legs, but the republicans strongly disagree, and they are asking the state department to look into it, and they are already sifting through 55,000 e-mails that she turned over as part of the investigation of what she knew about the security of the benghazi consulate. they said that they are going to be looking through them, and keep anything that involves national security before complying with the order to turn it over to the congressional committee, and to make them public. they have to figure out what is top secret, and what is not. in the meantime, her critics are saying that the fact that she is stored them on a server at her home as opposed to the state department as required is raising lots of questions, and those are questions that we have yet to hear from, and beyond that, we have not heard from her or seen her on camera since this broke. >> very, very interesting, and

es ppecially the server issue. thank you, treacy. >> and the final report on the deadly sandy hook report is to be released today including areas of school safety and mental health and protection of gun violence. the state formed a 16-member panel after the school shooting three years ago in newtown, connecticut. no charges will be filed against kurt busch because prosecutors say not enough evidence to support charges. he is accused of beating, and choking his ex-girlfriend. and they say that driscoll is a woman scorned who is out for revenge after she was dumped. new video of dramatic helicopter rescues in the italian alps when 200 skiers were stranded in their cable cars when the wind caused the

cables to stop, and the threat of the wind could cause the cable to snap, so the held ko helicopters went in for the rescue. and the light on the bay bridge are going dark, and dark for months. >> and a lot of folks are asking, why? and are they going to raise a glass before hitting the off switch, bob? wi? >> well, because the permit ran out. march 6th, 2015 is when the permit ran out for the light insulation here, and they have to take them down so that caltrans can do the are required maintenance on the bay bridge, but the good news, it will be be back in 11 months in time for the super bowl. you can see that they are making a to-do about it this morning, and people showing up to enjoy the free pastries and the coffee, and you came out here and you could be home in bed, and why out here? >> i wanted to see it one last time before the 11-month hiatus or whatever you want to call it.
