if anyone has seen the 40-year-old escapee, though, it hasn't helped law enforcement track him down. he's been on the loose since friday when he broke out and fought and injured a sheriff's deputy and ran away from valley medical center. that's where he was for a doctor as appointment. he injured the deputy and escaped into the neighborhood where we are this morning, despite a search including a chopper and search dogs, carter gave the officers a slip. >> it's surprising that no one has seen the guy or heard about him or found out where he is. that's kind of concerning. >> carter is 5'11", 220 pounds, he's african-american. in his pick his hair is slicked back, but officials say on the day he escaped his head was shaved. witnesses say they reported seeing a burglar leave,

authorities say it may have been carter and he may have changed his clothes. if you see him, officers say call the authorities, do not try to apprehend him yourself. in san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. hayward police are investigating an attempted kidnapping form the most recent one happened friday near whitman and sycamore avenues. in both cases, a girl was able to fight off a man and help. police have released this sketch as a man wanted in friday's attack. there are some similarities and differences between this man and the one involved in the february 20th attack. investigators are hoping someone with information about either attack will come forward. pleasanton police are searching for two robbers accused of running down a security guard. >> we're live at the home depot

this morning. bob, you have some security images? >> reporter: we do. they clearly capture at least one of the suspects. these picture from a security camera on saturday night showing the suspect. you can see she's a woman browsing through the flowers being sold just inside the home depot here in pleasanton. police tell us she went on to steal several power tools. the store security ended up catching her. the loss prevention officer was detaininging her outside the parking 4r09 presumably waiting for police to arrive. that's when her accomplice pulled up, plowed into the security officer knocking him onto the ground. the thief escaped the man and woman together the loe prevention officers wasn't seriously hurt, an injury to his knees, along with scrapes and bruises, is expected to be okay. you've seen the woman, she's white, around 25 to 30, around

5'6", wearing a light-colored shirt, black leggings with glitter, white tennis shoes. there's no description on her accomplice other than he's a white manner. the get-away car, the only description is gold, an older model lexus or acura. glad that guard is okay. thank you, bob. after several days of delays we'll finally hear from the woman at the center of the sexual harassment trial. ellen powell could take the stand later. she claims that kleiner perk as soon as discriminated against her and then fired her when she complained about it. she is suing for $16 million. the iphone sold 100 million units in three years, the ipad sold 100 million units in two years. i do think the hype level is implies that the apple watch will be as big as those devices.

>> people love their apple. is it the next big thing? in just a matter of hours, apple will unveil the company's newest device and make the case for why it's a must-have as much as a smartphone. apple debuted the watch last year, but kept many of the details quiet. >> we're talking about the i watch. stephan stephanie chuang is. >> the event is called spring forward. you can see the apple logo on the yerba buena center for the arts. there's security already here. this is where tim cook is expected to answer specifics, including when exactly people can buy the watch. it was last september when cook gave a preview of the capables, with features like messaging, applepay and fits in tracking. it's like an extension of the iphone. the question is will consumers have an appetite for this wear

actechnology. customers we spoke with had mixed reactions. >> i look forward to the connectivity with my other devices. >> i can imagine it will take some time for the game developers to do stuff for the actual hardware. so i want to wait and see, i think. >> reporter: we know the apple watch starts at $349 with a luxury line going for thousands, maybe even tens of thousands. we'll learn more about the price as well this morning. this is a very big product launch for apple, the first new device since steve jobs died and cook took over as ceo. plenty of critics so far on whether people will want to buy the watches. samsung and other company versus pushed wearables with not much success. we'll look at apple's order and that might explain more.

and i'll show youed timing and intensity. the next storm moving in quickly. first let's check your drive. welcome in mike inouye. >> look at the bay bridge where we did have a backup, but it's all cleared now. overnight we have a couple cash lanes closed, and then they open when the volume starts to build. no big deal out of maze, an easy flow down the east shore freeway as well. a great approach through oakland, berkeley and richmond. there was some metal debris reported in antioch right around hillcrest. a smooth drive on 160 onto westbound i-64. novato to mill valley down toward the golden gate bridge. over here in the trivalley, a little slowing now. we had the build out of the eight that month pass, pretty typical over here, as we're traveling westbound for 580.

teak a live look outside, this tike it's from over foster city this morning. a little haze in the air out there. christina will clear things up as well as the forecast coming up. it's 5:13. president obama pushing tech. today he'll introduce a new program to train and hire tech workers. the idea is to drive higher income employment. the president has already received commitments from more than 300 employers nationwide, as well as local governments. an education would help you in your path and $50 million for more college graduates. that's the deal governor jerry brown is trying to strike with california colleges. the governor will award that money when it finds -- to earn degrees in less time. 52 colleges are competing for that cash. san francisco city college and san francisco state are front-runners right now. their plan is to create small learning communities. it will give students more support and a clear path to transferring.

now, some cal state universities are taking new steps to try to limit enrollment. "los angeles times" reporting that fresno state and cal state northridge are among the schools seeking to enact new admission -- enrollment across the system is way up. csa a looking to increase its graduation class as part of that palace, also wanting to allow junior college transfers from just 17 communities colleges. trustees, though, must still approve the plan before it can go into effect. laura? >> sam, as you well know, the stock markets were crushed on friday after a better than expected jobs report. scott, it an interest hike seems like a sure thing? >> the futures the, show they expected to fall further today. the american economy added 295,000 jobs, way more than we expected, and that's more than 3 million in just the past year. unemployment rate dropped to

5.5%, that's a full percentage point be low that what the fed was targeting. okay. wages were not as strong as expected, but remember, inflation is a nonissue. in fact, some data shows prices falling far enough that in a weird way everybody got a raise. our paycheck pays for more. but let's leave it to an expert landon dowdy, good morning. >> hey, scott, good morning. futures are mixed today as markets are coming off the worst week since the end of january. the strong jobs report you were mentioning is raising concerns that the fed may think the economy is improving well enough to start raising interest rates sooner rather than later, and possibly even this summer. new economic data today, but we get reports on retail sales and inflation. on friday, 278 points fell, the nasdaq lost 55. scott, back over to you.

year. if you get call breaks the rules you could face a fine up to $500. you could be paying more for your water. three of the largest agencies are considering rate hikes up to 30%. they'll use the money for things like buying water from outside the bay area to help meet demands that local reservoirs can't fill. here's a look at the levels. lexington just at 45% of capacity, just over that. anderson about the same. calero just over 43% capacity, and chesbro just under half of its capacity. i know in morgan hill they're restricting water use to just one day a week. >> wow. >> after 5:00 p.m. >> measures getting more stringent. >> brown is the new green. christina loren joining us, and you said we had a window of rain, which is even better than a just a single rain event. >> yeah, looking good for rain a

authorities say the women sneaked off from a tour group right before the vandalism. police say signs were clearly posted in english, and not italian, not to deface the centuries-old site. the women may end up paying what they did. the last tourest was sentenced to four months in prison and fined $20,000. >> who does that? it's 5:26 right now. lapd pioneering a way to stop crime before it happens. the department uses heat maps, technology, and statistics to identify crime hot spots. pilots then fly over those hot spots on the theory that would-be criminals won't commit the crime when there's a police helicopters hovering overhead. lapd officials say stats show it's actually working. if this experience is successful, lapd could use drones to conduct patrols. an idaho man could update his facebook status to busted. joey patterson behind bars after revealing his location on

neighborhood where we are this morning. he is a 40-year-old man, wanted on five charges of child molestation. santa clair county sheriff's department is still looking for him here, and also looking in campbell where he was arrested last year. right now he's also wanted for fighting and injuring that sheriff's deputy before fleeing valley medical center. despite a chopper and canine search of the neighborhood where we are, he managed to give officers the slip. >> it's kind of surprising that no one has seen the guy or heard about him our found out where he is. that's kind of concerning. >> reporter: we also talked with other parents who say they're not letting their children out of their sight at all. carter is 5'11", 220 pounds, african-american. in the picture he has his hair slicked back, but as of friday, he hair was shaved. witnesses report a burglar

fitting that description may have been leaving these condos nearby. carter is suspected against of five counts of child molestation, but officers say if you come upon him or see him, do not try to apprehend him yourself. make sure you call authorities. >> thank you, chris. san jose police are investigating a shooting that left one man injured. it happened about 9:00 last night on story road near mt. pleasant high school. officers say they found a wounded man when they arrived on scene. he was taken to the hospital for treatment. police have not made any arrests in that case. a growing shrine for a man shot and killed in a drive-by shooting. it's on south almaden and oak street, where two men in their 20s were shot early saturday morning. both were taken to the hospital, one of whom died there. the other is expected to recover. police have yet to release any information about the gunman.

a muni train struck a man in the head during a fight. police say two men were fighting on the plal form, one pushed the other into an oncoming train. the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. pleasanton police right now searching for two robbers accused of running down a home depot security guard. we are live at the home depot. there's some security images this morning, bob? >> reporter: there are. good morning, laura and sam. a man and woman were involved in this crime over the weekend. a security camera did not capture images of the man, or at least they have not been released. they did get clear shots of the woman. you can see her browsing the floral section. as you can see, she's white, around 25 to 30 years old, about 5'6", 160 pounds, police releasing those images. if you recognize her, you can

help them out finding her. police say she stole several power tools. store security actually caught her, was detaining her out front in the parking area when her accomplice drove up and knocked down the loss prevention officer. he's going to be okay, hurt his knee, scraped some bruises, but not life-threatening. the woman was able to get into the getaway car and escape. the only description of her accomplice, the man, the driver, is that he's a whiteman. the car is gold in color, either an older model lexus or acura sedan. bob redell. >> thank you very much, bob. police say during a sweep by the san jose police department they found a number of child important ography videos on nguyen's laptop. he's well known throughout the bay area for his ability to produce photo-like suspect

catches. the man who admitted stealing cookie money right out of a girl scout's hand will be in a courtroom today. last month he stole hundreds of dollars from girl scouts outside a safeway store. he may enter a plea today. in an exclusive interview with nbc bay area, he told us he needed money to feed his addiction to heroin. he says he regrets what he did. airbnb hosts could be facing a hotel tax. now pallet alternate city leaders are looking to do the same thing. at today's meeting they'll look at the effects of the online home-sharing business on the city of palo alto. if approved, the tax could take effect next year. peninsula daycare center destroyed fiveiers in a plane crash is reportedly rising from the ashes. a small plane crash destroyed the center in east palo alto.

three passengers died, all tesla executives. the plane struck the daycare center on the way down. no one on the ground was hurt. "mercury news" reports that the daycare reopened last week, with the first child expected today. it is the first of its kind, solar-powered aircraft, which is on journey around the world. the solar impulse took off from the middle east last night with the two founders on board. the 5,000-pound plane is ability to fly day and night, using more than 17,000 solar cells in its wings. you might remember that a prototype flew out of moffett field back in 2013 before completing a successful flight across america. the pirates hope to complete this around the world flight by the middle of june. >> what would the wright brothers say now? >> this is the latest iteration of that. we are in a solar kind of mood, then some sun solar kind of mood. christina loren is our ray of sunshine. >> thank you. happy monday to you. taking a live look at san jose,

part to more of the metering lights being turned on just after the last report. let's look at use map, because we typically don't see the slowing off the berkeley curve. reports of some sort of stalled vehicle around the approach, though we didn't see anything in that live camera as well. we're tracking both of those things. there was a burst of traffic, but a little later than we see the build also at the toll plaza. some folks maybe leaving the house a bit later, and we have been reminding you you lost that hour over the weekend. still moving smoothly, but we'll watch for changes in patterns, nothing dramatic so far. there's your north bay, a live look shows you the golden gate bridge yourself. but no problems down and out of the waldo tunnel and across to marin and into the city yourself. there's the san mateo bridge off to foster city. a quick look at the rest of the bay to show you there are no major problems.

the trivalley has the biggest build. back to you. >> thanks, mike. the dow fell more than 200 points on friday. today it doesn't look too good, either. >> we're certainly watching apple stock carefully as they give us information on the new watch coming out. >> i could think of a time when apple has had two announcements about the same product. it seems like another rough morning for the broader market after ending one of the worst weeks of the year on friday. you mentioned apple stock. we learned last week apple will be added to the dow industrials later this month. it's not unusual for stocks to be traded on the nasdaq exchange, but to appear on the dow, intel and cisco are dow components. apple will meet with reporters and analysts this morning to talk about the apple watch for the second time. this means the company will be either very excited or very worried about the watch's reception.

stephanie chuang is outside the center. >> reporter: a lot of eyes on this. in fact tim cook tweeted 20 minutes ago he got an extra rest ahead of this morning's event. there's been security all morning long. this is the first launch of a new product since steve jobs died and cook took over as ceo. all new product line, anyway. last september cook gave a preview of the capabilities with features like messaging, applepay and fitness tracking. it's like an extension of the iphone. the question is will consumers have an appetite for this waerpable technology? other companieses have pushed wearable, but none have enjoyed much mainstream success. >> it's a real question. the i phone, people weren't expecting much. apple hoped to take 1% in the market in 2007. it did way better than that in the end. the ipad, a lot of people

released a statement, he at not going anywhere. the immediate use reports are without merit and quite frankly ridiculous. rumors started after this late-night tweet. he said the 49ers are taking over for kaepernick. in later tweets, he specifically mentioned the eagles and bears have shown interest. that could shake things up. this latest rumor coming at a tumultuous time for the 49ers. they have parted ways with the head coach obviously in december. and frank gore is expected to sign a three-year deal with the eagles tomorrow when free agency opens. gore is a 49ers' all-time leading rusher. now, we understand christina, that the rumors are not true according to the 49ers, but maybe the raiders could use some boost, your team over there is on the market to switch? >> they're just trying to find a stadium at this point. no, we hope he doesn't go
