south bay this morning. police from san jose to sunnyvale are in the hunt for two carjacking suspects after an all-night search. "today in the bay's" bob redell talked to police and joins us live with what we've learned. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. around 30 or 40 minutes ago the sound of two flash bangs in stevens creek where police think they might have the two carjacking suspects cornered, next to this neighborhood right now in sunnyvale, remington and robbing way, which is under lockdown for several blocks. no arrests so far but law enforcement from san jose, sunnyvale and other law enforcement consider the men could be armed and dangerous. around midnight they used a gun to carjack a man from his escalade. you can see the cadillac escalade is being brought out from the scene where it was dumped. police won't say how but they
4:33 am
were able to track the escalade to meridian and willow, after a reported carjack. and that's where pursuit began in san jose through the downtown area up 280 to the neighborhood in sunnyvale. the men ditched the escalade by the gate to the creek that runs along highway 85, dropped a small handgun by the suv and disappeared into the creek area. >> so we've used the k9 to search for thes÷&ñsuspect. the k9 has led us to an area that is like a water culvert type of area. i haven't been over to see that but it's possible that our suspects could be in and around that area and that's the area that we're looking at right now. >> reporter: and that piping, that culvert, it's not big enough for someone to walk in but it is large enough that somebody could crawl inside and be hiding in there. they're looking for two young hispanic men believed to be in

4:36 am
shot, just because they were police officers. >> police say the shots came from an area across from the department, that's where protesters gathered to decry the resignation of the embattled police chief. though a department of justice report accused him of targeting african-americans and accused his department of bias, he was going to resign with a severance package including a year's pay from the city and that's what the demonstrators were really protesting. as for those officers, both of them were transported and conscious when taken to the hospital. this morning their condition has not been updated but we have been told they are expected to survive. this is a develop story, we expect to get more details in the next half hour. >> another confrontation in ferguson. kris will continue to follow the latest developments of the story out of ferguson all morning long. tune in to the "today" show for additional developments.
