>> good morning. starting out with mild conditions out there, new week, brand new forecast. cooler temperatures this week, and just to our north, for us, fair chance for showers each and every day, not expecting much. ly show you the analysis coming up. first one to check your drive, good morning, mike. view from san francisco, this is the approach coming in out of oakland. the reason i show this, overall the entire bay just like that shot of the bay bridge, light volume and no real slowing. coming off of that shot, we have southbound 101 just off of eastbound 80. there was a crash there in lanes as going back cesar chavez and approaching hospital curve. chp says they have all lanes clear. traffic break that appeared far few minutes, looks like it is clear. into and out of san francisco. so far, that was the only thing blocking freeways for the last couple of minutes. >> thank you very much, mike. 4:31, new this morning, one

passenger dead after a taxi plunged off a highway in fairfield. interstate 680 meets 80. chp says a taxi shot off a roadway and went from 70 feet down and embankment. landed on frontage road in central way. the other passenger suffered serious injuries. the driver was not hurt. the chp says the taxi was going from san jose towards sacramento. the crash is under investigation. former san francisco 49er ray mcdonald is filing suit this morning to clear his name from a recent sexual assault allegation. they released mcdonald back in december after a pattern of poor decision-making. that was a short term after a woman accused him of sexual assault at his house. mcdonald has yet to be charged, but his attorney telling the mercury news, as long as this case remains in limbo, his client can't find work in the nfl. the statement from his lawyer to the merc calls the accusations false and malicious. part reads quote, despite the

passage of three months and in the face of video footage from the security system, showing his accuser having clearly consensual sexual relations with him in his hot tub, the da's office is not active at the time. the da's office is not commenting. bruce miller is a center of a domestic violation investigation. he got into a fight with his fiancee at the river mark plaza in santa clara. happened earlier this month. smashed her cell phone and threw her to the ground. district attorney's office hasn't filed charges. they aren't punishing him yet. a brutal attack may have been part of a gang initiation. his mom says his friends spotted the man watching nearby while two others attacked him. once he assaulted, he was left with major head trauma.

right now he's in intensive care. >> hugged me and kissed me and said, i love you mom. i asked him where are you going? the mall, and that's it. and now he's on a breathing tube. >> the parents say they're frustrated, its been five days since the attack and san jose police still have not contacted them about the investigation. we reached out to the police department who sent us a statement which reads in part, the case has been assigned to our gang investigation unit, and they will followup with the family. building resumes instead of rap sheets. that is planned for the teens in the south bay. his pushing a new program to get troubled teens out of gangs and into summer jobs. microsoft made a financial commitment to the $1 million program, target and lowe's pledged to hire hundreds of teens. they will focus on those living in gang-impacted areas. >> we know if we have a teen that has nothing to do, we have trouble on our hands. we need to ensure that we can keep kids involved in school,

sports, or in jobs. >> the city program is expected to go through the summer. funding for a fall program is also being proposed. opportunity students will be gathering for a vigil in horne of a student found murdered in her east bay home. all while investigators still hunt for her killer. this 37-year-old woman was shot to death in her apartment. the body discovered last monday. investigators say, some of her belongings were found dumped in a richmond neighborhood. a homeowner described the odd find. >> came right back in with two bags and says, my family's been here. and this is high end purse in here. and he said there's id in it. and i said well bring it in, we'll have to find out if it's stolen we can return it. >> she contacted the police once she found bloody clothes. ucsf vigil starts at 5:00. three men charged with

kidnapping and sexual assaulting a wop. the woman managed to escape. during that time, the men beat, raped, and threatened her. the officers involved in the deadly police shooting. officers thomas keaner, curtis, and adam davis were serving a search warrant at a home on east avenue. the suspect identified as james took off on a motorcycle. after a short chase, he fell off and that's when police say he reached for a gun. that incident is still under investigation. the man arrested for shooting two police officers in ferguson, missouri, says he pulled the trigger, but did not mean to hurt any officers. after an intense search, that lasted a little more than three days, police arrested jeffrey williams. he's the person who wounded two officers in ferguson during a protest last week. williams reportedly told

officers he fired guns but the shots were not meant for the officers. the officers gyres are not life-threatening. the infamous heir to one of the country's wealthiest real estate families heads to california today to face murder charges. and it's partially because of an hbo special. robert durst stands accused of killing a friend in los angeles 15 years ago. he's also suspected of playing a role in his wife's disappearance decades ago. he was acquitted of murdering his neighbor in texas 12 years ago. there was new evidence in the l.a. murder after he rambled what appeared to be a confession. fbi agents arrested durst saturday in new orleans. ironically the lawyers warned him not to do the documentary series. >> they said, you can't help yourself. right now you're a free man, 100%, you say something inadvertently, and you'll find yourself charged in new york or in are charged in los angeles.

>> the 71-year-old is being held right now without bail. a hearing is set this morning to extradite durst back to l.a. happening today, another chance to speak of and be heard on a controversial issue in san francisco. there will be a public reform regardi inin ining salvador's p. he wants to change teacher contracts to include morality clauses. some people have protested the move because they do not approve of his language against homosexuality and contraception. new report says state water regulators are not strict enough with enforcing. people had to cut back water use by 20% or face a fine of up to 500%. there will be a meeting to vote on whether or not to extend or to broaden those penalties. >> can't forget, need to all make a difference, rain would a help, wouldn't and. >> christina tracked last week's

event, with and this week, christina. >> interesting forecast, glad you asked, sam, good morning, laura. i wanted to start the live look at san jose. nice and clear to kick off the new day. temperatures are mild out there. probably can go sans jacket in san francisco. waking up at 58 degrees there, 56 in the south bay with some changes headed your way as we head into the south bay and cooler conditions. we hit almost 90 degrees in the south bay over the weekend. and temperatures today, much cooler, running about 15 degrees cooler on average from where we ended up on saturday. here is where we're headed for your st. patrick's day tuesday. comfortable conditions. you can wear short sleeves, green, of course, wednesday and thursday, temperatures stay nice and mild, but here's the thing, the jet stream's going to stay right to the north all week long. and for us, that brings about 10 to 20% chance for showers every single day this week. i don't think we're going to see much, but enough to keep our nice atmosphere moist and that's a good thing. it's been dry out there lately. when it comes to fire danger and

of a wedding alone reached an all-time high, any guesses, sam? >> i'm going to go with $31,000. >> gave it away there. it's actually 4.5% increase from 2014. this is the fourth year in a row the cost has gone up. 70% of weddings cost between 10,000 and $65,000. save those pennies. it has been a brutal winter for boston, and the nonstop snow that's broke records this weekend. it's the snowiest season since the 1800s. more than 108 inches of snow fell this season. even though spring starts next week, there's another chance and a new record in the new england area. >> yeah. >> they are getting hit. well certainly a different story in southern california, marathon runners hit the pavement in record heat. it was so hot, some runners had to go to the hospital. l.a. marathon organizers started yesterday's race 30 minutes

early and set up misters to try to help keep things cool. as temperatures reached 90 degrees, dozens of runners had to head to the hospital, suffered from heat exhaustion and dehydration. another 90 runners were treated along the race course. >> yeah, not the conditions you would want for running a marathon. >> certainly. meantime, you want to go for a run today or this week, you could be greeted by milder temperatures. >> that'd be nice. >> more information, good morning. >> good morning, sam. good morning, laura, everybody at home. hopefully you had a good weekend. back to the grind this morning. we are going to see a comfortable day ahead. temperatures in the 70s, filtered sunshine is the weather story of the day. mid-50s to start on our way to the mid-60s just about everywhere. nice conditions by lunchtime today. climbing into the low 70s, and we'll round out the day just a touch above of your noon temperatures. mid-70s in some spots. that'll be the tri-valley. we have the jet stream just to the north this weekend, for us, that means we have a fair chance

for light showers each and every day. i want to show you a future cast, monday at 7:00, little bit of shower activity rolling through the north bay specifically. then as we wake up and meet back here tomorrow, drizzle possible, onshore flow picks up with the jet just above us. then as we head throughout your wednesday, better chance for light showers, especially up and down the peninsula and here in the south bay. we'll be watching that for you. don't need your umbrella this week. really might need your sweater most mornings and peel it off by about lunchtime. 71 degrees for st. patrick's dpap it's so nice to have our hillsides nice and green. we've been without that because of the drought. but this year, so far, we're doing okay in terms of average rainfall. we'll talk about that coming up. 73 degrees for your wednesday, mid-70s by thursday, and then friday, the first official spring, spring arrives on friday. this week, we are going to have a beautiful day with temps in the low 70s. more on that and we'll tell you what's going on for st. patrick's day if you haven't made plans, coming up, back to

you. >> thank you. it is 4:49 right now. three british teenagers suspected of planning to join isis militants in syria are now out on bail. they were deported from turkey. police police arrested two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism. this comes weeks after three british teenagers, girls, disappeared from their homes in london. they were last seen boarding a bus for the syrian border. the secretary of state, john kerry, is in switzerland this morning negotiating with iran over nuclear sanctions. it seems the u.s. might allow them to maintain a small weapon's program. back in washington, republicans want to put a stop is to to that deal. 47 gop senators of course wrote a letter to iran's leader warning that the congress must have a say in any final negotiations. that led to a scathing response from kerry. >> letter was absolutely calculated. directly to interfere with these negotiations.

>> he's negotiating a deal that is going to put iran on the path to a bomb. >> now framework for this iran nuclear deal must be in place by the end of the month. congress is looking ahead at the nation is about to hit the debt ceiling. the temporary suspicion of the law expired overnight. the treasury department says starting today, it will begin taking extraordinary measures to keep the government from defaulting on it's debt. it hasn't said what those measures will be. officials say their plan should be effective until at least october. 4:51 right now, firefighters in southern california are being credited with saving the lives of four little puppies. this happened over the weekend in victorville when crews arrived to fight the fire, they heard the woman yelling, my babies were inside. they figured she was talking about her five puppies and went in to save them. unfortunately, one did not survive, but firefighters managed to get the other four out without any injuries. >> always making a difference. 4:51, up next, look out below, the windy weekend causing

4:54. that right there is the sound and sight of heavy debris plummeting to the streets below. you can see the strong winds in portland, oregon, knocked the scaffolding off of a skyscraper all the way to the ground. witnesses say that scene was like something out of a movie. nobody amazingly was injured. >> and that's remarkable. can you imagine the people walking below? >> always under a ladder, scaffolding, you know, tumbling down. you know what mike, always got to be on your toes. >> if you were under that scaffolding, more than bad luck, that was bad positioning there. fortunately not the case. over here, good video, i'll tell you. over here, we're looking at the bay bridge, this is great video, great live shot actually. we're showing you the live traffic flow. just label the of backup. we don't typically have all of the cash lanes open just a couple minutes after 5:00, and that's what's happening here. no incidents reported for the span. we'll show you the map and the approach coming over the east bay. approach down from the upper
