let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you, laura, hi there, sam. temperatures mostly in the 50s to kick off the season of new beginnings and growth. 54 degrees in san francisco, 48 degrees in livermore. beautiful conditions for today, but definitely cooler than where we ended up yesterday. notice the clouds increasing as we head throughout the afternoon. we'll have more on your forecast for the weekend and still tracking that chance for rain. it's better now, a little bit better overnight according to the models. we'll show you what we're working with coming up. here's mike and your friday drive. >> it's looking great and overnight a light volume of traffic and a little roadwork on the bay bridge. no problems on the span as far as speed sensors go, no problems on the approach, that's a wide look including the north bay. highway 4 coming into concord westbound your commute direction appears to be a stall moved over to the shoulder, doesn't look like there are any other issues. there may have been overnight roadwork in the area as well. we'll track that.

no slowing and very light traffic through that area even for highway 4 right now as we zoom out to the rest of the bay a smooth drive out of the altamont on your right and south bay and peninsula. back to you. >> mike, thank you. new this morning, investigators in san francisco trying to figure out what caused the house to catch fire overnight. crews were called to brazil avenue just after midnight. everyone inside the building manage to get out but one person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. a motorcycle crash in san jose killed one person, sent another person to the hospital. this happened overnight on monterey highway south of oak hill cemetery. the motorcycle was heading north on monterey highway when it hit a pedestrian. the pedestrian died on scene. the motorcycle slid about 100 yards before stopping and the rider is also in the hospital. two men are dead in a peninsula apartment complex where they lived is in shock. they were found shot to death at

the senior apartment complex on fabian way in palo alto. this is right near the san antonio exit off of 101. the first man was found dead in the apartment lobby, shot several times. the second dead man was in an elevator with a gun. police say the second man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. many residents didn't know about the death until they got home yesterday afternoon. >> really? >> reporter: there was a murder in the building. have you heard of anything happening? >> no, i'm only just coming. >> police are calling this a murder/sue identify and investigating how and if the two men knew each other. this is palo alto's second homicide of the year. >> 4:33. landlords in san francisco are under more pressure this morning to make apartment buildings safer. the department of building inspections is zeroing in on the mission district after two deadly fires there in recent weeks. inspectors have found many buildings with code violations, including fire extinguishers that need servicing, fire alarms that don't work and emergency

doors and stairways that are blocked or locked. tenants are nervous. >> the door is stuck. >> the director of building inspections is asking the city attorney to take immediate legal action against landlords who don't bring their buildings up to code. landlords could face five up to $1,000 a day for violations. yesterday a teenageá( girl died from injuries she sustained during a fire in the district. the 13-year-old suffered smoke inhalation during last week's fire, her father also died in that blaze. animal control workers in the east are warning people about rabid bats. four infected bats have turned up. two in fremont, one in san leandro, one in sunol. if you find a dead or injured bat walk away and call animal control. humans can contract rabies by

just touching a bat's saliva. one local thief knew how to blend in but not well off. doanh dran wore khakis and a polo shirt to infiltrate silicon valley tech companies. once there, he would steal wallets and use the credit cards to buy laptops and ipads before the victims had time to cancel their cards. they managed to steal more than $10,000. a crash strapped bay area school district may face up to $8 million in fines because of a contract deal made three years ago. the fremont unified school district is starting at a fine between $1 million and $8 million because it's not complying with the affordable care act. collective bargaining deal 20 years ago allowed the district to raise base salaries instead of paying for health insurance. it does not meet affordable care act standards. medical professionals in palo alto are asking the school

sam and laura are excited about the new season. let's find out if mike is as well. good morning to you. >> of course, look, look, and over here i'm excited about this as well, where we had the bottom of your screen right there that's my showing overnight we have been watching this crew on eastbound 192, 192? eastbound 92. i just made up a new freeway. hayward coming toward us the headlights from time to time are stopped up and there may be clearing of crews, wow! man, what is going on with my speech this morning? we have a smooth drive. despite that -- they're not listening to me right now. folks, look at the map, slower sensors eastbound from the foster city side over to the hayward side, we just showed you the flashing lights. road crews still there, may be clearing for some of those spots. looking at the dumbarton bridge with no delays, no problems and we'll zoom out. there is the south bay and peninsula. easy flow of traffic, same thing over on the right side coming out of tracy and the altamont pass for westbound 580 and 205

shows that speed as well. there's the north bay. san rafael southbound 101 toward san francisco no delays, same thing for the upper east shore. back to you. a parking permit program in palo alto will have to wait at least three more months after city hall's largest unions complain. the seiu objected to the city's plan because union members were not part of the decision-making process. the program would require parking permits on residential streets in the downtown area. residents have long complained of employees taking over their streets during business hours. residents get the permits for free while employees would have to buy the permits. leaders are going to meet with regard to the oak land coliseum complex. the plan to turn the coliseum into a sports complex for the a's or raiders or both. each team is expected to submit

a proposal for how to redesign that property. a new withist in the joint stadium discussed in carson for the raiders and the san diego chargers. the "l.a. times" reports developers behind the competing stadium plan are warning carson leaders about docorners being c too fast to track the deal. aeg sent the deal, the company has its own interests at stake in the whole thing, includes l.a.'s farmer field stadium plan which is now on life support. dress rehearsals are over for the san jose earthquakes who play their first regular season game this weekend at the new stadium. the quakes will host the chicago fire at 4:00 p.m. sunday. the team has been working with the city, police and dta to make sure tajt flows smoothly. there will be a special downtown shuttle running to and from the stadium, it goes going two hours before the game. should be a nice day on sunday. >> yep, we can feel the tremors from the earthquakes. amazon drones taking flight, the dot-com gets the go-ahead

a very good friday morning to you. taking a beautiful view outside of the bay bridge this morning, glistening, kind of a cool start to our day. christina will join us in a moment with a look at the all-important forecast. new this morning a cafe in australia is back open three months after a deadly seeming. customers lined up outside the lindt chocolat cafe ready to show their support. inside the cafe are two plaques honoring the two women killed in the siege. last december a gunman entered the cafe and took 18 people hostage. he was eventually killed by police. international aide workers on their way to the small pacific island nation of vanuatu to help victims of a deadly

cyclone. 13 people died and thousands are without water, food or shelter. the government is trying to get aid to more than 60 remote islands. france, australia and new zealand are also sending help. in a new investigation by the associated press finds the world health organization waited two months before sounding the alarm on the ebola outbreak. documents show that the world health organization was warned early on of the dire situation in africa but senior staff fent two months discussing the issue before declaring an epidemic. the organization acknowledges it was slow in reacting but blames the response on the characteristics of thekzb+jñ ep. more than 10,000 people have died from ebola, most from africa. the french government is considering a ban on excessively thin fashion models. models must have a body mass index of at least 18, which equals about 121 pounds for a woman 5'7" tall. modeling agency that hires

someone below that bmi would be fined and the model's agent would be sent to jail. italy, spain and israel already have similar laws in place. the company amazon could soon be flying drones right over your house. landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters with all the details. good friday morning, landon. >> hey, sam, good friday morning to you, too. the faa gives amazon the green light to test the use of drones. flights must be at a low altitude during daylight hours and must stay within sight of the pilot. amazon wants to deliver packages within 30 minutes and the company is developing devices that can drive up to 15 miles per hour and sense and avoid objects. futures are pointing to a higher open for the market today. it was a mixed day for stocks thursday as investors continue to debate the fed's statement that it will raise interest rates gradually. the nasdaq closed higher, rising for the fourth straight session. the nasdaq briefly breaking

celebration of a 1912 gift from the city of tokyo. tokyo gave the city 3,000 cherry trees. this year's peak bloom is expected to happen in mid-april. >> popular times to visit d.c. new video this morning of a solar eclipse. some people in the uk are calling breath-taking. the eclipse covered most of northern europe up to the arctic circle. in the uk the moon covered more than 80% to 90% of the sun. cool images there. >> exactly, it was so clear to be able to see it. very nice. clear skies making for a cool start to our morning. >> yes, it is. we had a hotter day yesterday. christina, any changes in the day? >> much cooler for today. 54 degrees to start the day in san francisco. we have low clouds out there this morning and the clouds will increase as we head throughout the day today. we're starting out in the 50s in san jose and close to 50 in oakland this morning. concord full deck of clouds means 56 degrees, just 4 degrees away from 60 to wake up.

the clouds are getting thicker, an area of low pressure tracking closer and closer to the bay area and as a result we are going to see cloudy conditions by the day's end and a cooler day as well, mid-60s for lunch time, still above average for this time of year, but yes, the low 70s on the east shore for today. we've got close to 80 degrees yesterday. 74 degrees for the tri valley, 74 in beautiful san jose, and 68 degrees in san francisco, taking you into that all-important weekend, temperatures are going to be very comfortable,s but we do have a slight chance for showers north of the golden gate bridge, that saturday morning, and a better chance for showers on sunday, the system is really speeding up. i'm going to show you the futurecast in just a moment but really between sunday night and monday morning, widespread shower activity for the entire bay area. i take knew sunday at 5:00 p.m., showers start to get going, richest moisture as per usual will be up in the north bay. i take you into the 11:00 p.m. hour on sunday, widespread

activity all across the board, and so it will be much cooler as a result of the system, and we'll get showers all the way until about 11:00 a.m. and all that moisture pushes right where we need it to go, over tahoe. i'll let you know how much snow we're expecting coming up as we head throughout the 5:00 hour together. back to you, sam and laura. >> that sounds great, christina. 4:49. san francisco's zoo and its employees are launching separate investigations after allegations of spying, part of a safety overhaul following the 2007 tiger mauling at the zoo. every employee wears a radio. the union says zoo managers were able to listen in on the radios and hear private conversations. the zoo says when it heard the concerns, the radio feature was disabled. >> 4:49. a famine is playing out off the pacific coast involving thousands of california sea lions. scientists and marine mammal experts saying pups are being

abandoned by their mothers. workers at the marine mammal center in morrow bay pups are found less than half of their weight. they're trying desperately to nurse the pups back to health. >> we're all here for the animal. >> warmer ocean temperatures have food supplies on the move that has sea lion mothers swimming for days just to feed themselves. >> 4:50. the governor says he will spend $1 billion on drought relief. the bond money will be used for short term relief, getting food and housing help for unemployed farm,ers. it will include long-term plans including more water recycling, and flood control. new this morning the first lady wrapping up her visit to japan with a taste of traditional culture. michelle obama joined by u.s. ambassador to japan caroline kennedy this morning. the two visited a buddhist temple in kyoto and watched a classic japanese drama performed by college students.
