danger. >> and good morning to you. the time is 4:59 a. good weather story, though, we have very warm air headed your way, temps in the 90s. well tell you when and how long that will last in moments. and this might interest you like a ton of bricks. maybe not a ton. but there is a load of bricks on the roads right now. we'll show you where. >> here's the bay bridge. it looks like it's moving smoothly. it's tuesday, march 24th. this is the 24th of march. from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >> a good tuesday morning for you. thanks for joining us. >> we have breaking news to get to right away. this out of france in the past hour. a passenger plane crashed in the southern part of the country. nearly 150 people were on board the german wing plane from barcelona to dues el dorf. >> we have the french president

says they have no survivors. right now, we do know they have located the debris field the french president said that flight crashed, it was like they no one walked away. nbc news is reporting there were 140 passengers on board, plus two pilots and four crew members, in the last half hour, they reported the debris field and search and rescue crews are racing to that remote site in the french alps. because it was more than a mile above sea level. the minister says the airbus 320 crashed from barcelona to dusseldorf, they put out an sos from air traffic control. though they did not specify what kind of stress that was. flight tracker data shows a very fast dissent. this is far above the altitude

where a third strike would be likely and no noted weather at the time of the crash it could possibly impact the search. they are saying the plane was driven back in 2014. it is a french airbus 320 operated by german wings, a subsidiary of the lufthansa group. tom costello reports the plane is widely used at all experience levels. it is heavily automated with a lot of computer systems and back-up systems. the morning the head of lufthansa, the parent company says we the not know yet what happened to flight 4u knife 25. our deepest sympathy goes to the families and friends of the crew. we hope to find survivors. however the french president

this picture was taken yesterday morning here in villejo. police say a 30-year-old man called them around 2:00 in the afternoon to say he had forcibly taken her yesterday morning and was holding her for ran some. how much he is demanding, police won't say. police don't know why she was abducted or whether she knows her kidnapper. officers did locate her abandoned 2000 white toyota camry, which had been stolen during the abduction. obviously, no sign of the woman. they have called on the fbi for assistance and the solano county of mortgages services. they are asking you at home. if you are watching this, if you recognize her or have seen her, police would love to hear from you. they will also be holding a news conference at 10:30 this morning. reporting live.

>> meantime, police right now have arrested a man suspected of trying to abduct a teenage girl as she walked to school. this happened about a block away and officers spotted the car and arrested him. allen is suspected of another kidnapping last month, a developing story in san francisco, deputies on the lookout for an escaped inmate. stephanie joins us live from san francisco. it's a routine exercise, taking out the trash. good morning. rainstorm. ye it's a daily assignment, there are two dumpsters down the street, you see that column there. it's likely that it was on harrison street the deputy lost him. so take a look at this picture.

26-year-old alexander santiago, he's 5' 6," 180 pounds. he was held on a vials of drug trafficking and possession of a firearm. they have been trying to track him down and they immediately notified law enforcement agencies. this is the second time, however, in less than a year something like this has happened. on june 7th last year, a 40-year-old inmate ran out the door. the deputy lost him as he was later escorted back. he was at a nearby homeless center. he was boxed again for felony escape. at the time there was supposed to be some departmental review. again, still, the inmate on the loose. deputies are looking for him

right now. >> all right, thanks, for the latest. devstakes right now in martinez all because of an accident involving a dump truck. a 30-year-old was moving her car out of her driveway yesterday to make way for a delivery trailer full of gravel. the construction crew working in front of her house asked her to move it. she backed up a few feet when the load of gravel came down on top of her. >> she was a very level person. she really loved her daughter. she was always pristine. >> she was very happy. it's very tranlic. >> the driver of the tractor-trailer says he has been delivering gravel for 30 years and has never had a trailer tip over on him before. it's incredibly difficult news

. son disconcerting news now, more than half americans will develop alzheimer's disease this year. many will never be diagnosed. the alzheimer's association found some doctors are reluctant because they are worried about upsetting the patient or think they won't be for weeks. one of the problem is it's hard to give a clear diagnosis. it is 5:13 right now. actor and film-maker angelina jolie is sharing personal news today.

two years after undergoing a mastectomy, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. jolie says she underwent the procedure last week. recent tests showed she had an increased chance of ovarian cancer. the disease that took her mother. now jolie is undergoing hormone replacement therapy. jolie says she is making it known so other women will get checked. jolie writes, in part, it is fought possible to remove all of the risk, and the fact is i feel feminine and grounded in the choices i am making for myself and my family. i know my children will never have to say, mom died of ovarian cancer. well, high heels this morning, ladies, think about this. a new study found that heels might actually aid you.

good morning. police say a threat against president obama's niece has no merit. security at last night's winning basketball game between princeton and the university of maryland t. president sees leslie robinson, a caller reporting hearing about a man with a gun and mentioned robinson. the threats turned out to be nothing. a man in oklahoma wants to support the lbgt community with a costly license plate. he may be taking them to court. he says he applied to the state to get a license plate to say lgbtaly. they say lbgt has a sexual connotation. he says it's a matter of free speech. >> i was shocked and displaced, the president and the discrimination and bigotry in our tax system in the 21st century today. >> a judge is expected to hear that case later in the year.

meantime, another controversial case made it all the way to the u.s. supreme court this week. yesterday justices heard arguments over this specialty texas license plate which features the confederate flag. they rejected the plate. they say denying them having that is a vials of free speech. the ruling is expected in june. the 2016 presidential election is still more than a year-and-a-half. the race is also getting interesting. >> i am announcing i am running for president of the united states. >> yesterday, ted cruz threw hilt hat into the ring. some wonder how he may appeal the main stream. this is the first joint interview since cruz announced

including two pilotles. none of them is expected to have survived, according to french president francois hollande. likely there are no survivors. we can also tell you this morning the debris field was located within the last hour or so. crews are rushing to that remote site. because it's a mile and a half above sea level, they say it will be an arduous operation. as he said, the airbus 320 crashed en route to barcelona. they are reporting that the pilot put out an sos according to air traffic control that the plane was in distress. tow we have not been able to specify what kind of distress. this would be far above the altitude where a bird site could be likely. they were being alerted of weather at the time. tow there is a storm now headed to the region. the search could be inpacked.

again, the passengers and crew count has gone up. it is now 139 confirmed by germany. >> so much more information coming in. our coverage will continue all morning long. chris will join us with a irve loo report coming up in about half an hour with the latest updates. a villejo women police say may have been kidnapped. >> bob, no trace of the actual woman? >> reporter: right, they found her car abeen donned. you see behind me the solana office of emergency service. they've set up a temporary headquarters here in an empty lot not far from where this woman was abducted. this is where they would be coordinating search and rescue efforts. you see the two gentleman in the orange. they're usually assigned to people trying to find people who are missing. this is a woman authorities are looking for.

there is her picture. her name is denise upton. she is 30-years-old, she according to police was abducted early yesterday morning from a house on the 500 block in oakland, not far from where we are here. it's a newer neighborhood that borders up to a marsh area here in villejo. police said around 2:00 yesterday afternoon they received a phone call from a 30-year-old man who told him she was forcibly taken and was being held for ransom. here's an image of her car. it's a 2,000 white toyota camera. that was stolen at the time according to police. they did find it abandoned later, no seen of denise upton in that car. because it was a kidnapping or it allegedly involves a ransom, police have called in the fbi to help them, assist well this with case. you see behind me the office of mortgages services has a

temporary rescue as well as police want you to know, want your help as well if you recognize her, huh seen her around, obviously, they'd love to hear from you. we should be learning more at 10:30 when they will hold a news conference. meantime, reporting live here in the bay. >> that search is intensifying right now, thank you very much, bob. the family of a young mother hit by an suv in hayward last week says she will be taken off life support today. she and her 11-month-old son were in the crosswalk on the onramp wednesday when they were hit. over the weekend, doctors declared turner brain dead t. son is in critical condition. the driver of the suv is said to be cooperating with police. new video this morning of a home in campbell where an explosion hammond late last night on lavelle avenue.

firefighters say one person inside the home when to the the hospital with a burn injury. the extent of the damages isn't clear. police now investigate the calls of that explosion. mayor sam liccardo is pushing for new library funding today. he will ask city council to restore funding to the 23 libraries to stay opened six days a week, including school days and saturday. funding was slashed in 2011. >> that money will come from the federal fund t. goal, to have the library fully restored by july. meantime in an effort to protect players from head injuries, the nfl is considering a new proposal for medical personnel. they are considering a proposal that would stop play to take a wobbly player off the field, it would be up to medical advisers to appear if the player is disoriented. the player would have to get off the field and undergo a series of exams. a lot of folks are trying to get

breaking news to tell you about in philadelphia. talking about taking a wrong turn, look at this, a bus turns into a house in philadelphia this morning. no reports of injuries. we den know if anyone was on board the bus. obviously, a driver may have got lost out of control. but quite a sight this morning. imagine waking up to that. no reports of injury. a lot of damage to that house,

the national transportation safety board will hold a special hearing this morning to look into the high number of pedestrians that are killed on railroad tracks every year. they have as many as 940 people were hit on racetracks last year. you do the numbers. they average to almost three per day. locally, there have been only nine killed this year. we are tracking a developing story right now in san francisco. the search is on for an escaped inmate. >> we are live, the inmate took off the tracks? >> reporter: that's right. good morning, laura and sam. right now, the inmate, it started here at the hall of justice in the basement. every day inmates are looking for expert advice. one inmate is on the major arteries in the city. deputies lost sight of him from

asked not to approach them. call 911. >> thanks a lot, earlier, an inmate escaped from the custody of santa clara county sheriffs deputies. deputies are still looking for john l. carter. he is accused of child molestation. there is a $6,000 reward in connection with his arrest. cal-trans says it has no option but to say whether highway 84 along highway 1. they will delve into a fire hazard. they are asking them to mow that. they say they lack the man power. it is scheduled to start at 6:00 a.m. >> that's a little grain in part of the bay area. poor conditions, fought quite the same. >> no, certainly fought. but you know what, it has been so green and popular out there.
