now, this was the scene yesterday evening. san jose police officers escorted his body from the coroner's office to a mort u air in los gatos. they don't always get the respect they deserve. we also spoke with johnson's training officer. he said this, johnson was a smart guy, easy going and had a good sense of humor and good rapport. to know johnson did not return from work tuesday night is a real punch in the gut. >> i did not think, this could be the last time. but in your mind, you always prepare yourself and make sure that the good-byes are there, and that you make it home.

>> san jose police officer, michael johnson was shot and killed tuesday night when responding to a call of an armed man who was drunk and suicidal. police say scott dunham shot officer johnson as he approached dunham's apartment. dunham was later found dead in his home with one gunshot room. reporting at san jose police headquarters bob redell "today in the bay." >> the department is paying special tribute. this is what you see when you so to spd.com. shows his badge number. and his photo. a fund-raiser is being held by captain nolan. a fund-raiser will be held a week from today. all of the proceeds will go to the johnson family. >> okay. so, what triggered the first on-duty officer death in the san

jose police department in 14 years? the man who shot officer johnson, scott dunham, had a history of violence but kept a low profile for 20 years. he was arrested after a fight with his wife. he choked her during an argument and pulled his daughter's hair when she tried to break up the fight. was also charged with resisting arrest. but pleaded no contest. he worked as a gardner until 2012. he was found dead yesterday morning. investigators are trying to find out how exactly he died. you can go to our facebook page for condolences for the officer's family. laura? >> this morning we're expected to len more about the kidnap for ran some case. which police say is orchestrated, and not a kidnapping at all.

her boyfriend said she was missing. and the story started to unravel when they asked quinn more questions. >> the statement that mr. quinn provide was such an incredible story, we initially had a hard time believing it. >> she mysteriously showed up in huntington beach yesterday morning. police arranged for her to be flown in a private jet back to the bay area. but they say they lost contact with her and now she has an attorney. her uncle said there's more to the story. in south bay. a man accused of trying to run down a deputy is behind bars this morning. he showed up at a hospital claiming he shot himself. they believe he was involved in a police chase yesterday. his car later found with blood inside of it. protesters in oakland are

pushing a school board to fire security guards accused of abusing students. many demonstrated outside of the school. they are angry about fights that occurred a few weeks ago. you can see security guards fulling a student out of sight there, eventually from the camera. those involved said the security guards choked and punched the student. last may two oakland high school security guards were caught beating francisco martinez who uses a wheelchair. martinez said he's still affected the what happened. >> after what they did to me, it's not really easy to hand shake the person that brutalized you and is wearing the uniform that is scary and not really fun to go to school. >> at minute straighters said each situation is being investigated. in the meantime, security guards

involved are on paid administrative leave. it's 4:37. south bay police need your help finding a man who held up a liquor store. look at this. surveillance at paul's quick stop on main avenue in morgan hill h. they this ordered two employees to give them money out of a cash register and then ran away. anyone with information is asked to contact police. a 30-year-old woman died after being hit by a stray bullet march 9. police say a gunfight broke out down the street from her home on chestnut avenue. she died trying to protect her children. in all, police arrested three men. one of them 19-year-old anthony simms is expected in court today. san jose high school will hold a town hall for parents. oak grove high school wants to address parents on things such as social media, bullying and

new, this morning, the u.s. dropped bombs on isis targets in tikrit today. hoping these attacks will help iraq take back control of the city. the bombing marks a significant expansion of the u.s. military's role in iraq. the military did not initially provide air support in tikrit but iraq decided to partner with iran but that defensive stalled. it's about a stunning turn around for bergdahl. he tried to escape while in afghanistan. but bergdahl will likely make a plea deal and avoid jail time. newly released recordings from the germanwing's flight reveal a bizarre struggle before the plane crashed into the french alps. one pilot left the cockpit
