at 6:00, san jose international airport facing more questions this morning after yet another security breach. plus, a peninsula school takes quick action to come bottom a rash of student suicides. and potential presidential candidate jeb bush arriving in the bay area, and he brings with him fresh controversy. we'll explain. we have a cold and clear start to your wednesday. temperatures are going to stay mild for today, and then we get into a rainy pattern, as of your easter sunday. more on that in just moments. and although we're seeing a lighter traffic pattern overall, we have a few key spots, which are a major factor. right here in the south bay, we'll sort out that big backup in just seconds. let's take a live look outside. san francisco from a distance, up from san bruno mountain. no fooling there. it's wednesday, april 1st. this is "today in the bay." >> from nbc bay area, this is "today in the bay." >> and a very good morning to

you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm sam brock. this was no april fool's. we begin with a developing story for the fifth time in a year, someone who is not supposed to be inside of san jose's international airport found a way inside anyway. >> kris sanchez live outside the airport this morning. and investigators say a woman scaled an airport fence, but they really don't even know why. >> reporter: we don't know why and we don't know who she is specifically because she didn't have i.d. on her when police arrested her. and thus they couldn't readily confirm her identity. i suspect they'll be working on that this morning. that woman was arrested and had to be subdued. did not go down without a fight. she was spotted by an airport employee, an employee of ups more specifically. according to a mineta san jose spokesperson. the woman climbed over the fence at the southwest corner of the airport, then headed toward the airfield on to the tarmac. she was eventually contacted by a ups worker who confronted her, while other employees called

police. police then had to subdue her before she was taken into custody. because of four other prior security breaches, there have been safety improvements here at mineta san jose. and the airport spokeswoman says this trespass supervisor's arrest is proof that those are working. but this is the fifth security breach in 12 months. you'll remember the one that made international headlines when that teenager climbed the fence here at mineta san jose to climb into the wheel well of a plane bound for hawaii that was last april. in august, marilyn hartman, now dubbed the serial stowaway, successfully got past airport security inside the airport and boarded a flight to los angeles where she was arrested. three months after that, a bit of a different tactic and a different suspect. 39-year-old man stole a truck from a parking lot and went on a joyride into the terminal b secure area. he was arrested, and before this one, a man spotted on surveillance video wandering

beyond the secured perimeter of the airport. airport security staff are investigating this breach along with san jose police and the tsa working to find out who this woman is, why she did it, and what she was planning to do next. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> all good questions. thank you very much, kris. this morning, the l.a. county coroner says he believes the death of oil heir andrew getty was accidental. the 47-year-old member of san francisco's prominent getty family found dead inside of his hollywood hills home yesterday. the "l.a. times" is reporting he was found shirtless and in the bathroom. >> the last couple months, and he supposedly had an appointment scheduled with a personal physician. >> police say a woman called 911 to report the death and she is cooperating with police. andrew was the grandson of oil tycoon jean paul getty, once listed as the richest man in america. andrew was also one of four sons of gordon getty. his family is asking the media

and the public to respect the family's privacy. two palo alto high schools will be getting licensed therapists as soon as possible in the midst of a so-called mental health crisis. the school board voted unanimously to allocate $250,000 in district funds to hire a full-time therapist at palo alto and gunn high schools. the board waived their two-mee two-meeting rule and took action last night. 42 gunn students have been hospitalized or treated for suicide prevention. new this morning on the heels of indiana's controversial religious freedom law, arkansas lawmakers have also approved a similar measure. they did so overnight. and the governor says he's probably going to sign it. the governor is supposed to make a statement today regarding that bill. arkansa arkansas-based retailer wal-mart made a statement against the bill, urging the governor to veto it.

happening today in the middle of this fire storm over religious freedom laws, one of the republican party's biggest names comes to town. jeb bush will be fundraising in the bay area starting today. >> stephanie chuang joining us now live from east palo alto near where he's going to fundraise. and silicon valley has voiced its opposition to these laws. bush, meantime, has come out in support of them, creating an interesting contrast here. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you both, sam and laura. yeah, we'll have to see if jeb bush addresses his support of this controversial new indiana law during his bay area fundraising visit, which kicks off today at lunch here at the four seasons silicon valley in east palo alto. so bush coming to the bay area, tapping it for cash, where major names like sales force ceo marc beniof and tim cook as well as twitter and yelp have said they're going to pull some sort of support, maybe business out of indiana, condemning the religious freedom act. that was signed by mike pence last week, and amid this backlash, pence now says he

wants language added to the act that specifies it does not give businesses the right to deny services to anyone. >> i believe in my heart of hearts that no one should be harassed or mistreated because of who they are, who they love, or what they believe. >> so we may hear jeb bush echo that. we're not sure. he is raising money for his right to rise super pac. he heads to a luncheon tomorrow in san francisco at the mandarin oriental hotel. by the way, bush just one of a handful of likely 2016 white house contenders to support this indiana law. the others include marco rubio and ted cruz. stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." the city of oakland is supporting the lgbt community by boycotting indiana because of supporting the law. libby shaft is taking a stand against a discriminatory law. they are now boycotting any

business travel to indiana. oakland a's pitcher sean doolittle and his girlfriend eireann dolan are stepping in to head off what she describes as a negative response to the team's first lgbt pride night this coming season. dolan is offering to buy tickets for the a's june 17th game against san diego and the padres. she says several season ticketholders were trying to sell their tickets because they felt uncomfortable by the event. some were even posting homophobic remarks online. she has two same-sex parents, so for her, this mission is very personal. >> when i saw these negative comments, i thought of how nervous she was to tell me. i thought i hope these people who are going there are not as nervous as she was that they would be accepted for who they are. >> she is not only buying unwanted tickets, she's also raising money and donating money to buy tickets to the pride night game. those seats will go to lgbt youth living in a shelter. so far, her go fund me page has raised more than $11,000.

it's 6:07. wednesday, first day of april. april fool's day. no fooling, as we take a live look outside. christina joins us with a look at the forecast. >> chilly start to the day. good morning to you. right now, we have just three degrees of separation between the 30s and the 40s in the tri-valley. and we are going to see those cold conditions really kick in, as we get closer to sunrise, 6:53 is the official time and that is the coldest point of the day. getting into your afternoon into the low 60s, you'll need that jacket, up until that time, and then you can actually ditch that jacket later on, only in some parts across the bay area. that is the north bay at 70 degrees for today. meanwhile, 66 degrees is kind of a cool, blustery day in san francisco. as we're going to see that wind still strong, but not as windy as it was yesterday. i'm going to show you your future cast for wind right now. stop that clock for you at 1:00 p.m. starting to see things calm down. you'll notice here on the key, wherever you get those warmer colors, the reds, the pinks,

that's where we're expecting the strongest wind. at about 1:00, only at the coast. as we head throughout tonight, we're going to see some strong wind in the inland valley spots. the wind will drop off between about 12:00 and 5:00 and it will kick back up between 6:00 and 10:00. keep that in mind. overall, when that wind drops tomorrow, we could be talking about frost formation, and we have a better chance for that as we head throughout your friday morning. we'll have more on that for you in our next report. >> even though we have a lighter volume of traffic today, we do have a heavy backup in san jose. northbound 101 here from 680 all the way up to oakland road. let's look at your map. it's actually from about tully road where you're backed up solid. that's about a four-mile stretch of northbound 101. because of the lighter volume of traffic and in case you just

joined us, we have spring breaks rotating around the bay. probably getting over there via tully road or capital expressway, but we don't see as much of a backup. 87 is probably your best bet around the area. alvin has to go through the area. he's taking 680 up to mission. meanwhile, we'll zoom up through the rest of the area. we do see a light volume for the tri-valley. talking about that as well as no real problems for the caster valley wide. we'll give you a look at the dublin area, as we had the

case. a group who claims to have kidnapped denise huskins last week is demanding an apology for calling the alleged kidnapping a hoax. the group claims it was a training mission to test methods that could be used on larger targets. the alleged kidnappers also say they ran a criminal enterprise out of an abandoned building on mare island. the fbi continuing to investigate those claims. a u.s. magistrate today is expected to sign off on a million-dollar settlement involving hundreds of oakland occupy protesters who claim police mistreatment. the case goes back to january of 2012. that's when protesters say they were corralled by police outside a ymca, unfairly arrested, and then held in custody for hours. the stoif oakland and alameda county have already agreed to a class action settlement with 360 people.city of oakland and alam county have already agreed to a class action settlement with 360 people. new details now on that plane crash in france.

authorities in france are denying reports this morning that there's a video taken from inside of the germanwings plane last week shortly before it slammed into the french alps. two european tabloids, "paris mark sanchez" and the german daily "bild" are both saying the footage was found on a cell phone in the middle of the wreckage of last tuesday's crash. it's said to show the final seconds before co-pilot and drew lubitz deliberately crashed that plane. the drought is accelerating the fire season by months, forcing cal fire to hire seasonal firefighters earlier than ever. yesterday was the first day of training for many new members who will be deployed into bay area stations next week. 35 firefighters had outdoor training two months of ahead of schedule. the drills are set out so the well water goes back into the ground. okay, california's historic drought now impacting more than just the fire season. >> it's actually impacting some local bars. they're calling it a drought discount. yeah, in unison. two san francisco bars called wish and bond will give you a

dollar off, if you order a drink without ice. >> it doesn't matter if it's hard liquor, wine, or beer. if it's a libation period that lacks ice, it's going to cost you less. the owner says she knows it's a drop in the bucket to a massive problem but she hopes the conversations that follow will flood the city. >> it's marginal gains. if you can get a lot of people to do just a little bit, then maybe it will do something. >> the owner says many cocktails call for a full cup of ice and that all of that ice can add up very easily. the offer will go through next week. >> you don't want to water down your beer with ice anyway, so there you go. do your part to conserve. time to check the microclimate forecast this morning as we take a peek outside. a cool start to our day. >> if that cup of coffee does not wake you up, it's going to be chilly as well. >> a different kind of cold one, per se. good morning to you. i loved that unison moment. >> you should hear our duet album coming out.

>> i can't wait. 49 degrees in san francisco. we have a pretty nice day coming your way. it's going to be chilly out there. not as windy as it was. our air quality is still good. and we're looking towards a lift to a bit of a warm-up as of this afternoon in some spots across the bay area, only in the north bay. otherwise it's going to be about three to five degrees cooler. we had a cold front come through and there's a reinforcing area of low pressure on the way for tonight. so that wind will drop off throughout the day. it's going to pick right back up, though. as we head through about 5:00 to about 9:00 p.m., that's when we're expecting the most blustery timeframe. then once we lose that wind, all the cold, dense air settles in, and tomorrow morning, we actually have a frost chance for your inland valley spots. there's a better chance as that wind really relaxes, getting into your friday morning. so keep that in mind. it's a little bit later in the season for frost, and a lot of people have already planted those spring gardens. temperatures for today in the 60s.

we're going to trade the 60s in for the 70s, and then we'll be in really comfortable conditions as we get into your easter sunday. but there's a big change on the way. in you're going to be heading out and about on saturday, noon, 69 degrees in the bunnies and bonnets parade. that's in downtown campbell. absolutely free. good times for you and the kids. by sunday, the showers move in. if you're curious about the timing, i will have that coming up for you. right now, want to check your drive and welcome in mike inouye. >> we're looking at this huge become-up right here. you can tell by the southbound side of 101, stacked up solid right here. let me get out of your way. they're putting one of the vehicles involved, getting it on to a flat bed tow truck. i heard there were maybe six or seven vehicles involved, including a big rig truck there. that's the reason why we have two of your northbound lanes blocked. and two lanes are squeezing by

on northbound 101. there's the southbound side looking just fine. back out to your maps, we'll try to get you around this. this big backup right over here. basically from before you get to capital expressway, you notice 87 taking some of that traffic flow and starting to slow down. about six miles of the backup, the traffic crawling. so you'll use 87. use tully. northbound 280 not looking so bad. again, south bay slowing, has that sort of ripple effect for those freeways. you did see what looked like one of the last remaining cars there on the scene. there's the tri-valley. and also over here, 880 southbound as we go to the east bay, a smooth flow and basically

breaking news, happening in oregon in the town of albany, about halfway between the portland and eugene, there is a high school on fire. it actually started in the cafeteria. these are live pictures from above the scene where you see many crews there trying to fight this fire from all angles. they're not saying much more about the fire, including what may have caused it. early morning hours. hopefully no one has been injured. >> okay, 6:25 right now. lawyers for portia say it's not the company's fault that actor paul walker died in that fiery crash. the statement was made in response to its civil lawsuit

alleging that a vehicle flaw caused the 2013 crash. they were killed in 2013 after the portia carrera crashed into a tree and burst into flames. walker was a passenger in that car. the driver's widow says he was an experienced driver. investigators say he was going too fast. buyer beware. if you're in the market for a new car, a new survey suggests you may want to think twice before buying that extended warranty. they cover expensive repairs after the factory warranty ends. but more than half of the people who bought an extended warranty didn't use it. what's more, on average, those who did use the warranty spent hundreds of dollars more for the coverage than they actually saved on repair costs. >> a little cost/benefit analysis there. still ahead, the deadline has passed and it's been extended. what it will take for lawmakers to reach a nuclear agreement with iran sometime this morning.

quickly as possible. he says the government will help displaced residents return, and that its civil defense unit will spend the day combing the city for roadside bombs. now to the latest on negotiations. sparse words from president obama hours after a deadline for the u.s. and iran to reach an agreement expires and is then extended by a day. >> tracie potts has been on the site of the story since the beginning. she joins us live from washington, d.c. with the latest. good morning. >> hi, laura and sam. the president got a security update on what was happening. he now waits like everyone else to see what has developed in these morning meetings. they did go in early this morning to resume negotiations, although some of the top negotiators, foreign ministers from three countries, have already left. iran's foreign minister says they hope to wrap it up today. >> we have accomplished quite a bit, but people needed to get some rest and start over early in the morning.

>> reporter: president obama got a secure update. >> what we need to do is maintain maximum pressure on iran. >> reporter: what kind of research did iran do after ten years? will sanctions be lifted, or just paused temporarily? and what happens to all the nuclear fuel iran's already stored? key questions the president said would be answered by now. the white house is defending giving it one more day. >> we are making progress toward the finish line, and we should keep going. >> this is a major win for u.s. national security. >> any deal here has to be sold by both sides back home. >> i think they've got to come up with something from switzerland or there will be a move to impose additional sanctions. >> when i've got something, i'll let folks know. >> reporter: a move toward more sanctions could make everything fall apart. remember the final deadline to get all the details filled in, everything in writing is june 30th. this is the deadline for a big outline for that deal. the white house had said if they can't at least see that they're

moving toward a deal by now, they would walk away from these negotiations before june. so we're watching for that statement later this afternoon. >> most definitely. tracie potts live from washington. thank you. >> parents whose loved ones are missing in mexico will stop in san jose today. this as part of a call to action. the parents of 43 students from iguala, mexico, are planning a noontime rally in front of the mexican consulate. parents are asking for any information about what might have happened to their loved ones. officials in mexico have said that a gang cartel killed those students. new this morning, singer/songwriter joni mitchell is undergoing tests in the hospital after passing out in her home yesterday. a statement on her website says mitchell is conscious and being tested in an intensive care unit. but her people are not saying what's wrong with mitchell, though she did tell billboard magazine last year that she cannot perform anymore because of a debilitating skin condition. we're going to check your microclimate forecast.

7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., but you might even find some gusty conditions on your way home. temperatures will drop again as you get into your weekend. we actually had some showers on the way. i promised you the timing. i stopped that clock for you. sunday at 10:00 a.m., it all gets started. the widespread activity by noon. we'll tell you how much we're expecting. this is going to bring us more rain for monday into tuesday as welch that's coming up in my next report. right now, here's mike in your drive. we have some great news, but some bad traffic to show you. first of all, we'll start with the better news, and perhaps a better traffic shot. this is our photographer who's out there. he actually caught sight of the last car being loaded on to a flat bed tow truck and cleared from the scene. now all northbound lanes of 101 are clear at oakland road, just about three minutes past 6:30. that's not a bad estimate. and an easy flow of traffic right now here where henry is. let's show you the backup over at 680 northbound for 101. our camera in san jose shows traffic just starting to move through this screen. and we have about another four

or five miles of backups behind this. let's look at your map. this is 680 and 101. that red zone extends all the way back to hellyer road. a build for traffic flow. more folks heading to 87. some folks using that to get through the stretch of 101, so keep that in mind. recovery from 101 should go a little better today than on a typical wednesday because we're seeing a lighter volume of traffic all around the bay. spring beach rotating around the bay. a fender bender, little slowing there. same thing for hayward. an easy drive here. we're going to end with this shot. and i will mention it's an easy flow of traffic toward the maze and the bay bridge toll plaza. >> we're fighting to get those sunrises back as well. >> starting to get some orange in that shot there. it is 6:36 right now. still ahead, a historic conviction. why a u.s. woman faces years in prison for giving birth to what she called a stillborn baby.

pregnant at the time. it is 6:39. a south korean man has been indicted for last month's knife attack on the u.s. ambassador. kim ki-jeong is charged with attempted murder. u.s. ambassador mark lippert suffered deep gashes to his face and arm when he was attacked during a breakfast forum in seoul. police say kim chose lippert as a target to highlight his opposition to ongoing u.s.-south korean military drills. happening now, emergency crews in alabama on the scene of a freight train derailment. this happened last night as that train was pulling into a rail yard in the town of iron dale east of birmingham. 11 tanker cars were involved in it. one car is leaking liquid rubber and the train's engine is leaking fuel as well. residents in the area are being told to stay indoors as the cause is under investigation. the controversial events in ferguson are now the basis of a stage production. actual grand jury testimony from the michael brown police shooting comprises a large part

subdue her before the state could take her into custody. the woman was arrested, her identity, however, has not been released because she did not have i.d. on her person, and they could not specifically confirm her identity. now, this is the fifth security breach in 12 months, and you'll remember the one that made international headlines last april when a teenager climbed a fence to get into the wheel well of a plane bound for hawaii, where he was discovered and arrested. then in august, the cereal stowaway got past security inside the airport to board a flight to los angeles. three months after that, a person, a 39-year-old man stole a truck from a parking lot and took a joyride into the terminal b secure area. he was arrested, and in the most recent breach, a man spotted on surveillance video wandering around the secured perimeter of the airport. airport security staff are investigating the breach along

with san jose police and the tsa. but the airport spokeswoman says that the employee did exactly what that employee was supposed to do, and i can tell you, going back to the press conference where they announced the security improvements following marilyn hartman's stowaway attempt, or getting through security, one of the things they talked about was better informing employees of the policies and reminding them that if they see something, they should say something. so because of that, the airport spokesperson says that the security improvements are working. however, with five to 12 months, other folks might be wondering whether they're working very well. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. we do continue to follow break news this morning from albany, oregon. a four-alarm fire at south albany high school started in the school's cafeteria. you can see how bad the smoke and flames are there. the firefighters have been tackling this from all sides. luckily, there are no injuries. school is canceled there indefinitely. although the fire is only

reporting he was shirtless, found in the restroom. >> not feeling good for the last couple months. and he supposedly had an appointment scheduled with a personal physician. >> police say a woman called 911 to report the death, and is cooperating. andrew was the grandson of oil tycoon john paul getty, once listed as the richest man in america. andrew was also one of four sons of gordon getty. his family is asking the media and public to respect the family's privacy. just when you thought this next story couldn't get any stranger, it does. another twist in the vallejo kidnapping for ransom case. the group who claims to kidnapped denise huskins last week is now demanding an apology from the vallejo police department for calling that alleged kidnapping a hoax. the group claims that the kidnapping was a training mission to test methods that could be used on larger targets. the alleged kidnappers also say they ran a criminal enterprise out of an abandoned building on mare island. the fbi continues to investigate

that case. new this morning, on the heels of indiana's controversial religious freedom law, arkansas lawmakers approved a similar measure overnight and the governor says he'll probably sign it. the governor is supposed to make a statement today regarding the bill. arkansas-based retailer wal-mart made a statement against the bill last night and urged the governor to veto it. today, one of the law's most visible supporters and also a presidential hopeful jeb bush touching down in the bay area. >> he's here to fundraise, but he may find himself facing some questions about the controversy. stephanie chuang live in east palo alto with more. good morning, steph. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. jeb bush praising fellow republican indiana governor mike pence for "doing the right thing." jeb bush kicking off his bay area fundraising visit here at the silicon valley east palo alto. we may hear him echo what pence has made statements about the controversial religious freedom restoration act. there's been major backlash from the tech community, which condemn the move from leaders
