viciously attacked a homeless man. this happened wednesday night in the tenderloin near larkin and gary. "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang is live in san francisco and investigators have surveillance video of this attack. do they think it's going to help? >> reporter: that's the hope. good morning to you, kris. it was an attack so brutal, it landed the victim here in the icu at sf general, having to get 50 stitches in his head. we decided not to show you the entire video as it is quite graphic but the footage is pretty clear. security cameras outside a bar on larkin street near gary show a young man walking up the sidewalk wednesday night to the victim, a homeless man, well-known in the area named robert, only notices the attacker seconds before the man swings what looks like a metal pipe and strikes him in the head, knocking him down. officer koor close manfredi this brutal attack is a bit more personal. he and his partner know robert from walking that beat every day. >> we've engaged with this homeless individual on a daily

basis, and he always had a smile on his face, no matter how bad his situation or how bad the weather is. >> reporter: here is again a look at the attacker who could face attempted murder charges. people in that tenderloin neighborhood say they don't recognize the attacker but they hear that he and robert had some sort of dispute earlier in the day. so again, the hope from police and from everyone really is that this video will jog someone's memory and land the attacker behind bars. live at sf general, stephanie chuang, "today in the bay." >> if anybody wants a closer look at the video we also have it on our website. thanks, steph. a trail of destruction in san francisco last night, it started near alamo square when a driver rear-ended another car. police say the driver took off again hitting a parked car hard enough to send the car flying into a garage. amazingly, nobody was injured in

all of that mele. police are looking for the driver n a black jeep cherokee license plate for the car is 7ahe206. for the second time this week a taxi driver was attacked by a passenger. daly city police are looking for two men in surveillance video that you can see here. the men reportedly paid the driver last weekend, but then punched and robbed him as he was returning change. earlier this week a san francisco cabbie was also attacked by a passenger. more than $25,000 raised, more than that threshold, what the britannia arms is telling us after it donated 100% of its proceeds to the family of fallen san jose police officer michael johnson. hundreds of people visited the pub's almond valley and downtown locations yesterday looking to show their support. john son's father and other family members were at the almonden valley location last night. some of the major players in

a south bay bribery scheme will learn what kind of restitution they have to pay. this case dates back to 2008 when prosecutors say a trash service owner was accuseded of bribing wasteanagement employees, in exchange the trash operator avoided dumps fees and disposal charges. authorities say he built waste management o bilked waste management out of $13 million. a close call for an oakland man after a house collapsed around him. crosby powell was asleep yesterday when the walls came crashing down at the home on 46th near the macarthur b.a.r.t. station. the house was under renovation. powell says the owner let him stay there in exchange for keeping an eye on the place. he wasn't hurt. no word on what caused the house to collapse. south bay emergency crews are conducting unique rescue drill later today, being called a b.a.r.t. rescue training and it will take place in the

afternoon construction area along the montague expressway in milpit milpitas. they will be trained in rope rescue techniques and extricating patients. a sailor on the east coast has a remarkable story to tell. he survived more than two months lost at sea, was declared lost after the search was canceled and finally back on dry land. >> gone for 66 days. "today in the bay' "today in the bay's" nannette miranda joining us with the survival story which included catching his own fish. >> that's right, an incredible story of survival. louis jordan was on a quest to "catch some big ones" and it nearly cost him his life. this is video of the u.s. coast guard rescuing the 36-year-old after a crew on a german cargo hold found him floating on the overturned hull of his 35-foot sailboat, about 200 miles off the coast of cape hatteras, lost at sea for 66 days, setting sail january 23rd from conway, south carolina. week later his father reported

him missing and alert put out from new jersey to miami, more than two months later an emotional reunion with his father at the hospital in virginia. apparently a storm came through and broke jordan's mast and his communications gear. jordan told coast guard officials he survived through a combination of rationing the food, drinking rain water and catching fish with a net. he's thankful to be alive. >> i feel blessed and i feel full of love and grateful to be with my family and with people again, you know. i feel grateful to have the opportunity to live to do what i want to do. >> the coast guard actually launched a search to find jordan on february 8th but ten days later they stopped. officers say he failed to follow a float plan. the nautical equivalent of a flight plan, and they just couldn't narrow down his whereabouts. jordan apologized to his dad for not being able to fix his boat

and the dad said i'm glad you're alive and that's all that matters. >> "sorry, dad, i couldn't fix the boat." he's like all right. >> just happy you're alive. thank you. >> amazing, thanks, nannette. meteorologist christina loren, the forecast an important one, passover tonight and easter on sunday. how is it looking? >> we actually have a little frost formation out there this morning, because it is so cold. good morning to you, kris and sam, everybody at home. if you are going to be getting together with family and friends, we do have showers, that's what kris is talking about for sunday. we're going to talk about that in my next report. right now i want to focus on your sensitive vegetation, especially up in the north bay and half moon bay and san martin, temperatures have fallen to that range where we could see a little bit of frost, and if you have new budlings out there because it is spring, everything's coming alive, you want to try to bring those in, if you can, as we head throughout the next hour or so. it will get even colder. cold, clear start will make way

to a pleasant afternoon, take you into your lunch time hour, temps in the mid-60s at that point and round out the day in the 70s. this is the last day of the 70s for quite some time, 73 degrees in the south bay today, 72 degrees on the peninsula and about 67 degrees for san francisco. high pressure starts to take a dive t moves to the south and east as we head throughout the weekend allowing showers to come in. i really want to focus in on the point that we have two sides to your easter weekend, but overall temperatures will be dropping significantly so if you want that springtime warmth, go on out there and get it for today. more on your full forecast coming up, plus we talked about that lunar eclipse possibility. we'll have more on that coming up as well. right now here's mike and your drive. >> all right, christina. taking you out toward the maze, traffic flows nicely, light volume. yesterday we had such a light volume we didn't see any backup along the berkeley curve aside from a couple of crashes but that was because of the incident, not because of the volume. headed toward the bay bridge those folks making the turn. let's look at your map for the

area, the maze shows the drive slowing south 880 but you saw that screen how light the traffic flow was, a couple of slower moving vehicles will affect that average speed. over here we had one flat tire being repaired blocking one of your eastbound bores. chp just removed that incident from their report. we should have no problems and don't see slowing headed away from oak land and toward the orinda side. westbound bore is completely clear no problem. the upper east shore freeway, there's the north bay. southbound 101 through san rafael, mill valley and across the golden gate bridge you're at speed there, same thing antioch, a little bit of slowing off of the antioch bridge, walnut creek interchange no problem here. we have a little bit of a build through the altamont pass but the bigger concern for the east bay is over here for fremont, we had the crash and all of the flashing lights. let's get a look by the truck scales, the live camera shows you what remains on the shoulder, just one tow truck which arrived late in the game, maybe doing some paperwork, letting them know no more cars left over and no slowing past the scene. we'll show you the rest of your commute an easy flow southbound

well, president obama is on his official trip to utah. he will be talking about job training. the utah visit means the president is one state short of visiting all 50 states. south dakota is the only state the president has not yet visited. the drought is becoming a drain on the bay area. several local cities have put water restrictions. in nevada, residents are restricted on how much they can actually fill up their pools. some pool companies say they have been trying to get their customers to conserve water. >> it's to the point a little bit that people aren't trying a little harder. i feel i have to drain my pool and refill it. >> they want people to cut back on water use by 25%.

>> that presents a significant crack down in california history. f. check your faucets and pipes for leaks. fixing them can save you up to 20 gallons a day. rinse dishes and vegetables if a full sink or a panov water instead of using running water and in your yard, set your lawn mower blades higher. longer grass means less evaporation, an interesting insight there. >> my girls are 6 and 8, they keep asking, "how long was my shower? how long was my shower?" they turned it off while they were lattering up. >> it's great t. public school system is educating the kids. the kids come home, like you are sake, i educate their parents, gavin newsome had the same story. now we need to get employees to conserve. we want to get that drought on

the forefront of everybody's mind. temperatures mostly at the 50s at the coast. i got to tell you, there are some spots in the 30s this morning. that's why we have a frost advisory in place for the north bay. so san francisco, all your microclimates from the soma district through the sun set, waking up into the 50s, we drop into the 40s, though, before the morning is done. temperatures at lunchtime will rebound nicely. we'll be at 63 degrees in san francisco. up to 73 degrees in the heat of the day, high temperatures coming in at 4:00 p.m. as our days are getting longer. as promised, total lunar eclipse, you will see that coppery colored moon tomorrow morning about this time. here's the thing about this eclipse. sometimes an eclipse can take place over the course of one to two hours. this one will be over the course of five minutes. you better get out there between 4:58. should be mostly clear across the bay area. this occurs when the moon passes directly into the earth's shadow

looking good. employers added just 126,000 jobs last month, which is the lowest since december, 2013. the unemployment rate holds steady at 5.5%. okay. the two brother accused of a brutal attack in levi stadium. it happened back in october. witnesses describe the violence as unprovoked. one of the victims was critically hurt. the san francisco police chief greg ss riu says the results of the text messages will be released later today. he says he will iraqi news some be suspended. the texts came to light last month during a federal corruption investigation into a former smpd officer. the chief is also expected to answer questions about a dna crime lab audit where a lab tech

is accused of altering evidence. tens of thousands of dollars raised for the family of a fallen san jose police officer the same day that he was buried. people packed two san jose bars well into the morning this morning donating money to the officer of michael johnson. we are told johnson's father and family members were there last night. the almadin valley location promised 100% of its proceeds to johnson's family. we will get an idea of how much was raised this, mo. we already know they exceeded tear gel of $25,000. community members say they just wanted to help. >> i was more than happy to work. i asked if i can come in early and stay late. >> i think it's a nice thing they're doing for not only the johnson family but the community. >> the pub in downtown san jose held a silent auction with the items signed and donated by the

that can make weapons grade uranium for iran for the next two years. they are allowing u.n. inspectors full access. still a lot of questions on how and when that will get done. with negotiators leaving switzerland and the framework of a nuclear deal in place the focus now becomes convincing congress to support it. >> if congress kills the deal, not based on expert analysis and without offering any reasonable alternative, then it's the united states that will be blamed for the failure of diplomacy. >> reporter: the president's critics are already lining up. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu calls it a historic mistake. jeb bush calls it flawed. john mccain says he has concerns whether lit stop iran from building a nuclear bomb. lawmakers on capitol hill are skeptical. >> these terms are a dangerous and bad arrangement for the united states.
