bay." >> good morning, i'm chris sanchez. >> i'm sam brock. we do have breaking news to get to right now. these are live pictures from louisville, kentucky, where firefighters are busy battling a four-alarm fire. this has been going on a while. you see the smoke there, still. it's still black. that's the ge appliance park where the company makes any of its ameanss. we don't know if anyone was inside or hurt. we are going to continue to follow this story and bring you updates. also new this morning, a man is dead after a late night fire in san francisco's north beach neighborhood t. flames started just after 10:00 at a home on columbus avenue. arson investigators have been called to the scene. that's standard operating procedure, until they can pinpoint the cause. nobody else was hurt. also new this morning the search is on for the gunman who shot a hayward man to death overnight. late last night, police say the 22-year-old victim was found shot in the chest on jefferson

street just off mission boulevard. emergency crews tried to save him, but he died at the scene. at this point police have fought released any information on a possible suspect. now take good look at this under surveillance photo. san francisco police are looking for there man. the under surveillance image cap cured just moments after police say he hit a homeless man in the head with what looked like what was a metal pipe. today in the bay we are joined live from san francisco, stephanie, some of the victims saw that. some of the victim's friends say they are fought surprised he didn't die in this attack. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning to you, an attack so bold it happened in front of other people, an attack so brutal it landed him at the hospital with 50 stitches in his head. now, we've decided fought to show the entire video bus it does get quite graphic. but you can see a man walks up on the sidewalk on larkin street in front of a bar wednesday night to the victim, a homeless

man, well known in that area named robert. he is knocked down and unconscious, as the man swings what looked like a metal pipe in the head. he and his partner know robert from walk tack beat every single day. >> we have engaged with this homeless individual on a daily basis and he always had a smile on his face and no matter how bad a session or how bad the weather is. >> reporter: and that attacker could face attempted murder charges. people in that tenderloin neighborhood say they don't recognize the attacker. they say they heard he and robert had an argument earlier in the day. a friend visited him and said he is conscious but is in very bad shape. police, of course, hoping that video will help lead to the man behind the attack. live at s.f. general, "today in the bay." >> thank you, stephanie. the two brother accused of a brutal attack at levi stadium

are expected back in court later today. >> that attack inside a men's room caught on a cell phone camera happened back in october. witnesses described the violence as unprovoked. one of the victims ended up critically injured, and it is lit up and blue this, mo. >> that is san jose city hall in a glowing tribute to the officer who died in the lean of duty. michael johnson. and by no means does the show support end there. we now know that fund raisers t britanya armed surpassed their goal of $25,000. the final amount raised won't be released until later today. the event just wrapped up hours ago. earlier today people lined bay street to say one final good-bye to officer johnson. they watched in silence as the hearst made its way to the memorial service. inside that arena, a powerful

and emotional scene as we heard from johnson's family for the first time sense he was shot and killed. his sister talked about how he excelled at everything he did from baking the best bleu cheesecake ever from a recipe so secret he kept it locked in a gun safe to earning a black belt in jujitzu twice. >> mike, we not only miss you, you have left an emptiness in our lives that can fought be refilled. we love you. we are proud of you. today and every day we will honor you. rest in peace, my little brother. >> after the memorial, there was a private burial at on the ground hill cemetery if san jose. officer johnson graduated in san jose. if you'd like to hear more about the memorial or help his family,

you can go to nbcbay area. >> now, susan, possibly punitive measures from the san francisco police department which could fire some of the officers linked to racist and homophobic text messages. the results into those text messages will be released later today. he did not elaborate. he said he will recommend several officers be fired and others suspended. those texts came to light last month during a federal corruption investigation into an officer. the chief is expected to answer questions about a dna crime lab audit where lab tech is accused of altering evidence. also new this morning, job numbers for the month of march. not so great. they were released in the last 30 minutes or. so as we said, it's not looking good. employers added just 126,000 jobs last month, initial estimates some as high as 250,000. this is the lowest figure since december, 2013. the unemployment rate did hold

sailor alive and well after he says he was lost at sea for 66 days. >> more than two months. he survived by eating fish he caught by hand and drinking rain water. we have more on this incredible story of survival, almost defies belief, annette. >> it is unbelievable. louis jordan was on a quote a catch to catch big ones. it nearly cost him his life. this is video of the u.s. coast guard rescuing him after a crew found him floating yesterday afternoon on the overturned hull of his 35-foot sailboat. he was about 200 miles of cape hatteras. he had been lost at sea 66 day, setting sail on january 23rd from conway, south carolina a. week later, his father reported him missing. an alert was put out for him from new jersey to miami. more than two months later, an emotional reunion with his father at the hospital. apparently a storm came through and broke jordan's mast and

communications agreement. he said he survive through a intuition of rationing the food he packed for his journey, drinking rain water and catching fish with a net. as can you imagine, he's thankful to be alive. >> i feel blessed and full of love and grateful to be with my family and with people again. you know, i feel grateful to have the opportunity to live to do what i want to do. >> the coast guard actually launched a search to find jordan february 8th. ten days later, they stopped. officials say he failed to file a flight plan. he apologized to his father for not being able to fix that damaged boat. his father said, oh, son, i'm so glad you are alive. that's all that patzs. >> of course, the only things i thing that's irreplaceable. it is 6:12. still ahead the giants lock up two key members of their

here's a look at today's top stories. police are looking for the man behind a vicious and shocking attack in san francisco. this man caught on camera beating a homeless person with what appears to be a pipe. hayward police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man last night on jefferson street a few blacks away from tennyson high school. sa sailor back on dry land after spending 66 days on an overturned boat. he survived in the coast of the carolinas of eating raw fetch he caught by hand and drinking wran water. well, the drought is becoming a drain on bay area swimming pools. level local cities now have water restrictions on pool owners. some have stopped issuing permits to build new pools.

in morgan hill, residents are restricted on building pools. some pool companies have been trying to get their customers to conserve on water. >> it disappoint me a little bit that people aren't trying harder. i feel i'm getting requests for people, can you come drain the pool and refill it? >> this week governor brown ordered us all to cut back on water use by 25%, which is the strictest crackdown in state history. we have been talking a lot if recent monthsant ways you can save water and we'll give you a few reminders. you want to check your faucets and pipes for leevenlths also if are you deprofiting food. do it in the fridge rather than under running water. rinse your dishes and vegetables in a full sink or panov water instead of under running water. in your yard, set your lawn mower blades higher. longer grass means less evap rakes or mow less often. wouldn't that be nice?

12k3w4r it's 6:24 now. people undergoing chemotherapy treatment may want to undergo eating fish oil. they say taking fish supplements raise fatty acid and it could make cancer cells resistant to therapy. we den know if this same rule applies to humans. speaking of health news, too much iced tea almost cost one man his life. he says he drank a gallon every day, quite a substantial amount there. last year he landed in the hospital with symptoms, including nausea, fatigue and body aches. doctors found his kidneys were badly clogged and enflamed by a xhol oxcillate. it can cause kidney stones and kidney failure. the man is on dialysis and will likely need it for the rest of his life.

repeatedly accelerated the plane on the way down. that crash killed 150 people last week. investigators say andreas lubitz researched suicide methods and cockpit door security in the days before the crash. okay a. rough frame is now in place two days late. there is an agreement on the table to keep iran from building a nuclear weapon. but will the dell stick? tracy potts is joining us live from washington, d.c. to explain why this deal is far from done. tracy. this has to deal with the length of enrichment and how long it will go on for? >> reporter: exactly. 15 years is how long iran would be banned from making any uranium that's weapons grade, in other words that, could turn into a nuclear weapon. they'd also have to open tear a silts to full access for u.n. inspectors and other things, but here on capitol hill, there is still a lot of skepticism about the details of how and when that would happen with negotiators

reassure them sanction won't be lifted until iran proves it's not cheating. but the big issue here is timing. iran wants those sanctions lifted and the u.s. and the other nations are willing to do that. but the question is, when? iran wants it right away. the u.s. and ought countries want iran to wait. >> of course, we have to hear from congress as well, thank you very much, democracy potts, from washington, d.c. >> and breaking news, live pictures out of louisville, kentucky, the fire we have been watching all morning long, firefighters battling a four alarm fire at a ge appliance park. this is a facility where a lot of ge appliances are manufactured. at this point you can see the roof has started to cave in. the fire is so large that there are reports of ash falling on planes at louisville international airports, which is about 5 miles away from that fire. no word yet on whether that ash is affecting flights. there are no reports of any injuries at this point. the park is empty today because

>> i found the eggs. let's look towards the bay bridge. we found a lot of recovery. very quick. in fact, we had a stalled vehicle reported at treasure island. as we looked at the map, that's what kicked off the slow drive the slowest from the bay from oakland to treasure island. we didn't think, i didn't think we were going to see metering lights on today but we did because of that stall. >> that has cleared recovery very easy through the area. just your backup at the toll plaza. zoom out the map, we show you the north bay in the upper corner. we see centerfield at speed. nevada not a problem eitherert. over on the right, antioch chloeing through concord and we are showing the rest of the bay north of the san mateo bridge. we will talk about that latitude right here. we typically see slowing through hayward. not a lot. down toward 58, 57 miles per hour through union city, in our speed centers. 680 to the right we are seeing the tri-valley moving smoothly. no delays through dub len a. new

crash at airway. no slowing shows up just yet. over here on the peninsula 101 northbound at 3rd, i told you about three possible incidentles. it sounds like there is a vehicle on the shoulder and it sounds like there is a fire in the bushes around 3rd. we don't see any slowing. no lanes are blocked from what i hear. we'll continue to track this j so far to slow down, a light volume of traffic around the south bay as well. northbound through san jose, no problems, the area around 101 at 80. just a little build. this is very light for 637 on a friday. so far silicon valley no problem. we're using some silicon valley implements, the speed sensors and the paps. >> thank you very much. 6:57. new this morning, the monthly jobs report just released about an hour ago, fought very good. 126,000 jobs added in march. >> that marks the lowest such figure since december of 2013. the unemployment rate did hold

. all right. take a good look right now at the under surveillance shot. san francisco police are looking for that man in a under surveillance image that was captured just moments after police say he struck a homeless man in the head with what looks to be a metal pipe.

we are live in san francisco this morning. steph, many witnesses are saying the witness didn't die given the brutality of the attack. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam, that absolutely brutal attack here. we are talking about a friend says he did visit the victim here in the icu at sf general yesterday. he is in very bad shape, though, he is conscious. take a look at the video. we won't show you the entire stretch of the footage. it is very graphic. can you see outside a bar on market street the pan walks up to the victim. the victim is a homeless manuel known in the area named robert. the attacker swings that what looks like a metal pipe and strikes robert in the head knocking him unconscious. the horrific attack is made more personal for quite a few folks who say they know robert who live in the tenderloin neighborhood to the police who patrol that area sample we would take him to shelter and get him food and buy him some shoes.

street just off mission boulevard. mortgages crews tried to save him, but he died on scene. at this point police have fought released any information on a suspect. also new this morning a man is dead after a late night fire in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. the flames started just after 10:00 last night at a home on columbus avenue. arson investigators have been called to the scene. now it's standard operating procedure, but until they can actually pinpoint a cause, no one else was injured in that blaze. breaking news, we have been following this morning, live pictures from louisville, kentucky where firefighters still battling what has now been termed a six-alarm fire at ge appliance park there. you can see the smoke billowing at this hour. >> that fire is so large there are reports of ash falling on planes at nearby louisville international airport roughly five miles away. no word on whether or not the ash is affecting flights. good news, so far, no reports of injuries, that park is empty because today is a company

holiday. well, this is san jose city hall. it is lit up in blue this morning, glowing in honor of the life of fallen officer michael johnson. this support by no means ends there. we now know fund raisers at brit tanya surpassed their goal. the final amount raised won't be released until later today. the event just wrapped up a few hours ago. early in the day thousands lined south bay streets to say one final good-bye to officer johnson. they watched in silence as the hearst made its way to a funeral home to the fap center where a memorial service was held. inside that memorial service, a powerful and emotional scene as we heard from johnson's family for the first time since he was shot and killed. his sister shared stories about her brother's childhood and talked about how he excelled at everything from baking the best

lost at sea 66 days. >> he says he survived eating fish he caught and drinking rain water. we have this amazing story of survival and a little bit of an apology that came with it. >> truly an amazing story. louis jordan's family hadn't heard from him in more than two months after setting sail on january 23rd from conway, south carolina. so imagine tear surprise when that call came in yesterday saying he was found alive. this video from nbc's "today show" chap dhurs the emotional reunion between father and son. he was taken to a norfolk, virginia hospital after a crew found him roughly 200 miles off the coast of cape hatteras. there had been no signs of him. his dad reported him missing a week after setting sail to quote catch some big ones. searchers looked for ten days in early february. but with no float plan filed, they didn't know where to look. authorities even tracked his credit cards to see if he was
