rain and flooding. al roker is here. >> it's a dangerous changeable situation. let's look at yesterday. this is from la beck county, kansas, this tornado not hitting the ground but it shows you just the power of this system and what is the shape of things to come. we go to louisville where our danger spot is now. louisville, kentucky, we have massive flooding. there are high water rescues, apartment complexes that are being evacuated even as we speak. i-65 is shut down in parts, they are evacuating those roads, we have people stuck in cars. it is a real mess. we look at some of the pictures coming in. it's really pretty impressive. literally streets turning into rivers now, and the problem is the system is sitting right on top. let's go to the radar and we'll show you exactly what's going on. we have had heavy rainfall in the last two or three hours, talking about 4 1/2, 4 and a third, almost 5 inches of rain falling throughout the area. it continues. right now we have tornado

watches in effect for northern arkansas, into southern missouri. we have severe thunderstorm watches, flash flood warnings and flood watches in effect through this entire area all along this front. the rain is going to continue to train so you can see the flood watches, flash flood warnings as well, parts of louisville, we're going to watch this as the morning wears on. the risk of severe weather and enhanced risk from jackson, huntsville, on too lexington. 1 to 3 inches of rain and guys, as this continues to move to the east we're going to see the heavy rain continuing a and then on the back side of this system we're looking at from three to five inches of snow in upstate new york, parts of pennsylvania and northern new england. the good news is it does calm down. the next 24 hours very difficult in the mid mississippi and ohio river valleys. >> we'll be watching it. another big story, how this landmark deal to stop iran from getting the bomb is received

this morning, not only in washington but around the world. the president has insisted this is a good deal. but it may prove to be a very tough sell. let's get to peter alexander at the white house. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you here at the white house, they are calling it unprecedented but republicans and the israeli prime minister are not on board. this morning benjamin netanyahu already blasting the framework, saying it threatens the very survival of israel. >> such a deal does not block iran's path to the bomb, such a deal paves iran's path to the bomb. >> reporter: from the rose garden president obama defended the agreement, saying it will make america and the world safer. >> it is a good deal, a deal that meets our core objectives. >> reporter: the president must fend off republican critics already attacking the deal. >> there is no deal or framework with iran. there is only a list of very dangerous u.s. concessions that's going to put iran on the path to a nuclear weapon.

>> tom cotton spear headed that letter to iran last month opposing any deal. >> if the congress kills this deal not based on expert analysis and without offering any reasonable alternative, then it's the united states that will be blamed for the failure of diplomacy. >> reporter: the white house insists this would block every path way for iran to build a nuclear bomb and disposing of nuclear fuel. the agreement calls for strict u.n. inspections. in return the u.s. and allies lift punishing sanctions threatening they will be put back if iran cheats. >> well, we have extraordinary extensive verification measures that have not been applied before. we will have state of the art television cameras within centrifuge production facilities. >> reporter: back home today iran's top diplomat given a hero's welcome.

even regular iranians took to twitter posting selfies a after iran's tv took the step of showing a u.s. president's remarks. now the clock starts again, the new deadline for a final agreement is june 30, still the devil here is in the details as the president conceded nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed. >> as is so often the case. peter alexander, thank. chuck todd, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> i think a lot were surprised that this deal happened at all, but also that it had as many as it seems to. >> not only that it was better than what had been leaking out. that's something of a relief to the administration. they got iran to concede to some things, there was this concern that the sanctions would somehow get lifted before there would be some verification. that wasn't the case at all. one of the things that's benefiting the administration early on, is that this deal is

being announced while congress is not in town. they are all in recess for the holidays so gives them time to sell it on their own without too much pushback. >> i wondered. i don't know if you agree but seemed to me in a way as controversial as this deal is the response to it, the criticism was somewhat muted. you don't see people falling all over themselves to get on tv or issue these duelling press releases. are people holding fire? >> good friday press strategy if the you want to call it that. they are not in town. i think there are some that are going to hold their fire, see how this plays out, see the details of the plan. the plan does have more details in it. there is 2 1/2 months before you have the actual signed, sealed and delivered part of this deal. i think the timing of it and the timing of the announcement is beneficial simply because so many of these members are out of town. >> the president has to sell it, chuck, can congress scuttle the deal as a practical matter? >> i think they can easily

scuttle the deal. you've got a lot of skeptical democrats including the highest, the incoming highest ranking democrat in the senate, chuck schumer, he put owl of a two-page statement that basically said i'm going to review the details of this agreement. that wasn't a supportive comment from somebody that the administration is desperately going to need on their side. it's possible they could kill the deal. the president could veto an attempt to do that, but there are enough democrats to override potentially override a veto. the next 2 1/2 months critical. >> the hard work is just getting started. we'll see you sunday on "meet the press." to the incredible story off of the coast of north carolina, a man missing at sea for 66 days, found alive in his damaged sail boat some 200 miles from store. tom is in norfolk, virginia where he sat down with the man and his family. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. 36-year-old lewis jordan was missing for two months forced to

survive rationing his food, eating whatever sea life he could, also grabbing any rain water he could gather. he was cold, wet, but early this morning he walked out of the hospital a very -- one man in a small boat in a very big ocean. after 66 days, lost at sea, lewis jordan walked from the coast guard chopper under his own power into a norfolk hospital on thursday, to an emotional reunion with his father. after 66 days at sea. >> it seemed like a lot longer. >> reporter: friends and family knew he had gone sailing january 23 the aboard his sail boat but then no one heard from him for more than two months, and his parents were frantic. >> what had the last two months been like? >> it's been terrible. you live moment to moment, and those moments turn into days. >> had you given up hope? >> many times. >> reporter: what no one knew lewis drifted out in the atlantic his mast and rudder

broken his boat capsized three times. >> i was flying through the air, summer solting. everything was upside-down and backwards. >> he rationed his food and ate raw fish out of the ocean, capturing rain water to survive. then thursday morning an incredible stroke of luck. his small boat was spotted by the houston express, a massive german container shim 200 miles off of the carolina coast. >> they saw me standing up there waving my arms and they turned that huge sky scraper around. >> a chopper lifted him from the deck of the houston express, flying him back to norfolk. lewis is thinner and shaggier than before but he's happy to be home. >> are you ever going to sail again? >> i really don't know. >> will you ever let him get out on the boat again? >> i don't know. not in the ocean. >> reporter: you can't blame

the auto pilot forcing the plane to descend and changing it to pick up speed. as flight 9525 dove through the sky, french zres gers now say andreas lubitz repeatedly acsell rated pushing the plane faster and faster toward the mountainside according to information recovered from the data recorder. all while the cockpit voice recorder reportedly captured the bangs of the captain trying to get in. and the screams of passengers. the second black box was recovered at the site thursday. found in a ravine and so badly burned the normally orange casing was black. meanwhile, in dusseldorf, investigators revealed more details of what they were able to find on his personal computer. between marchp 16 and march 23, the week leading up to the crash, german prosecutors say he studied medical treatments, various ways of method of committing suicide and cockpit doors and their security measures.

religious intolerance so extreme that it leads to mass murder. 151 dead, most of them in their late teens, early 20s, many of them christian, singled out by islamist gunmen. it's a country in shock after a massacre without mercy. at least four gunmen in suicide vests targeting a college campus before dawn. they attacked students in their dorms, survivors said the gun men asked them their religion. if you were christian you were shot on the spot. christian, you were shot on the spot. it took troops hours to corner the gunmen and they believe they killed them all. it's near the somali border. the gunmen from the al shabaab 3 c3 atentos vigilantes porque

in jail accused of plotting to set off bomb attacks in the u.s. the women both american citizens appeared in court thursday. the fbi she is they acquired three propane tanks and researched how to make bombs. no actual explosives were found and there was never a specific plot. there appears to be a slowdown in hiring in march. the labor department announced employers only added 126,000 jobs in march, that's the fewest since december 2013. this snaps a 12-month streak of job gains above 200,000. some of the jobs hit manufacturing, construction and restaurants. >> a moment thursday on "the price is right," it may just be a new classic. contestant named andrea had three chances to pick the correct price. if she did she would win the car. andrea got unexpected help from the show's model. p

>> as movie goers are flocking to see american sniper in theaters. wayne kyle was in a courtroom, watching the man who killed his son stand trial for murder. >> what was it like to sit in the courtroom with him? >> oh, gosh it was horrible. i mean gut wrenching. it's just one of those deals that you just want to jump over that railing and, you know, kill him with your bare hands. >> in 2013 chris kyle and his close friend chad littlefield were murdered on a texas gun range by eddie ray routh, a struggling vet they were trying to help. >> you worried about him in combat. you didn't worry about him going to a range in texas. >> they basically knew who the enemy was over there. how do you know who the enemy is here? it could be the person that you take to the shooting range to try to help somebody that you

know is evil that had something else in mind. and took his life. >> and wayne kyle doesn't have much regard for how the film portrayed his other son, who also served in iraq. >> it's an absolute disgrace. they portrayed jeff as a weak almost cowardly marine you know just wanting to get out of country, you know in any way possible. and that couldn't be further from the truth from the way jeff was, is. >> the film also stirred up a debate over kyle himself. he spoke about his critics when we chatted a year before his death. >> i mean i've already heard it. i'm a murderer and a child killer and everything like that but i'm not trying to win everybody over. i just want to be an advocate for the vets and make sure they are taken care of. >> celebrities got caught in the back and forth whether chris was a hero. how did you deal with all that?

>> basically, ignored it. >> you could ignore it? >> yeah because i know it's not true. to me those people they have no self worth. they can't accomplish anything on their own. and so their only claim to fame is to try to destroy somebody who has the values people like what chris possessed. >> instead, the kyles draw strength from the outpouring of strangers who visit chris's grave site but also the enduring image of people who lined the procession route the day of his funeral. >> get emotional just thinking about it. if anybody ever wondered if texas stood behind and supported their veterans all they had to do was see that. >> i also asked wayne kyle about the move in congress

ben? what do you say your faith is or do you say you're both? >> yeah i mean there are definitely times people say, oh well you can't be both. or is your mother jewish? that's the only way you could be jewish. but i think from an early age my parents instilled in me confidence in claiming both and saying, you know i'm not 50%-50%. i'm just jewish and christian. >> hanna, what about for you? you didn't have -- you're raised catholic and jewish together. right? >> yes. >> how do you identify? >> well when people ask me i just kind of respond oh i'm interfaith. it is almost the same common response as saying i'm christian, i'm jewish. no one really bats anny any nieye anymore. >> many are much more accepting. >> did you and your husband discuss this before kids? >> yes. we were very lucky that both families really supported us in getting plaerd ingting married. we never had a problem, you know, you have to raise your children one way or the other.

so it stemmed from our families being accepting of both of us. it's been pretty gradual. we found an interfaith community which is an organization. we do school our children. they go to sunday school every other week. they'll do christian lesson then a jewish lesson. >> i think it is fantastic. >> they -- this weekend you will be celebrating? >> friday is tough because it is good friday. we make pizza in our house. i can't eat meat. my husband will be the only jewish person sunday out of 20 people at our house. >> that's really fascinating. anybody out of your relatives -- you can't imagine every single relative embracing it. what did you say to relatives on the fence -- >> or friends. they can be the worst. >> yeah. what did you guys do? >> i think because my parents got intermarried they were an interfit couple that were really pioneers. they got married in 1960. >> were they hippies? >> no. this is before hippies.
