plenty of sunshine. this is our shot from san francisco. no fog this morning. nice and clear, and a little chilly this morning, temperatures in the 40s, even the 30s, as we head through the day, clouds will be on an increase, all because of a symptom system expected to -- by about 7:00, showers going through the bay area, they will continue on and off through the day for your easter, unfortunately we do have to talk about rain tomorrow. you'll notice the storm system tole as we head through the day tomorrow and through today, the clouds will be on the increase. you'll notice plenty of sunshine from the microclimate zones, but as we head through the day, clouds will eventually take over. temperatures very comfortable near 70 in the north bay, mid 60s for the tri-valley peninsula. while it has been very blustery and cool the past few days, not as windy today, but still chilly, and really rainy, as we

head through the next few days. all the way through tuesday and wednesday. we'll talk more about that. >> the rain we need. anthony, thanks. a settlement has been reached ending the high-profile audrie pott trial. the parents came to an agreement. her death was tied to underage drinking, sexual assault and social media. audrie's parents sued two of hess saratoga high classmates. the two boyce had previously been punished in juvenile court for sexually assaulting audrie, and taking photos of her while she was unconscious. as part of the settlement, the boys apologized in court for what they did, but also for initially denying it. they will give presentation what happened and will appear in a documentary sponsored by the

audrie pott foundation. sexual assault survivors say social media can multiply the damage from a rape. >> what it allows perpetrator toss do is allows them to say, i didn't do anything to them. all i did was look at a picture or send a message, therefore i'm not at fault. >> pott's parents saying most of the settlement will go to funding the foundation. a search continues for a las vegas couple. police first visited this couple's home on thursday after their 17-year-old daughter took her baby to the hospital in critical condition. at the home, they found the body of the teen's 3-year-old sister. police believe the parents left the girls months ago. they're believed to be traveling with five other young children. at this point no arrest warrant has been issued for the parent, but their 17-year-old daughter

now faces child abuse charges. the san francisco fleece chief wants a handful of his officers fired for exchanging racist and homophobic text messages. chief greg suhr announced he's already suspended seven officers, including a sergeant and captain. suhr has requested the police commission to fire the officers. the chief called the texts repulsive and says he will work to rebuild the trust. >> we cannot have this in san francisco and have to do everything to the best of our ability to root it out and address it. >> the district attorney and i have agreed to go back ten years. we expect there will be about 1,000 cases we'll have to bring back to court. anytime a police officer testifies, their credibility is at issue. >> the public defender calls the move to fire the officers a step in the right direction and strongly encourages the police commission to follow suit. san francisco police have made an arrest in a disturbing

attack on a homeless man in this video is hard to watch. the attack happened wednesday in the tenderloin, then thursday night please tracked down 35 years old arthur jones, who they say attacked the victim with a metal pipe. this morning, the victim is in critical condition at sf general hospital. the motive for the attack is still under investigation. >> you know, everyone has a right to feel safe, especially in francis. >> police have yet to release the mug shot of the suspect as they continue to build the case. investigators are recommending the district attorney charge jones with attempted murder and aggravagravated an ed assault wy weapon. a man faces new child pornography charges. investigators say blake johnston of martinez had more than 300 illicit images of children from the u.s. and around the world.

he's believed to have contact with at least three of those victims and may have abused as many as 30 of them. the 41-year-old has been in custody since his arrest last year. take a look at this. two men steal an atm at a walnut creek station. this happened at 5:00 yesterday at the shell station near b.a.r.t. one of men distracts the attendant, and then they attack a kabul, pull around the atm. they're liking for the white ford truck and the men. a follow-up to a story about how the community is supporting slain san jose police officer michael johnson's family. two south bay pubs have raised $25,000 for his family. hundreds of people, including officer johnson's father gathered at bring tanyon arms locations in almaden valley and san jose thursday night. they folded the memorial and

it will be a cooler saturday today, maybe a perfect day to sit inside and watch the final four. to a story you'll only see a nbc bay area. a young girl has released from the hospital after a three-month battle with the flu. here's her story. >> reporter: it's a big day at ucsf children's hospital. picture day. not a promotional shoot for doctors and nurses. it's an opportunity to get a picture with 8-year-old patient lydia ledford. >> she has become a real kind of star in the hospital. >> reporter: you see on christmas day lydia got a cough. it wouldn't stop. >> and she didn't even have a fever, and then one day i was snuggling with her, and she was breathing really fast. >> reporter: her mom emily took her to urgent care in bakersfield. soon after she was airlifted

here. >> it was bad, very bad. >> reporter: the next three months would be scary and unpredictable. lydia had toss hooked up to a machine that oxygenates and removes carbon dioxide from the blood, like an artificial lung. most patients are on it for two weeks. for lydia, it was two months. >> i was on the robot for eight weeks. >> literally hundreds of people have taken care of her. it's extremely unusual to get that sick from influenza, and also unusual to require that kind of support for that period of time. >> reporter: after all of that, she gets to go home. i asked lydia, what she wants to do most. >> i want to go to the park. >> reporter: she hasn't been outside much. doctors say she'll fully recover. >> i'm so happy. >> reporter: the family is moving forward, but says it's hard to move on from this. >> it's weird. i've been living this life for

60s across the bay area. and rain tomorrow. baseball is back. last night the giants hosted the a's in game 2 of the bay bridge series. the regular season starts sunday, but plenty of fans filled the seats last night. today we talked to fans from both sides of the bay. >> reporter: the battle of the bay is a competition in the stands. >> way to go, giants. >> go giants! >> let's go, oakland! >> reporter: fans battling, the top of team spirit. >> family rivalry. it's all good fun. for some the rivalry runs deep. >> during the season we communicate during -- >> reporter: most are just excited baseball is back. we're hoping they'll make a break from that. so we're excited. >> reporter: chefs are tossing

>> yeah, nothing -- we're not talking about rain today. it will be tomorrow -- >> no snow, okay. >> typical bay area weather. that's what we're looking at today. mostly 60s as the storm system starts to make its way into the bay area. in fact not bringing any clouds to the region. clouds will start to filter in, and we'll see some rain, right around midnight, showers off the coast, those worn actually move through -- you can see we don't have any rain to talk about, but tomorrow this time, we're looking at lots of rain across the entire bay area, from the north bay down into the south bay. today is a dry day, comfortable out there, but chilly this morning. 51 in san francisco, you'll notice from every vantage point, we are looking at clear skies from the most part. as we head through the day, as you mentioned, clouds will be on the increase, so a cooler afternoon. 67 degrees for your afternoon highs in the south bay.

it will be cloudy by this afternoon, eastern in san francisco, and those clouds expected by this afternoon and even. there's a storm system, cold front trailing all the way across the pacific. the thing about this it's a very slow mover. all the way through monday and for tuesday as well. there's the cold front ahead of it. can you see some clouds starting to form, and showers will move into the region. this is about 7:00, 8:00 tomorrow, the first band of rain through tomorrow, and we'll see it move through at least the morning hours, a bit of a dry period, a bit of sunshine mixed in, but then tomorrow into monday morning, another round of heavy rain pushes in, i think this will be the round of rain that could produce some thunderstorms, as we head towards monday night into tuesday morning. some of that activity can be pretty heavy. sunday again that would be the

first round of rain we are expecting. look how these amounts creep up. more than an inch in the north bay, close to an inch in san francisco, even down through the peninsula, south bay over 0.7 of an inch, close to an inch in the trivalley. tomorrow light shower activity, nothing hef with, but that heavy rain will move through to start the week. this is even going to produce some sierra snow. tomorrow morning about 7:00 we'll start to see the first snow flurries across the sierra. as we head through the day tomorrow and monday, tuesday, we're expecting about 6 inches to a foot. so it won't be a huge snow maker, but it will be a good rain maker for us across the bay area. really the general trend will be cool and cloudy with on and off showers. starting tomorrow, that's when we'll see the first rain move through the area. close to 60 tomorrow, so even

as this chances are when maya enters the science competition, she once, though she swears that's not the point. >> do do it to win. i have a lot of figure building the devices. that's kind of why i do them. >> reporter: maya has clearly been having a lot of fun. since the sixth grade she's are entering science fares. she's won at least one award every year at the synopsis silicon valley science fair, 19 in all, including this years's grand price. maya's winning entry, a low-cost device to helping copd. a promising tool to help in the fight against a disease affecting more than 60 million people around the world.

bay. temperatures will be in the 60s today, if i'm not mistaken. thank you for joining us. i i'm. right now we're starting off nice and bright. it's hard to tell there's a storm system on the way. clear skies for the most part. it's chilly with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, but later on this afternoon, as we get back into the 60s clouds will start to increase. that is expected to bring rain as soon as tonight. also tomorrow morning for your rush hour, if there is any rush hour on your sunday. maybe for easter, all the folks headed to church. but the storm system will make its way into the bay area by tomorrow morning. there will be slick roads. if you are headed to church, just keep in mind it will be slick out there with rain falling by this afternoon when

>> the public defenders calls the move to fire the officers a step in the right direction, and strongly encourages the police commission to follow suit. new information shows the next big earthquake in the bay area could have a bigger impact than originally thought. uc berkeley scientists have proving that the hayward fault is essentially a branch offal calveras fault. the science firsts say if an earthquake happens simultaneously on both faults we could experience a temblor over a magnitude of 7.0. they say the last big quake was 6.8 more than 100 years ago. >> to extent all the way south, so if we had even a solid structure we could have an even bigger earthquake. >> right now the usgs says there's a small, 7% chance that a large earthquake will hit on either of these fault lines in the next 30 years. still no answers after this

>> reporter: it's no secret there's been a growing concern about police staffing in san jose. the guardian angels have organized in the city before, but the chapters didn't last. some saying they were taking more of a law enforcement role than they should. >> we're not super heroes, you know? we're just out to keep an eye out and be a visual deterrence. >> the police officers association says observing crime is strongly encouraged, but the group has no comment on the guardian angels coming to the city. liang says he's not sure if more police or beret-wearing volunteers are the answer. >> maybe something in between would be the better solution. cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. the latest jobs report shows employers added about 126,000 jobs. that's the fewest since december 2013. economic experts blame some of the slowdown to bad weather

across much of the u.s. yesterday in salt lake city, president obama said he hopes to work with congress on more job create. >> rebuilding our infrastructure all across the country. those are jobs that can be exported, and not only does it put people to work right now, it makes us competitive over the long term. construction manufacturing and restaurants showed the most growth last month. economists are hopeful hiring will -- after they're seeing them swell with open positions. much more ahead on "today in the bay" we've already taken you into the stands at the bay bridge series. now to the field in the battle of the bay.

of the bay bridge series will be played this afternoon. first pitch at 1:05. anthony says it will be a cool day, temperatures in the 60s. now over to at&t park, as the sun rises on a beautiful saturday. speaking, the a's took game one on thursday, so the giants were looking to turn the tables last night. they didn't waste any time. it gives the orange and black a 3-0 lead. that's all matt kane would need. they shut out the a's. the rubber match again is at odot costadium. history lick made when a woman is put on the gridiron, a female refer yoon. ref roster doesn't come out

few high thing clouds. really that would be the general trend, as we head through the day, clouds on the increase, the rain arrives starting tomorrow morning. there's our storm system we're tracking across parts of the pacific northwest. this is what's expected to dive south, and that's where you have rain in the forecast, as soon as tomorrow morning. you'll notice, no rain to speak of, at least closer to home, but tomorrow this time we'll have lots of rain on the radar. so keep that in mind if you're traveling out for easter sun. maybe sure you're protected with that umbrella. you'll notice temperatures in the 30s and 40s for the most part. still mild in san francisco, but clouds will be on the increase, that would mean cooler conditions. 61 for san francisco. eventually this afternoon everyone will be cloudy with that rain expected to arrive tomorrow morning. you can see on our future cast, put this thing into motion, the

main band of rain is expected to push into the bay area. at the same time, the sierra snow will start to fall. tomorrow it will be rainy a cool, and we'll see unlawful showers. the showery activity will taper off, but the roads will still be slick in some areas. by monday evening, that nest cold front is expected to move through, and month night into tuesday, and then tuesday afternoon, the same potential does exist for thunderstorms at the actual core of the system passes just to our south. we'll finally start to dry out. rainfall amounts, this is probably going to be the most impressive storm system we have seen all year. talking about more than an inch of rain. down into san francisco, the east bay, the peninsula, that's where we could see close to an inch, expecting maybe 0.7 of an inch to over an inch. a good soaking is headed our

way. at least tomorrow won't be heavy rain, actually heavier monday and tuesday. the good news is we're talking about the sierra snow, about 6,000 feet. you go higher than that, about a foot of snow. that will come through tomorrow, monday and tuesday, so this would be several days of rain and snow across the state of california. great news, really. we soon seen a storm system like this all year, you have to go back to december to find something to rival what we are forecasting. while it will be cooler and cloudy ever, temperatures near very chilly tomorrow with only upper 50s to low 60s. we'll see spotty activity on tuesday, but then we'll see a better chance of thunderstorm activity, and then we're back to sunshine. the best news is that we're talking about not only just one day of rain, but three days of consecutive rainfall across the bay area. some excellent news here.

well, muni is getting a makeover, getting around san francisco now might be a little easier. one of the biggest changes, more bus drivers. this means faster service and short ser wait times. it will also installed more shelters and easier to reads signs and maps. they're renaming routes to clarify where the bus lines run. you'll start seeing the changes april 25th. still hey on "today in the bay" it's spring and people want to get in shape. we'll tell you about free workouts being offered here in the bay area. good morning. there's lots to do in the bay today. spring is the time for new beginnings. happy new year or literally interthe new year, but i can't pronounce what it says. it's the fifth annual cambodia celebration in oakland, and from 10:00 to 5:00, you can share in the music, dance, food and
