leaders of all faiths even nones are star struck. he's graced the cover of magazines, been named "time" person of the year and one of esquires best dressed. a new nbc news wall street journal poll shows 55% of americans have a positive view of pope francis. compared to three presidents only bill clinton tops him by one point. his negatives are 20 points higher. >> americans love pope francis, certainly because of his personal style. he seems real to them. >> reporter: he poses for selfies, takes the bus, ditching the limo and carries his own bags. a pope who embraces all, even accepts pizza deliveries while delivering a message of hope and love around the world. the pope also calling for the international community not to just idly stand by while all of these regions are in turmoil. back to you, craig.

>> thank you. turning to the obama administration's controversial nuclear deal with iran. on saturday iran's foreign minister said his country will be able to go full speed ahead with its nuclear program if the west backs out of the deal. chuck todd is moderator of "meet the press" and joins us this morning. >> good morning. >> the comments are going to make the hard liners in iran happy happy. congress probably not so much. what's the reaction and how will this play out on capitol hill once lawmakers return from recess? >> a comment like that is also -- allows for an i told you so for the benjamin netanyahus of the world and people who believe doing any deal with iran was a mistake. any deal that leaves them with a nuclear infrastructure is a mistake. him threatening that means they always wanted to get a bomb. it's part of the conversation i'll have with the israeli prime minister. i think obama will have a

majority in congress who oppose him. the thing is is it a super majority? can it undermine the ability for the u.s. to implement the deal? president obama's challenge, as it has been for the last year on iran, is to delay democratic opposition. go to democrats who want to be against the deal and say, give me time to at least start the implementation to see how it goes. i think that's been a successful political game plan so far, and it's probably the one the white house will pursue. >> is part of this happening on the part of the president, as a desire to leave a lasting legacy in terms of foreign policy if he enters the homestretch of his last term? >> it could be a legacy when you look at iran. i can tell you what the president views, candidate obama wanted conversations with rogue nations. he can say, i've opened a dialogue with iran with cubea,

netanyahu is his guest. let's get to sheinelle jones. there is a sting gone wrong. >> confusion when a deputy says he meant to use his taser but pulled his gun. a deputy was chasing his suspect during a drug and weapons sting operation on thursday. the tulsa county sheriff's office said he didn't intend to use deadly force, but in the heat of the moment, fired the gun instead of the taser. look at this video from an attempted carjacker in georgia. a surveillance camera captures a woman jumping and, watch this clinging to the hood of her car as the would-be carjacker drives off. you can see a bystander pull his own gun. he chased and shot the suspect in the shoulder. the suspect was arrested and treated at a hospital. closing arguments begin tomorrow in the boston marathon bombing trial.

>> reporter: even though lawyers for the defendant say he was involved surveillance video showed him arrive with a backpack at the site of the second marathon bombing and leave without it before an explosion. a trial of intense emotions. bill richard described the torment of watching his 8-year-old son martin die on the street. both parents later wiped away tears as a doctor testified that the bomb blasted six nails and 20 bbs into their son's body. the drive carjacked by the brothers recalled how he pleaded for help in a gas station. both were shot up by police where the defendant was found. he has shown no emotion in the courtroom and didn't take the stand. he may not testify in the trial's second phase. >> many people watching this case want to hear from him.

they want an explanation. they want to understand his motivation. that might not be forthcoming, and he is under no obligation to come forward. >> reporter: defense lawyers claimed it was his older brother who took the play jor steps in preparing for the bombings. an fbi analyst revealed when the fragments of the bombs were inspected, 500 pieces in all, the only fingerprints ever found were his brothers. it's certain the jury will find him guilty. after a brief break, the second trial begins on the punishment. nh nbc news boston. video releases of prince harry shows him in an aircraft. he went up in a spit fire. they shout for joy as it goes into a loop. this was part of a scholarship program that took place last year. the organizers held the video until now.

this drought. >> normally i do gardening in rows but it wastes a lot of water. we are doing the square foot gardening. i bought a book. we are only going to put water where the vegetables are. >> governor jerry brown announced the california snow pack was at its lowest level in recorded history. the governor has mandated a 25% reduction in water use for all cities in the state. the mandate also prohibits people were watering their yards for 48 hours after any measurable rainfall. >> if you are planning to take bart in and out of the east bay today, check your roots before you go. the tracks between oakland's coliseum and fruitvale stations will be closed starting today. this is a live look. crews are going to be repairing the tracks to make them safer and quieter. it is part of the building a better b.a.r.t. program. maintenance will be going on during some weekends between now and august. a san francisco organization is making easter weekend sweeter for those in need.

recently signed a reported $40 million contract faces first degree murder and weapons charges. he's accused of killing odin lloyd, a semi-pro football player dating the sister of hernandez hernandez's fiance. among the witnesses, robert kraft. >> what did he say when you asked him whether he was involved in this matter? >> he said he was not involved. >> reporter: hernandez pleaded not guilty and his lawyers expect his defense to take just one day. because the prosecution has not proved its case. prosecutors say the security camera video from hernandez's home show him carrying what they believe was the murder weapon, a concealed gun. hernandez gets in a car with two other men, both standing trial for murzder. they met lloyd and he was killed because hernandez was angry with lloyd after a dispute.

you're in canyons. but you guys all have day jobs too, as i understand it. correct? had. >> that's right. yeah i'm a teacher. >> i do software development. >> i'm a general contractor. >> how do you find time to do all this? >> we do. we have a lot of kids at home and wives that are waiting for us but we try to make any time we can to get out even for an hour or two each day. we try to get it. >> you mention your kids and two of your wives are in the studio. other one isn't here because another baby is on the way. but almost 11 kids between all of you. is it ever tough to say honey, i'm going to head out for four days on this super risky venture. see you when i get back. >> it is about to get a lot tougher for me. the newborn is going to be hard to make an excuse. but i think all of our wives kind of knew what they were marrying. so it kind of -- they've given us an allowance to go out and do this. but there is a delicate balance because you don't want to upset your wife. you have to play it by ear. >> the biggest way this series

seems different from others like it is that you guys shoot all of the video yourselves. goprocameras as i understand it. and little hand-held cameras as well? >> yeah. that's the best part about it. we all shoot at ourselves and it's -- it's fun because it just lets us be real and it is just us three. we can say or do whatever we want. there's no story set up. if we see a snake, we film it. we get tired, we sit down we eat lunch and no one's telling us to do this or that but we try to run 100 miles every single time. >> 100 miles. so as i understand it you have to get through a quarter of that every day to get your food. is that right? >> yeah. we start off the morning. we have basically a plan we're 18 to 25pending on whatever depending on the terrain. we have our box that we have to get through. we're starving. we run up to 10,000 calories a day. when we get there, we're

starving. whoever dropped off the box, whether by snow cat, helicopter or both we're able to get to this good food. sometimes there's pizza in there, hamburgers. we're not really trying to survive. it is not a survival show. it is like let's do as many miles as we can, see as much beautiful country as we can and then get to that box and eat as much food as we can. >> you said you hope this series inspires people to be adventurous in their 40s. >> that's exactly it. we just want people to get out and have a good time. there's so many bad things out in the world. let's celebrate something that's good and fun and guys hanging out and just get people out on the adventure. >> a lot of people don't flow -- like as they get older, they think i'm done that's all in the past. the 38-year-old person doesn't do this stuff. you kind of want to say, hey, you know what? you can still get out. >> thanks matt danny, and blake. tiger woods returns to the masters this week. but today, all eyes at augusta national are on a brother and sister competing in the second annual drive, chip and putt championship. >> the golf channel caught up with these golfing prodigies. >> reporter: playing golf throughout the winter in erie pennsylvania can be difficult. >> they're cold and snowy so we normally spend most of our time inside. >> reporter: for siblings isaiah and lydia swann, most of their practicing happens in the warm and dry indoors. >> it's a driving into the net place and a little chipping and putting green.
