just moments. right now back to you. rain here means snow in the sierra, a welcome site not only for skiers and snow border, you about everyone living through the worst drought in the bay history. >> and nanette miranda joining us. >> reporter: for now a break from the same old same old as we expect rain later on today. we can expect a moderately strong storm. yesterday, the weather teased us a bit as rained lightly just enough to force drivers to turn on their wind shields. it made for a wet easter sunday, but that wasn't ligsly kely to tears egg hunts or people to attend church services.

san jose firefighters were called to a blaze on mclaughlin avenue late last night just off tulley road. an abandoned structure was on fire and crews could have used more rain to help dampen the fire. more than five hours later, you crews were still on the scene. fire crews say to help them this fire season, they need residents to make sure they have defensible space around the home. >> make sure they get at least 100 feet around the structures. on slopes, 300 feet. >> reporter: latest storm is great news for the mountains. 1 to 2 feet is expected later. it helps supply our drinking water later in the year. and after measurable rain, californians are not supposed to water their lawns for 48 hours. live in san jose, nanette

>> that one is way back, way back, way back. number 600 for willie mays. >> going way back there in the years column with a flare for the dramatic, simmons booming voice forever etched his name in the heart of millions. his voice became a sound track for the 49ers and as and his tell it good-bye call is now a signature line for the giants franchise. giant president said many fans, earlier memories were listening on my transitser radio. it ignited our passion for billion. he will be deeply missed. here is video from july of 2013 where simmons celebrated his 90th birthday by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. he became a giant as announcer during the team's very first season in fran all tsan francis way back in 1958. he ultimately retired in 2002.

cautiously especially taking the little ones back to school after a long spring break. otherwise we have a lot of kids also kicking off spring break for today. 41 degrees in the tri-valley, 42 good morning to you san jose, and 37 degrees, what a chilly start up in the north bay. temperatures as of lunch time will be in the upper 50s and we will round out the day in the low to mid 60s. i'll give you the time line for the showers and tell you how much we're expecting in your specific microclimate in the next report. but first, want to check your drive. >> good morning. we actually have a stall in an unfortunate spot. on the bay bridge toll plaza just past the metering lights. completes are on and things are slow, but the thing about it, there was a stall, a truck in fact a big rig that stalled out and as it's making its way over the bridge, that's keeping things slow because they're trying to get that big truck off of the bridge. so you can see not only is it

thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and even some snowfall expected right here in the bay area. all the details in just moments. here is a look at the day's top stories. as early as today, jurors could deliver a verdict in the boston bombing trial. if convicted, tsarnaev might face the death penalty. and investigators are trying to determine whether a woman they say tried to set another person on fire is tied to other recent crimes. an off gduty firefighter tacklet woman as she tried to throw lighter fluid another victim. sf sf and baseball is back, as at the coliseum and giants this arizona. >> it won't be a cracker jack day for the stock market. >> big concern over the sudden turn for the economy.

mike always points out they close the road when it snows. so keep in mind you'll still be able to probably see that as we wake up on wednesday morning and cloud s clear out, i'm expectin a dusting of snow. the first time this year that we've had that opportunity. 42 degrees, chilly start to the day. that's the peninsula, same temperature to start the day in the south bay. we're at 41 in the tri-valley, 48 even falling into the 40s in san francisco. pull out that jacket today. if you live in the north bay, keep the the umbrella by your side, as well. let me show you your day part forecast for the back to work monday. 56 in the north bay by lunchtime with showers rolling through. as we head throughout the day, most of us in the pif50s at noo and then 4:00, low to mid-60s. that is jacket weather. here is the timing of the next round of rainfall. i stop the clock for you at 1:00

p.m., light shower activity up in the north bay. stop it again for you heavier stuff starts to move through. monday at 10:00 p.m., you might want to take a look at this, just to give you an idea of when the heaviest rainfall is coming your way. that's tonight at 10:00, areas to the north of the goeddlden g bridge. tuesday at 3:00 a.m., over the santa cruz mountains, dangerous driving conditions at that point. if you're an early riser, just travel very cautiously. i stop it for you again at 5:00 a.m., still tracking some pretty heavy downpour in the south bay and we continue to advance by 8:00. the heavy stuff moves out, but we'll still see light on and off activity as we head throughout the day. and then i stop the clock for you wednesday, about 12:00 a.m. into 3:00 a.m., things start to clear out. rain estimate for where you live

looking good. over an inch expected in the north bay. over an inch for palo alto and same for us here in the south bay. meanwhile walnut creek, 0.8. and not our only chance for rain this week. we'll get a new thunderstorms tonight into tomorrow. midsection of the week, temperatures stay steady starting to climb a little bit with another chance for rain as we meet back here on friday. so overall, april thundershowers looking pretty good at least for the first couple week. and you know what they bring, april showers bring what? >> may flowers. >> thank you very much. thank you very much. >> i love that. a little elementary school rhyme. all right. wanted to show you the metering lights at the bay brink because we actually have a stall. an earlier stall, big rig actually stalled out making its way over to the san francisco side. but it stalled and now we're not only looking at the typical slowing, but an added slowdown just because crews are trying to get the big rig off of the bridge and clear the lanes.

let's show you the maps. you can see a better story. all the way past treasure island into san francisco, continues to remain slow. the other trouble spot 680 south at mission boulevard heading to 880, there was a three car accident here. and coming also 680 through pleasantton, stop and go in this location. south bay, better news. lots of green. again typical slow spots we find 101 northbound as you get through santa clara, this always bogs down. and we're starting to find cars starting to pile in here as we take you outside, you can see for yourself, but no major problems. even for this time of morning. not too bad coming through 101. so we'll continue to track that stall. back to you. time 6:21. still ahead on today in the bae, reunited with man's best friend

heard a loud crashing noise. as materials fell from the ceiling, people began running away. 14 people were hit with debris, one person is in serious condition this morning. and one person dead, four others hurt after a car slammed in to a tour bus in southern california. this crash happened around 7:00 last night in san bernardino county. witnesses say the car veered into the bus. the driver of the car died. four bus passengers were treated for minor injuries. the cause of the accident is under investigation p. ais being accused in a late night robbery. a man says he was robbed at gunpoint by dmx and his entourage. he had struck up an conversation with him and an associate pulled out a hand gun and demanded money. police have not made any arrests in that case.

forced to turn on their wind shield wipers making for a somewhat wet easter sunday. san jose fire crews, though, could have used more rain last night to help dampen a building fire. the abandoned structure burned all night. crews say this might be a preview of things to come. >> what we'll expect this year is we'll have a pretty heavy fire season with a lot of the one hour fuel is our tall grasses that are kimd of the tinder that helps start the bigger fires. >> reporter: the coming storm tonight is supposed to bring 1 to 2 feet of snow to the sierra. the show pack helps provide our drinking water as the snow melts later in the year. this is also a good time to remind everyone that 48 hours after measurable rain, you are not supposed to water your lawns until 48 hours has passed.

point tomorrow morning, we could be talking about snow right here in the day area. i'll talk about that in a moment. for today, showers starting this the north bay mostly. afternoon noon, noon on 4:00, first showers. cool enough for a jacket. look at this, sierra nevada snow. something we need so desperately. all the way down to lake level picking p up 6 inches. more tonight and into tomorrow morning. when it comes to the potential for flurries, elevation 3486 feet, i think you will see some flurries. look at what we could get on top of mount hamilton, 3 to 6 inches of snowfall with a cold system. snow levels will fall to 4,000 feet. and like i said before, a lot of the stuff will come through during the coldest point of the

day making that chance even greater. let's me take you through your future cast and show you what we are expecting. getting into tonight, 11:00, heavy moisture. that will press south. when we meet back here tomorrow morning, likely tracking the heaviest rainfalls in the south bay. i take you into tuesday and wednesday, and you can see overnight, things will start to be pretty heavy. then they start to let up between tuesday morning and early wednesday. but still getting on and off light activity over the course of your tuesday afternoon into your wednesday. but i just want to make sure this is nice and clear for you. heaviest rainfall expected overnight into tomorrow morning. and look at what some of the models are projecting. over an eventual possible up in santa rose, same for palo alto. and right here in the south bay, looking towards over an inch of rain. so i'm certainly happy about

penalty. >> reporter: that's right. and as you mentioned, we had expected closing arguments would begin around 9:00 local time here in boston. but they have been delayed. tsarnaev is in court now, but his attorneys are not. it looks like there is some sort of conference going on with the judge. tsarnaev faces 30 counts in connection with the boston marathon bombing. the shooting of a m.i.t. police officer. 17 of the 30 charges could bring the death penalty. after testimony from 95 witnesses in the dzhokhar tsarnaev trial, the only word that matters will soon belong to the jury. guilty or not guilty. attorneys for the government and tsarnaev make their final pleas this morning in closing arts and 12 out of the 18 jurors will deliberate. likely tsarnaev will be convicted. during opening statements, he admitted through his lawyers that did he take part ht
