happened. nbc's mark potter is in south carolina this morning. mark good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. walter scott's funeral will be held in the church behind me in summerville, south carolina. it has been a week since the shooting where many questions remain unanswered. >> now we need to come together as a community remembering walter scott. >> reporter: at the city hall a somber vigil friday night for 50-year-old walter scott. with members of the group black lives matter and others demanding an end to senseless killing. >> i stand here because we're tight. enough is enough. >> reporter: on the day of scott's funeral, there are questions about why the shooting occurred and why as seen on the dash cam video, he bolted from a car and ran away after a traffic stop by officer michael slager. documents showed scott owed $18,000 in child support going back years. his father suggested that is the

reason he ran from the officer. >> dehe did not want to go to jail. he has been there before. child support. >> reporter: the biggest question is what happened when officer slager caught up with scott and a scuffle occurred. a police incident report shows slager fired his taser and called dispatch requesting back up. >> shots fired. subject down. he grabbed my taser. >> reporter: the cell phone video shows scott running away and the officer shooting him in the back. on tuesday, slager was arrested and charged with murder. meantime 23-year-old feidin santana who shot the cell phone video has an emotional meeting with the scott family. >> thank you, god. >> reporter: the family

you were then working for senator barack obama. what does she need to do differently? >> she talked about it. going into the living rooms and vfws and smaller halls. i think voters will want to see candidates earn this nomination the old fashion way. that is going out there and talking and meeting voters. not the big rallies. that is what she is set to do. >> you talk about the democratic primary. she is the overwhelming favorite. i guess the question is is there any democrat that has the ability to compete with her and beat her and if she is the harlem globetrotters for the washington generals in the next six months? what happens if she cannot get the gaps out and hone her message? >> i don't think there is anyone that can run for president that can beat her.

she is the dominant democrat in the field. what is important about this weekend and it will set the tone for the campaign is the why she is running. that is what everyone willis even to. we now know the if and how and when. we want to hear the why. what animates her to run for office again. what causes does she want to bring forward. i think that is what people across the political spectrum will be listening for this weekend. >> republicans will try to make this as difficult as they can for hillary clinton. you heard from ted cruz attacking her for the personal e-mail as secretary of state. not too long ago on the show you described that as highly unusual. how big of a problem is that going forward for hillary clinton? >> i still think there are questions she needs to answer. i do think, peter, the biggest issues that surround the election are still issues of economics and frankly personal

and homeland security. i think you have middle class and how they will do in the next eight years is tremendously important and how we keep this our country safe in a very dangerous world. i think that's what she's going to find is asked of her and most of the candidates when they sit in living rooms and vfw halls. >> and finally bill clinton. he said he will be a back stage advisor. you know the last campaign he was on stage. he got himself in trouble. if you are in charge of the clinton campaign how do you manage the former president? >> you have to understand former president clinton is among the best political strategist in the party and best communicators in all of politics. what they need to do is figure out what that key role is for him and use him in that way. clearly, he got frustrated last time because he did not believe

in the strategy. including him early in how they do these things and putting him in a position to push hillary clinton forward, he can be i think an effective surrogate like no one else. >> thank you, robert. new video of a brawl outside of a walmart in arizona. sheinelle. >> the dash cam video is of a fight that left one dead and an injured officer. an officer appears to be on the ground struggling with the suspect over his weapon. that is when another officer fatally shot the suspect. police say the shooting was justified. >> he still had control of sergeant daniel's weapon. >> the officer was treated and released. a second suspect was also wounded in the brawl. six people were arrested.

the fbi is investigating a police beating caught on tape in a california desert this week. the exclusive video captured by an nbc helicopter shows the suspect fleeing police allegedly on a stolen horse. you can see police punch and kick him in the head and groin after he was tasered. the san bernardino county sheriff says the video disturbed and troubled him and appears to show excessive force. ten deputies are now suspended. a second man facing chill charges in connection with a bomb plot on a military base in kansas. 28-year-old alexander blair knew about the planned attack against ft. riley. four people were found dead in a new york city home in what appears to be another carbon monoxide poisoning. the elderly victims were discovered friday.

last night on knob hill in san francisco. police recognized a stolen black to ita corolla they say was connected to several armed robberies including three just last night. police tried to pull over the car with three men inside at california and mason street. the driver sped away from police and a few blocks away hit and killed a woman at california and kearney. the driver kept going and just a few minutes later at post and powell the driver hit a second pedestrian. that person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officers say four units continued to chase the driver but lost the car near a bay bridge on-ramp. officers found the car abandoned on treasure island. they also discovered two guns nearby that they think were thrown from the car. happening now, getting around san francisco this weekend will be a little more difficult than usual because of a major road closure.

van ness is closed for construction. workers are constructing a new pedestrian tunnel. they'll work around the clock until midnight tonight. it will connect a construction site to an office building across the street. shutdowns will be april 24th through the 26th and during labor day in september. coming up a long strange trip will roll through the bay area. a big announce maenltment from the grateful dead. now back to the "today" show.

these scammers are targeting the prom now too. fooling teenage girls with fake designer dresses. charging hundreds of thousands of dollars that can fall apart in your hands. ex- experts say it is happening today. you have to see what we found before you go dress shopping. it's prom season. and for the girls, it is all about the dress. >> prom is the oscars to a high school kid. >> reporter: high end labels sell for hundreds of dollars. a ton of money for high school kids and parents. >> i like it. >> reporter: which is why they are always looking for the best deal. >> is this your dress? >> that's my dress. >> reporter: now brazen scammers are cashing in on their excitement. check out the web sites. a teen girl's dream. designer gowns at discounts. they look real but designers

toyota corolla they say was connected to nine armed robberies over the last few days in the city including three just last night. police tried to pull over the car with three men inside at california and mason street. the driver sped away from police and a few blocks away hit and killed a woman at california and kearney. the driver just kept going and a few minutes later at the corner of post and powell at union square the driver hit another pedestrian. that person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officers lost a car near a bay bridge on-ramp and then found the car abandoned on treasure island. investigators say they also discovered two guns nearby they think were thrown from the car. happening now, getting around san francisco this weekend will be a little more difficult than usual because of a major road closure. van ness is closed for construction on a new campus of california pacific medical

center. workers are constructing a new pedestrian tunnel. they will be working around the clock until midnight tomorrow. shutdowns are also scheduled for the weekend of april 24th through 26th and during labor day weekend in september. coming up this morning on "today in the bay" the long strange trip will roll through the bay area. a big announcement from the grateful dead. that plus all your top stories and weather coming up at 7:00. right now we'll send you back to the "today" show.

a man taken down by police and beaten after a wild chase in the desert of california. hallie jackson has more. >> reporter: this scene caught on camera. ten deputies on leave with the fbi investigating. a chase ended as the suspect fell off his stolen horse. two deputies tase him. then punch and kick him. seconds later, joined by other san bernardino county officers. our los angeles station knbc recording from above. his mother says she will not watch the video. >> he did not deserve to be treated like that. he had every right to run. >> reporter: police believe he originally fled worried about a probation violation when officers happened to show up at the house he was at thursday. while the sheriff says his officers were familiar with the 30-year-old's criminal history and resisting arrest and robbery, he calls the video disturbing. >> at the end of the day, it
