a huge change for south bay commuters this morning. what you need to know before you hit the road. and the giant minor league affiliate gets ready to pay tribute to injured giants fan bryan stow. what they will do later this week. ready to play ball? your world champion giants are finally back home ready to raise that championship flag. we have a live look outside this morning at willie mays plaza where the home opener will play this afternoon. it's april 13th, this is "today in the bay." >> good morning. it's 4:30.

i'm kyra clapper. sam and laura are at at&t park. we'll get to them in the next half hour. first, quick look at the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> thank you. chilly start with ours of fog. it's going to be a cool day out there, especially compared to 24 hours ago. we've got a lot of fog. it's going to take quite some time to burn off. as a result, this will be the coolest day of the week. take it to your day park forecast, at noon today, temperatures in the low 60s just about everywhere with the upper 50s expected on the east shore and in san francisco. we'll round out the day in the upper 60s. same for tuesday. that's a good ten degrees cooler than yesterday. and then that climb is on wednesday through friday. over to you. >> christina, thanks. let's get a check of your first check of the morning commute with mike. >> looking over at an easy drive around most of the bay because it's early but at 101 at 680 just north here where it shows

on our live camera. we did have an earlier fire off the side of the road. sounds like it was a brush fire. taking care of. the crews have just cleared. the obviously the traffic was so light they were able to get by without any problem through the area. then the early start, small slowdown off of 205 where it merges with 580. we have all the activity over there near at&t park. we will bring you stuff from inside the park as around. the game time traffic blending in with the post-work traffic. ky kyra, you've got something going on in the zhsouth bay. >> it's a switchup in the morning commute in the south bay. the last of the new flyover ramps opens today at the 280/80 interchange. it connects 280 directly withal 80. drivers won't have to compete with stevens creek boulevard anymore. h is the last major milestone

for the project that's been going on since fall of 2012. the new ramp opens in less than 30 minutes. police are investigating a double shooting at a busy intersection in berkeley. berkeley police say two people were shot a little before 2:00 this morning at ashby and shad dock avenues just outside a gas station convenience store. you can see bullet holes in the windows of the store. so far no word on the extent of the people's injuries. five men accused in the shooting death of a young mother in oakland are expected to enter their please in court today. the men are charge with murder. police say they got into a fight in a west oakland neighborhood last month and someone started shooting. a stray bullet hit and killed shah mill pierce as she tried to rush her children to safety. today a judge will determine if there's enough evidence to try a high-end call girl charged in the death of a google exec. 27-year-old alex tishlemans is accused of inexpecting forest hayes with a lethal dose of

heroin. hayes was found in his yacht in the santa cruz harbor. hayes lay dying. her attorney calls it an accident. she faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. police are looking for a driver who ran down a bicyclist in mall pit tas over the weekend. police say the crash happened yesterday outside golfland near 680. the driver apparently hit the cyclist and crashed into the building. and then got out of the car and took off. the cyclist was taken to the hospital but we don't know how badly they were hurt. divers will be out in the san joaquin river today searching for a motorcyclist believed to have fallen off the antioch bridge. the fire department tells us the motorcyclist collide with a car before falling into the water yesterday. rescuers searched the water for three hours last night. the driver of the car stayed at the scene and was not hurt. today palo alto city council

will hear new arguments from people living in a mobile home park that's set to close. the city and santa clara county set aside millions of dollars to buy the mobile home park property. the mobile home park serves mostly low-end families. the residents appealed and now the city and county are trying to pull together enough money to buy the property to preserve affordable housing. local lawmakers have asked state and federal agencies for funding. air quality leaders in the north bay will get feedback tonight on a plan to ban wood burning fireplaces. the bay area air quality management district wants to ban wood burning fireplaces in all new homes. homeowners will get to sell or rent would be required to replace wood burning fireplaces with ones that burn gas. tonight's meeting is in san rafael city hall at 6:00 p.m. the first -- it will be

bryan stow. stow, of course, is the san francisco giant's fan attacked by two men outside dodgers stadium in 2011. he suffered head trauma and permanent disabilities. his two attackers eventually pleaded guilty. on thursday stow plans to get up from his wheelchair and use a walker to deliver the first pitch from the mound. all right. this is a live look at at&t park this morning. things are getting started there early. it's the day giants fans have been waiting for since last season world seasons win, the home opener. they're back and take on the kol come rockies. today is the start of a ten-game home stand that includes match-ups against the diamondbacks and dodgers. yesterday the dugout store was full of fans picking up new gear. >> we have to get to wednesday's fa game. we go to all the home starts. we've been doing it since 2010.

we're big tim lincecum fans. we have a tim lincecum fan here, new addition. we're excited about the season. >> starting them young. the game starts at 1:35 but you will want to get there early for all the pre-game pomp and circumstance including the raising of the 2014 world series pennant. that's all expected to start around 12:45. it will also have a contribute to simmons. simmons started calling giants fans in the 1950s. together with fellow hall of fame broadcaster russ hodges. he of course was the voice behind the area of mace, mccovey, and marishaw. he announced games for the oakland as and san francisco 49ers during his career. simmons died last week at the age of 91. just a week into the season and the giants are dealing with a string of injuries but looks like most of the players are on the road to recovery. casey mcgee is expected to be back soon after bruising a bone in the left knee over the

weekend. he's currently rehabbing in the minors recovering from some back issue. meanwhile, pitcher matt kaine is on the disabled list with an arm strain. no word on return as far as we know he has yet to pick up a ball. and the giants are hoping to get hunter pence back by may but that will depend on how his forearm is healing. you may remember he broke it during spring training. and you can't see them yet but our laura and sam are at the park getting ready for a special edition of "today in the bay." they will be live inside at&t park starting at 35:00 this morning give youing you a look at what to expect for the 2015 giants. what's the weather going to look like? for that we check in with meteorologist christina loren. >> we do have some fog out there. and today will be on the cool side. definitely a big change from yesterday. we had a beautiful day. some cities hit the 80s yesterday. today coolest of the week. getting into tomorrow. temperatures are going to be

section. smooth drive around the rest of the way bbay. that should be a nice change this morning but we'll track it because folks still have to adjust. we'll move to the north because we typically see slowing on highway 4. not yet happening in antioch. easy drive as well. easing into your monday morning. bay bridge toll plaza easing acrossover the bay. no problems out of oakland in towards san francisco. with an early afternoon game for the giants there will be a midday traffic building around noontime. and traffic after the became. kyra, you're over in the city as well because we had -- van nuys avenue was a mess over the weekend. >> but traffic is moving once again on van ness avenue in san francisco. the stretch between post and gary was shut down for the weekend. it's because crews are working on the new california pacific medical center, cpmc. it includes a pedestrian cross that goes under the road. shut downs were scheduled for the weekend of april 24-26 and during labor day weekend in

september. all right. it's 4:40 right now. we're finally getting an idea of just how well the apple watch did when it went on sail friday morning. plus, less than 24 hours after hillary clinton announced she was run for president, another candidate is jumping into the race. and despite california's worst drought in recorded history, one major company is taking our water and selling it without a permit. we'll explain, next.

the race to become the next president is getting crowded and fast. marco rubio is set to announce his candidacy this afternoon at miami's historic freedom tower. rubio will be the third republican to announce. he joins rand paul and ted cruz. wisconsin governor scott walker and florida governor jeb bush also are expected to run. and after years of speculation hillary clinton made it official yesterday. she's throwing her hat in the presidential ring. >> i'm running for president. >> clinton made that big announcement through a video released on her website. she said in part that everyday americans need a champion and i want to be that champion.

the former secretary of state tweeted that iowa will be her first stop as a candidate. voters we talked to said clinton is smart to use the internet and social media to launch her campaign. >> very smart move, right? that's where -- that's where all the intelligence is, in my opinion, for people, right? the younger generation. >> it's all about soecial media. no better way to get your word out. >> political experts say clinton will try to rebrand herself to win over her critics. we'll have continuing coverage of decision 2016 as the presidential campaign unfolds. if you're looking for coverage in between newscasts be sure to check out nbcbayarea.com. new york's attorney general is looking into a number of major retailers including target and san francisco's gap. landon dawdy is live at the headquarters with that and a look at how the markets are doing this morning. landon? >> hey, kyra, good morning to you.

new york's attorney general is skru scrutinizing several retailers including target and gap over their work schedules. chains may be using on-call scheduling requiring employees to check in by phone, e-mail, or text right before their shift. if it's busy, they must come in but if it's not they have to stay home. worker advocates have criticized the practice for making people's lives and pay unpredictable. and checking the markets. stocks could be under a little pressure today after the markets come off positive week. now closing above 18,000 for the first time this month on friday. look for later this week on retail sales, inflation, and housing. and earning seasons get under way from week from jpmorgan. nasdaq is up 21, to 4995. the early word is in and people are interested in the apple watch. digital news site says there were aens mated 1 million preorders for the device on friday. about two thirds worth of the less expensive aluminum model.

the apple watch goes on april 24th. time for a look at our weather forecast. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. >> good monday morning to you. i'm meteorologist christina loren. it is a chilly start to the day. we also have patchy fog out there this morning. what a difference a day makes. over the past 24 hours big-time changes. we started out mostly clear yesterday. we have that thick fog and drizzle back at the coast for this morning. let's talk about what's really going on today. what we're expected about here at nbc bay area. the giants home opener, comfortable conditions. it will be on the cool side. you want to watch for this wind out of the west at 15 miles per hour. flags flowing out towards center field. could actually pick up and carry that ball. the wind will be on the strong side. fifth inning, 60 degrees. by the time people start to make their way home, chilly condition, into the upper 50s. today will be the coolest of the week.

p.m. clouds will steadily increase. that's courtesy of an area of low pressure that could bring us some showers as we head throughout tonight in the north bay. what we're really expecting though are the temperatures to tumble today. a little coastal fog and drizzle in the forecast for this morning. also for tonight. then by tomorrow, more of the same. wednesday into thursday though the pattern changes entirely. feeling like summertime. offshore flow is back. that means the heat is on. unfortunately this also means we are going to see the fire winds moving from land to sea. they dry outen the way. we do have a dry pattern ahead. look at where your temperatures are headed. 79 by wednesday, into the mid 80s for thursday and friday. it's going to be very warm around here. a little bit of a roller coaster ride when it comes to your changing temperatures. over to you. >> christina, thanks. the suspect in an unusual police chase is scheduled to appear in court today. los angeles nbc affiliate news chopper flew overhead last week as deputies tased suspected

horse thief francis. they are punching and kicking him. now ten deputies are on paid leave. they were airing audio recorders but the audio has not been released due to the ongoing investigation. necessarily is under investigation in california for bottling water without a permit. the u.s. forest service says the company had a permit for drawing water out of a national forest in southern california to sell as bottled water but that permit expired in 1988. the company says it will work to renew that permit but critics say california can't afford to grant water permits in the middle of a drought. for now it looks like all is go for today's spacex launch to resupply the international space station. unmanned spacex dragon capsule is set to blast off at 1:30 pacific time from cape canaveral. this also will be the third time spacex attempts to land the

200 locations. all right. let's get a look at your morning drive with mike inouye. >> looking at the high rise or the decon, depending on which direction you're going. incline would be eastbound. this is the high rise for the san mateo bridge eastbound. we don't see any slowing on our map for 92 across the bay. that's where the arrow is, westbound is your commute direction. below there, the dumbarton bridge looks clear. south bay, getting ready for the changes, new transition to open up 280 at 17. we'll talk about that in a few minutes with reporter live on the scene. right now the morning is moving nicely for the upper east shore as well as the top of your screen for the north bay. novato down to the golden gate bridge, no problems. look at the golden gate. we talked about the zipper truck moving at center divide. just about to the other side of the bridge getting ready. keep in mind there will be more traffic midday likely at the golden gate bridge as well as the bay bridge in towards the city because of the giants playing at 1:35 today. this is the home opener.
