it's official. steep water cuts are here. some customers have to cut their water usage by 30% by june. stop right there! >> a man wanted for two murders charges a police officer. the officer refraining from opening fire. today he's being commended for keeping a level head. hello, i'm peggy bunker. we have nbc bay area's christie smith. first, let's go to kate scott. >> reporter: that's right. it's round one of a journey that the golden state warriors hope ends with a win. it started with a bang today as anthony davis shows how it is done. what can't this kid do?

the players leave. what a day. it was a sellout crowd. fans leaving with huge smiles telling us about their favorite plays and, of course watching the three-pointers rain down. now, of course those fans are coming down the stairs. they had on their bright yellow t-shirts with the slogan strength in numbers in the series against the new orleans pelicans. the warriors had a franchise record of 67 wins during the regular season. that brought them here. oracle arena filled with fans today that say it was loud and electric inside. outside, of course they were talking about seth curry and watching him do what he does so well. >> it was a great game. >> he's still cooking right now. he's hot. you can tell he felt it. they are ready for the playoffs, definitely. >> i remember the '75 warriors when they won and we're looking forward to them winning 40 years later. >> reporter: now, at the end,

fans say it got a little too close for comfort but the warriors came out on top and that's what matters. talked to a couple of fans who told me they paid $750 for two tickets to get into this game but they say it was worth it. of course game two monday night at 7:30 back here at oracle arena, christie smith, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, christie. make sure to watch your tap water. everyone is being told to conserve water but how much depends on where you live. san francisco is being asked to cut back by 8%. other cities a whopping 30%. marianne favro is live. that's where they are seeing the most drastic cuts is in morgan hill. >> reporter: that's right. one of the reasons state leaders are asking morgan hills to cut back a whopping 32%. today the california water

resources control board released a modified list of conservation measures and people have to comply starting in june. some morgan hill residents are surprised because the city already cut their use 21% compared to 2013 and many residents say they have been doing their part by collecting rain water and letting their lawns turn brown. >> we were still average than the average that they were comparing us to which sort of blew me away. >> so how much do other cities have to save? san jose is being asked to cut back 20%. pleasanton 24%. the state's highest target so far is 36%. reporting live marianne favro nbc bay area news. >> getting serious about the

drought. marianne, thank you so much. speaking of water, look at the waves in pleasure point in santa cruz. this made a lot of surfers happy. rob may yesterday da si mayeda is joining us. >> half moon bay, low clouds and fog kind of socking in the coastline. that's the view there, kind of gloomy. the temperatures almost looks like summer with 50s and 60s. still 79 degrees and sunshine there in santa cruz with low clouds on the approach. temperatures around the south bay, again, looking a lot more like summer near 82 degrees area south of san jose. as we go through the rest of the evening, temperatures cool quickly in san francisco and oakland with the sea breeze and low clouds moving inland. as we head towards tomorrow

morning, patchy low clouds to start the day. another warm day around the bay area but we're starting to see changes. first, in the morning, more interesting what is happening up to the north here if you look up towards the east you get big thunderstorms building towards the sierra. more of this activity will come closer to the bay area early next week. we'll talk about those changes in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> all right, rob. sounds good. thank you. pg&e continues to investigate a fiery gas explosion in fresno as new images emerge from yesterday's blast. it was alarming. take a look at this crater left behind. this is it at a fresno county sheriff's department shooting range. a backhoe was digging and hit the gas line. the tractor was simply driving over the pipeline when the blast happened. in that case it's unclear why it was so close to the surface. no one was killed but 11 people were injured. highway 99 was shut down in both directions. crews remain on the scene and worked to fix the pipeline and

determined to fix the exact cause of the blast. here in the bay area, it's a chilling reminder of the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. and speeding appears to be the cause of an accident that blocked the road for nine hours. a driver missed the turn and slid off in petaluma. crews had to upright the big rig. the load shifted and caused him to lose control of his truck. he was not injured and all lanes reopened shortly after midnight. in the east bay, the search is on for a driver behind a deadly hit-and-run crash at 2:00 this morning. a dodge charger was speeding down 60th street when it slammed into a car on mlk way killing the driver. the driver of the dodge took off from the scene. they are asking for assistance in finding him or her. and about 100 people gathered before sunrise today in san francisco to commensurate

the 1908 earthquake. >> at this ungodly hour to remember -- >> the group held a moment of silence and placed a wreath on market street. it's become known as the place where survivors met after the earthquake 109 years ago today. the quake killed about 3,000 people. it's considered to be california's worst natural disaster. and coming up next the officer being commended for how he handled a life and death situation. he refused to open fire despite a murder suspect was rushing at him with his hands in his pockets. and you just can't believe this. hard to understand what some people think. a puppy strapped to the roof of a car brought lots of calls flooding into 911. we're going to tell you how the puppies are fairing tonight.

dramatic body camera video showing a nonviolent end in a confrontation with a double murder suspect. the officer is being praised for his restraint and maturity in this situation. nbc's sarah dollop has the story. >> reporter: a tense standoff between officer and suspect in richmond ohio. >> i'm not going to shoot you, i'm not going to shoot you.

put them up! sir, do it now! >> reporter: the officer's body camera shows him backing up gun raised but not firing at michael wilcox, a suspect in a double murder. >> back up! [ bleep ]. back [ bleep ] up. >> reporter: wilcox surrendered feet from the officer. >> the officer made a split-second decision in life and death and i wanted to be absolutely sure before using that force. >> for him to use that judgment call that he did shows great restraint and maturity. >> reporter: the officer's actions are being hailed as a positive example of policing while other areas of the country have seen demonstrations following shootings of unarmed citizens by law enforcement. some of those encounters have been captured on police body cameras. others like in ferguson missouri have not. something many protesters and police would like to see changed.

the officer's body camera was given to him by a relative. he's the only one in the department who wears one. his boss is now seeking funding to outfit all new richmond police. well tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the oklahoma city bombing. they celebrated the lives of the victims today. they also raised money to help families that were affected by the bombing. nearly 170 people died when the federal building exploded. former u.s. soldier timothy mcveigh and terry nichols were punished for the mass murder. at tomorrow's event, silence will be held for each person who died and their names will be read aloud. puppies on an uncomfortable and dangerous road trip were rescued from the roof of a car. take a look at what drivers found yesterday on this road in

akron, ohio. four puppies inside of a cage strapped to the roof of a minivan. several drivers called 911 to report the abuse and police did finally pull that van over. this is what was inside. the family gave officers and the animals -- the family gave the animals over willingly. >> they were huddled together they were scared they had urinated all over the inside of the cage. when i tried to get them out, they were trying to crawl back in. >> the driver of the van told police that his family was moving and that the puppies had to ride outside of the car because he had, quote more important things to fit inside the car, his children. he also said he didn't know what he was doing was illegal. the puppies are now headed to an animal shelter. still to come tonight, if you've ever wanted to watch blue herons up close, this camera will help you do just that. we'll show it to you.

thousands of people came out today for uc berkeley's big tradition cal day. students and their families check out the campus and look at the dorms. today was also a big day for the university bell tower. it is celebrating its 100th birthday. getting up close and personal a webcam went live at the local blue heron colony.

they spend six months here and it allows nature lovers to see the birds in their natural habitat. biologists are hoping that the group will be seen hatching and hopefully catching the birds' first flight. one size fits all is a thing of the past especially when it comes to fighting disease. nowadays it's all about personalized medicine. so what is it and what can it do? >> reporter: while most medical treatments are made for the average patient, precision medicine is specific for you. a treatment designed for your body, your genes. >> this institution, the whole country has talked about position medicine. >> reporter: doctors do this by taking into account the different in a person's genes, lifestyles and environment and debate the patient records and compare them to find the best treatment. it may help explain why some people with the same condition react differently to the same

medication. >> the future is to develop drugs that are very specific not just to lung cancer but what kind what subtype of cancer. >> reporter: this week, governor brown launched the california initiative to advance precision medicine and this man will lead it. >> they can all benefit from this approach. >> one of the greatest opportunities for medical breakthroughs that we have ever seen. >> reporter: earlier this year, president obama announced a $215 million plan to gather genetic data from 1 million american volunteers. >> delivering the right treatments at the right time every time to the right person. >> reporter: that future is already here. like some skin cancer and leukemia patients. mapping your genome used to cost millions. now it's about $1,000.

but one of the key questions as state and federal governments move forward. we need better ways to address their diseases. so even if this makes a marginal little bit of an improvement, i think that's going to be a great benefit. >> reporter: in san francisco, ian cole, nbc bay area news. hopefully you're out there enjoying your weekend. rob mayeda is here with your microclimate forecast. >> it feels like summer for parts of the bay area. dropping in the 60s in san francisco but san jose is at 74 degrees. you've got sunshine and winds up to 10 miles per hour. clouds off to the west and fairly cool over in san francisco the giants flag is blowing around there. 63 degrees. fog sweeping across the bay. you have the ring ceremony coming up and you can see the temperatures for the game as the

low clouds roll in. the winds are certainly on shore from 10 to 20 miles per hour. that will bring in low clouds for tonight and very possibly tomorrow morning. some mist or drizzle in a few spots. notice offshore interesting today, circulation there with the low clouds backed up on the shore, some of that spills inland later on tonight but perhaps more interesting what is happening to the north and to the northeast, if you look out to the east, you see the gigantic clouds building thunderstorms in the sierra and some of this may try to drop a little bit further south into northern sonoma county during the day tomorrow. we'll start off the day with areas of low clouds and mist. some of that is picked up in the future cast through 6:00 a.m. as you head out through the afternoon, look for the clouds building in the heat of the day. right around lake tahoe and yosemite probably a few more around northern sonoma county tomorrow afternoon and the hilltop with a chance of isolated shower.

tomorrow 40s and 50s to start. as we approach noon a pretty nice day. livermore, 75 degrees by midday and then numbers in the upper 70s and low 80s inland but cooler closer to san francisco with the highs in the 60s. so 78 degrees in san jose for tomorrow. you'll see mid-60s closer to san francisco. mid- mid-70s around the north bay. pleasanton and livermore, things begin to change for the workweek. we're talking monday into tuesday. upper level low here will bring an increasing chance of showers for parts of the bay area. in terms of accumulating rainfall, not a lot showing up. more scattered showers and most will be near the hilltops but nevertheless that's the pattern shift beginning monday into tuesday. cooling and at least an opportunity for some showers and at this point maybe even a better chance of showers by friday. so the weekend forecast looks nice. warm inland and cool on the coast and hopefully more than a few showers there in the forecast. that would be a welcome sight

is any indication of how they will play post season the rest of the west is in trouble. fans were fired up at the oracle and their leader, steph curry, was on fire from the get-go. he puts the warriors up 15 after one. second quarter, andrew bogut and then rewards the big man with the oop. curry comes up with a steal and does something that, well only steph can do and the foul. oh yeah. curry had 19 in the first half alone. warriors were up 18 at the break. let's see those muscles, steph. thank you very much. third quarter, more curry. that pushes the lead to 19 and the next possession guess who, it was curry again. he finished the game with 34

points with five assists as the warriors take the opener, 106-99. >> when you get to the playoffs everything resets and you just have to not forget who you are and how you got there but just enjoy the moment. every game is important and we want to take advantage of every opportunity that we have and i think in the locker room nobody is kind of looking down the road or feeling extra pressure in this situation, which is healthy for us as we -- you know after fighting the series. >> though it doesn't look like they'll need it warriors' fan shawn doolittle offered up his services as only doo can do. and it's going to be a celebratory night at at&t park as the giants receive their rings for winning their third world series championship in the last five years. full highlights of that
